Summary

Maat has issued a final challenge to test your limits. Return with the items he has requested and the trial will begin.

Walkthrough

Talk to Maat at level 66 or higher to receive this final test. He will ask you to bring him a testimony of your job. These are Rare/Ex items that are dropped by various mobs depending on job.

Prior to a March 26, 2012 software update, a job Testimony was only good for one attempt and had to be manually dropped by the player after the attempt was over. After the software update, each testimony possessed will grant players three attempts at the corresponding battlefield: Shattering Stars / The Beast Within / Breaking the Bonds of Fate / Achieving True Power / A Furious Finale / Survival of the Wisest. The item will disappear upon trading it for the third time.

After you win the fight, make sure you go back and talk to Maat one last time for a cut scene, after which your level cap will be lifted to 75.

You'll likely need a party to beat these mobs efficiently as the drop rate, as for any required quest item, leaves much to be desired. (getting flashbacks of sub job or genkai 1 yet?)

Once you bring Maat the testimony, he will challenge you to a fight to prove once and for all you have ultimate mastery over your job.

Maat assumes your job and has all the abilities of it including your 2hr. Regardless of job however, he fights with his fists and can use asuran fists which could snuff out your hopes of winning in one fell swoop if you don't play your cards right, not to mention he hits pretty hard. Oh yes, your sub job is disabled for this fight so you can expect no help from that. You have 10 minutes to beat Maat and prove yourself to him. Watch out because the old man is WAY tougher than he looks!

Some general tips

-Maat does not attack until you do. Use this to your advantage by buffing yourself and resting to full before fighting.

-melees, buy an opo-opo necklace (TP regen when sleeping) and some sleeping potions. Put yourself to sleep with the necklace on to build up TP to 100% or so.

-Maat is not to be underestimated! Make sure you have any piece of equipment you think could help, use food, carry some medicine supply and have a battle strategy planned out. Do nothing but your very best!

-I'm not 100% sure on this but I'm told that Maat has the same stats as you do when you ENTER the fight. meaning, if you strip yourself (or maybe even equip stuff that lowers your important stats) and then equip your regular gear before fight him, it will give you a statistical advantage on him. Since Maat doesn't attack until you do, there's no real harm in trying this. Can anyone confirm?

Job strategies

Warrior

You'll need the opo-opo necklace, 4 sleep potions, a meat mithkabob and an icarus wing to do this. Be a good idea to macro your warrior abilities along with using the icarus wing as you must do this very smoothly. Enter the arena, eat your food, and put yourself to sleep until you have 100% TP. Once you're all ready, head over to meet and stand right in position. Now, turn on Aggressor, Berserk, Warcry and Mighty Strikes and pull out your weapon. Hit Maat once or twice and then use Raging Rush, immediatly use your icarus wing and then another Raging Rush. If all goes well, you'll do a fragmentation SC (who says only samurai can do one man SC's?). Maat won't know what hit him! If it doesn't quite kill Maat, start praying you finish him off fast as he will whip out his big guns right away which could quickly finish you.

Monk

When you enter the arena, eat a meat mithkabob and then do the usual sleep to 100% TP trick described above. Similar to warrior, engage Maat, use your best weapon skill, icarus wing and then use it again for mega damage. This will prompt Maat to use Hundred Fists, use yours as well. Pound away at Maat until you're at 100% TP again and then quickly use another WS which should take him down.

Thief

Thieves have another option if the player has not already beaten Maat while on another job. Instead of full out assault (described below), you can win by using your Job Ability to Steal a Scroll of Instant Warp from him.

>>> Steal Strategy <<<

  • A Scroll of Instant Warp is a Rare/Ex item, which you can only have one at a time. Be sure that you do not have one anywhere in your inventory when you face Maat (including your Mog House) otherwise you will not be able to Steal the item from Maat.

  • There is a 10 minute limit to this fight, and Steal has a five minute job ability timer, so the first Steal attempt needs to occur immediately upon entering the arena if there is any hope for there to be enough time for a second chance if Steal fails (which it often will).

  • If Steal is attempted without alternate preparation for a full melee fight, this is an all-or-nothing shot and the player should not expect to survive through the job ability timer. Plan on using some form of re-raiser (Scroll, Potion, Earring, or Hairpin), rest until the job ability timer expires and reattempt immediately before the event timer expires.

  • Maximize your stealing skill (Steal+) and equip quested Artifact (AF) gear (Rogue's Armlets -- +1, Rogue's Bonnet -- +1, Rogue's Culottes -- +1, Rogue's Poulaines -- +2) along with anything else you can find that improves stealing like Thief's Kote -- +3 (replaces Rogue's Armlets), Rabbit Charm -- +1, Rogue's Ring -- +3 (effect active when HP is 75% or lower) and Key Ring Belt -- +1 (all of these items are available at 70 or lower).

  • Only items that modify Steal will influence the chance of success or failure of the Job Ability ... the results are not affected by frequency of use (cannot be "skilled up") nor by any other modifier (STR, DEX, INT, and so on). While there are items above Level 70 that modify Steal, the player cannot wear them without having previously beaten Maat and broken the level limit. (A successful Steal will not end the fight if the player has previously beaten Maat on another job).

>>> Melee Fight <<<

  • Cap your skills for your level, particularly Dagger and Evasion and consider capping Parrying and Shield.
  • Use food -- Squid Sushi (HP +20, Accuracy +15%) and Persikos Au Lait (Regen 4 hp/tick and effect lasts 10 minutes = 800 HP)
  • Use equipment -- Opo-Opo Necklace, Blink Band, Spartan Hoplon (optional - casts Phalanx), Bomb Core / Fire Bomblet / Viking Shield (Attack+)
  • Stock up on medicines - Icarus Wing and Potions -- Vile Elixir (restores 25% HP), Vile Elixir +1 (restores 55% HP), Max-Potion, X-Potion, Hi Potion, Potion (consider using the NQ, +1, +2 or +3 versions). Carry as many potions as you feel you need and macro their use.
  • Equip as much Accuracy+ and Strength+ gear you can find. Macro in any gear that will increase Sneak Attack effectiveness.

