Battle Notes

Trade 40 Beastmen Seals to Shami and get a Star Orb. Trade the orb to the Burning Circle in Horlais Peak located in the Yughott Grotto.

This fight is capped at level 40, and only three people may enter the Burning Circle. Upon entering, you will find three mobs from the Hecteyes family: One large Sobbing Eyes and two smaller Compound Eyes.

  • The Sobbing Eyes will cast Firaga I, Bindga and Breakga and is capable of healing itself using the ability Catharsis.

  • All have Hecteyes special attacks, and will spam "Hex Eyes" if the characters are not already paralyzed.

Strategies

A typical strategy for this fight is to go in with a party consisting of two NIN/BLM or NIN/RDM's and a RDM/BLM. Eat food, buff, heal, then each NIN will take their own Compound Eyes while the RDM kites the Sobbing Eyes with Elemental Seal Gravity to start, then Bind and Gravity. Each NIN will spam Tier-2 Elemental Wheel Ninjutsu on their Compound Eyes, making sure to keep their back to the mob to avoid the paralysis effect of the Hex Eyes ability. Once their individual mobs are dead, the NIN's will rush to where the RDM has kited the Sobbing Eyes and spam Tier-2 Elemental Wheel spells again until the fight is over, while again keeping their backs turned towards the mob.

Note: Reports indicate that it is possible for Scroll:Utsusemi: Ni to drop twice from the same treasure chest at the end of the fight.

Hi! I am a 56BST/28WHM here that would love to start a regular party for the PCC drop from Under Observation. I have lots of seals to use as I dont do BCNM's all that much. Please send me a /tell or email me (cohen1976@yahoo.com) if you want to team up on this or other BCNM's. Thanks!

Ok, I tried this last night...didn't go so well but it was a learning experience.

We were RDM/NIN, BLM/WHM, PLD/WAR(me)

I was worried about taking a lot of damage during the fight so I went out and got tons of nice stuff for it...I had Vit+40 for this fight, it was crazy mad. What I found out was with all this VIT I was only getting hit for 15 dmg...which was amazing. However, the Fire II beat the hell out of me for 150-170dmg with firga+shell II on.

So, what I sadly learned was that PLD/WAR could NOT tank this. However, I believe we can do it with PLD/NIN. You must have Utsusemi for those fire spells. Really pisses me off when SE makes stuff that the job created to be the games tank cannot do...

This was our strategy the first time: BLM waits where we came in while pld and rdm go up to main area. Rdm casts gravity on main boss and gets all 3 aggro. I voke one minor guy off rdm and start tanking while rdm kites other 2 to the blm. BLM the elemental seal+bind on the main boss, and then blm and rdm run up to main area. Then rdm binds the other minor boss just outside the arena. Then we kill the minor boss I was tanking. If something became unbound the rdm would start kiting it.

This one failed massively. As the rdm got the main boss down to the blm it cast Bindga and bound the blm just as he hit elemental seal. He was about to cast bind but the rdm turned around and started running back to main area. Then the boss got out of magic range so blm couldn't bind. Rdm realized this and started to run back to blm but the main boss busted out breakga and rdm was petrified. So they had to wait for bind and petrify to wear off b4 they could do anything. This took for freaking ever. A yag drink and a half wore off me in the time it took them to do this. I did surprisingly good melee damage on the things...I got it down to 2/3 appox. life a few times but it uses drain. DO NOT underestimate the Hexeye paralyze...its almost paralysis 100%. Extremely hard to get actions off. I had remedies so for the first guy I could somewhat keep paralyze off but it was a losing battle b/c Fire II beat the hell out of me. Finally as I was just about dead the other 2 show up and cast cure II on me a few times(when they could have cast cure III) to make a long story short I took a tp attack and another Fire II and was dead b/c they didn't heal me fast enough. About 5 seconds later the main boss showed up...Elemental Seal + Bind did crap...bound for 30 seconds at the most. Then they all wiped shortly after all the mobs got together. Run #1 failure.

Then we went in a again with a new strategy...
Everyone goes up top. Rdm gravity the main guy. I take one minor guy and blm elemental seal + bind the other minor guy just right outside the arena(we figured ES+Bind would work longer on the smaller guys). Then the rdm was to kite the main guy around while me and blm took minor ones out. We went after one guy and I tried tanking backwards so no paralyze but didn't get turned around in time and got it anyway. Thing spammed Fire II 2x I was hurting. ES+bind only worked for 30 seconds again so then we had 2 minor guys on us with a paralyzed pld that couldn't get an ability off to get hate off blm. Eventually got sentinal off. BLM got total of 2 nukes off... I wiped to Fire II's from both minor guys. BLM wiped and rdm ran from the battle. Run #2 failure
-----------------------------------------------
New plan that we are gonna try when moon cycle looks good again...

