Summary

Maat has issued a final challenge to test your limits. Return with the items he has requested and the trial will begin.

Walkthrough

Talk to Maat at level 66 or higher to receive this final test. He will ask you to bring him a testimony of your job. These are Rare/Ex items that are dropped by various mobs depending on job.

Prior to a March 26, 2012 software update, a job Testimony was only good for one attempt and had to be manually dropped by the player after the attempt was over. After the software update, each testimony possessed will grant players three attempts at the corresponding battlefield: Shattering Stars / The Beast Within / Breaking the Bonds of Fate / Achieving True Power / A Furious Finale / Survival of the Wisest. The item will disappear upon trading it for the third time.

After you win the fight, make sure you go back and talk to Maat one last time for a cut scene, after which your level cap will be lifted to 75.

You'll likely need a party to beat these mobs efficiently as the drop rate, as for any required quest item, leaves much to be desired. (getting flashbacks of sub job or genkai 1 yet?)

Once you bring Maat the testimony, he will challenge you to a fight to prove once and for all you have ultimate mastery over your job.

Maat assumes your job and has all the abilities of it including your 2hr. Regardless of job however, he fights with his fists and can use asuran fists which could snuff out your hopes of winning in one fell swoop if you don't play your cards right, not to mention he hits pretty hard. Oh yes, your sub job is disabled for this fight so you can expect no help from that. You have 10 minutes to beat Maat and prove yourself to him. Watch out because the old man is WAY tougher than he looks!

Some general tips

-Maat does not attack until you do. Use this to your advantage by buffing yourself and resting to full before fighting.

-melees, buy an opo-opo necklace (TP regen when sleeping) and some sleeping potions. Put yourself to sleep with the necklace on to build up TP to 100% or so.

-Maat is not to be underestimated! Make sure you have any piece of equipment you think could help, use food, carry some medicine supply and have a battle strategy planned out. Do nothing but your very best!

-I'm not 100% sure on this but I'm told that Maat has the same stats as you do when you ENTER the fight. meaning, if you strip yourself (or maybe even equip stuff that lowers your important stats) and then equip your regular gear before fight him, it will give you a statistical advantage on him. Since Maat doesn't attack until you do, there's no real harm in trying this. Can anyone confirm?

Job strategies

Warrior

You'll need the opo-opo necklace, 4 sleep potions, a meat mithkabob and an icarus wing to do this. Be a good idea to macro your warrior abilities along with using the icarus wing as you must do this very smoothly. Enter the arena, eat your food, and put yourself to sleep until you have 100% TP. Once you're all ready, head over to meet and stand right in position. Now, turn on Aggressor, Berserk, Warcry and Mighty Strikes and pull out your weapon. Hit Maat once or twice and then use Raging Rush, immediatly use your icarus wing and then another Raging Rush. If all goes well, you'll do a fragmentation SC (who says only samurai can do one man SC's?). Maat won't know what hit him! If it doesn't quite kill Maat, start praying you finish him off fast as he will whip out his big guns right away which could quickly finish you.

Monk

When you enter the arena, eat a meat mithkabob and then do the usual sleep to 100% TP trick described above. Similar to warrior, engage Maat, use your best weapon skill, icarus wing and then use it again for mega damage. This will prompt Maat to use Hundred Fists, use yours as well. Pound away at Maat until you're at 100% TP again and then quickly use another WS which should take him down.

Thief

Thieves have another option if the player has not already beaten Maat while on another job. Instead of full out assault (described below), you can win by using your Job Ability to Steal a Scroll of Instant Warp from him.

>>> Steal Strategy <<<

  • A Scroll of Instant Warp is a Rare/Ex item, which you can only have one at a time. Be sure that you do not have one anywhere in your inventory when you face Maat (including your Mog House) otherwise you will not be able to Steal the item from Maat.

  • There is a 10 minute limit to this fight, and Steal has a five minute job ability timer, so the first Steal attempt needs to occur immediately upon entering the arena if there is any hope for there to be enough time for a second chance if Steal fails (which it often will).

  • If Steal is attempted without alternate preparation for a full melee fight, this is an all-or-nothing shot and the player should not expect to survive through the job ability timer. Plan on using some form of re-raiser (Scroll, Potion, Earring, or Hairpin), rest until the job ability timer expires and reattempt immediately before the event timer expires.

  • Maximize your stealing skill (Steal+) and equip quested Artifact (AF) gear (Rogue's Armlets -- +1, Rogue's Bonnet -- +1, Rogue's Culottes -- +1, Rogue's Poulaines -- +2) along with anything else you can find that improves stealing like Thief's Kote -- +3 (replaces Rogue's Armlets), Rabbit Charm -- +1, Rogue's Ring -- +3 (effect active when HP is 75% or lower) and Key Ring Belt -- +1 (all of these items are available at 70 or lower).