>>> Battle Plan <<<

  • Equip your weapon(s) and the Opo-Opo Necklace, Sleep Potion x 4 (or Mary's Milk x 2) for 100% TP (do not change weapons or you will lose your TP).
  • Use Reraise, Blink, Phalanx, Squid Sushi and Persikos Au Lait.
  • Approach, use Sneak Attack, and then attack Maat from behind
  • After the first hit, immediately use Dancing Edge
  • Consume Icarus Wing (to regain 100% TP). This will give a Medicated Status Effect for two hours.
  • After gaining 100% TP, immediately use Dancing Edge. If this is done rapidly enough, it will cause a self skill chain resulting in additional damage from a Detonation effect.
  • Evaluate the situation ... If the player is in the yellow for HP, attempt Steal for best effect (Rogue's Ring is active under 75% HP) and then use a HP+ Potion.
  • After the second Dancing Edge, Maat should have used either Perfect Dodge or Asuran Fists. If Asuran Fists, use Perfect Dodge and then Flee until his Perfect Dodge wears off.
  • Re-engage Maat and build TP to 100% and use the third and final Dancing Edge.
  • At this point Maat should give up if he hasn't already.

  • An alternate strategy is to skill up Marksmanship and use Ranged Attack and land Sleep Bolts, particularly while Maat is under the effect of Perfect Dodge. This will give the player the chance to execute one or more additional Sneak Attack(s) while Maat is asleep. (Note: If you equip the Bomb Core or Fire Bomblet in the ammo slot for Attack+, be sure to macro in a safety to unequip the item before executing the Ranged Attack to avoid actually throwing the hard-to-get / expensive Attack+ item at Maat and losing it permanently.)

  • Be sure not to change weapons until after the second Dancing Edge otherwise you will waste the benefits of the Opo-Opo Necklace and the Icarus Wing.

White Mage

White mage? Solo a tough guy like Maat? Well, fortunately, White Mages don't have to actually beat Maat either. You must simply take a certain amount of damage from him and survive. (how much? It appears to be random from what I've seen, best hope you get the low end of the range). Some re-equipping will be in order here. Now you must equip yourself for defense. Some items of note are phalanx rings, earth staff (Ask your paladin friend if you can borrow his. ^^), and bat earrings. Drink a blind potion to give yourself +30 evasion from the bat earrings (you won't be actually attacking so being blinded makes no difference). Bring along a couple bottles of Yagudo drink, plenty of healing potions, some echo drops and a fish chiefkabob (heh, eating tank food. Never thought you'd see the day?) Now, when you enter, cast all your buffs. Protect, Shell, Stoneskin, Aquaveil and Blink and then rest back to full. (you need all your MP for healing so don't waste it recasting these if they wear off). Eat your food and blind yourself then use Yagudo drink and Regen III on yourself. Now cast Paralyze on Maat to get his attention (if it actually sticks, great! But don't fret if it doesn't) Maat should be hitting you for two digit damage so you should have no trouble keeping your HP up. Don't actually attack him, that gives him more TP which is not good. Don't spam lower cures, wait for HP to get somewhat low and use high end cures. More HP for your MP. Basically, you're doing what a paladin would do. But if you're a taru, mind you don't use cures that heal for more HP than you have either. Don't try to enfeeble Maat and only Cure, Silence, or Paralyze if they are cast on you. If all goes smoothly, you likely won't need Benediction but it's good to keep in mind if Maat gets lucky shots in and you need healing NOW. Just keep taking hits and healing them and Maat will eventually give up.

Black Mage

Do this right, you'll win easy. For good measure, get your INT as high as possible with food and equips. Enter Area, cast your favourite ancient spell, quickly use elemental seal-sleep II on Maat before he can retaliate. Now get him with another ancient spell while he's asleep. Now, bind him so he can't smack you around for nuking him and fire off a regular elemental spell (best one you have). That should finish him off. If all goes well, Maat will never get a shot off at you. ^^

Red Mage

Very commonly considered the hardest of all the Maat fights and for good reason. Chainspell in the hands of an enemy is never a good thing and this time, you don't have the chainspell-stun solution to fall back on. I guess the best defense against a master of cheatery is another master of cheatery. ^^; What's a red mage to do? Luck plays a big role in this fight so say your prayers before doing this. First and foremost, get a wind staff. You'll need it. Get your INT as high as you possibly can, every last point counts. Enter, dash towards Maat, dispel and sleep him immediately. While he's asleep, cast your own buffs, and dispel any and all he has on himself. Nuke Maat with Aero III until you're out of MP, convert, heal youself back up with hi-potions. Now the big guns. Chainspell aero III as fast as you can, Maat will do the same. Chainspell should finish him off. If it doesn't, continue to nuke and hope it's enough. Good luck!

Paladin

Time to show Maat who's the real defender of truth and justice! Mwa ha ha!! (Yes, I'm a paladin. How'd you guess?) Like white mage, some changes in equipment is in order here. You'll want damage dealing equipment instead of tanking but keep the sword and shield, you'll need them. Bring along an Opo-opo necklace, sleep potions, hi-potions, vile elixer or two, yagudo drink and meat mithkabob. Now, when you enter the arena, do the usual routine. Sleep yourself to 100% TP, drink your drink, eat your eats, cast your buffs and move in. Use Sentinel as soon as you engage Maat and then use Rampart when that runs out. Like warrior and monk, use your best WS right off the bat, use the icarus wing and then immediatly hit Maat again with another WS to get some good early damage. But watch out! If he flashes you right away, hold off the WS until the blindness wears off. Now, duel Maat, healing yourself along the way and shield bashing him if he tries to cast Banish III. Maat will eventually use invincible, flash him and kite him when he does this. (don't disengage, that takes too long. Just push L3 to break targeting and run around the room) Just try to stall until Maat's Invincible runs out. If you get a chance to nuke him, do so but watch your MP. When his invincible runs out, now it's your turn! Activate your own invincible and fearlessly charge back in! Attack Maat mercilessly and take this chance to heal yourself up with items. (wouldn't it just rock if Maat used Asuran fists right now? Heh heh!) By the time invincible runs out, you should have another WS ready. Use it and hopefully it will finish him off. If it doesn't, hopefully you brought enough medicine to hold your ground until another WS is ready.