Jobs RDM/NIN, BLM/WHM, PLD/NIN

We are all going up together. RDM gravity main guy and takes off running. I voke one of the lesser guys. And then we let the RDM gravity kite the other 2 because on the previous runs he WASN'T taking much dmg at all. I plan on kiting 1 of the lesser mobs while trying to keep utsusemi up. Hopefully this will reduce the Fire II damage with the shadows eating it and keep me from getting paralyzed. Then have the BLM nuke it to death, then bring other lesser one up and repeat.
---------------------------------------------
So things to note:
*Paralyze is REALLY strong
*Fire II damage is REALLY strong
*You NEED a nin/war or /nin for utsusemi to take out fire dmg
*Have to keep mobs u are killing apart, all the AoE status and damage together = one dead party really fast
*Would recommend the rdm and tank kiting the main boss once other 2 lesser ones are dead. Just share hate and make sure u keep utsusemi up.
*EDIT* MUST STRESS THAT NEARLY 80% OF THE DAMAGE IS IN THE FIRE SPELLS. IF YOU WANT TO WIN U NEED TO CUT THAT DOWN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
* Also Bind does not work very well on these guys. If you need time you can bind them, but that will only give u 30 seconds to work with. I assumed ES+bind would give us atleast 1-2 minutes. BLM said it would give 5 minutes, but I figured it wouldn't be that long.

Sadly I must admit that a ninja tank for this one will probably be best. They could turn around and stand there and tank these things with utsusemi ichi and ni and will have provoke. WAR/NIN would work well as they will have provoke and can either stand there and tank or kite, I would recommend kiting. PLD/NIN might work, I have a lot of hate tools but nothing as good as provoke.

Remember this is for a rdm/nin, blm/whm, tank setup. I know some people have had some success with other setups but nothing terribly consistent.

Will post how next run goes in a few days

i went in last night w/ my LS buddies. rng/nin nin/war smn/whm (me)

at first it was hard cuz i didn't know what to do. 1st time around we died pretty fast. the 2nd round i did better, kited the sobbing eyes around the arena. not much of a problem, except when carby died and i had to recast i got hit a couple of times. i died, then nin. we killed both compound eyes and took sobbing eyes down to 60%.
3rd round, i screwed up bad. >< i was using ifrit so he can take the fire 2 and firagas, but when i tried to cure the nin, i bumped my release macro and the eyes went after me. it was downhill from there. i think we could've been it if i hadn't released.

by the way, avatars can kite awesome in this. use ifrit, cuz he'll take the least damage from firaga and fire 2. 9 hours later, i'm standing here at work kicking myself in the *** for forgeting to astral flow. ><

Tokitoki I tryed this same BCNM with the simular strategy only we used two bst and a rdm and had problems killing the weaker eyes. The other bst and I were almost always paralyzed I spent more time curing status affects than attacking the mob. Any suguestions? I'm currently in the process of lvling Sam to 40 to attept this BCNM with CloudStrifeHY's strategy. After reading everyones post and being able to guage the strength of the mobs first hand this seems like the easiest way to beat this bcnm. If anyone has any stategy that consistantly wins this BCNM that doesn't involve the use of any jobs two hour please help me out. I've not been abe to come up with a better one than CloudStrifeHY's. Thank you.

OK, we did this 3 times today, lost 1 due to time out because something happened with teh 2 BST, i dont know what though as i was kiting.

Our setup: BST/WHM BST/WHM RNG/NIN

RNG: Ratk the sobbing eye and run towards teh bottom of the BC area, when you get to the BC at teh bottom shadowbind and run back up. You will most likely be bound as you turn teh first corner, just face teh wall and wait for it to wear off. Continue running and keeping your distance. The turn is the tricky part, shadowbind and run like hell. After teh 2 BST kill the mobs, run back up, let pets get ahte, and manage your hate well. Let teh CourierCarrie tank.

BST: BST enter BC, call beast, buff, rest. They send their pets to the compound eyes AFTER the rng pulls teh sobbing eye. Choose one mob for both bst to atatck to kill it quickly, while one CC tanks the other eye. Save TP for second eye to finish it quick and as the RNG comes back with the sobbing eye sic pets on it. The rest is basically healing/resting/enfeebling, with the occasional melee. Have to try not to get hate or petrified.

Went 2/3 on BCNM like this, as said, with one time out cause the BST were slacking off... No charm though, only like 24k total ^^;

PC charm drop confirmed
# Jul 28 2005 at 1:04 AM Rating: Decent
Figured i would post this under the BCNM as well, first posted it under PCC listing.