  • Only items that modify Steal will influence the chance of success or failure of the Job Ability ... the results are not affected by frequency of use (cannot be "skilled up") nor by any other modifier (STR, DEX, INT, and so on). While there are items above Level 70 that modify Steal, the player cannot wear them without having previously beaten Maat and broken the level limit. (A successful Steal will not end the fight if the player has previously beaten Maat on another job).

>>> Melee Fight <<<

  • Cap your skills for your level, particularly Dagger and Evasion and consider capping Parrying and Shield.
  • Use food -- Squid Sushi (HP +20, Accuracy +15%) and Persikos Au Lait (Regen 4 hp/tick and effect lasts 10 minutes = 800 HP)
  • Use equipment -- Opo-Opo Necklace, Blink Band, Spartan Hoplon (optional - casts Phalanx), Bomb Core / Fire Bomblet / Viking Shield (Attack+)
  • Stock up on medicines - Icarus Wing and Potions -- Vile Elixir (restores 25% HP), Vile Elixir +1 (restores 55% HP), Max-Potion, X-Potion, Hi Potion, Potion (consider using the NQ, +1, +2 or +3 versions). Carry as many potions as you feel you need and macro their use.
  • Equip as much Accuracy+ and Strength+ gear you can find. Macro in any gear that will increase Sneak Attack effectiveness.

>>> Battle Plan <<<

  • Equip your weapon(s) and the Opo-Opo Necklace, Sleep Potion x 4 (or Mary's Milk x 2) for 100% TP (do not change weapons or you will lose your TP).
  • Use Reraise, Blink, Phalanx, Squid Sushi and Persikos Au Lait.
  • Approach, use Sneak Attack, and then attack Maat from behind
  • After the first hit, immediately use Dancing Edge
  • Consume Icarus Wing (to regain 100% TP). This will give a Medicated Status Effect for two hours.
  • After gaining 100% TP, immediately use Dancing Edge. If this is done rapidly enough, it will cause a self skill chain resulting in additional damage from a Detonation effect.
  • Evaluate the situation ... If the player is in the yellow for HP, attempt Steal for best effect (Rogue's Ring is active under 75% HP) and then use a HP+ Potion.
  • After the second Dancing Edge, Maat should have used either Perfect Dodge or Asuran Fists. If Asuran Fists, use Perfect Dodge and then Flee until his Perfect Dodge wears off.
  • Re-engage Maat and build TP to 100% and use the third and final Dancing Edge.
  • At this point Maat should give up if he hasn't already.

  • An alternate strategy is to skill up Marksmanship and use Ranged Attack and land Sleep Bolts, particularly while Maat is under the effect of Perfect Dodge. This will give the player the chance to execute one or more additional Sneak Attack(s) while Maat is asleep. (Note: If you equip the Bomb Core or Fire Bomblet in the ammo slot for Attack+, be sure to macro in a safety to unequip the item before executing the Ranged Attack to avoid actually throwing the hard-to-get / expensive Attack+ item at Maat and losing it permanently.)

  • Be sure not to change weapons until after the second Dancing Edge otherwise you will waste the benefits of the Opo-Opo Necklace and the Icarus Wing.

White Mage

White mage? Solo a tough guy like Maat? Well, fortunately, White Mages don't have to actually beat Maat either. You must simply take a certain amount of damage from him and survive. (how much? It appears to be random from what I've seen, best hope you get the low end of the range). Some re-equipping will be in order here. Now you must equip yourself for defense. Some items of note are phalanx rings, earth staff (Ask your paladin friend if you can borrow his. ^^), and bat earrings. Drink a blind potion to give yourself +30 evasion from the bat earrings (you won't be actually attacking so being blinded makes no difference). Bring along a couple bottles of Yagudo drink, plenty of healing potions, some echo drops and a fish chiefkabob (heh, eating tank food. Never thought you'd see the day?) Now, when you enter, cast all your buffs. Protect, Shell, Stoneskin, Aquaveil and Blink and then rest back to full. (you need all your MP for healing so don't waste it recasting these if they wear off). Eat your food and blind yourself then use Yagudo drink and Regen III on yourself. Now cast Paralyze on Maat to get his attention (if it actually sticks, great! But don't fret if it doesn't) Maat should be hitting you for two digit damage so you should have no trouble keeping your HP up. Don't actually attack him, that gives him more TP which is not good. Don't spam lower cures, wait for HP to get somewhat low and use high end cures. More HP for your MP. Basically, you're doing what a paladin would do. But if you're a taru, mind you don't use cures that heal for more HP than you have either. Don't try to enfeeble Maat and only Cure, Silence, or Paralyze if they are cast on you. If all goes smoothly, you likely won't need Benediction but it's good to keep in mind if Maat gets lucky shots in and you need healing NOW. Just keep taking hits and healing them and Maat will eventually give up.