Dark Knight

This is a pretty straightforeward fight actually but it's very important to carry lots of hi-potions and macro them. You'll be using a lot. Like the other melees, use an Opo-opo necklace, sleep yourself to 100% TP, use ws, icarus wing, ws right away. Use def or atk food, your choice. Most of your spells won't be very effective against Maat so don't bother. Just focus on hacking Maat up good. (but always hope he wastes turns using stupid spells like Absorb-CHR) Drain might come in handy but I wouldn't bank on it. Use your hi-potions to keep up your HP as you fight and your attack up skills should be done at your own discretion. The biggest threat is Blood Weapon. When Maat activates it, push L3 to break target lock and run around the room to reduce the number of times he attacks you. You DON'T want him regaining lost HP. once his blood weapon runs out, activate your own take back some of the punishment he's dealt you. (if your HP are still in good shape, this wouldnt' be a bad time to use souleater too) Use WS when they're ready and you should be okay as long as you are ready for anything Maat throws at you. Just beware not to use Guillotine when soul eater is activated or you could very well end up digging your own grave.

Ranger

Another fairly straightforward fight. Only thing to take note of is that Maat will either use Eagle Eye Shot right away or in retaliation to a WS. Moral: if he hasn't used Eagle Eye Shot yet, be careful not to use a ws if you haven't got the HP to take it. Your best bet is to try and tempt him to use it right away while you're still at full HP. Use Shadowbind so he can't melee attack you (and thus possibly use Asuran Fists). Other than that, do the usual Opo-opo necklace sleep to 100% TP, icarus wings and stock up on hi-potions. Fill him up full of firepower and be done with it. A Tracker's Earring helps.

Beastmaster

Not too hard. Bring along a Panzer Ghalad for this fight along with the usual Opo-opo necklace, sleep potions, hi-potions and some def up food (I personally like fish chiefkabobs as a dedicated tank but it's up to you). Okay, sleep yourself to 100% TP, summon your pet and sic it on Maat while you fight Maat's pet but don't use your WS on Maat's pet, that's for Maat himself. once you kill Maat's pet, run out of range, heal yourself back up with hi-potions and let your pet fight Maat to the death. Now run in and hit Maat with rampage. That should send him packing. (as for your 2hr, I suspect using it will prompt Maat to use his as well which could give you trouble. If you don't need to use it, then don't. No need to risk it)

Bard

Max out your sword level for this as Spirits Within will be your best friend here. Bring along the usual melee stuff, Opo-necklace, sleep potions, hi potions along with def food and a stack of Selbina milk. When you enter the arena, watch Maat and see what he's buffing himself with. Eat your food, sleep yourself to 100% Tp and then use your icarus wing which should bring you up to 200% (yeah, little different set up this time). Now, drink your Selbina milk. This is your "finale blocker." If Maat finales you, it will remove the milk effect instead of your songs. Drink another milk if Maat finales you. Use soul voice along with your best songs. Now, use finale on Maat if he has any potentially threatening buffs on (that's why I said to watch what he does when you enter.) and debuff him. Now, hit him with Spirits Within for a strong early hit. Now it's just a matter of fighting him, using WS as they come up. Finale any buffs Maat puts up and drink milk if he finales you.

Samurai

Get ready to amaze even yourself with some fancy WSing. Bring along a few pear au lait, meat mithkabob and some hi-potions. Enter the burning circle and use meditate, making sure to wait for it to recharge before you enter to confront Maat. When you enter, use third eye and use your food and drink. Now, use the following skills: Tachi: Yukikaze > Meikyo Shisui > Tachi: Gekko (Fragmentation) > Meditate > Tachi: Yukikaze > Tachi: Gekko (Fragmentation) > Tachi: Gekko. After the smoke clears, simply continue to duel Maat, drinking potions to keep health up and drink another pear au lait when the first one runs out.

Ninja

Cast Utsusemi: Ni, sleep yourself to 100% and eat your food as normal. The biggest threat is Maat's 2hr for which you must keep your HP above 700 in preparation for. Enter the arena. Maat will have Utsusemi: Ni on so don't unleash your WS until you've killed his shadows. Hit Maat with Blade: Chi or ten then proceed to Paralyze, Slow and Blind Maat. At all times, keep your HP above 700 so Maat's 2hr doesn't kill you. Once that's past, it's straightforward from there on.

Dragoon

Bring along a fish chiefkabob, a stack of hi potions, sleep potions and some Selbina milk. Use the sleep potions and Opo-necklace to get your TP up like always. Summon your wyvern and use your food and drink. Now, engage Maat and hit him five times or so and he will summon his wyvern. By this time, you should have 100% TP. Penta thrust Maat's wyvern but don't change targets, this will prompt your wyvern to breath on Maat. Jump and high jump, hit Maat a few times then use super jump and then immediatly break target and turn away from Maat (so you're engaged still but not attacking Maat). Maat and your wyvern will be locked in battle and with some luck, your wyvern will finish him off for you. If it doesn't, turn around and take him out yourself. He should be near death by now.

Summoner

Short fight but it's all or nothing. When you enter, use Earthen Ward and Aerial Armor on yourself and get your MP back to full before confronting Maat and drink a Yagudo drink. Bring out whichever avatar is strongest on the current day (or Fenrir if you have him) and immediately use Astral Flow, refill your MP with ethers quickly and use Astral Flow again as soon as it's ready. That should take out Maat. If Maat uses Astral Flow himself, you will not survive. You simply have to be quicker at the draw, nothing more to it.

