Battle Notes

Trade 40 Beastmen Seals to Shami and get a Star Orb. Trade the orb to the Burning Circle in Horlais Peak located in the Yughott Grotto.

This fight is capped at level 40, and only three people may enter the Burning Circle. Upon entering, you will find three mobs from the Hecteyes family: One large Sobbing Eyes and two smaller Compound Eyes.

  • The Sobbing Eyes will cast Firaga I, Bindga and Breakga and is capable of healing itself using the ability Catharsis.

  • All have Hecteyes special attacks, and will spam "Hex Eyes" if the characters are not already paralyzed.

Strategies

A typical strategy for this fight is to go in with a party consisting of two NIN/BLM or NIN/RDM's and a RDM/BLM. Eat food, buff, heal, then each NIN will take their own Compound Eyes while the RDM kites the Sobbing Eyes with Elemental Seal Gravity to start, then Bind and Gravity. Each NIN will spam Tier-2 Elemental Wheel Ninjutsu on their Compound Eyes, making sure to keep their back to the mob to avoid the paralysis effect of the Hex Eyes ability. Once their individual mobs are dead, the NIN's will rush to where the RDM has kited the Sobbing Eyes and spam Tier-2 Elemental Wheel spells again until the fight is over, while again keeping their backs turned towards the mob.

Note: Reports indicate that it is possible for Scroll:Utsusemi: Ni to drop twice from the same treasure chest at the end of the fight.

Me and 2 friends did this last night. Under Observations was new to us, but we had a strategy going in. We're 4 out of 6 on this so far. No PCC or anything that's worth while.

All in all this was fun and I'm looking forward to doing more when ever we get the chance.

As to the strategy... Really simple, brd kites the to lower eyes and blu and nin pounded on the bigger one. Once the big is down, blu and nin moves to the other smaller one until each one is dead. Simple!!! As to the details of how to beat this BCNM... every other post below has it. We just learn from our mistakes as we go along. Good Luck!!!

This was my first bcnm and for all those who are hesitant there is really nothing to worry about. Certainly a dynamic fight, it's really fast and they hit hard; don't expect a long battle. Here's how it went:

We went into the battle as 3 BLM's, with the best lvl 40 armor and spells (I don't recommend raping the AH with all your money and feeling the need to purchase every spell you see for the cap, STONEGA II, THUNDAGA, and WATERGA was all that I used.)

When you first enter the burning circle your heart will be racing quite fast because of the fast paced music and your nervous system telling you to perform well. Buff up! Protectra, shellra, ice spikes, rolanberry pie, elemental seal, etc. run by the mobs and don't face them for AOE petrify.

From here we used a countdown 3...2....1.... and everyone casted STONEGA II at the same time, then THUNDAGA, then WATERGA. By this time the two lesser mobs should be dead, so just use tier 2 spells on the main mob.

0/6 on the PCC, but with my one orb I managed to get UTSESMI: NI worth 400K!!!!

GILS!

/WAR isnt really needed, i bet u could this this BC without a sub if u wanted, but u can do /BLM too if u have /BLM20, just make sure to pull hate with ur :Ni before ur RDM (or whoever kites) gets to much hate.

Should be ok just make sure if you use PUP have the auto with asmuch HP as possible with items to cure it. 2xBLU should have no problem decimating 1 eye at a time.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried doing this as NIN/BLU? Blue magic can be cast while facing away from the mob, and is also spam-friendly. The only doubts I have about /BLU being viable is how high your blue magic skill would be when subbed @ 40. If it is high enough for spells like Headbutt and Bludgeon to take effect reliably, then I'd think BLU would be a pretty strong sub for this BCNM. Just pop a yag drink and spam Blue spells while waiting for Ni wheel to come back up. There's also the slight INT boost (although not as much as /BLM), and the just-in-case-things-get-ugly self curing (although not nearly as effective as /WHM). Any thoughts/experiences?