Ok, I can confirm PCC drops off of BCNM 40 Horalis Peak Under Observation fight. Just got the PCC drop and keeping it for use =).
After our first 2 trys both times taking out sobbing eyes, first time suffering death of our DRK, then going to die myself on a second eye, our second run all survived past sobbing eyes, then I (war/nin) went down on 2nd eye, and time ran out. Then our other 4 runs after we came back another day, all 4 sucesses. Here is how drops were:
1: NI, no longer 1 mil, but still 700k (unicorn)
2: drops totaling <100k >.<
3: NI, and Erase, 700k a pop (yay)
4: our last run possibly due to expenditure of all of our Beastman seals, we got it! : You Find a Peacock Charm. (1/4 successful runs)

All i can say is remember 2 things for this BCNM, you need a kiter,(rdm/nin VERY good) and someone with /whm, for paralyna, paralyze from these mobs is a huge pain in the butt. From what I have put in this post you can figure out our setup: rdm/nin, war/nin (me), and drk/whm, I know, but thek drk is a taru taru, and it worked out GREAT!, I mean once we changed the drks sub from war to whm we owned it so easily was no challenge. Hope this helped. (By the way so far only NI and Erase from what was dropped was worth anything special out of all our runs)

One Winning Strategy

Went on a run last night and won 2/3 times. We lost the first due to strategy, and after we made the adjustment this BC was not very difficult. We won the 2nd in 11 minutes and the 3rd in 9 minutes. No PC ; ;

Setup was RNG/NIN RNG/NIN RDM/WHM

Enter the BC and after everyone buffs up, gather at the entrance. RDM casts bind on the Sobbing Eyes, and links the 2 compound eyes. At this point all of the mobs are linked on the rdm. Rdm then casts gravity on the sobbing eyes, and commences to kite it back towards the entrance along with the other Compound eye. Rangers move in to the bc and ONE rng shadowbinds one of the compound eyes in the bc. Both RNG immediately Barrage it and then finish it off. If both rng land a full barrage it goes down fast, not one hit, but fast. The compound eye has somewhere around 1k-1.5k hp.

RNG then go after the other compound eye. Pull it away from where the rdm is kiting the Sobbing eyes, and then the other rng can shadowbind it. Take turns firing arrows on it and sharing hate. After its dead move on to the Sobbing Eyes.

When attacking any of the eyes, the person who has hate should turn their back. Then just trade hate with the other rng. If done right it should ping-pong back and forth and you can avoid para. If you should get paralyzed the rdm can come help you out. When taking on the Sobbing eyes avoid grouping up in a cluster. The nm likes to cast the AoE pertify (breakga) so keep a safe distance to where it will only hit one person. We continued to kite the main NM for the duration. The strategy worked well, and was very effective. The eyes dont hit for very much (around 40-50 per hit), but the magic can be deadly so keep shadows up and take caution to avoid lumping up so that an AoE won't hit but one person.

We lost the first time because we initially had the rdm kiting only one, and mistakenly thought each rng could solo an eye quick enough.

Hope this will help everyone out :)

me and some friends just did it.
DRK/WAR
NIN/WAR
RDM/BLM

pretty simple RDM used gravity on sobbing eye while me and NIN beat the compounds, I preety much did the hitting while NIN tanked both compounds at the same time.

didn't get charm tho =(

Okay... 2 Friends and I are breeding on a Tacktic...

we tried this yesterday with RNG, THF and WHM/BLM(me).

On the first run, we tried to bind 1 eye, THF kites the second and Ranger killes 1... fatal mistake. Bind didn't last that long.

The second and third run, were a bit better.

I got myselfe hasted, and took care about the sobbing eye with bind, blind and so on... worked pretty well. But Ranger and THF werent able to kill the compound eyes.

Next time we need Hi-Potiones and Medicines against paralyzis. And maybe other DD jobs... I think a WAR or SAM with 2 HRs could have done nice.
ouch
# Jul 24 2005 at 1:29 AM Rating: Good
well, after hearing that the peacock charm might drop from this BCNM, I just HAD to go find out for myself. This is the strategy I devised, and it was a TREMENDOUS failure...

whm/blm
pld/war
blm/whm

After prebuffs and such, the paladin was to run in, voke one of the eyes, and turn around. The Blm was to nuke the eyes the pld was voking, while the whm healed. The blm took down one eye by about 20% of its max hp before the pld dropped, not fun.

This was a learning experiance though, here's a bit of trivia I learned.

1. Turning around does stop Hex Eye. Half of my battle log is "Hex eye has no effect" over and over again since we've turned around. Hex eye, btw, is the horrible AoE paralyze. This will NOT stop Breakga, a spell that does AoE petrify.