Then ( and i couldnt belive this from reading the posts above) he used 10 asuran fists on me! I 2 houred after first one then used elixir, then kited hopeing to get out of range. After 30 seconds invicible wore and on the 9th and 10th fists i died. wtf, am i doing something wrong?

1/1. Way too easy, I didn't get hit once. Not even by 2 hr. Go in, Ni, knock down his shadows, Kurayami/Jubaku/Hojo, melee him to death. Tank as you would an EXP mob. Jin ftmfw.

Wow I finally beat Maat. I went and i bought some potions and eithers and proceeded towards Maat. Traded him the testimoney and he took me to circle. I then went inside casted all my buffs when i realized that i had forgetten to take off my spike earrings and put on my normal exp pt earrings. so there i was sitting with -10 less to my eva X-D I kited this **** around the room. Left my light staff equipped for better cures. last time i took him on he did almost 4400 pts of dmg to me. This time he only did 2545 pts of dmg to me. While kiting i had my cure5 ready for when my HP dropped below 400. i was down to about 100 some od mp left when i used an ether potion and took me to dang near full MP. he then proceeded to make it to where i couldn't take any more meds :-( i was like SOB i am so gonne lose this one. he then got me down to less then 350 hp when i used cure5 one last time, and what to my surprise, that **** finally wore out!!!! I didn't even have to use my two hour, i was so glad. So out of my total three tries against him, i found out tha kiting this **** works the best. hope this helps you whm's out there.

1/7 on Red Mage Maat.. Finally beat him yesterday.. I failed many times due to him casting Blink before I got there(6/7 times he had blink up). And I didn't go in naked or cast anything before running to him. However the first time I went.. I did go in naked, and was trying to run and hit macros with my equipment on it. But the longer the delay you give Maat the longer it gives him to cast Blink. First thing I would try to do would be sleeping him. And if he had blink up i was screwed. I guess a suggestion for Red Mage Maat would be do something to absorb his shadows in case they are up first. Like try Gravity or Bind to see if shadows are up. But in my opinion they might not land anyhow. First and second time were the worst for me, since nothing would land. I even went in on Dark's day the first time to help my Sleep land. Then kept trying by going in on Wind's day to help Aero do more damage and help Gravity and Silence land. Well enough of the past.. I guess you guys wanna know how I defeated him in the end.. huh? lol

Well on seventh try.. /sigh.. I was pretty much about to give up on him. Went in on Water's day, since I was tired of waiting like 6 hours for every Wind's day to come by.. Went in with full armor. Also ate my food before going in, and got myself to full mp and hp. Also made sure everything on my macros was working properly and i had the right pallet on ^^. I went in, hit the button to run before the cs was even done so I could go out there asap. Went in and casted Sleep 1 just in case shadows were up.. since i knew that one might not have landed anyway. HE DID HAVE SHADOWS UP! -.- So I tried to Gravity him to help slow him down or take out his last shadow. Then it absorbed his shadow, so I quickly casted Sleep 2! And it landed ^^. Quickly ran to the other side of him as far as possible. Cured myself with Cure 3 once. Then Stoneskinned, and Phalanx, went and Dispeled until everything was off.. took about 4-5 Dispels, then Gravity (didnt land), then bound him (landed). As soon as Bind landed I casted Aero 3 with my Wind Staff, did like 400+ damage to him. Then Sleep 2'd him asap because he started to cast on me. Aero 3'd again as soon as it was up. Then Sleep 2'd him again. Aero 3'd one more time cause I was getting low on mp.(He was at about 60 % here) Then Sleep 2'd him, then used Convert, Cure 4, Cure 3, Chainspell, Stoneskin*, Phalanx*(*very important here), then started spamming Aero 3 at him, got about 3 out at him, then was down to 60ish mp :o, so quickly Sleep 2'd him and luckily it landed! (He had about 25% hp left at this point) So quickly used a Vile Elixir +1 (Had on macro for quick usage, only thing i used besides food). Then went for Aero 3, 2 more times.. HE WAS DEAD!! YAY!!! At first I didnt think he was dead cause I wasn't paying attention to his health, lol.

My stats were 59 +18 INT, and 61 +16 MND. So if you shoot for those stats at least*, you should do fine ^^. I didnt have anything to special on (gear wise). Had full AF except hands. Also, please note* Enfeebling Magic, AND Elemental Magic were both capped at that time. I also had 784 mp (with food, Marron Glace). Marron Glace is a Red Mage's best friend ^^. Please feel free to contact me on my character name Janni on Hades server if you have any questions. Goodluck fellow adventurers!

*Note* Only two things I had bought, other then the gear I had acquired by that time already, were Marron Glace which goes for about 10k on Hades server, and a Vile Elixir +1, which goes for about 150-200k on Hades. Only had to buy the elixir once, since I died to fast to even run out of mp on my other tries. Goodluck, just remeber "Don't Panic" lol, and just try your best. Chances are if he has blink up, you might die. But don't let that discourage you into thinking you should give up.. I hope this information helps all of you who are having trouble on Red Mage Maat, considering its found to be the hardest. Goodluck and I hope you win if your taking on this challenge!

Went in with 7 hi-potions +3 and 5 hi-ethers 4 yag drinks, earth staff, bat earrings, phalanx rings, and blinding potions, Taco for food, perkios au lait, and like always echo drops just in case.

Did buffs, ate food, used blinding potion, regen 3, drank my au lait, went insane and diaga'd Maat. Didnt seem to do anything to him but make him put up blink. I ran around the arena like a mad elvaan round and round only stoppin to cast occasional cure3 or 4 only needed 4 of the hi-potion +3 and 2 of the hi-ethers witch i probably didnt really need to use. I used 2 yag drinks. He only paralyzed me twice and did a total of 3,489 dmg.