Black Mage

Do this right, you'll win easy. For good measure, get your INT as high as possible with food and equips. Enter Area, cast your favourite ancient spell, quickly use elemental seal-sleep II on Maat before he can retaliate. Now get him with another ancient spell while he's asleep. Now, bind him so he can't smack you around for nuking him and fire off a regular elemental spell (best one you have). That should finish him off. If all goes well, Maat will never get a shot off at you. ^^

Red Mage

Very commonly considered the hardest of all the Maat fights and for good reason. Chainspell in the hands of an enemy is never a good thing and this time, you don't have the chainspell-stun solution to fall back on. I guess the best defense against a master of cheatery is another master of cheatery. ^^; What's a red mage to do? Luck plays a big role in this fight so say your prayers before doing this. First and foremost, get a wind staff. You'll need it. Get your INT as high as you possibly can, every last point counts. Enter, dash towards Maat, dispel and sleep him immediately. While he's asleep, cast your own buffs, and dispel any and all he has on himself. Nuke Maat with Aero III until you're out of MP, convert, heal youself back up with hi-potions. Now the big guns. Chainspell aero III as fast as you can, Maat will do the same. Chainspell should finish him off. If it doesn't, continue to nuke and hope it's enough. Good luck!

Paladin

Time to show Maat who's the real defender of truth and justice! Mwa ha ha!! (Yes, I'm a paladin. How'd you guess?) Like white mage, some changes in equipment is in order here. You'll want damage dealing equipment instead of tanking but keep the sword and shield, you'll need them. Bring along an Opo-opo necklace, sleep potions, hi-potions, vile elixer or two, yagudo drink and meat mithkabob. Now, when you enter the arena, do the usual routine. Sleep yourself to 100% TP, drink your drink, eat your eats, cast your buffs and move in. Use Sentinel as soon as you engage Maat and then use Rampart when that runs out. Like warrior and monk, use your best WS right off the bat, use the icarus wing and then immediatly hit Maat again with another WS to get some good early damage. But watch out! If he flashes you right away, hold off the WS until the blindness wears off. Now, duel Maat, healing yourself along the way and shield bashing him if he tries to cast Banish III. Maat will eventually use invincible, flash him and kite him when he does this. (don't disengage, that takes too long. Just push L3 to break targeting and run around the room) Just try to stall until Maat's Invincible runs out. If you get a chance to nuke him, do so but watch your MP. When his invincible runs out, now it's your turn! Activate your own invincible and fearlessly charge back in! Attack Maat mercilessly and take this chance to heal yourself up with items. (wouldn't it just rock if Maat used Asuran fists right now? Heh heh!) By the time invincible runs out, you should have another WS ready. Use it and hopefully it will finish him off. If it doesn't, hopefully you brought enough medicine to hold your ground until another WS is ready.

Dark Knight

This is a pretty straightforeward fight actually but it's very important to carry lots of hi-potions and macro them. You'll be using a lot. Like the other melees, use an Opo-opo necklace, sleep yourself to 100% TP, use ws, icarus wing, ws right away. Use def or atk food, your choice. Most of your spells won't be very effective against Maat so don't bother. Just focus on hacking Maat up good. (but always hope he wastes turns using stupid spells like Absorb-CHR) Drain might come in handy but I wouldn't bank on it. Use your hi-potions to keep up your HP as you fight and your attack up skills should be done at your own discretion. The biggest threat is Blood Weapon. When Maat activates it, push L3 to break target lock and run around the room to reduce the number of times he attacks you. You DON'T want him regaining lost HP. once his blood weapon runs out, activate your own take back some of the punishment he's dealt you. (if your HP are still in good shape, this wouldnt' be a bad time to use souleater too) Use WS when they're ready and you should be okay as long as you are ready for anything Maat throws at you. Just beware not to use Guillotine when soul eater is activated or you could very well end up digging your own grave.

Ranger

Another fairly straightforward fight. Only thing to take note of is that Maat will either use Eagle Eye Shot right away or in retaliation to a WS. Moral: if he hasn't used Eagle Eye Shot yet, be careful not to use a ws if you haven't got the HP to take it. Your best bet is to try and tempt him to use it right away while you're still at full HP. Use Shadowbind so he can't melee attack you (and thus possibly use Asuran Fists). Other than that, do the usual Opo-opo necklace sleep to 100% TP, icarus wings and stock up on hi-potions. Fill him up full of firepower and be done with it. A Tracker's Earring helps.