2. The ENTIRETY of the damage is done in fire spells. Alright that's a lie, but still, almost 80% of the damage done by these things was in the form of fire spells, even when we had already put barfira up.

oops, forgot one

3. Do NOT try to sleep them. They have the Resist Sleep ability and are darkness elemental to boot!

It's not 100% but the Peacock Charm drops from this BCNM. Some Jp's on my server has had this drop a couple times and they posted it up in their bazaars. Just thought you'd like to know. But there is ALOT of people who have tried this 20+ times and gotten nothing. So I'm guessing this is a UBER rare drop. So don't in thinking your gonna get the charm. I'll keep checking to see what chest/BCNM the Emp. Hairpin drops in.

First off, no...i haven't beat this. Went it with:

Pld/war (me)
Rdm/nin
Whm/blm

These are just suggestions:

Done it twice so far, failed twice. I died both times. First time, me and Rdm died. Second time, just me.
-My biggest suggestion...bring a 39+ whm for Stona,(gets rid of Petrification) and make sure they are WELL out of the AoE.
-Bring a DD if at all possible. The hits I got on just the compound eyes alone....not enough. By the time i would have killed that one...whm would probably be out of MP. Even with the Rdm kiting the Sobbing and One Compound eye, then sweeping by with a quick blast...probably not enough.
-Other suggestion. Have the Rdm sit on the edge of range and grav the Sobbing Eye first, followed by the DD hitting the left or right Compound as it sweeps in. Make SURE you know who's targeting what and call it all out before hand. You can all stand at the entrance far enough away to target, without getting aggro for some time. Use that time wisely to talk quickly and call your targets.
-The suggestions we've heard before entering the ring, from another group, try adding a Bst to your mix. Maybe a Bst/(DD type). Personally, im gonna try leveling Drk and try some kinda Drk/war or Bst/drk...or something.

This is just the facts:

1) Uses fire, yes...Fire II and Firega. ALL the eyes use it, not just sobbing or compound. Firega isnt a problem if your team is split up right. Only two people will take damage.
2) AoE is HUGE. I went far left in the circle arena, Rdm/nin went far right, whm/blm at the entrance.....whm STILL got hit with Petrify AoE. BE CAREFUL.
3) Yes, the paralyze they use is EXTREMELY nasty and effective. Consider 9 out of 10 attacks to be paralyzed. Barparalyze did just about jack. They cast it FAST too. Watch out for this.
4) They WILL bind you probably in the first two hits. First time we tried, they hit us with it asap. Second time...took a round -_-
5) They are setup as follows:
CE SE CE
The arena isnt small..but its not huge either. Keep in mind...they move pretty quick...not fast..but quick
6) Be patient. You get zoned in far enough down the hill that you dont have to worry about anything other then your 15mins of time. Do your buffs once your actually ON the battlefield (because everything will disappear if you buff outside the burning circle ^^). Buff up, save your short buffs for the entrance. (Barfira, short timed foods, etc.) You have time...use it wisely. If your going for some kind of record...dont go for it your first time through. Take the hit, know what its about, then go ahead.
7) Be smart. We got them to split, but in the wrong way.(2 on me, 1 on rdm -_-) If ONE person goes down and there's more then ONE left...Run. Dont even try to be the hero's. They will own you in this life and the next.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
(damnGrudgeSwordwillbeMINE) and no i dont wanna buy it ^^

hmm
# Jan 05 2005 at 6:25 PM Rating: Default
hmm i would see this done with 3 peoples. i know how.:
u need:
2Rng/nin
1rdm/nin

1) buff up, eat food.
2) as you approache the mobs, have the 2rngs go in each taking 1 coumpound eye.
3) rangers pull em to the BCNM starting thing and kill them here. shadowbind > barrage > shoot > WS then they should b unbound. if you have 3 shadows up keep shooting but count the shadows gone. when you have one left start recasting utsusemi so that makes up total of 6shadows.u shouldnt have problems taking em down.
3') meanwhile rdm gravitys the sobbing eye, bind if he can or sleep. kite him around making sure u dont take alot of dmg because his AOE petrify requires TP. and he doesnt get TP if doesnt deal/receive damage.
4) each ranger pick a side.
5) rdm brings the eye to the middle
6) the rngs start shooting from both sides that way you wont be affected by melee since he will b running from one side to another.
6') meanwhile rdm stay out of AOE petrify. if he petrifys your in a rough ride. cure the rngs if needed but stay outa AOE range. and just keep gravitying him. he will be slower moving thought to the rangers. if you see him start AOE petrify have both rng n rdm move the heck out. if rngs get petrify leave them and finish him off yourself with kiting. just poison him and keep urself utsusemied. and of course gravity him.
the rangers should have dealt enough dmg for you to finish him off. if you can, and have shadows. stop, utsus urself and give him a nuke.
No where to turn

This BCNM is hard! I did it like 4 times died 4 times. I tied all the stratgeys that you guys posted but I cant seem to get a single hit off because of petrify and paralysis even with the debuffs on so if anyone can post step byh step what they did to prepare and beat this BCNM I would greatly appreacite it.