Well, I ended up trying "Under Observation" as bard, b/c I was needing Utsu: Ni myself, and figured why not. The thread here has a bard attesting to successfully sleeping the 2 compound eyes while the 1 sobbing eye is killed first, so that was going to be my plan. Went brd/nin with a nin/whm and nin/rdm. I figured I'd elegy the sobbing the pull the compounds towards me and have the nins immediately grab the sobbing. Didn't work out so well. Sobbing immediately started off with breakga, petrifying us all. My horde had gone off, but once they were awake, and us petri, it was only a matter of time. I died, nins were able to take the sobbing, I rr'd and slept the compounds again, but ended up eating a firaga or something, so we wiped.

I was willing to try again w/o pulling the sobbing first, but the nin/whm, experienced as he was with the fight, was determined that kiting the sobbing was the only way. So I wound up being the kiter, lol. I began by putting ballad and Learned Etude on the nins for their soling of the compounds (I wound up doing mambo on our fifth run b/c they weren't using magic much till the sobbing), then double paeoning myself. I elegy'd the sobbing, then ran down the hill, hugging the outer edge of the arch to maximize kiting distance. Quite a few times I got hit by bindga right off the bat (once I didn't even have shadows up, oops), but between the paeon regen and putting shadowns back up, I survived until bind wore and recommenced kiting. At about 2/3 of the way down I paused to recast shadows, at the bottom I recast one paeon, waited for the sobbing to catch up, then run past hit and back up the hill. The very first time I turned around at the bottom too quick, and one nin messed up at his start so had a slow time killing his compound, so I did about 2 passes up and down the hill, but all the times afterwards by the time I had kited down the hill and was nearing the top, the nins had finished their fighting and took the sobbing. I peaoned or balladed them and gave them a new etude, and they worked on the sobbing without any hitches.

I guess it wouldn't take much to kite the sobbing, just some form or damage reduction and/or healing. But Brd worked well enough--perhaps not quite as well as rdm, but oh well. Then again, I was able to give the nins a nice +10 INT. Drops sucked though, no PCC (naturally) and no Ni. 80 seals for about 18k lol. Probably will stick to the more reliable bcnms in the future now that I've had my fun here.

Did this BCNM for the first time ever last night, and won 3/4 with BLM/WHM x 3. Utsusemi: Ni dropped in battles #3 and 4, with a few various odds & ends for the remainder.

First fight: We were totally unprepared. Two of us (myself included) had never done a BCNM before, and I know I was a bit nervous playing with other people's seals. We went in, and the leader started counting down. Unfortunately, he still hit Stonega II before the rest of us and drew hate. He died, followed by the rest of us very quickly.

Second fight: Made some small adjustments, namely staying turned backwards and decided to launch Stonega II by the in-game clock. This worked like a charm, so I recommend this method. (Basically, choose a time and have everyone hit macro at that time. So simple!) Drops were Refresh, Behourd Lance, Manta Belt, Fire Pact, Hecteyes Eye, and Mercury.

Third Fight: Same strategy, went off without a hitch. I was the only BLM who got into the red, and that was in the last seconds of the fight. Easy. Dropped Utsusemi: Ni, Tilt Belt, and various odds & ends (not sure, wasn't on my orb.)

Fourth Fight: Almost ran into trouble here...the leader popped Manafont and proceeded to start casting like crazy, and drew hate and died after launching Stonega II and Thundaga. We would have ben fine, except that the Sobbing Eye somehow got alongside of us and was able to use his AoE Petrify move, so we both got petrified. I was in low red HP, and barely finished him off with a Drain spell at the last minute. Dropped Utsusemi: Ni (2/4), Tourney Patas, Mercury, Hecteyes Eye, and a couple other things (Sorry, can't remember offhand). It was my orb, so I got to keep Utsusemi which sold for 500k. Not Bad.