Beastmaster

Not too hard. Bring along a Panzer Ghalad for this fight along with the usual Opo-opo necklace, sleep potions, hi-potions and some def up food (I personally like fish chiefkabobs as a dedicated tank but it's up to you). Okay, sleep yourself to 100% TP, summon your pet and sic it on Maat while you fight Maat's pet but don't use your WS on Maat's pet, that's for Maat himself. once you kill Maat's pet, run out of range, heal yourself back up with hi-potions and let your pet fight Maat to the death. Now run in and hit Maat with rampage. That should send him packing. (as for your 2hr, I suspect using it will prompt Maat to use his as well which could give you trouble. If you don't need to use it, then don't. No need to risk it)

Bard

Max out your sword level for this as Spirits Within will be your best friend here. Bring along the usual melee stuff, Opo-necklace, sleep potions, hi potions along with def food and a stack of Selbina milk. When you enter the arena, watch Maat and see what he's buffing himself with. Eat your food, sleep yourself to 100% Tp and then use your icarus wing which should bring you up to 200% (yeah, little different set up this time). Now, drink your Selbina milk. This is your "finale blocker." If Maat finales you, it will remove the milk effect instead of your songs. Drink another milk if Maat finales you. Use soul voice along with your best songs. Now, use finale on Maat if he has any potentially threatening buffs on (that's why I said to watch what he does when you enter.) and debuff him. Now, hit him with Spirits Within for a strong early hit. Now it's just a matter of fighting him, using WS as they come up. Finale any buffs Maat puts up and drink milk if he finales you.

Samurai

Get ready to amaze even yourself with some fancy WSing. Bring along a few pear au lait, meat mithkabob and some hi-potions. Enter the burning circle and use meditate, making sure to wait for it to recharge before you enter to confront Maat. When you enter, use third eye and use your food and drink. Now, use the following skills: Tachi: Yukikaze > Meikyo Shisui > Tachi: Gekko (Fragmentation) > Meditate > Tachi: Yukikaze > Tachi: Gekko (Fragmentation) > Tachi: Gekko. After the smoke clears, simply continue to duel Maat, drinking potions to keep health up and drink another pear au lait when the first one runs out.

Ninja

Cast Utsusemi: Ni, sleep yourself to 100% and eat your food as normal. The biggest threat is Maat's 2hr for which you must keep your HP above 700 in preparation for. Enter the arena. Maat will have Utsusemi: Ni on so don't unleash your WS until you've killed his shadows. Hit Maat with Blade: Chi or ten then proceed to Paralyze, Slow and Blind Maat. At all times, keep your HP above 700 so Maat's 2hr doesn't kill you. Once that's past, it's straightforward from there on.

Dragoon

Bring along a fish chiefkabob, a stack of hi potions, sleep potions and some Selbina milk. Use the sleep potions and Opo-necklace to get your TP up like always. Summon your wyvern and use your food and drink. Now, engage Maat and hit him five times or so and he will summon his wyvern. By this time, you should have 100% TP. Penta thrust Maat's wyvern but don't change targets, this will prompt your wyvern to breath on Maat. Jump and high jump, hit Maat a few times then use super jump and then immediatly break target and turn away from Maat (so you're engaged still but not attacking Maat). Maat and your wyvern will be locked in battle and with some luck, your wyvern will finish him off for you. If it doesn't, turn around and take him out yourself. He should be near death by now.

Summoner

Short fight but it's all or nothing. When you enter, use Earthen Ward and Aerial Armor on yourself and get your MP back to full before confronting Maat and drink a Yagudo drink. Bring out whichever avatar is strongest on the current day (or Fenrir if you have him) and immediately use Astral Flow, refill your MP with ethers quickly and use Astral Flow again as soon as it's ready. That should take out Maat. If Maat uses Astral Flow himself, you will not survive. You simply have to be quicker at the draw, nothing more to it.

Yeah.... I hate this old man now... It is such a total pain stealing a testimony as a THF, to top it off I run in, use Hide, try to steal, fail, get double hit for 234 and 250 damage before I can switch to evasion gear (I only have 940 HP at my lvl), back off to try and use a potion, and he finishes me off in all of 30 seconds.

The best and only advice i could give anyone when fighting maat is to not panic. I've fought him twice and both times i did it as a 70blm/35whm i lost cause i paniced and forgot what i was going to do. i would go in there Burst and right after i would he would start casting something that could more than likely kill me like firaga 3 (and being a taru that would kill me cause i have a lil less than 700 hp) so instead of stuning him i would run away and mess up my whole plan.... so my adive is to not panic like me ^^... good luck everyone... this guy is no push over

Edit:
mwahahaha finally beat him about 3 hours ago and i figured out what my best strategy is... here goes... when you go in... buff up and heal to full... then get as far away from him as you can to cast a spell... cast your strongest AM then when he starts casting something run away.. out of his range... as soon as you get out of his range use elemental seal and manafont... wait for him to come over the ridge and cast sleep 2... then firaga 3.. then stun... the stone 4.. dead... he didnt get a shot off on me ^^... good luck to all the aspiring blms out there

