Summary

Maat has issued a final challenge to test your limits. Return with the items he has requested and the trial will begin.

Walkthrough

Talk to Maat at level 66 or higher to receive this final test. He will ask you to bring him a testimony of your job. These are Rare/Ex items that are dropped by various mobs depending on job.

Prior to a March 26, 2012 software update, a job Testimony was only good for one attempt and had to be manually dropped by the player after the attempt was over. After the software update, each testimony possessed will grant players three attempts at the corresponding battlefield: Shattering Stars / The Beast Within / Breaking the Bonds of Fate / Achieving True Power / A Furious Finale / Survival of the Wisest. The item will disappear upon trading it for the third time.

After you win the fight, make sure you go back and talk to Maat one last time for a cut scene, after which your level cap will be lifted to 75.

You'll likely need a party to beat these mobs efficiently as the drop rate, as for any required quest item, leaves much to be desired. (getting flashbacks of sub job or genkai 1 yet?)

Once you bring Maat the testimony, he will challenge you to a fight to prove once and for all you have ultimate mastery over your job.

Maat assumes your job and has all the abilities of it including your 2hr. Regardless of job however, he fights with his fists and can use asuran fists which could snuff out your hopes of winning in one fell swoop if you don't play your cards right, not to mention he hits pretty hard. Oh yes, your sub job is disabled for this fight so you can expect no help from that. You have 10 minutes to beat Maat and prove yourself to him. Watch out because the old man is WAY tougher than he looks!

Some general tips

-Maat does not attack until you do. Use this to your advantage by buffing yourself and resting to full before fighting.

-melees, buy an opo-opo necklace (TP regen when sleeping) and some sleeping potions. Put yourself to sleep with the necklace on to build up TP to 100% or so.

-Maat is not to be underestimated! Make sure you have any piece of equipment you think could help, use food, carry some medicine supply and have a battle strategy planned out. Do nothing but your very best!

-I'm not 100% sure on this but I'm told that Maat has the same stats as you do when you ENTER the fight. meaning, if you strip yourself (or maybe even equip stuff that lowers your important stats) and then equip your regular gear before fight him, it will give you a statistical advantage on him. Since Maat doesn't attack until you do, there's no real harm in trying this. Can anyone confirm?

Job strategies

Warrior

You'll need the opo-opo necklace, 4 sleep potions, a meat mithkabob and an icarus wing to do this. Be a good idea to macro your warrior abilities along with using the icarus wing as you must do this very smoothly. Enter the arena, eat your food, and put yourself to sleep until you have 100% TP. Once you're all ready, head over to meet and stand right in position. Now, turn on Aggressor, Berserk, Warcry and Mighty Strikes and pull out your weapon. Hit Maat once or twice and then use Raging Rush, immediatly use your icarus wing and then another Raging Rush. If all goes well, you'll do a fragmentation SC (who says only samurai can do one man SC's?). Maat won't know what hit him! If it doesn't quite kill Maat, start praying you finish him off fast as he will whip out his big guns right away which could quickly finish you.

Monk

When you enter the arena, eat a meat mithkabob and then do the usual sleep to 100% TP trick described above. Similar to warrior, engage Maat, use your best weapon skill, icarus wing and then use it again for mega damage. This will prompt Maat to use Hundred Fists, use yours as well. Pound away at Maat until you're at 100% TP again and then quickly use another WS which should take him down.

Thief

Thieves have another option if the player has not already beaten Maat while on another job. Instead of full out assault (described below), you can win by using your Job Ability to Steal a Scroll of Instant Warp from him.

>>> Steal Strategy <<<

  • A Scroll of Instant Warp is a Rare/Ex item, which you can only have one at a time. Be sure that you do not have one anywhere in your inventory when you face Maat (including your Mog House) otherwise you will not be able to Steal the item from Maat.

  • There is a 10 minute limit to this fight, and Steal has a five minute job ability timer, so the first Steal attempt needs to occur immediately upon entering the arena if there is any hope for there to be enough time for a second chance if Steal fails (which it often will).

  • If Steal is attempted without alternate preparation for a full melee fight, this is an all-or-nothing shot and the player should not expect to survive through the job ability timer. Plan on using some form of re-raiser (Scroll, Potion, Earring, or Hairpin), rest until the job ability timer expires and reattempt immediately before the event timer expires.

  • Maximize your stealing skill (Steal+) and equip quested Artifact (AF) gear (Rogue's Armlets -- +1, Rogue's Bonnet -- +1, Rogue's Culottes -- +1, Rogue's Poulaines -- +2) along with anything else you can find that improves stealing like Thief's Kote -- +3 (replaces Rogue's Armlets), Rabbit Charm -- +1, Rogue's Ring -- +3 (effect active when HP is 75% or lower) and Key Ring Belt -- +1 (all of these items are available at 70 or lower).

  • Only items that modify Steal will influence the chance of success or failure of the Job Ability ... the results are not affected by frequency of use (cannot be "skilled up") nor by any other modifier (STR, DEX, INT, and so on). While there are items above Level 70 that modify Steal, the player cannot wear them without having previously beaten Maat and broken the level limit. (A successful Steal will not end the fight if the player has previously beaten Maat on another job).

