Battle Notes

Trade 40 Beastmen Seals to Shami and get a Star Orb. Trade the orb to the Burning Circle in Horlais Peak located in the Yughott Grotto.

This fight is capped at level 40, and only three people may enter the Burning Circle. Upon entering, you will find three mobs from the Hecteyes family: One large Sobbing Eyes and two smaller Compound Eyes.

  • The Sobbing Eyes will cast Firaga I, Bindga and Breakga and is capable of healing itself using the ability Catharsis.

  • All have Hecteyes special attacks, and will spam "Hex Eyes" if the characters are not already paralyzed.

Strategies

A typical strategy for this fight is to go in with a party consisting of two NIN/BLM or NIN/RDM's and a RDM/BLM. Eat food, buff, heal, then each NIN will take their own Compound Eyes while the RDM kites the Sobbing Eyes with Elemental Seal Gravity to start, then Bind and Gravity. Each NIN will spam Tier-2 Elemental Wheel Ninjutsu on their Compound Eyes, making sure to keep their back to the mob to avoid the paralysis effect of the Hex Eyes ability. Once their individual mobs are dead, the NIN's will rush to where the RDM has kited the Sobbing Eyes and spam Tier-2 Elemental Wheel spells again until the fight is over, while again keeping their backs turned towards the mob.

Note: Reports indicate that it is possible for Scroll:Utsusemi: Ni to drop twice from the same treasure chest at the end of the fight.

This BCNM is cake, took me a couple tries to figure it out, skilled players will not have a prob with it, NIN/BLM and RDM/WHM can duo it easy in 11 mins.
If you having problems, try different setup, or keep trying. Its hard to explain strat, you have to change how you kite and what you do depending on circustances as they arise.

And yes i was part of that duo, as a galka rdm. for those who don't know a good setup, nin/blm, nin/blm, rdm/whm. make sure your kiter is a very good player, he has the most important job, if he messes up you die. well you can get by w/o but you better have x-potions. lol
Can i do this?

Hey i need the pcharm for my drk, since i admit our acc isn't the best. My only Job above lvl 40 is drk which i do have war, thf, and nin subbed. Anyone done this with a drk successully? If so can you please tell me. Also if i sould lvl war up to 40 or lvl any better subs for this.

Could someone explain the exact strategy for the party set up of nin nin rdm? I really want to do this but have no idea what I or others must do. Thanks!
NIN/NIN/RDM

OK I've done this 3 times with NIN, NIN, RDM. Basically the RDM subs nin prefferably to keep stoneskin up longer. The Nins can have either one nin sub warrior and the other sub blm OR both sub war. Now at start have RDM buff (Barfire or barfira, phalanx, protect, etc.) up and Nins use utsusemi: Ni. Have rdm heal to full and come to the edge of the battlefield. Rdm initiates fight with gravity on sobbing eye and runs down the ramp. The Nins immediately pull hate on the other two (one nin gets right one and one nin gets left one), they run into the battlefield while the RDM runs away from area. Nins go in opposite directions into the field. At no time should you face the compound eyes they will paralyze you. Face away from them and element wheel them repeatedly, make sure to use to lower the resistance to the type of damage the next element ninjitsu does (IE Huton lowers resistance to ice so follow that up with Hyoton then Katon, and so on. Where you start in the wheel doesn't matter). Make sure to keep Utsusemi up to stop Fire II and Drain. While this is going on the rdm kites the other one below with bind and gravity (I can't go to in depth on this because this hasn't been my role). One Nin is likely to finish of his eye first, DO NOT go pull hate from the rdm, instead go help the other NIN finish his off. After both compound eyes are dead run down and have either NIN voke or if one is nin/blm for extra int obviously the nin/war should voke. Make sure you are far enough apart that only one person at a time gets hit with firaga. Again do not pull out your weapons. Have both NINs element wheel the sobbing eye to death while RDM heals. Bring appropriate gear and food and medicine. My wheel is: Huton > Hyoton > Katon > Suiton > Raiton > Doton. Hope this helps. No need to ever pull out weapons. Hope all this helps good luck.

EDIT: Ninja's can use Kurayami to blind them it will stick if ninjitsu is capped, I use it inbetween the first and second wheel.

EDIT: Just got through doing it and one nin went as a NIN/WHM, after both compound eyes were killed the NIN/WHM healed us up, barfira and go.