I'm a RDM who beat maat yesterday in about 5 minutes. What i did was eat a rolandberry pie before i entered, and i ran straight to him the second i entered the BC. When i felt i was in casting range (just barely) i casted Sleep2. It was resisted and i immediately casted dispel after sleep2, then i casted sleep1. he was slept then i casted Refresh, Blink, silence like 3 times until it worked, then nuked with Aero3, sleep2 immediately afterward took Blink off and recasted it, then Aero3, sleep2, Aero3, sleep2, sleep1, silence, and blink. I Aero3 then he chainspelled and i casted sleep2 immediately. drank Vile Elixir +1 and rested a bit, got up, Aero3, sleep2 and then cure IV twice and convert
cureiv cureiv then chainspell Aero3, Aero3. he died, and i won. My elemental was 225, my enfeebling was 262, my evasion was 178. My int+ was 18 and i all my Aero3s hit for 334. i fought on Earthsday and used Dark Staff for Sleeps and Wind Staff for Aero3. I also used Light Staff for CureIV. This was just my situation, and it worked for me. I hope it helps a little bit at least, but i know it is repetative and you said you tried the sleep nuke method. Still maybe i did something you forgot. Good luck and hope you beat him! ^^

SAM Fight
# Sep 03 2005 at 9:20 AM Rating: Decent
I must say the guide for the SAM fight is a bit overkill. I went in with a Blink band, Meditated, waited for Meditate to come back up, and started my Skillchain.
Yukikaze >> Gekko >> Yukikaze and he was dead. I didn't even get to whip out my last WS from Meikyo Shisui, much less use my Icarus wing. My blink band ate up his first and second WS's, and his Spinning Attack did a whopping 180 damage. So yeah, I'd say this guide was a bit overkill. (Note I was an Elvaan SAM, so I did go for the total offense strategy.)

Being Elvaan probably had a lot to do with his quick fall.

I also beat the Ol' {******* sword} recently, and he fell after 4 WSs (I'm a Hume).

My best advice to SAMs (after losing 2 times to Maat) is WAIT TIL YOU ARE 70!! Also, if you use a blink band, be ready to mash your Third Eye macro for his third WS. The last thing you wanna do is catch a Tackle (stun) or Asuran Fists (death) for a 3rd WS.

In case any are interested, I have my Video of my Maat Fight at:

http://files.filefront.com/tildvsmaatavi/;4108930;;/fileinfo.html

Pretty straight forward, like most Maat fights are for SAM. Be ready for his Combo > Spinning Attack > Tackle chain... if you don't break the Fusion, you're as good as dead.

Grimlok's Defensive Strategy for SAM fight (gets you the win no matter what your luck happens to be like):

Here is my guide for the Sam fight. People who follow the MysteryTour strategy and win easily are what we call LUCKY. Here is the guide to use when you don't feel like using luck and just want to win hands down:

Get a blink band. Get a Vile Elixir. Get a Vile Elixir +1. Get a Hi-Potion+2. Get an Icarus Wing. Get a Pear au Lait.

Trade Sam Testimony to Maat. Remove armor before going into teleporter. Trade Sam Testimony and watch hours of farming evaporate into the electromagnetic static or whatever.

Once inside the actual BCNM arena, put armor back on, Meditate ---> important ---> have weapon equipped before using Meditate otherwise I think it erases your Tactical Points! Equip Blink Band, wait for the timer on it to work. Use it as an item, gaining the effect of Blink. Now, equip your AF Myochin Helmet so that you have that AND blink up. Use food like Sole Sushi. Use your Pear au Lait ONLY just before actually confronting Maat, otherwise it'll wear off before it is useful.

Start fighting Maat. Pop Meikyo Shisui ASAP so that you try and force Maat to expend his Weapon Skills into the Blink. This is the part of the fight that usually has some luck involved. Lucky People get 2 or more WS blinked off and say they have teh uber l33t skills. Whatever, they just lucky and don't know it.

At this point, it might be tricky for you. Priority of the fight is survival of Maat's version of the 2 hour. So if your HP is low, use the Vile Elixir +1 right then and there. If your HP is not so low, hit Thrid Eye when the Blink wears off and you might blink off ANOTHER one of his Weapon Skills. ...if you're lucky. heh.

Either way, after the 2 hour your HP will get low and this is where you pop the Vile Elixir +1 and destroy Maat no matter what your luck is like (this recovers 50% of your HP). Maat might even have some Meditate left in him and for this you have the normal Vile Elixir. Also, at this point, lets say you had bad luck and missed weapon skills even with food on. It happens... that's why you took an Icarus Wing. Pop that and spam up some Gekko on Maat. You will win this way and thank me for not having to spend 6 more hours in wonderful Castle Zvahl.