>>> Melee Fight <<<

  • Cap your skills for your level, particularly Dagger and Evasion and consider capping Parrying and Shield.
  • Use food -- Squid Sushi (HP +20, Accuracy +15%) and Persikos Au Lait (Regen 4 hp/tick and effect lasts 10 minutes = 800 HP)
  • Use equipment -- Opo-Opo Necklace, Blink Band, Spartan Hoplon (optional - casts Phalanx), Bomb Core / Fire Bomblet / Viking Shield (Attack+)
  • Stock up on medicines - Icarus Wing and Potions -- Vile Elixir (restores 25% HP), Vile Elixir +1 (restores 55% HP), Max-Potion, X-Potion, Hi Potion, Potion (consider using the NQ, +1, +2 or +3 versions). Carry as many potions as you feel you need and macro their use.
  • Equip as much Accuracy+ and Strength+ gear you can find. Macro in any gear that will increase Sneak Attack effectiveness.

>>> Battle Plan <<<

  • Equip your weapon(s) and the Opo-Opo Necklace, Sleep Potion x 4 (or Mary's Milk x 2) for 100% TP (do not change weapons or you will lose your TP).
  • Use Reraise, Blink, Phalanx, Squid Sushi and Persikos Au Lait.
  • Approach, use Sneak Attack, and then attack Maat from behind
  • After the first hit, immediately use Dancing Edge
  • Consume Icarus Wing (to regain 100% TP). This will give a Medicated Status Effect for two hours.
  • After gaining 100% TP, immediately use Dancing Edge. If this is done rapidly enough, it will cause a self skill chain resulting in additional damage from a Detonation effect.
  • Evaluate the situation ... If the player is in the yellow for HP, attempt Steal for best effect (Rogue's Ring is active under 75% HP) and then use a HP+ Potion.
  • After the second Dancing Edge, Maat should have used either Perfect Dodge or Asuran Fists. If Asuran Fists, use Perfect Dodge and then Flee until his Perfect Dodge wears off.
  • Re-engage Maat and build TP to 100% and use the third and final Dancing Edge.
  • At this point Maat should give up if he hasn't already.

  • An alternate strategy is to skill up Marksmanship and use Ranged Attack and land Sleep Bolts, particularly while Maat is under the effect of Perfect Dodge. This will give the player the chance to execute one or more additional Sneak Attack(s) while Maat is asleep. (Note: If you equip the Bomb Core or Fire Bomblet in the ammo slot for Attack+, be sure to macro in a safety to unequip the item before executing the Ranged Attack to avoid actually throwing the hard-to-get / expensive Attack+ item at Maat and losing it permanently.)

  • Be sure not to change weapons until after the second Dancing Edge otherwise you will waste the benefits of the Opo-Opo Necklace and the Icarus Wing.

White Mage

White mage? Solo a tough guy like Maat? Well, fortunately, White Mages don't have to actually beat Maat either. You must simply take a certain amount of damage from him and survive. (how much? It appears to be random from what I've seen, best hope you get the low end of the range). Some re-equipping will be in order here. Now you must equip yourself for defense. Some items of note are phalanx rings, earth staff (Ask your paladin friend if you can borrow his. ^^), and bat earrings. Drink a blind potion to give yourself +30 evasion from the bat earrings (you won't be actually attacking so being blinded makes no difference). Bring along a couple bottles of Yagudo drink, plenty of healing potions, some echo drops and a fish chiefkabob (heh, eating tank food. Never thought you'd see the day?) Now, when you enter, cast all your buffs. Protect, Shell, Stoneskin, Aquaveil and Blink and then rest back to full. (you need all your MP for healing so don't waste it recasting these if they wear off). Eat your food and blind yourself then use Yagudo drink and Regen III on yourself. Now cast Paralyze on Maat to get his attention (if it actually sticks, great! But don't fret if it doesn't) Maat should be hitting you for two digit damage so you should have no trouble keeping your HP up. Don't actually attack him, that gives him more TP which is not good. Don't spam lower cures, wait for HP to get somewhat low and use high end cures. More HP for your MP. Basically, you're doing what a paladin would do. But if you're a taru, mind you don't use cures that heal for more HP than you have either. Don't try to enfeeble Maat and only Cure, Silence, or Paralyze if they are cast on you. If all goes smoothly, you likely won't need Benediction but it's good to keep in mind if Maat gets lucky shots in and you need healing NOW. Just keep taking hits and healing them and Maat will eventually give up.

