Summary

A Goblin lair known as Movalpolos has suddenly appeared in North Gustaberg.
Ayame wishes you to investigate this lair with the cooperation of a visiting scholar waiting in Port Bastok.

Walkthrough

Ayame is looking for adventurers to investigate the Moblins while military actions are being planned. After accepting the quest, go to the Steaming Sheep in Port Bastok for further instructions. Speak with Ravorara outside the tavern for orders to 'investimigate' Movalpolos and 'aquiremirize' unusual moblin items.

Proceed to Oldton Movalpolos (entrance in North Gustaburg, eastern area, just north of the hill and directly south of the Palborough Mines entrance). Work your way to (K-10) and speak with Brakobrik, who complains that fire is very dangerous in Movalpolos. Thus, he requests that you kill bombs to acquire pinches of Hoary Bomb Ash.

The Ancient Bombs in Oldton Movalpolos drop this. These aggro at least up to lvl 45 and use all the usual bomb attacks, including Self-Destruct. You are assured at least 1 drop every kill. Go back to Brakobrik and trade the ash, either 1, 2, 3 or 4 at one to receive key items. Return to Ravorara with these key items to receive rewards of 100-400 gil. Please note that you can only carry 1 of each of the 4 key items at once, or you will lose your bomb ashes in trading. Also, you may make multiple trips to trade ash and turn in key items for the same reward.

After trading sets of 4, 3, 2 and 1 pinches to Brakobrik, he still asks for more. Now, just trade him 1 pinch and say that you do NOT understand what he is saying when he offers a reward. He will apologize to you and give you a key item: Old Nametag. Go back to Ravorara with this item for a cutscene. You will be told to seek out Pavvke, who resides in a house at (I-7) in Bastok Mines. After the cutscene, you will receive 1,200 gil.

This walkthrough sucks 'cause it completely left out an NPC. Now I have to walk back to Bastok!!! Here's a BETTER walkthrough:

I soloed this on my 47 BST, most mobs didn't aggro (the bombs did, but they were easy prey with low/low)- There are a couple of bomb spawns fairly close to the North Gustaberg entrance - just camped them and was fine. I did use prism powders while healing, otherwise the gobs would aggro. I also needed prism powders to reach Brakobrik. All in all not too tough if you can manage hate on the bombs (snarl really helps with that on jug pets).

Thank you for the supplement walkthroughs. They were very very helpful. ^^

I'm sorry, but this Allakhazam version is probably one of the not so good walkthroughs I've read here. I had no idea what it was trying to say half the time. I think it's just how the English is structured, but I almost went through thinking you had to trade him, 1 OR 2 OR 3 OR 4 ashes at once. A trip over Gusta after EVERY single trade is not my idea of fun >.<

And the bit about losing the ash in trading is very confusing. Someone please send in one of the correct forms posted below already, this one isn't very helpful ^^; Although it's good to use as a first run-through guide, it means you get to still do half the quest yourself after you make mistakes.

Unless you want to be repeating yourself and getting frustrated going back and forth around Gustaberg, I recommend reading the lists posted by others below, or that link above. Helpfulness +++ ^^

Also, just for anyone looking for this info because it's related to this quest: If you're level 45 below, things will most definitely aggro, although this seems to also depend on how deep you go. For this quest though, I'd say be level 50 so that there isn't going to be a problem of one aggro and a whole room of links.

And for those people that haven't got a map of the mobbie city yet: When you want to go home, head directly South and head through the cave with 2 Stirges and a set of bats when you get to the first room. There should be a round-about with a bugbear servingman and a goblin marking out the homeward-platform.

Multiple Key Items

This is an awesome quest simply because it lets you immerse yourself in CoP - its got a long, involved storyline and is just plain fun. Something I did though that I've heard you don't have to do... When I would trade one set of hoary bomb ash to the moblin NPC I'd head back to Bastok and trade in the key item. Now i've heard that its possible to just farm all the ash at once and trade it to get all the key items and you'll get a new cutscene each time you talk to the taru. Hey worth a shot anyway, right?
settled finally!