He gave up after 7 mins 38 seconds witch seemed like a life time of running in circles to me >.< Its the running around in circles i swear it is ~.^ I also went in on lights day. If that helps any i dunno but i think Maat was really really easy on me and is now my bestest friend ^^

I'm 0/2 on maat as ninja half my problem is nervousness but on my 2nd battle maat casted Jubaku: Ni which paralyzed me and stuck for the whole fight. So IMO maat cant match your stat for stat due to him having a spell i dont. I also tried the reraiser mijin gakure trick but only hit him for like 79 damage but i was able to revive myself and not gain aggro and continue fighting him. I hope this helps my fellow ninjas and everyone else

Key Items: Echo Drops, Bat Earrings (2), Blinding Potion
Gear: AF gear other than these, nothing uber
Food: Tank food, au Lait (regen), Yagudo Drink (refresh)

1. Buff up and rest.
2. Take food, drink. Blinding Potion.
3. Start with DiaGA on Maat (get rid of Shadows/Blink)
4. Enfeeble Maat( paralyze, slow)
5. KITE, Kite, kite -- run up the long PATH. Cure 3
6. Run back down to the arena - Cure 2
7. Rinse and repeat 5 & 6.

When needed do: remove Silence-Echo Drops, remove Paralyze, Aquaveil, Benediction, another Blind potion, another Yag drink (Macros for all)

Did not hit Maat - not even once.

hey i was lookin over your G5 drk run and that startegy only work up to the tp build part this is the easyier and better strategy to the fight

equip opo-opo necklace , then use 4 sleeping potions , then use a blink band, after that pop some defense food, i used ambrosia to boost all stats but thats god food, use turtle soup for defense, after that run up to maat but do not enage him go behind him and pull out your scythe but do not face him, have a macro with souleater and last resort, use that macro and turn around quick and do Guilotine , make sure u have a mix of STR gear and Acc, after that pop your icarus wing and do yet another Guilotine , make sure your souleater last resort is still active, after your second guilotine pop up a Vile Exilir +1 , at this point maat will almost surely use blood weapon, DO NOT RUN FROM THIS it is ineffective and you have a higher chance of loosing, instead pop up some def gear if you have any and make a macro that looks like this

/ja "Blood Weapon" <name>.... /wait 1.... /ma "Stun" <t>

activate this macro with souleater on and your blood weapon will eat maat easily and the stun delays his hp drain. if your enfeebaling magic is high enough at the begining of the fight do sleep 2 and absorb some str, vit, agi, dex to make your guilotines even deadlier , you must use guilotines to keep maat silenced , his drains will hurt you.

This strategy is way better then the one you have posted , with this plan i beat maat in 4 mins and 30 sec and i broke the old drk record, thank you

In additions, FYI for DRKS. There is a video clip of a DRK killing MAAT on www.youtube.com. Just search for 'FFXI Maat'. On the 2nd page, there it is the movie. Hope this will help. The guy didn't even strip himself before entering the BCNM .. @_@"

1st Try: oh my God. Failed. Big mistake of mine. I shouldn't buy X-potions. They heal tooo slow. Need to stick with high potion +3. $3000 each on Alexander anyway, pretty cheap. Besides, it was discouraging when Matt's HP was totally full after he using 2hr+souleater. I just gave up there...

2nd try: This time I seem did better. I was able to run away from his Blood Weapon .. at least for a well. Then, he stun me. I was standing there and prayed...coz can;t even use high potion+3. Didn't use my 2hr. Dead. (U_U")

3rd try - 6th try : Failed. Spent tons of gil hiring people to get Drk Testimonry for me. Luckily, Warlord drop rates is great.

7th try - DAMMIT! It was so close! Didn't check Macro before battle. My fault. But I know next time I will get him. Steps as below:

1)REVIEW MACRO!!
2)Enter Naked
3)Equip weapon & armors which give buff
4)Buff: Sleep to TP300% (used whole stack of sleep potions)
5)Eat Food (YELLOW CURRY) + HP regen drink
6)Use Stonekin, Blink band
7)Equip normal armors back
8)Target Maat with ur back facing him.
9)Last Resort
10)MACRO:Souteater + Guilltone
11)MACRO: use Wing
12)MACRO: use another Gullitone
** Maat may already dead at this pt if you are strong enough **
13)MACRO: use 'Vil Elxir + 1' (**FFXI allows u carry only one of this in inventory**)
14)MACRO: use 2-hr 'Blood Weapon'
15)MACRO: use 'High potion + 3' to stay alive.

I will confirm this tomorrow. Goodnite! It was sooo close. I should have got Matt. If I didn't use wrong macro and wasted the first 5 sec. I should have 2-3 more stonekskine/ blind, which lead to losing much less HP when using 2nd Gulliton...

Making Macro is so much easy. Also, I suggest you to write down your Macro command keys on a memo. I just look at the memo and press macro one by one. LOL. Well, guess this is the Noob way beating Maat. WHO CARES!!
Whm Maat Fight Comedy of Errors
# May 13 2006 at 9:41 AM Rating: Good
Okay, I'm not one to normally share my embarrasing experiences, but this one is rather amusing, so have a good laugh at my total nOObness. For my whm Maat fight, I have read the posts, grilled all my high level whm friends with their stratageys, and I'm feeling about as prepared with information as I can be. I'm nevous and very cranky as my family decides that my wtm fight is going to be the entertainment of the evening...><. So, at level 68, I decide that I have no more excuses and must go down and take my beating like a good little wtm. I bought an Earth Staff and a stack of Hi-Potions, Ethers, 4 Yagudo Drinks, and 1 Persiskos au Liat. I also used an MP food instead of a defense food.
My strategy was get in there try the whm tank strategy and if that didnt seem to be working, then run like the chicken that I am. So after I talk to Maat and zone into the circle, I start my buffs.
Now, I did do the right thing and set all my spells and items on a macro pad... good to go there.. macros check.
I took off any gear that might give Maat a boost against me if he matched my stats.... good to go there... stats check.
So far so good...feeling confident.

And now let the comedy begin.

Starting my buffs: Protect IV, Shell IV, Stoneskin, Blink, MP food, Haste, oh, and Im gonna be smart and use this Yellow Drop for a +5 Boost to Vitalily.