Black Mage

Do this right, you'll win easy. For good measure, get your INT as high as possible with food and equips. Enter Area, cast your favourite ancient spell, quickly use elemental seal-sleep II on Maat before he can retaliate. Now get him with another ancient spell while he's asleep. Now, bind him so he can't smack you around for nuking him and fire off a regular elemental spell (best one you have). That should finish him off. If all goes well, Maat will never get a shot off at you. ^^

Red Mage

Very commonly considered the hardest of all the Maat fights and for good reason. Chainspell in the hands of an enemy is never a good thing and this time, you don't have the chainspell-stun solution to fall back on. I guess the best defense against a master of cheatery is another master of cheatery. ^^; What's a red mage to do? Luck plays a big role in this fight so say your prayers before doing this. First and foremost, get a wind staff. You'll need it. Get your INT as high as you possibly can, every last point counts. Enter, dash towards Maat, dispel and sleep him immediately. While he's asleep, cast your own buffs, and dispel any and all he has on himself. Nuke Maat with Aero III until you're out of MP, convert, heal youself back up with hi-potions. Now the big guns. Chainspell aero III as fast as you can, Maat will do the same. Chainspell should finish him off. If it doesn't, continue to nuke and hope it's enough. Good luck!

Paladin

Time to show Maat who's the real defender of truth and justice! Mwa ha ha!! (Yes, I'm a paladin. How'd you guess?) Like white mage, some changes in equipment is in order here. You'll want damage dealing equipment instead of tanking but keep the sword and shield, you'll need them. Bring along an Opo-opo necklace, sleep potions, hi-potions, vile elixer or two, yagudo drink and meat mithkabob. Now, when you enter the arena, do the usual routine. Sleep yourself to 100% TP, drink your drink, eat your eats, cast your buffs and move in. Use Sentinel as soon as you engage Maat and then use Rampart when that runs out. Like warrior and monk, use your best WS right off the bat, use the icarus wing and then immediatly hit Maat again with another WS to get some good early damage. But watch out! If he flashes you right away, hold off the WS until the blindness wears off. Now, duel Maat, healing yourself along the way and shield bashing him if he tries to cast Banish III. Maat will eventually use invincible, flash him and kite him when he does this. (don't disengage, that takes too long. Just push L3 to break targeting and run around the room) Just try to stall until Maat's Invincible runs out. If you get a chance to nuke him, do so but watch your MP. When his invincible runs out, now it's your turn! Activate your own invincible and fearlessly charge back in! Attack Maat mercilessly and take this chance to heal yourself up with items. (wouldn't it just rock if Maat used Asuran fists right now? Heh heh!) By the time invincible runs out, you should have another WS ready. Use it and hopefully it will finish him off. If it doesn't, hopefully you brought enough medicine to hold your ground until another WS is ready.

Dark Knight

This is a pretty straightforeward fight actually but it's very important to carry lots of hi-potions and macro them. You'll be using a lot. Like the other melees, use an Opo-opo necklace, sleep yourself to 100% TP, use ws, icarus wing, ws right away. Use def or atk food, your choice. Most of your spells won't be very effective against Maat so don't bother. Just focus on hacking Maat up good. (but always hope he wastes turns using stupid spells like Absorb-CHR) Drain might come in handy but I wouldn't bank on it. Use your hi-potions to keep up your HP as you fight and your attack up skills should be done at your own discretion. The biggest threat is Blood Weapon. When Maat activates it, push L3 to break target lock and run around the room to reduce the number of times he attacks you. You DON'T want him regaining lost HP. once his blood weapon runs out, activate your own take back some of the punishment he's dealt you. (if your HP are still in good shape, this wouldnt' be a bad time to use souleater too) Use WS when they're ready and you should be okay as long as you are ready for anything Maat throws at you. Just beware not to use Guillotine when soul eater is activated or you could very well end up digging your own grave.

Ranger

Another fairly straightforward fight. Only thing to take note of is that Maat will either use Eagle Eye Shot right away or in retaliation to a WS. Moral: if he hasn't used Eagle Eye Shot yet, be careful not to use a ws if you haven't got the HP to take it. Your best bet is to try and tempt him to use it right away while you're still at full HP. Use Shadowbind so he can't melee attack you (and thus possibly use Asuran Fists). Other than that, do the usual Opo-opo necklace sleep to 100% TP, icarus wings and stock up on hi-potions. Fill him up full of firepower and be done with it. A Tracker's Earring helps.

Beastmaster

Not too hard. Bring along a Panzer Ghalad for this fight along with the usual Opo-opo necklace, sleep potions, hi-potions and some def up food (I personally like fish chiefkabobs as a dedicated tank but it's up to you). Okay, sleep yourself to 100% TP, summon your pet and sic it on Maat while you fight Maat's pet but don't use your WS on Maat's pet, that's for Maat himself. once you kill Maat's pet, run out of range, heal yourself back up with hi-potions and let your pet fight Maat to the death. Now run in and hit Maat with rampage. That should send him packing. (as for your 2hr, I suspect using it will prompt Maat to use his as well which could give you trouble. If you don't need to use it, then don't. No need to risk it)

Bard

Max out your sword level for this as Spirits Within will be your best friend here. Bring along the usual melee stuff, Opo-necklace, sleep potions, hi potions along with def food and a stack of Selbina milk. When you enter the arena, watch Maat and see what he's buffing himself with. Eat your food, sleep yourself to 100% Tp and then use your icarus wing which should bring you up to 200% (yeah, little different set up this time). Now, drink your Selbina milk. This is your "finale blocker." If Maat finales you, it will remove the milk effect instead of your songs. Drink another milk if Maat finales you. Use soul voice along with your best songs. Now, use finale on Maat if he has any potentially threatening buffs on (that's why I said to watch what he does when you enter.) and debuff him. Now, hit him with Spirits Within for a strong early hit. Now it's just a matter of fighting him, using WS as they come up. Finale any buffs Maat puts up and drink milk if he finales you.