PALADIN fight

I defeated Maat on my 3rd attempt, when I decided not to exactly listen to the previous posts.
First, I entered with all my usual armor on, I only bought an Espadon for some Attack+ and the Opo-opo thing.
Here is how I did :
- I entered the arena, buffed myself, used one HI-Ether and a melon juice, in order to have full MP. After that, I used the 4 Sleep potions and wore back my Gorget.
Don't forget your food.
- Then, it was time to kick some Old Man's *** ^^
- Swift Blade, Icarus Wing, Swift Blade, Flash, Yagudo Drink, Rampart.
- Flash him and Shield Bash him everytime it's ready.
- Here's the big difference with other posts : when he casts Invincible, CAST IT TOO ! And heal yourself with some Hi-Potions and a Vile elixir (+1) You should have 100% HP and 80% MP. It's now a real piece of cake, go on with Flash, Shield Bash, Sentinel, Swift Blade etc... He should give up in less than 2 minutes now.

This method is great for Races with low MP, like Elvaan and Galkas, and some friends did it and killed Maat at the first time like this.

So Good Luck everyone, and you can send me a /tell if you are on Bahamut server. ^^

I hate this stupid quest so much. Every single time I fight him he either resists Sleep at a vital time (I always go on Darkday and use my Dark Staff) or he will chain Asuran Fists on me.

The closest I have ever come to winning is having him one Aero III away from defeat, then he hits me with Asuran Fists and interrupts my casting. Half a second later, a second Asuran Fists kills me. I tried it last night, but again he resists Sleep twice in a row and hits me with Howling Fist, THEN Chainspells. This, added to his 100-120 dmg per hit pretty much ended it. Again.

My friend and I have concluded that he will only do Asuran Fists after he Chainspells, so you must either defeat him before he does it or while his Chainspell is still active. After that, expect him to do as many as three Asuran Fists in a row. I don't bother silencing him now, because he will often waste time casting Blind, Bind, Slow etc. Any form of Spikes is a bad idea, because if you land Sleep on him and he is hitting you, the Spikes damage can wake him up. Then you have to wait on Sleep recast to disable him again - you seriously do not want to be waiting 10-14 seconds, helpless, while he's pounding on you.

Before people suggest it, I have plenty of INT, because I spent a lot of money buying my Wood Gloves and Forest Rope a while ago, as well as using Pies once in the BCNM.

Why do we Red Mages have to defeat him the same way a Black Mage would? Our job isn't defined by nuking something with our sub-par Elemental magic skill (lower than a DRK's). It's about being diverse and covering all areas of combat. It is not supposed to be 98% luck and 2% how much money you can throw away buying Black Mage equipment to be able to win...

i beat maat yesterday (/hurray), it took me quite a few fights >.>; ... heres a tip that one of my LS mate gave me (dont know if i won bc of that, or just luck but...) try a gramary cape (spelling and if you havent yet) lvl 50 back piece, gives magic accuracy +1 and some magic defense. the first sleep i casted resisted O.O which freaked me out but casted sleep 1 and it stucked.
and from my experience (i always died by his asuran fist x2) he usually asuran fists @ about 50% so be prepared to sleep/bind whatever to keep him away from you.
and on my win, he was at about 30% HP i would say, and after one aeroIII he gave up :)

F'd the Sh*t out of Maat
# Aug 24 2005 at 12:01 AM Rating: Default
Ok, I did this twice for Blm. First time I read about it in this forum and a couple other places. I decided that the best way to learn was to try it out as a test trial as a 69 Blm. It was a slaughter. He owned me. It went something like this:

Enter circle, eat +1 Pie, heal up and use blaze spikes. I used Freeze because +10 Elemental Skill, he shouldn't resist much. I did about 553 damage. He immediately cast poisonga and blizzard3. My macros failed for Elemental Seal so I cast sleep2, it didnt stick, retried ES and failed. Cast Sleepga2. Didn't stick. He caught up to me and slapped me dead. I was devistated. I heard Blm was easy.

Well, I was not going to make the same mistake I waited one more lvl and maxed elemental and almost enfeebling maxed 1 lvl shy. I bought about 200k in antidotes, echo drops, ethers, elixirs, potions, yaguda drinks and a persikos au let and an inteligence potion(most of these are items are just in case or had on me). I went in used the pie+1 immediately, cast spikes and healed. Stood up, used the persikos, the yaguda drink and the int. potion. I cast freeze, this time 600 damage. I run out of the BC and switch to dark staff and ES and sleep. Funny thing is I wait and wait he doesnt come. He just wont chase you. Once you run out of range he won't move. Remember that for your Maat run, he doesnt give chase. So I inch closer until Im in range, then cast sleep2 it sticks. I then cast bind and firaga3. I do about 591 damage. He chases me and I stun and bind. This time I cant sleep so he immediately casts firaga3 on me for 670 damage and he casts Bliz3. I ran out of range. I then use 2 X-potions and an elixir. Then I come after him and hes already unbound. I cast Firaga3 for the kill, he punches me and stuns my spell, I recast and he immediately casts Firaga3. But I cast first. Another 591 damage and he drops dead.