ok this quest even with the posts confused me! but heres the EXACT run for it! go to ayame (K-7) bastok metal works get quest. go talk to ravorara at steaming sheep in port bastok go to oldtown movapolos. i suggest killing the bomb on yer way to talk to brakobrik at K-10 cause youll need the ash anyway. get 11 ash they drop every kill sometimes more than 2 ...id camp the 1 bomb you see on way the cause i couldnt find any others on the way so this saves time runnin around, you just have to be patient n wait for bomb to spawn. with the 11 ash talk to brakobrik then trade the ash...THIS PART MESSED WITH ME HOW OTHERS POSTED IT! trade him in any fashion BUT trade a set of 1, a set of 2, a set of 3 and a set of 4...dont think the order matters but it has to be traded in the increments to get key items...all 4 of em. once you have all 4 key items go back to ravorara at the steaming sheep talk to her then go back to oldtown movapolos and trade 1 more bomb ash but refuse the gift and then youll get key item "old name tag". take that BACK to ravorara shell babble bout it then go to bastok mines and talk to Pavvke at I-7 in a house (posts have said talk to Ranpi-pappi....that npc has nothing to do with this quest so skip him) that cutscene with pavvke is ebd and get yer reward

Nice information -- much better than the guide (which contains multiple confusions). Rated- up, but uh, perhaps some punctuation and formatting would improve it a bit. Here's the same data in your post in a form that's a bit more readable for me (and maybe others):

1. Ayame (K-7) bastok metal works
2. Ravorara (E-7) Bastok Port (Steaming Sheep)
3. Obtain 11 Hoary Bomb Ash (Bazaar or Ancient bombs in Oldton Movapolis)
4. Brakobrik (K-10) Oldton Movapolis
4a. Give Brakobrik 1 ash, receive key item 4a
4b. Give Brakobrik 2 ash, receive key item 4b
4c. Give Brakobrik 3 ash, receive key item 4c
4d. Give Brakobrik 4 ash, receive key item 4d
5. Ravorara, get gil for each of 4a-4d
6. Brakobrik, give 1 ash, refuse reward, get keyitem "Old Nametag"
7. Ravorara, chat
8. Pavvke (I-7) Bastok Mines, inside house for CS+gil

I was trying to make ayame give me my MNK AF6 quest but instead of giving it to me, she gave me this >_< I've been into oldton movapolis a few times but can't find the guy. Also, I havent seen any bombs. I've walked up and down the pathways and found a moblin who wants me to go to Davoi, but no luck. I swear to god I'm gonan lynch Ayame in her sleep or throw her off the second floor of Bastok Metalworks.
Can I?

58 RDM/BLM can solo bombs with ease. Just be sure to keep Stoneskin up.
Invisible and you're fine.
# Jan 31 2005 at 5:29 PM Rating: Decent
You can get past every single mob in here with invisible spell, tonko, or prism powder.
Personally, at level 55, even some of the "easy prey" won't aggro. (THF/NIN)

Guessing you already got the cutscene from entering Oldton Movapolis. If not, then zone in there first and watch the goblin antics.
After the cutscene, go trade a bulb of Misareaux Garlic (found on orcs in misareaux coast - got mine off a trooper) to Mucknix in the Lower Jeuno gobby shop.
I won't spoil it, but you will need at least 10k for this quest. More like 20k if you buy your items instead of hunt them.
I have not completed this quest as there is a BCNM with a lvl 40 cap at one stage (I peeked - 6 person 30 min limit. 1 main moblin mage NM plus 6 other moblin mages in there.) For me, I have a difficult time finding people to do the quests for fun instead of "well, what do I get".
So if any Ramuh people wander through and read this, by all means feel free to throw a /tell my way.

I've completed this quest to a certain point, and can offer the following information:

First you must acquire at least 11 Hoary Bomb Ash to complete this quest. Once you have done so, you have to head to the Moblin NPC mentioned above and trade 10 of them. Depending on the amount of ash you trade, you'll get a different key item. When I did this, I had enough ash to get all four key items. The order in which you trade doesn't matter, but the items you get from trading them are different (ie you get a different item for trading 4 Hoary Bomb Ash than you do for trading 1). Trading 10 bomb ashes overall will get you 4 (ie, trade 4, then 3, then 2, then 1) key items. At that point, you must return to Bastok and talk to the Taru outside the Steaming Sheep Tavern. Talk to him once for every key item you have.