Samurai

Get ready to amaze even yourself with some fancy WSing. Bring along a few pear au lait, meat mithkabob and some hi-potions. Enter the burning circle and use meditate, making sure to wait for it to recharge before you enter to confront Maat. When you enter, use third eye and use your food and drink. Now, use the following skills: Tachi: Yukikaze > Meikyo Shisui > Tachi: Gekko (Fragmentation) > Meditate > Tachi: Yukikaze > Tachi: Gekko (Fragmentation) > Tachi: Gekko. After the smoke clears, simply continue to duel Maat, drinking potions to keep health up and drink another pear au lait when the first one runs out.

Ninja

Cast Utsusemi: Ni, sleep yourself to 100% and eat your food as normal. The biggest threat is Maat's 2hr for which you must keep your HP above 700 in preparation for. Enter the arena. Maat will have Utsusemi: Ni on so don't unleash your WS until you've killed his shadows. Hit Maat with Blade: Chi or ten then proceed to Paralyze, Slow and Blind Maat. At all times, keep your HP above 700 so Maat's 2hr doesn't kill you. Once that's past, it's straightforward from there on.

Dragoon

Bring along a fish chiefkabob, a stack of hi potions, sleep potions and some Selbina milk. Use the sleep potions and Opo-necklace to get your TP up like always. Summon your wyvern and use your food and drink. Now, engage Maat and hit him five times or so and he will summon his wyvern. By this time, you should have 100% TP. Penta thrust Maat's wyvern but don't change targets, this will prompt your wyvern to breath on Maat. Jump and high jump, hit Maat a few times then use super jump and then immediatly break target and turn away from Maat (so you're engaged still but not attacking Maat). Maat and your wyvern will be locked in battle and with some luck, your wyvern will finish him off for you. If it doesn't, turn around and take him out yourself. He should be near death by now.

Summoner

Short fight but it's all or nothing. When you enter, use Earthen Ward and Aerial Armor on yourself and get your MP back to full before confronting Maat and drink a Yagudo drink. Bring out whichever avatar is strongest on the current day (or Fenrir if you have him) and immediately use Astral Flow, refill your MP with ethers quickly and use Astral Flow again as soon as it's ready. That should take out Maat. If Maat uses Astral Flow himself, you will not survive. You simply have to be quicker at the draw, nothing more to it.

Just beat maat on Asura with my 70 PLD, was actually quite suprising how easy it was...maybe i just had lady luck on my side:D For one after i used opo-opo necklace and sleep potions i forgot to re-equipt my main neck armour>.< and totally forgot to use my vile elixir I bought for the fight.

Maat decided to flash me at the very second i decided to use my vorpal blade. Luckily i got mine in first and hit for 400 DMG, compared to 180 which i hit before lol

Since Maat doesn't attack until you do, there's no real harm in trying this. Can anyone confirm?" and i believe it to be true,i went in naked the equip'd and it was sooo easy i cant think of any other reason :P

I beat his azz the other day as 67NIN/WAR. It was awesome. I went there with no potions and only a Icrus Wing for TP. I un-equiped everything I had on me. entered the battlefield. Ate my sole sushi. Cast my shadows. Put back on all my gear (which was all pretty much AF gear). Waited for my shadows to recast then went after Maat like a mad man. Wait for his shadows to get down. I then used the Icrus Wing, TP 100%, and Blade: Ten his azz. I then kept shadows up and Paralzyed, Blinded and Slowed him. All the spells hit. I waited till my TP was up again and I Blade: Ten him again. Soon afetr that he used the NIN and killed himself. I now hold the record time on Fairy! Nothing to it! Good Luck!

well for ninja it is VERY ez. Be patient to fight him at 70. I went in scared, forgot to unequip items for the stat boost and everything. Didnt have oppo neck so dont waste time buying it.

my strat:

I bought simple str food, and debuff tools. Cast utsu ni and wait for recast b4 fighting. When buffed and rdy go fight and melee atk until all 4 shadows are knocked off. Then start debuffing, his acc is terrible so if ur eva is somewhere near capped, u wont have any trouble. Fudo's at 70 give u a great str advantage.

Keep your shadows up and the only thing that'd hit is Mijin Gak, which will do 400-700 dam, it did 400 and something on me, then quit on me. Be warned, he hits VERY hard, at least 150+ a pop to me. I only got hit once though and that wus only one hand T_T . I didnt even need potions. All in All its cake.