Ok, so the best thing I can say is you need run away from Maat. I noticed as soon as I cast freeze and ran out of the BC he never moved an inch. I had to walk all the way back to sleep him. Same with after the Firaga3, I had to come back for him to fight me again. He has a range, use it to your advantage.

I went as 70 drk this fight was rather easy, with a few equipment mods and some food your set, ill list what i did to defeat maat.
first before i entered the burning circle i unequiped all my armor and weapons, than equipped 2 coral rings (-9 acc each) than entered the circle. once inside i equiped blink band and opo opo necklace. with 4 sleeping potions i got to 100% TP, used one of the blink band charges for blink effect. ate a steamed crab (for defense) drank an apple au laute ( hp regen) i re-equipped all my normal equipment which i will list, (( Darksteel scythe, bomb core, mermans gorget, chaos burgonet, ( DRK head) mermans earing, ( i unequiped my assault earing due to its -def and -evasion), 1 woodsman ring, ( unequiped my sniper ring), hauberk, thick mufflers, thick sollerets, thick beeches, life belt, and ameiet mantle +1)) after this i ran in locked onto maat and as soon as i was in striking range i last resort and guillotined him used my icarus wing and souleater and guillotine him again. he than bloodweaponed, i stunned him and ran down the long hall you entered from after my blink charges where gone i bloodweaponed and continued hitting him until i had enough TP to guillotine him a 3rd time to win the fight (time was 5m 40 seconds) [was 5 seconds short of making a new record] ; ; hope this helps any dark knight adventurers.

The 1 time i fought him i actually timed out of the match andhe was at 10% hp.. i thought he was supposed to give up at 10% but lol he did not. so yeah gonna try again tonight. spent another 900k on items for it hopefully i win o.O

Lady Luck was with me when I went to fight Maat the second time :D

I went in naked, then equipped AF, and all my evasion gear I had (Emp Hairpin, Nomad Mantle, Dodge Earring, etc) and went off with a SA. I had capped evasion at lv68 (241) so he couldn't hit me much. What he did hit he hit for a critical, and that dropped my health significantly (I got a 0.4 in shield though as I blocked a critical XD). I tried blinding him with 194 marksmanship but to no avail. One critical for 260 drove me into panic, so I stuck in my rogue's ring, full AF and crossed my fingers.

Well, I stole the warp scroll from him, and was absolutely ecstatic. I planned to go melee Maat's *** the third time but it seems he wasn't so keen on it :D

a great strat a friend told me,very simple. enter this fight at lvl 66-69 but NOT 70 and have 500 exp or less to next lvl and have a page of dragon chronicles. then simply do the normal strat for your job (this works best if u have sleep) then when u need a large amount of hp and/or mp back immobalize maat then simply use the page and not only are u fully healed but u have higher stats now kick his ***!

Hi There~

I've fought Maat a couple of times, as both my Jobs(RDM, BLM), and I am not going into how difficult the RDM was (It's all about luck peoples :3).

I, being the type who just likes to test myself, decided to fight Maat as a BLM as well as a RDM, though it was not needed. I got my first BLM testi; as a level 60 BLM and I kept it ever since, upon hitting level 66 I decided to fight Maat.

Gear-
Penitent's Rope
Elemental Torque
Blink Band
Full AF(minus feet for RSE)
Melon Pie + 1
Zircon Earring x2
Morion Earring
Moldavite Earring
Phantom Tathlum
Custom M Boots (Hume only)
Reraise Scroll
Fire Staff
Dark Staff
Thunder Staff

Once in the BC I used the Blink band, hoping for the best. Used Reraise because I thought It might do some good if I still had Manafont. Used my Melon Pie + 1.

I came just to the outside circle of Maat's arena, using my Flare Macro ( /ma "Flare" <bt> /equip main "Fire Staff" /recast "Flare") and waiting for it to hit I readied my fingers for my next macro. The flare hit (Resisted: 233 damage) and I used my ES+ Sleep II Macro on him, then Casting Firaga II (Resisted: 56 damage) after he woke up I was able to sleep him once again with a normal sleep, used manafont at this point and cast Burst (Resisted: 78 damage) resulting in a pissed off maat coming over and wacking me a few times til my blink wore and I died.