At this time, my 10 year old son (Bixkat, 33 rdm) chimes in from behind me, "Oh Mom, you wont be able to use any medicines for 2 days now!" Doh!!
My heart sinks. I'm so dead. I cant use my Silent Drops..eek..my Ethers..ahhh..or my Hi-Pots..@#$%&..I'm so dead.

So now I'm so sickened at what I have just done that I forget to cast Regen III on myself and forget to cast Reraise. (Hello...I am a wtm right? Duh!)

What was that about being prepared?? ><

So now I have no choice but to face my inevitable death by the taunting old man. I run into the cirlce and cast silent on him, it doesnt stick.. no surprise there, but the race is now on.

I skip the tank strategy.. no potions=no tanking.. and move right to the true heart of this whm.. run!! (I still wish that I could sneak and invis against Maat, but with my luck he would have true sight.)

So all I can do now is run around the ring and cast cure on myself. I mostly cast cure III and cure IV. He silences me twice, one inch punch once, dragon kick once, and smacks the snot outa me the rest of the time.
I used 2 or 3 Yag drinks..(It was all kinda blurry with my total panic and all) And about half way through I remember to use my Persiskos au Lait.
I blew Benedition when he got me into the red.

But, at 9 minutes and 26 seconds Maat stops the fight and I survived. I had 200+ hps left and 50+ mp points left.

I was in shock, I survived, I celebrated with my family, and then went to change my pants...><

My advice to future whms:
Don't do what I did, I think I caught the old man on an off day or he couldn't hit me because he was laughin his butt off at me.

BST info for Taru

If you are weak Taru (BST) and gill challenged (no uber gear) and Maat is ripping you a new one in the fight, here is some advice:
1. Invest in pet F. Antica Broth (Chopsuey Chucky)
2. You concentrate on staying alive - mostly
3. Focus all your WS on killing Maats pet whenever it shows (especially after Maat 2hrs his pet).
4. Do the Reward and SIC on your pet when you get the chance

So essentially Chopsuey Chucky beats Maat alone, you just keep Maats pets off of Chucky. I never hit Maat with a WS (but was prepared with Icarus Wing if needed). I did take Maats pets a short distance away to fight so I didnt get hit with Maats AoE WS.

BTW ... First, I tried all the other BST tips mentioned here and got owned, never getting close to victory. Got naked, did sleep, blink, icarus wing, x-potions, everything. Either Maats pet would own me or one hit on Maat would be enough for my pet to loose hate and Maat would rip through me oe Maat would blow though my non-Chucky pets. Then I decided to bite the bullet and buy Chopsuey Chucky and go with the strategy above (got a victory the 1st time I used the new strategy and Chucky.)

I realise both these posts were from a few weeks ago but I wanted to correct anyway.
After beating Maat as one job, you can level that job to 75.
However, if you were to level another job to 75, you would have to beat Maat again as that job.
And so on for each job you want to get past 70.
Hope this helps.

I did it, third time's the charm! And it didn't cost me an arm and a leg, either! Here's how:

I was a Dark Knight, level 69, Mithra.

gear:
dkstl scythe
AF head/blink band
ryl. grd. collar/opo-opo
hauberk, AF body, carapace breastplate
carapace gauntlets
AF legs
AF boots
two sun rings
assault earring, spike earring +1
bomb core [I already had this, probably not necessary]
amemet mantle +1 [non-+1 is probably fine]
life belt [any drk should already have this]

My time was over 7 minutes because I wasn't aware how long blink band took to use.

Usable items:
5 hi-potions
5 sleeping potions
opo-opo
blink band
icarus wing
fish chiefkabob

I used the chiefkabob, then started sleeping. Slept to over 100% tp because after four I was only at 97% and didn't want to chance missing my first attack. Equipped normal neck, equipped blink band and had to wait. Used blink band, equipped AF head, and I was good to go.

And no, I didn't zone in naked. I don't know why everyone does that. I started with my hauberk to get a good first guillotine in.

I walked behind him facing away, started with an absorb-strength. Turned, smacked him, did a guillotine, then equipped AF body and cast bio II on him. We exchanged blows for a bit, I used a hi-potion. I started to cast abs-vit as he started using blood weapon, so I was behind in my running. I cast stun and started to kite, but another two hits later I realized that wasn't going to happen - I haven't been able to kite him in ANY fight I've done with him so I say don't bother. My tp was at 100% so I nailed him with another guillotine, then used souleater and blood weapon. We traded a couple more blows but he was starting to win because he had a second Maat's bash [why can't ours be like that?] and his silence was gone so he was casting spells. I had forgotten to use my carapace breastplate and I was in the red, so that would have been nice. I'd also forgotten about the icarus wing, so I used a hi-potion, cast a drain to even things out, used another hi-potion for a good measure, then popped the icarus wing and let fly with guillotine #3 to end the fight.

What I had PLANNED to do:

Start off with abs-str, guillotine, switch to AF, bio II.

Go toe to toe, using a couple hi-potions until he 2hrs.

stun and kite - if it failed [I had already planned on it failing] then use souleater and blood weapon and bash it out with him. Once at 100% tp make sure to turn souleater off and nail him with guillotine. Pop the wing and nail him with a third guillotine which should finish it. If you drop to the red use the carapace breastplate and use a drain to keep HP up.

I think what was weird was that my souleater hits did so little damage - maybe going in with carapace gauntlets was a bad idea, and he counted as having them? Not sure. It came pretty close, but in the end I had 320 HP and he was dead. Not bad for being a nervous wreck and trying 3 times!

PLD Maat: Is He Too Old?
# May 02 2006 at 10:08 AM Rating: Decent
I did a lot of research on how to beat maat as a PLD because I didnt want to have to go get more than one testimony. I waited until I hit 70 for Protect IV. Yesterday, I ended up getting testimony off of a Darksteel Quadav on 2nd battle (lvl 75 THF/NIN assisting).