Good Luck on maat my fello nins

I'm Elvan and only had str rings... nothing fancy at all.. just entered through Ni up and used sushi. Killed him in record time... yehawww!!! Yes, I hold the record on Hades!
1/4 as WAR
# Aug 24 2007 at 3:30 AM Rating: Decent
Finally succeeded on the fourth attempt and thought that mentioning some of my mistakes would help others avoid repeating them.

My first three (unsuccessful) attepts were with Axe (Rune Axe with Strike Shield). For the fourth, successful attempt I first went out and did a couple of skillup parties to get Great Axe to 215 so I could use Wardancer instead. Thank you to those who helped, you know who you are.

I followed the strategy outlined above every time. Some VERY IMPORTANT things that I learned:

There is not enough time allowed to be able so sleep to 300%. Attempt one consisted of sleep to 300%, run up to Maat, get told I'd exceeded the time allowed and get booted out of the battlefield before I'd got as far as attacking. This was more embarassing than getting killed. *^-^*

The time asleep from a Sleep Potion is variable. 4 potions may be enough to get you to 100% TP, but another time even 5 potions might only take you to 80%, so take more than 4 along!

If you make macros specially then make sure you get familiar with them before using them for the fight, particularly if you are very used to your usual set of macros (and your fingers start moving to select your weapon skill without you actually thinking about it, for example). In attempt two I managed to use the macro for the Icarus Wing instead of for Rampage, thus meaning only one WS, wasted sleep potions, wasted wing, and another failure.

Smooth and efficient use of positioning and moving into range, job abilities and weapon skills makes a significant difference. Rampage with Mighty Strikes running did 50% more damage on attempt 3 than the second Rampage which went in after Mighty Strikes wore off.

X-Potions are NOT WORTH IT. If Maat is damaging you, he'll probably be doing twice as much damage to you in the time it needs to take the potion than you will gain from the potion. Find something better.

Aggressor and Berserk will run for way longer than you'll need for the actual combat, so you can use those before engaging. If you judge distances right you can use Warcry then Mighty Strikes as you run in after selecting attack while out of range, so that MS is completed the moment before your first hit lands, maximising their effective duration. I suspect it was getting this /almost/ right that was the main reason for my successful fourth attempt (okay, so MS went off a fraction after the first hit landed, but it was close).

In the fourth, successful attempt I didn't use regen drinks, and didn't need potions. Maat only hit me twice in the whole fight, and never got a chance to 2hr; the combat itself was so fast that Mighty Strikes wore off after I'd exited the battlefield. Although the battlefield clear time was 4 mins 21 secs, most of that was sleeping and buffing (food and blink band) before attacking. Whether I'd have acheived the same result with Axe instead of Great Axe, just because I'd ironed out the earlier mistakes and knew what to do, I can't say, but I suppose it's possible. Fragmentation only did an extra 75 points of damage.

Gear wise, it's not been confirmed that Maat has the same stats as you do on entering, but just in case I farmed the Maldust Ring and wore that to enter, having taken off any bits of kit that gave stat boosts. It was only one extra item to carry and there's plenty of time to re-equip while sleeping. I had mostly Thick gear, Hauberk (borrowed from an LS member, thank you), Blink Band (another loan from another LS member, thank you again), Bomb Core, Attack+ and Strength+ rings and earrings. I used Sole Sushi. For the successful run I had also set out each action macro in sequence, duplicating the weapon skill, to minimise the chance of errors.
BLM....still 0/2
# Aug 02 2007 at 1:20 AM Rating: Decent
Just wondering, does Maat have any type of effects that null damage when you fight as BLM?

I had him down to only needing one last good nuke, I threw out Water IV and it did 0...I was so shocked when I saw "Maat takes 0" that I couldnt react and he killed me.

He annihilated me the first time! >< The First time I tried this strategy mentioned but I think I really messed it up executing it, so the second time around I tried something else. I used an HQ Antlion, Chopsuey Chuck (F. Antica Broth) and sole sushi instead. For TP, I did the same strategy, Opopo Necklace and sleeping potions at the beginning of battle as well as Blink band and Stoneskin Torque. When I went in to fight, I had my pet attack Maat all the way, keeping hate and I went after Maat's first jug pet. After I defeated his first jug pet, I focused my attention on Maat. When he called out his second jug pet, I still kept fighting Maat while my pet took hate from both Maat and the pet. Got Maat down to 40% and I Rampaged him, spamming a lot of Hi-Potions +2 and Hi-Potions +3.

If anyone could help me out here i'd greatly appreciate it. Maat is a cheating *******. I follow the strategy above and get my clock cleaned. I do well with my shadows until Maat has about half his hp remaining then he gives me the business, nothing spectacular he just pummels me despite bing blinded slowed and paralyzed.
I've even used a stoneskin torque for extra protection a few times. Maat never uses his 2hr on me, he never needs to he just beats the crap out of me. I used medicine to heal myself for over 2k hp and the ******* still beat me without using his 2hr and only using 2 weapon skills, neither of which asuran fist. If anyone can assist please do.
Ripped off.