6/7 Victories, lost one because one of the NINs forgot to put up Utsusemi. Drops are as follows *very lucky that one of the P.Charms was my orb*
2/7 P.Charm 3/7 Utsusemi: Ni 0/7 erase 0/7 phalanx and then a bunch of crap. Worst run on my orb only got me 10K, but the 25 Mil P.Charm made up for it ^^ Charm is roughly 5% drop rate I believe.

If the problem with pld tanking is you have to face away from the mob to avoid paralize, can the pld use blinding potions the whole time to avoid the Hex blast? I know damage would be reduced while blind, but not compleatly gimped I think. Especially if you add a little +acc gear or food.

Just went 3/3 as nin/war, nin/whm, rdm/blm.. was cake. Had rdm kite main eye, each nin take other. Then nin/war tanks main once ready. Best time was in the 8 minute range, not a record, but not bad for first timers.
Success :D

I did this yesterday as the Rdm/whm :D Had 2 Nin/blm with me and our first try went horribly... hehe but! We did it over in a more organized manner.. and on the fourth run we got the P.charm!! Did it again two more times and Ni + Erase dropped outta the same chest XD Was awesome drops for only 6 runs :p

me and 2 friends did it last night...
rdm/blm
nin/rdm
nin/rdm

6 runs... first run was a mess, 1 nin died in about 8 seconds, then we slowly lost everyone else. after that 5 more runs went smooth as smooth can be!

Drops:
2 peacock charms (that's right! 2 in 5 wins)
1 Ni
a whole bunch of crap

Yea, I was one of those ninja! Woo --;. This is probably the easiest BCNM I've ever played difficulty wise, but its a real pain to get 10k in drops when you wasted 40 seals.. The rate isn't so good.

RDM/NIN
NIN/BLM
NIN/BLM

Pull the Sobbing one down with grav and let the NIN/BLMs kill the other two minor ones. Then bring the Sobbing back up and let the NIN's nuke it with Ninjitsu and spells. Easy stuff... drops SUCK unless you get a Peacock Charm.

*note: When pulling the Sobbing with Gravity... Grav, run, and nuke it with Stone II. Otherwise you won't get nearly anough hate to pull it away from the NIN/BLM's.

easy BCNM, easiest I've done so far.

i did this 5 times 2 nights ago. in my opinion, BST x3 is ther best way to go.

we'd go in, call pets (tigers for their extra speed), and the kiter would sic his tiger on the main Sobbing eyes. the other 2 would link instantly.

main kiter would run away a bit, Heel his pet, and he would just let the eyes chase his pet (which he could re-call by the time it was dead).

the otehr 2 BST would put our pets on one of the Compound eyes (smaller ones), and we'd beat it to death. once that weas dead, we'd kill the next small one, then team up on the big one. each full run took 8-10 minutes each time. worked flawlessly each time! but unfortunatly no Pcharm drop on any of the 5 runs :(

Me and 2 friends have saved up most of our seals to do BCNM runs together, we were going to do BC20 for and make money form Astral drops, but looking up other BCs now.

I am a 50MNK, with WAR, THF and NIN sub jobs, one friend has MNK, RNG, THF mains and soon NIN sub and other has WHM and SMN.

How effectively could MNK/nin's cope, tanking and DD'ing? and a SMN kite the boss?
fun!

So my friends and I have done this one... 11 times i think.

Beating it we are 8/11 I think. with a setup of RDM/WHM, NIN/WAR, and DRK/THF

ok... times we died was mainly when the eyes were spamming breakga, bindga, and stun >< one after the other.

BUT!!! we are 2/11 on peacock charm!! I don't know what to say to that but we have been getting a great drop rate on that. On the other hand, we were also trying to get Erase but no drop on that :-/

I'm ok with it though! Happy hunting!

easiest way
# Nov 17 2005 at 1:45 PM Rating: Decent
The easiest way to do this is with 2 ninjas and a black mage or ranger. 1 nin pulls the middle one n runs all the way to the bottom, but as he runs past, have the other nin facin away from the mobs and voke one, and that nin n DD kill that one while the other nin is at the bottom, then by the time he is rdy to come back u will have killed that one u pulled, then bring the 2 back up and have the other nin take one, n repeat, n then on the final one, jus make sure nins keep aggro til like half hp , then the DD can go crazy, like blm do stonega 2, or rng eagle eye shot n stuff. it is important to face away from the mobs at all times , or at least the DD can stand behind them, and the nins need all their elemental Ni spells for dmg n to keep aggro
Good if you get it.