All in all, this BCNM is easy if you know what you are doing. If things go bad, they normally will go bad in a major way, causing a wipe. Just try to all keep pace spell-wise, and everything will work out fine.

Did about our 6th run at this last night.
This bcnm so easy. Good rdm, two ok nin, no problems.
rdm/blm
nin/blm
nin/war
All runs made on 100% Full Moon, 4 on firesday and darksday.
We went 7/7 on wins, no problems, even on firesday with firega.
Nin/blm helps tons on Ninjitsu damage, I went /war for a voke.
Only 1/7 on PCC, 3 NI's, 1 Erase, suprised drop rate so bad on a favorable moon phase.
Also would be cool if you could choose the Rare/ex version, if you were keeping.
Now I have to battle with never selling it.
Oh yea, lotted 987 for the PCC, sry Rollover and Bonzi.
Now even sexier galka^^

It's an AOE Petrify, not facing the mob isn't going to prevent it from hitting. Only reason you turn away from the eyes is so you don't get hit with Paralyze. Note, the NM also has an AOE Bind.

Went in as 3xSMN on two occasions (might've been three but my memory is appaling). All three of us had avatars out according to the day (we timed it so as to avoid Lightsday and Darksday) - first time was Shiva, second time I think was Ramuh.

Astral Flow barrage #1, both the Compound Eyes go down.
Astral Flow barrage #2... well, I think it was needed the first time because of Firaga from the Sobbing Eyes, which killed my Shiva and got a mate's down quite far (it seems that mine was the target of the AoE...). Second time, certainly, this was pretty unnecessary because the Sobbing Eyes died from melee while we were still Refreshing our MP. Melon Juice FTW... not. -.-

Best drop on both occasions, though, was de Saintre's Axe - pretty sucky, since on Hades this actually sells better to a NPC than on AH-Jeuno. But it IS quite possible, and very easy, to bomb the eyes with Astral Flow - even if it does take two hours' downtime (or alternatively a COR's 2H, but that's out of the question)

A person who i became friends with afterwards was doing a random shout in jeuno to do this bcnm and said he needed a blm, now at the time i was a 39 blm (i know, he took a gamble with me). Anyhow, i think he was going with the whole regular setup when ppl dropped out and he decided to quit, but we had me (taru 39blm/whm), him (mithra 40blm/whm), and another taru (40blm/whm). I said, hey, if nin's can do this stuff, then we can too. So with 3 blm/whms, we all went into the bcnm, buffed, walked to the edge of the arena but not to aggro, and here is how we coordinated it.

We lined up, each one to target one of the eyes, I was on the left, mithra middle, other taru on right. The idea was i targeted the left with an AOE and the middle targeted the main and so on so fourth. The recommended spell ofcourse is StonegaII, but for some that's hard to get or if you were like me and went in under lvled i used FiragaII.

Everyone targets their mark, don't cast yet, turn around to avoid petrified, and do a countdown so that you all blast it at the exact same time. Then once the initial spell is cast, just start nuking away and healing yourself when you can. After i say between the 2-4th AOE the two weaker ones drop off and then it's just you three, the big mob, and a stone II marathon. We did this with NO items, though we may have used a manafont every other time.

We got crappy drops for it, but hey, who says 3 blm's can't do anything? :D, {Black Mage} {Power}

If you all have questions or want my help, my taru is Newbusarcanemus on Fenrir server.

how did you have FiragaII at lvl 39? w.
Petri always works !?
# Nov 19 2006 at 3:40 PM Rating: Decent
Did this as RDM and with a ls mate as nin/war.
The seconds LS Nin/war was offline so we took a random nin/war we shouted for.

I dont know what the hell you all talking here, i read your tactics and we did it exactly like you all said.

buff up > rest to full mp > all go in I ( RDM ) gravity Sobbing Eye and run down hill, but he uses his petri and i was petri and couldnt move.
AND I HAVENT FACED HIM, he was directly behind me.