Has anyone beaten him on the first or second try as DRK? I had him to one swing away from victory, while I was at near-full health thanks to a Vile Elixir +1. Just as I'm about to finish him off with a WS, he lands Water II, two normal hits, and a Combo, all at the same damn time. 1035 damage. I saw my HP bar vanish as I pressed the macro. It just seems kind of cheap to me.

1/1 for me did it in 4minutes 41 seconds.
he didn't asuran fists, invincible, or anything... i got lucky.
all you need is wing(for tp) some hi pots (definetely) ethers, blink bad, opo opo necklace, MAYBE some dd armor (i used hauby and amemet mantle)

I think maat has the same stats (armor wise) that you have when you enter, so go in naked.
then equip all your armor, sleep to abuot 100% tp or so, use blink band, protect and shell, etc. run up ws, use wing, ws, flash, fight for a lil while.
shield bash every chance you see him casting banish II. Alternate sentinel and rampart. Pray he doesn't use asuran fists. This should work. worked fine for me on Ramuh server.
rdm fight
# May 22 2007 at 11:56 PM Rating: Decent
Finaly after 8 attempts, i was able to kill that old *******. They say rdm Maat fight is tough, well it is. 50% of the victory is based on luck, thats why its soo goddam difficult to beat him. 20% on preparation and 30 % on skills. We rdm have soo many spells, and for Maat to have them all makes him a dangerous opponent. The only way that a rdm can beat maat is becuz Maat is a idiot when it comes to casting spells, thats when the luck kicks in, cuz if maat had been slitghly inteligent with his spells, no rdm ever could have defeated him. In my last attempt, he cast slow and Blind on me, when he could have made my life more difficult, like in the past, by casting paralyze, silence, bind etc.. on me and Shell IV and BLink on himself. Plus lets not forget asuran fist that he can do anytime and often 2, 3 even 4 times in a row, interupting whatver we'r casting and killing us in the process. No really, that man's a beast, but he's only so bcuz of the fact that rdm are soo awsome and versatile :)

How I did it:
Equipement: All my AF or course ( I Switch my armor to use the Blue Cotehardie hen Nuking, then switch bak to tabard when enfeebling)
Pilomath neclace (i'm not rich enought to afford torques)
red cape
Royal knight's belt
Moldavite earring ( nice bonus damage to aero III)
Phamtom earring
Hale ring and electrum ring
Wind Staff, Dark Staff and Ice staff ( You absolutly need them )

I had 1 line of macro made for the things I would use the most.
SleepI, SleepII, Bind, Aero III, Blink, Stonskin, Dispel, Convert and Chainspell

I ate a Melon pie +1 before entering the BC and took with me a few Hi-Ether, yag drinks and Hi-potions and last, I went in on Windsday (Aero III). I know its a pain in the *** cuz its 1 hour every 8 hour but it helps. Some will prefer to go on Darksday to maximise their Sleep spells, but its up to you.

I Wwnt in, ran to Maat and sleep 1 him. I than buff myself, than I sleep II on Maat, than dispeled everything he had. Than, i proceed to Bind him and I used Chainspell. Yhea thats right, I used it at the begining of the fight. Now depending on you MP, you'l be able to cast 3 or 4 Aero III before u need to sleep him and convert. Bfore that time, Maat will throw some spells at you or buff himself, or if ur really unlucky, he'l come and asuran fist you. During my fight, the fu&^%$ also used chainspell just in the middle of mine :( So i had to sleep him, but i had the time to throw him 4 Aero III (387 damage each of them) before doing so. before I slept him, he threw a couple of spells at me, But guess what, thats y stoneskin and Blink were up, and I was lucky that nothing went threw them. So Now I Converted and healed with 2 Cure IV and reaply Blink and Stonskin.

After that, I did the usual technique of Bind, Aero III than Sleep I (Sleep 1 is a little bit faster than Sleep II) twice (387 and 427 damage) and than Maat stoped the fight at about 33% of his HP remaining.

So like I said before Luck= 50%, Skills = 30% and preparation = 20%. cuz If u aint got some luck on your side, you WILL never win, even if your the best rdm ever. Cuz with all of our ******* of spells and his (cheating) mnk abilities, Maat would be invincible if weren't 4 the fact that he can be dumb as hell sometimes.

I didn't even used 1 HI-potion orHI-ether, and only used 2 yag drinks. He didnt lay a finger on me that time. So yhea, I was lucky and I pray the lord cuz I was starting the become poor from buying potions and all.