So I went to AH and followed the FAQ from alla and from Akkor's earlier post and proceeded to buy Oopoo opo Necklace, Vile Elixir, Icarus Wing, Sleeping potions, Yagudo Drinks, Hi-potions and Hi-Ethers. I will admit I was pretty nervous, but felt that the 300K I spent on items would see me safely through the battle.

I entered the burning circle and immediately buffed up on protect IV, shell III, and ate defense food (taco). I then built TP to 100%using necklace and sleeping potions x4. Once I was ready I entered the circle.

I immediately casted flash on Maat and he returned the favor (it seemed like we casted flash at the same time every time during the battle). Casted Rampart first and when that wore casted Sentinel. Once my blindness wore off I WSed using Swift Blade whenever I wasn't blinded and had 100% TP. I had set up a separate set of macros set up for the battle and it made it easy to maneuver around. I also set up macros for Hi-Potions and Ethers. I would CureIV when needed and use a Hi-Potion probably after every 2 hits from Maat. I used Hi-Ether when MP was too low to cure.

The battle went very smooth. My HP only got below 50% one time. Maat like to use Maat Bash a lot and that stunned me for a bit but it was no biggie. He tried to cast Banish on me 3-4 times during the battle but only landed it twice. The other times I shield bashed and once I interrupted it with my WS. I expected to see Maat cast invincible at 50% but he did not. I was waiting for it to come, but it never did. I had him down to around 10-15% HP with my last Swift Blade and he stopped fighting. It took 8 min 55sec to beat him. He complimented on my fighting abilities and gave me a scroll of instant warp. I was a little confused by a couple of things: 1. I didn’t actually take his HP to 0 2. He didn’t 2-hour 3. He didn’t do asuran fists.

I returned and my level cap was raised to 75. I had only used 6-7 Hi-Potions and 3 Hi-Ethers. I did not use Vile Elixir or Icarus Wing. I was happy that I had completed the quest but was a little disappointed that he didn’t really put up a fight. Has anyone else had the fight end in this manner? Oh well at least I beat him even if he’s getting to old to put up a real fight.

Well I have done 2 trial runs on Maat. Both at lvl 66 I'm 69 now. As a DRK. For those of you who know that if this were actually an adjusted his stats to urs you would walked in souleater guillotine and walk out laughing. So lets Dispel that rumor right now. Both times I went in I didn't have Opo necklace (they were going for a rediculous 600k a piece on Fenrir at the time) So I zone in Naked and then put on all my AF. I didn't have a hauby.....if I could've afforded that I woulda bought an Opo Opo necklace too. So I run into the room. Engage him and pull with Abs STR. Why you ask...cuz he hits hard. So me and Maat are exchanging blows both hitting for 100-125 a piece. Soon as I get tp, Guillotine. Blood Weapon goes off for maat I hit stun and kite. Didn't get hit once. I kited him pretty far and ended up having time to pop my Super Potion (big mistake) got medicated. had never experienced that anamoly prior to Maat fight. So I'm like wtf...oh well here goes nothing. I'm at 300 hp, Maat is at about 25 percent. Last Resort + SOuleater.....and then Maat crits me into Oblivion. I'm about to try maat again with a stack of hi potions drops (I'm a 77 alchemist wiht my mule so yea...cheap) an opo opo necklace and see how it goes. Btw I also have a Hauberk now. I imagine...Maat will look like a little girl.

Ok...I was a little worried after hearing about a few of the death stories...

I waited until 70, got my Samurai testimony...

As the guide says, I went in, Meditate, waited 3 min for timer to go back down and ate a Mithkabob...

Went into the Maat room, tried to pull him with a ranged attack with a demon arrow because I was scared of the 200+ damage hits I've been reading about here...ranged attack missed, Maat comes towards me...

The rest of the story is shown right here: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~llyuniku/images/maat_death.jpg

Absolutely destroyed him. Got hit one time only by Spinning attack for only 155 damage. Used the Kazaridachi Great Katana, and was wearing Hachiman Jinpachi, Kote, and Sune-Ate, Haubergeon, Life Belt, 2 Spike Earrings, 2 Sun Rings, Merman's Gorget, AF Pants, and Amemet Mantle to try to balance STR+ and accuracy+ (STR +24 (29 with Kabob), Accuracy +25).

Didn't need au lait, didn't need potions, didn't need blink band, just needed to hit him.

I strongly advise melees to wait until 70. This way, you have the best gear available and the fight will probably go easier, plus you'll deal maximum damage. My Great Katana skill was at 248, not quite capped. This was also my first and only try.

Edit: I wanted to add a little bit to this post.

First I wanted to address the rumor about Maat having the same stats as you upon your entering.

I entered the battlefield fully equipped. Unfortunately, since I only got hit once, I cannot confirm if this had any effect on Maat's power. I'd imagine though that with me having Evasion -20 from the Haubergeon, and if he has my Accuracy +25 from my gear...I don't think he would have missed with every normal attack, and with his Tackle WS (Third Eye took his Combo). I'm thinking it's only superstition...but I can't really add any input beyond what I just said.

As far as using job abilities goes...I hate having 2 hours macroed because they are easy to hit on accident, but in the case of this fight, I did macro Meikyo Shisui, and it's probably quite necessary to do so in order to get off the first skillchain. So, macro everything you think you'll need. My screenshot and post might make Maat seem like a joke, and in my case, he was, but below my post are many stories that went the exact opposite way of mine.

Good luck to everyone!

I think the DRK guide fails to mention that Maat will hit for 150-250, that his drain does 500 damage, that Maat bash is not like weapon bash in that it DOESN'T suck and can do over 200 damage. Maat will use blood weapon WHILE you run through your second guillotine so he'll be ready to follow you when you try to run. I stunned him and he STILL caught me, I'm not sure how. I'm going to have to do something else crazy rather than what this guide says, because as far as I'm concerned it's completely ineffective.

Well my fight with Maat didn't go so well.

Entered burning circle, put on opo-opo, put myself to sleep.