Naturally I was a little pissed, Resisted?!? Bull****! I know many a BLM that had beat him at this level, I couldn't believe it, had I not been resisted I would have won.. I'll try again, and try I did. This time was the same outcome. I talked to my BLM friends who had beat him at 66-68 and found an interesting point that I failed to overlook, they were all Taru - .-; Now as I really never feel inferior, being a hume myself, the sad truth is at this level Taru have about 9 more base INT then any other race, this means they are less likely to be resisted. Oh well. I tried again at level 68.

Gear-
Penitent's Rope
Elemental Torque
Blink Band
Black Cloak
Wizard's Gloves
Wizard's Tonbon
Melon Pie + 1
Zircon Earring x2
Morion Earring
Moldavite Earring
Phantom Tathlum
Custom M Boots (Hume only)
Reraise Scroll
Fire Staff
Dark Staff
Thunder Staff

Once in the BC I used the Blink band. Used Reraise. Used my Melon Pie + 1. I ran to my usual spot and hit my macro for Flare(733 damage) at this point I was so psyched! I might win! I ES+ Sleep II'd him; and once again cast Firaga II(123 damage), this time following up with a Water II(34 damage) for some extra damage. At this point I manafonted and cast Burst, because he cast Burn(DoT on me, as I was going threw the spell he cast Wateraga III(782 damage) on me, his spell naturally hit before mine, and my blink band did nothing to help, just wore but I was still alive, my Burst hit for 233 damage(....) and Maat ran up to finish the job with a quick punch.

Getting tired of losing to him? I think so, this time I waited til lvl 70, and even brung some extra equipment.

Gear-
Penitent's Rope
Enfeebling Torque
Elemental Torque
Blink Band
Black Cloak
Wizard's Gloves
Wizard's Tonbon
Melon Pie + 1
Zircon Earring x2
Morion Earring
Moldavite Earring
Phantom Tathlum
Custom M Boots (Hume only)
Fire Staff
Dark Staff
Thunder Staff

Once in the BC I used the Blink band. No Reraise. Used my Melon Pie + 1. I ran to my normal spot. I started to cast Flare(733 damage) and hit my sleep macro (/ma "Sleep II" <t> /equip neck "Enfeebling Torque" /wait 6 /equip neck "Elemental Torque") and there he was sleeping like a baby (yay! saved my ES!) I cast Firaga II(233 damage) and he woke once more, naturally I let him sleep for a little bit so that I could reuse my sleep II, and I did, it stuck(if you have ever been RDM fighting maat you know that he loves to resist this little spell) I let him sleep long enough to hit my ES + Burst(663 damage) just as my friend sent me a /tell "KICK HIS MUTHA****IN ***SSSSSSS". The next thing I know Maat was congratualting me.

The moral of the story: Make sure your magic is capped, and unless you're a taru or can afford all the top INT gear(which sadly I don't feel like paying for, though I could probably get it)I wouldn't try to beat him before level 69-70.

Hope this helps out a little with people having issues.

you did the same thing i did only you did it all three times and still won, why follow flare with anything that has to do with fire... flare states: deals fire damage to an enemy and lowers its resistance to "water"... anyone else ever check this before. cause this was my problem. after some quick macro fixing... freeze(the setup) > stun> sleep> Flare> waterga III ripped him a new one and this was all on firesday so my strongest spell would hit the hardest ^^ anyways who cares how ya did it CONGRATS on beating maat ^^

I've beaten Maat as BLM, got a new testimony, and was hoping that I could continue to use the Teleport-Ronfaure trick (trade testimony to Maat, then cast Escape, which takes you to West Ronfaure). But now when I trade this new testimony to Maat, it does nothing! Will he teleport you to the burning circle if you want to retake the fight?

Just beat Maat as of 7/31/05. Went in as 70 RDM with full AF, Wind Staff, and as much INT as I could get. I did not bring any potions with me. Here's my strategy:

I beat him the same way I beat Ruby 4 times. When you enter the BC, cast your buffs: Protect, Shell, Blink, Stoneskin, Phalanx, Refresh, and Ice Spikes. When I ran up to Maat I cast Dispel, which would be the obvious case, but it only took shadows away due to his Blink. After his Blink was gone, and I took a few punches, I slept him. Once he was slept Dispel him a few times and silence him. Make sure he is silenced. After you silence him, nuke with Aero III and sleep after. The nuke / sleep combo works great. Once you are almost out of MP sleep him again, make sure he is silenced. Convert, cure, cure, Chainspell. Once you use Chainspell, Maat will also. At this point, you spam Aero III. Don't worry about sleeping or silencing him, just nuke. That should take care of him.

Previous record on my server (CaitSith) 9 minutes 45 seconds.
NEW RECORD by me - 7 minutes 44 seconds ^^
(All right!)