Then, return to Oldton Movolpolis and the NPC that gave you the key items. Trade him one Hoary Bomb Ash and answer "No thanks" to the question he asks you. You will recieve a key item "Old Nametag".

Return to the Taru outside the Steaming Sheep Tavern and talk to him again. You'll get a cutscene where she tells you to talk to Pavvke. Pavvke can be found in the Galka District of Bastok Mines, on the lower level in the SW corner. Head to Pavvke and talk to him for another cut-scene.

You will be told to go to Ayame in Bastok Metalworks (Cannonry in NE corner). When you talk to Ayame, you'll get another cut-scene and be told to talk to Vernaige (sp?) at the Bat's Lair Inn of Bastok Mines. Head there and talk to Vernage for yet another cut-scene (he's in one of the inn rooms...not hard to find). He will give you a key item with instructions to trade it to the moblins in Movalpolos.

That's as far as I've gotten. I'll post more information once I have it.

This is a neat story...if you're of a high enough level to fight Ancient Bombs solo (or have friends willing to help), working on this quest is a great break from the normal grind.

Now if only I could find the Treasure Chest in Oldton Movalpolos....

This makes a better yet journalistic way to write down a walk-through for a

quest that shouldn't be so damn hard to begin with. I would have been content

with just a grocery list style walk-through. Lol, why cann't the world be

simple. ^^

The part that you mention involving Ayame and Virnage is actually a new quest called "A Question of Faith". This one is complete once you talk to Pavvke and receive the 1200 gil.

After talking to Virnage you need to go talk to the Moblin NPC Rakarok in the same area as the NPC for this quest. When you do that a NM bugbear called Bugallug spawns. I got him down to about half HP as BST58, then my jug pet was on the verge of death and the Call Beast timer was not yet up so I had to Instant Warp out. Gonna go back and try again, now that I know what to expect I can let the timer cool down before starting the fight and hopefully 2 jugs should be enough to kill him. He doesn't seem that strong, a normal jug crab was hitting for 80-100 and taking 30-40, but he does have a LOT of HP.

*Edit* Well, once I was better prepared I actually owned him pretty easy with a Funguar jug. No xp gained, I'd guess he's around L40-ish. After you've beaten him talk to Rakarok again and you get a cut-scene (won't spoil it for you), then go back to Virnage to complete the quest (reward 3000g).

I'm not sure where this story continues now. I went back to Ayame again but she didn't have anything new to say.

This quest is definitely not over yet.

After killing the NM, as state above, go back and talk to Ayame for the next part of the quest called "Return to the Depths". You may want to wait the next day or zoning out(i'm not sure on this one coz i got this quest weeks after i kill the NM).

I'm not sure of what to do on this one, but I'll try to do it tonight. I'm pretty sure it would involed going deep into Newton Movopolos by means of the lever found in Oldton Movopolos.

I'll keep you all posted on this one.

these bombs don't aggro at 55..not much help but it does give a general idea of their level and narrows the assumed-aggro range..

--edit--
actually just fought a 2nd one, and got 21xp off it, so, i'd suggest 56 or even 57 to be aggro free from the bombs.. also, this 2nd bomb missed me alot, but Burn still took me down to 47/1068 before it wore off, i was a bit scared ^^;

I received the hint to this quest outside the steaming sheep after the update but before CoP was available in the US. I also received the "cannons" dialogue during this time period. As soon as I installed CoP, the response changed. While I don't know if there is a fame/level requirement for the quest, I definitely can confirm that the cannons response is what you get without CoP.

Uhh, your level is to low to do this really.. that could be it, and fame 2 is pretty low for a quest to an area that is level 40-50s. And do you have the expansion? :P

Ooh my submission finally made it ^^
Anyway, if I wasn't specific enough, would like misc other info on this quest and the 2nd moblin quest, you can read from my original post on this all:
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=10&mid=1096562286524488199

Final thoughts on this quest... reward was very saddening, however the story is actually very interesting when combined with the 2nd moblin quest, and it leaves room for a LOT more moblin mini-storyline to be explored in future patches. Also, killing moblins is worth it just to get smacked by 'frypan'.

To answer questions...
-The second quest is called "A Question of Faith". My walkthrough can be found here
-If you cannot get this quest it's likely a fame requirement. Probably wouldn't want to try it at lvl10 anyway with mobs lvl40+ in your way ; ;