He also cast Stun, so i was petri, stun and bound, never ever had a chance to kite em for a long time, and the random nin was down to half hp after 10secs. he had shadows up but took damage?
So i went back up to heal him...of course i then took hate from his compound.

So what did we wrong, petri always stick, it does no matter in what direction you watching when he casts it.
Petri always works !?

I have done this BCNM as a RDM/BLM numerous times

basically, you should start the battle with Gravity on Sobbing while casting at MAX range then you run like hell away from the NM. The 2 nin's voke their respective eyes and solo them.

here's the tricky part, you wait for the Sobbing Fungus @ the middle area-ish of the battlefield... the Sobbing fungus will cast a spell (petrify, w/e) when it's at MAX range away from you and at this instance you run further down. (at the same time, you should be trying to re-cast bind or gravity, but always run away if you see it start to cast something) It's a very tricky way of kiting, but with practice, you should get it down to a science

Ok so i have seen a post or two about dark knights wanting to do a good BCNM. So I had my doubts today when I got invited to do this BCNM with 2 nin/rdms. I figured what the hell and it turns out to be the quickest 800,000 i have ever made. What you do is have the 2 nin/rdms do their thing by while the DRK casts stun on the Sob eye and takes it all the way down the hill to the burning circle. When you get the the bottom wait for it to catch up with you and stun it again. Then start your run back up the hill. By then the nins should have already killed the other 2 eys. Meet up with them as they tank the eye at the same time start casting their magic.

IMPORTANT! Do not face the sob eye he will petrify you! Face away from him cast aspir, drain and try to either stun firaga or breakaga. Do not engage just nuke I brought 2 Hi-potions and only used one (but i really didn't need to) and the second time around used non. I ate a jack-o for the evasiona and dark magic skill and used a blink band other than that my gear was nothing out of the ordinary. Seriosuly if you can get yourself 2 nins (that know what they are doing) drks do just fine here. Stun helps a lot for shadows and overall damage. I think most partys probably lose to this BCNM because of the fact they one look at the eye or two get breakaga. With a skillful drk to stun these moves it makes this fight so easy. If you have good marksmanship you can turn here and there and shoot it with bloodly bolts too my one shot that i laid hit for 43 dmg.

Good luck I hope this helps you drks looking for an easy way to make some cash. BTW my drops were nothing good the first time around maybe 10k overall (manthra belt, refresh, some lance, mercury) the second time around it dropped a black pearl which sells for like 20k here and Ut NI which almost goes for a mil. If you know how to beat this BCNM it truly is just a gamble you will either make out rich or barely brake even.

Alright this is a very easy BCNM. We did it three times tonight in about 30 minutes. setup was RDM/NIN, NIN/BLM, NIN/BLM.

I as the RDM buffed everyone (shell II, Protect II) then Stoneskin, Phalanx, and Utsu: ichi myself. Rest back up to 200 mp. Ninjas cast Utsu and we head up the hill. I pull the sobbing eye with gravity. Ninjas use Ni level elemental wheel spells to pull the other two off. I kited the sobbing with gravity and bind. Ninjas finished off the other two eyes. Lastly I brought the sobbing eye up met them at half way and we nuked the crap out of it. Other than that it was a little bit of Cure III ing the ninjas and getting out of firaga range to convert. Though it wasn't nessary to do so, it made me fell better to not have to rest. Make sure you aren't facing the eyes when you kill them, Petrify is a pain. That is the only reason I even got to yellow health. The last run I didn't even get hit once.

Wash
Rinse
Repeat

Drops were not that great two fire spirt pacts for the other two. I did how ever manage to get the erase drop. But I had forgotten I had bought extra gear for the BCNM.(I usually have approx. 14 open slots) So Erase just kinda poofed as the NIN passed and I lotted. That was 280k that I missed out on, but all in all it was a good run. And the ninjas want to do it again sometime. So I just need to get another 40 seals.