Got to 100% tp, used a sole sushi, switched neck gear, ran up to Maat. Drew my weapon, tried an absorb-STR just to see if I could give myself an edge. It was resisted.

Maat counters with a drain for FIVE HUNDRED hp. This fight isn't going so well now. I hit him as soon as drain finishes with guillotine so he didn't get all his hp back. Used icarus wing, guillotined again. He only took about 1200 damage from both of those. He activated blood weapon while guillotine was going off, so he got a hit in. I'm sitting at like 200 hp now. Stunned him and started running. Even with the stun, he caught me [how?] and hit me for 150 followed immediately by Maat's bash - which unlike weapon bash does not suck, and did 160 damage.

It wasn't even a fight, it was a slaughter. The drain sucked, but honestly I doubt I would have lived anyway. After the second guillotine he was only down 1/3, and I wouldn't be able to go toe to toe against him for long enough to get a third guillotine when he hits me for 150-200 damage a hit.

In my last exp party cross reaper easily out-damaged my guillotine. Should I go for that instead? I don't know what else I can do!
I got my ass handed to me!

How do you have Japanese text enabled in your game without having a Japanese version? You have Japanese in your macros, yet all the game text is in English. How did you manage that?

You can install japanese characters onto your computer with your windows install disk, then what you can do is get a keyboard that has both english and japanese characters on it allowing you to be able to type in kanji and katakona.
this is really stressin

RDM Maat 1/1

I just beat Maat today, first try, and VERY easily.

I was fretting this fight for a LONG TIME, only to find out.. this is very easy if you do your research.

First things first, macro all your gear to work with your spells. Like your Sleep macros, equip your Dark Staff and Spider Torque/Enfeebling Torque.. and your nuke macro, equip Elemental Torque and Wind Staff (obviously you'll be doing Aero III). Also go in naked and set macros to equip everything (rumor?). Be sure to eat a Melon Pie+1 before you go in. Macro your items, don't go wasting time searching through your list. Use yagudo drinks instead of refresh, you need all your mp. Only use ethers/potions right after you sleep him, to be sure he doesn't wake up in the middle of you using it.

How my fight went (super easy, no sweat):

-Entered battlefield naked.
-Started running for Maat ASAP, hitting macros to equip all my gear on the way.
-Sleep 2 Maat ASAP, got resisted, he hit me for 120, tried Sleep, he hit me again and interrupted, so I waited for 3rd hit, and cast right when I got hit. Sleep 1 landed.
-Ran as far away as to where I can still cast on him. Stoneskin, Blink, Yagudo Drink, Dispelx2 (protect, shell), used a Hi-potion+3 to get some of my HP back.
-Bind, Aero III, Sleep II (Aero III doing about 383 dmg)
-Waited for a few for sleep /recast.
-Bind, Aero III, Sleep II, after this sleep I drank a couple Super Ethers.
-Bind, Aero III, Sleep II, did this till about 100 mp, then after sleep, I converted + Cure IV + a couple Hi-Potion+3.
-Bind, Aero III, Saw him Chainspell, Sleep II. Noticed that Stoneskin and Blink wore, so recasted them.
-Waited for Chainspell to wear. Bind, Aero III, Sleep II, and repeat as usual, till I got low on MP.
-Drank a Vile Elixir when MP got low.
-Bind, Aero III, Sleep II (resisted) but Maat was at like 30%, and was still bound, so I just cast Aero III again when it was ready, and boom, fight over.. I win.

I didn't have to chainspell, and I only used 3 hi-potion+3, 2 super ether, 1 vile elixir.

Lowest HP I had was 500.. near the beginning of the fight. He never hit me again, with anything.

My gear was:

Dark/Wind Staff depending on spell
Full RDM AF
Penitent's Rope
Red Cape+1
Pthm. Tathlum
Pthm. Earring
Genius Ring x2
Moldavite Earring
Spider/Elemental Torque depending on spell

Basically the luck part of this is sleep/bind landing, and if Maat casted Blink before you got up to him. If he did cast Blink.. you might as well start heading towards Qulun Dome for another test.. unless you're lucky and blink doesn't catch that initial sleep.

DEFINATELY go on DARKSDAY. If you go on darksday and have +20 or more INT gear/food on, you shouldn't have any trouble landing sleeps/binds. Forget windsday... you want a safe/skilled battle, not a fast/hope you kill him before he kills you battle. But that's just my opinion.. everyone has their own. ^^

Just have to remember, stay cool no matter what. If you start panicing because things aren't going as planned, you could get yourself in deeper trouble. Notice the first part of my fight didn't go as planned, but I didn't panic, just stayed cool, and the fight went perfectly after that.

The first time i went up against Maat i didn't add up all the dmg, but the second time i went up agains him i took a total of 4386 pts of dmg, and that is not counting all the small pts of dmg from dia2 that was casted on me. I saved all my MP for cures and regen3's this time and i still died. The first time i spent bookoo bucks on trying to beat him. What, if anyone knows, is the range of DMG points that a WHM has to take from this old fart. If it was me, i woulda been tired of wailin on me long b4 he did. X-D

My wife just fought Maat about 2 minutes ago and won as a lvl 67 WHM. So I figured I'd let ya'll know what she had and how she did it.

She had all the stuff like the bat earings, phalanx ring, ether ring, and earth staff. Bought an inventory full of hi-potions and a few ethers and some echo drops and about 3 yagudo drinks with one fish mithkabob and some blinding potions. She went in naked and followed the guide at the top of the page. She was wearing her AF gear except the healers mitts (she doesn't have them).

Now... One thing that the guide doesn't mention for WHM is something that Angelaa mentioned a couple posts down... Run Like Hell.

My wife fought Maat before and failed because she stood still, and he owned her. This time she ran around only stopping for an ocational Cure 4 and to spam cast items. She used ether, hi-potion, ether, hi-potion when she stopped. The battle lasted 8 minutes and 50 seconds.

Good luck to anyone else fighting Maat, and if you see Chloey on Sylph... Congratulate her.