Did 14 runs today for P.Charm (12 of the Runs on my orb's)

14/14 Wins. A very easy fight with NIN/WHM x2 + BST/WHM. In fact the easiest, lowest risk BC I think I have ever done.

Now onto the bad news the drops:
1 Ni, 1 Erase, 0 Charm, and lots of 1.5k NPC'd garbage.

So I'm 0/14 on Charm ;;

This is a high risk (using BC's when possible winnings are so low), high reward (slight chance of P.Charm).

Not sure I would use BC's on this again when 60 BC almost guarentee me 1Mil gil whereas the 480 BC I used in this didnt even earn me 1Mil >.<

Well,

I tried this for the first time tonight, and the setup was PLD/WAR, RNG/NIN, and RDM/NIN.

To start, the RDM was kiting as stated in all other posts, and performed marvellously. RDM is definately the right job for kiting the main mob.

I decided to try to go as PLD because I'm a decent tank, and I figured i'd give it a shot. As it happens i'm leveling Alchemy right now, and i'm around lvl 58. So, I decide to farm vines to make Hi-potions. I craft up about 17 to take with me on this BCNM, and get about .6 skillups on it. Very little out of pocket expense, save for the sage, and skillups to boot.

We go in, and start as normal. I flash the one eye, and go to voke the second eye. Problem is, my voke macro all of a sudden will not work. This is the same macro set I use to lvl PLD, and I haven't changed it in over a year, so I know the voke macro works. However, it doesn't wanna work for me after spamming it 5 times. So, i have to go into my menu and pull up voke manually. This has happened to me before, I don't recall exactly where, maybe it was another BCNM, but it happened. After the battle, I went back, and checked the log, and I wasn't paralyzed or otherwise impaired.

So, as it happened, I wasted valuable time. And since I was not able to voke, my RNG took massive hate and got jacked up.

I got the occasional Fire II, Firaga, Drain, and petrify. As a PLD, I took very little damage, and my convenient Hi-potions worked just fine, not dropping to yellow once. The Fire spells, and Drain hit me for around 130-160. And hi-potions give you 100 MP.

However, my RNG died from too much aggro early on. Not a source of pride for this tank. But, with no DD, we were done. I couldn't kill em. I had my RDM zone while I kept hate, cuz that's what a tank does for his mages.

We didn't end up winning, but I know if it weren't for the glitch, we could have. Also, I did have the advantage of Hi-potions, so that gave me a "Tilt." (If you get the reference). Moral is, I think a PLD can tank this just fine. But, it's over if your DD dies. So, take from this post what you will. If you have a 40+ PLD, and don't feel like lvling NIN, it can be done. I will try this again, and keep you updated. If I fail miserably, i'll post that too.

Well, good luck on this guys, and keep the posts coming. The ideas are invaluable.

Your macros might have not worked because you might have been using <bt>. I have had it happen to me when someone pulls a mob by being aggroed, it will not target them.

Another thing that might have happened is that you could have just had some major lag, that has happened before to some people I know.
DRG/WHM
# Nov 12 2005 at 11:31 AM Rating: Decent
Hey, I was wondering if DRG/WHM could work as a 3rd member along with the RDM and NIN needed for this BCNM. DRG would cure the tank with wyvern's healing breaths, and not use so much mp. Has anyone tried it?
My two cents...
# Nov 07 2005 at 2:22 PM Rating: Default
Having done this last night I figured I'd add in what happened for my group. I've been playing NIN/BLM loaded up on INT gear doing very nice damage, and the second I hit 40 I wanted to do this BCNM. I found a RDM friend of mine and we were trying to find another NIN...we wanted it to be an LS member we trust but couldn't find one. So I remember reading that someone used a DRK/WHM, we had an LS member come as that. So the party setup was NIN/WAR (Since I had to tank), DRK/WHM, RDM/WHM.