I just beat this yesterday, w/ a time of 5 mins 27 secs (not the fastest time I know, but I still beat it). I had gone 8 previous times, and lost all 8 times, so I was excited out of my head... Here's my strategy & gear:

Gear: {Weapon} Darksteel Scythe
{Head} Chaos Burgeonet
{Hands} Tarasque Mitts +1
{Neck} Spike Necklace
{Body} Hauberk
{Legs} Thick Breeches
{Feet} Thick Sollerets
{Back} Amemet Mantle +1
{Waist} Life Belt
{Ranged} Bomb Core
{Ear 1} Fowling Earring
{Ear 2} Merman's Earring
{Ring 1} Sniper's Ring
{Ring 2} Woodsman's Ring

Strategy: Went in, did my sleep pot thing, blink band, etc. For food, I used a Hedgehog Pie... IF YOU CAN AFFORD HEDGEHOG PIE, BUY IT! (It is a sweet piece of food that will DRAMATICALLY increase Guillotine damage). After that, got to tunnel entrance [Absorb-STR ---> Maat] /wait 1 [Absorb-VIT ---> Maat]. After which, I popped Souleater + Last Resort. [Guillotine ---> Maat.] -Maat takes 1437 points of damage.- I used Icarus Wing [Guillotine ---> Maat.] -Maat takes 738 points of damage.- At this point, it was either me or him. I was at 206 HP, and all it would have taken was one hit, and I'd have been dead. After the last Guillotine, I pressed Stun macro as fast as I could, then started spamming Drain II. The Drain II did it! I FINALLY BEAT HIM, AFTER 8 TIMES!

Basically, I Guillotine'ed twice and then Drain II once and that was it. He also caught me one hit with his Blood Weapon up, hence part of the reason I stunned him, but it didn't do him much good. Stun bought me the one second I needed to pull this fight off, didn't think I'd make it but I did. :-)

Before I go... Kudos to Daywalker. He helped me get all 9 DRK Testy's. No way I would have been able to have completed the fight without his help. His l337 NIN skills pwned the Orcish Warlord, every time. You're the man Day, and anytime you need my help, you know I'm there.

This may be a lil delayed since i faught Maat a while baq, but theres another way to fight him, less challenging too. to save gil all you really need is a Pro-Ether and a Super- Elixar i didnt have the gil for the Elixar but im a TaruTaru. You Dont want to wear your af into battle, so STRIP TIME:D Strip before battle when you enter, put your armor baq on and Dont buff, run to maat and Bind and Sleep him, Now Buff with Stoneskin Blink Refresh Pro IV Shell IV and Phalanx (Haste for Faster time to cast Aero III) Macro your Aero III Sleep and Bind. Get Earth Staff to Boost Stoneskin, Wind Staff to boost Blink, Dont worry about Light staff or the others, you want Dark Earth and Wind staffs. Best time to fight him is on Darks day. after your done buffing, Aero III, Sleep, continue until you have to bind or Sleep him. ALWAYS KEEP HIM BOUND AND SLEPT. DO NOT Chainspell before him, WORST choice. When your out of MP convert and Heal up. Nuke him again, When you reach about 200 MP or less, Use the Pro-ether. Chainspell coz, by then he has already used Chainspell, but you have slept him on it. Chainspell and Aero III him continually, dont stop, continue, by then, he should be dead:D. THANKFULLY you dont loose Xp, Right? lol And Yes Rdm Maat fight is hard, but i had a overload of MP >_>;. Heres the armor I had at that fight....
Crimson Blade (Lvl 49 Sword)
Strike Shield (Lvl 40 Shield)
Rapid Bow (Lvl 58 Bow)
Demon Arrows (Lvl 60 Arrows)
Warlock's Chapeau (Lvl 60 Af Hat)
Merrow No.17's Locket (Lvl 65 Neck --Quested Only--)
Enhancing Earring (Lvl 40 Earring)
Death Earring (Lvl 67 Earring)
Warlock's Tabard (Lvl 58 Body)
Warlock's Gloves (Lvl 54 Hands)
Electrum Ring x 2 (Lvl 40 Rings)
Lamia Mantle (Lvl 65 Cape)
Powerful Rope (Lvl 44 Waist)
Warlock's Tights (Lvl 56 Leggings)
Warlock's Boots (Lvl 52 Feet)(You can also Wear Ogre Ledelsens if your 70)
You can Also Use 2 Death Earrings. Many Dont have Powerful Rope, so you can look for the other Waist Gear that gives MP(/and HP) or look up Int Gear, as a TaruTaru I had High Int. But my Magic wasnt Capped o_O BUT! I dealt about 600-700 dmg with each Aero III also for Food you can look up Sweet Rice Cakes, They are really useful in pts too, for future refurence to all Mages.
-Sweet Rice Cake-
MP +17
Vitality + 2
Intelligence +3
Mind +1
HPP +2
MPP +2
Evasion +5
:D and Resistance to Silence

I hope this helps a bit. As a Rdm, to You other Rdms, I Salute you. Farewell for now, And Goodluck.

Hello all just faught maat for first time as 70pld. fight was a lil tough, cause i kinda messed up at start. first i had all my chat filters on so not sure what damage i was doin or how much the old man was doing too me >< sorry. first i started fight by opo necklace sleep to 100tp. then i buffed up went in started fight he flashed me so i waited, then i hit my ws but hit wrong macro and used swift blade instead of vorpal. so i used my icarius wing 131tp used vorpal this time but to my shock the old fart Flashed me so vorpal missed ><. at this time i was gettin worried but didnt panic. kept my cool kept hitting him and curing my self when needed. he then 2hrs Invincible so i take off running round the arena, and may i say "this old guy can run". during the kite he might have ht me a few times, but soon his invincible wore and i went back on the attack i hit invicible and started popin hp-pots and hi-eithers and attacking like a pld on a mission. i get 100tp up maat flashes again so i wait my 2hr wore and maat freakin uses asuran fist i went from 900sumtin hp down to 100hp luckly i got a cure4 off. back up to 400hp i hit final vorpal blade and the old guy just couldnt handle it so im 1/1 on maat. <goodluck to u all on maat fights the old fart is a tricky one.

Beat this tonight on my first try in 4 min and 4 secs.

Equipment: Myochin Kabuto (Didn't want ANY equip switching mid battle), Kazaridachi, Hauby, Enky Bracelets, Amemet +1, Myochin haidate, Creek M feet, 2x Sun rings, 2x Coral rings, Chivalrous chain, and a Lightning bow.

Items brought; Blink band, 1x Meat mithkabob, 3x Hi-pots +3, 1x Icarus wing, 2x Pear Au lait
Items used; Blink band, 1x Meat Mithkabob, 1x Pear au lait.

Used med, let it recharge, used Blink band while waiting. When Med recharged, used my au lait, used my Mithka, and charged in.

Here's how it went;
Hit for 105
Yuki for 486, then Meikyo'd
Absorbed one of Maat's WS's via Blink band
Gekko for 689, to a 206 Frag SC, then Meditated
Got hit for 125, to a 262 spinning attack
Got Tackled for 234 to a 137 Fusion SC
Was stunned for some time, after which I Gekko'd for 405, then kept smashing my macro til another Gekko went off for 523, dead.

HP left after the fight; 35 out of 900+.

0/1 SAMAURI. LVL 69 Mithra.

I thought I did exactly what was said on here. One tiny detail was left out. The door leading to the fight arena acts like a zone and reduces your TP to 0. It's a small detail I did not pick up on and I lost because of it.

I went through the Shimmering Circle and the very first thing I did was use Meditate (my fatal mistake). While waiting for it to recharge, I equipped all my gear, used a sushi, and used my Blink Band. When Meditate was ready to use again, I went through the door, used a pear au lait and began my attack. Apparently, walking through the door reset my TP to 0 and I didn't figure that out until I tried to use a weapon skill and I got the "not enough TP" error. Strategy shot, I just began mashing buttons. Hit my Meditate macro instead of my 2-hour, but no matter, I was dead before I hit 100% TP. If not for the Blink Band, I would have been dead much sooner. Makes me feel like crap knowing that the server record time for this fight is 42 seconds >.<

Losing the fight isn't that big a deal...lessons learned that I'll use next time. The part that sux is that the testimony is shot and I need another. I hate that I wasted 8 hours of my LS's time getting that stupid f**king testimony. Now I need another and I REALLY hate having to ask for help...again.

Just another WAR who owned Maat recently without using GAX. Did it as 68 war 34 nin with a nadziak, hauby, thick mufflers, celata, bomb core, chivalrous chain, amemets (not +1), etc. Just slept to 100tp, used blink band (blink) and spartan hoplon (phalanx), ate a chief kabob, popped aggressor, berzerk, mighty strikes, and warcry, Rampage for 1000+, crit, icarus, Rampage again for 1000+, crit, crit, done. Maat only hit me three times. Had potions, but sold them back after. Piece of cake. Too bad it's not this easy for my blm friend ><.

Ok...lol just did this fight using lev 70 Sam gear and didn't buy anything special....
10x hi potions never used 1...
Icarus wing, unused
2x pear au lait, used 1
hyper potion, unused
blink band, unused
meat chiefkabob, used
.... As soon as i entered the burning circle, I meditated. Waited until it reset. Ate the chiefkabob and used one of the pear au laits. Went into attack mode and used Seigan and Third Eye, approched Maat. Used Tachi:Yukikazi, then 2 hour -> Tachi:Gekko. Tried to use Meditate but Maat had stunned me. Tachi:Yukikazi + Tachi:Gekko -> Fragmentation. Maat gave up... 103 HP left... Total time was 4 minutes 6 seconds... so if you discount the time waiting for meditate the fight was 1 minute and 6 seconds long (it would have beat the Siren record for SAM)
DRG vs Maat
# Mar 07 2007 at 7:04 AM Rating: Decent
Took out Maat as Dragoon on the first try and set the record on Sylph at 1:36. I went in with 6 Hi Potions, an Icarus Wing, a Coeurl Sub and my regular melee setup. No blinking or sleeping strategies were used. I just ate the sub, ran in, started to attack, Jumped, High Jumped and stayed on Maat while he brought out his wyvern. Maat was hitting me for 100+ and the wyvern for 60+ so my HP was going down quickly. I used Spirit Surge after realizing that the potions (used two) aren't really doing enough healing. At that point I finally got to 100+ tp and I dropped Penta Thrust for 700+, ending the battle.