The battle starts off with RDM casting gravity on Sobbing Eye, then the NIN once past the Compound Eye provokes it...they spam Hex Eye and don't need TP, so make sure your back is to it when you provoke it. Bring them to the back of the circle while RDM kites Sobbing Eye. The NIN keeps hate of both since they attack slow, but they have some pretty nasty spells if they catch you with shadows down. Do the Ninjutsu wheel once and while you're waiting for recast timer debuff the other Eye with your Ninjutsu.

Always keep hate on both, we lost our first run cause the DRK died...I managed to kill both Compound Eyes but could not kill Sobbing Eye by myself...got it half way. I also do not recommend doing this on Darksday, we actually won our run on darksday but Drain hit pretty hard and it wasn't even certain if the DRK and I could kill the Compound Eyes...we were both down to 100 but I managed to keep shadows up and hate and finished them off, ultimately winning.

I'm going to explain what roles you need instead of saying what jobs, cause people always like to ask "Can I use XX instead?". First off you need a kiter. Our RDM did an excellent job but did have a few close calls cause of Breakga, AoE petrify. SMN and BST can also function as a kiter.

Then you need your tank...NIN is the only job that can both tank the mob and do damage at the same time, so when you people keep saying "Can PLD tank?" No they can't. You need to keep your back to the mob at all times, they spam Hex Eye like its no ones business, they don't need TP to do it either. They spam Fire II and sometimes drain that would own a PLD.

Lastly you have some flexibility in this spot. You can basically get any DD as long as they're good and understand to not steal so much hate. If you can't get a second NIN, I highly recommend DRK/WHM. DRK/WHM has a decent MP pool, our Mithra DRK had about 200 MP which was invaluable. Stun was extremely usefull while killing off the Sobbing Eye, he likes to spam Firaga which would still be a hassle if you opted to go with 2 NINs. DRK/WHM does good damage, can support the NIN if things are looking bad, can Paralyna (Though it takes a number of tries to get it off), even Cure if needed.

When the 2 members finally engage Sobbing Eye I recommend your RDM, or kiter whoever it is, stay far away incase of a Breakga. While Breakga isn't that lethal if its you 3 against the last Eye, its still a good idea to have a party member who can cure.

A few after thoughts after doing this BCNM a number of times now. Instead of DRK/WHM I'm thinking of inviting a WHM. While the DRK was very usefull, even if he payed attention they spam Hex Eye and sometimes turn around, every time he was paralyzed. Damage wise he couldn't contribute much. If I had a WHM at my side and was Hasted I could spam the Ninjutsu wheel, he'd be more effective as a healer and I could easily keep my shadows up. Just a thought...

Drop wise, like I said the first time we died since I didn't keep hate on both and the DRK died. The second time I was so hyped up to get a charm that I didn't even notice we got Erase, I was like damn! Then they're like we got Erase and I was like oh cool. The third time we got garbage as well =P. The 3 of us are going back with the same setup to do more runs, at least 3 more times if not more. Good luck everyone!

PS: I really liked this BCNM because its finally one thats fun and doesn't cost a lot to do. I soloed Wings of Fury BCNM20 4 times and it cost me about 150k, and got about 40k in drops, Worms Turn is expensive for RNG and I never get anything good. This is the first time I made money, and theres always that slight chance you get a charm...thats the jackpot. As for NIN tools, you hardly use any, I didn't even use half a stack in 3 runs.

How effective is Bst? I'm looking at most of the setups and they all seem to have ninjas. What things are absolutely necessary?

ex: "you need someone who can cast..."
Is it possible with PLD?

Been looking longingly at this BCNM (or rather, one of its drops) and wanted to know if tanking with a PLD is a feasible alternative to NIN.

RE: Is it possible with PLD?
# Nov 07 2005 at 4:43 AM Rating: Decent
You need to tank with your back to the monster, NIN can use Ninjitsu to keep hate and cause damage, and is more effective with Utsusemi.
RE: Is it possible with PLD?
# Nov 10 2005 at 11:38 PM Rating: Decent
Um... Paladins don't do damage even when they face the mob... lol. I know, I took the job to 75. There is very little difference if a PLD is facing the mob, or has his back turned. However, with this kind of situation, PLD will not work.

Having NINs here tanking isn't about keepign hate, because PLDs using voke and flash will be just as good. It's the fact that NINs can kill the mobs with their backs turned that makes them effective.

My LS and I are 5/6 on this BCNM. Our set up:

rdm/whm (me) uses gravity on Sobbing Eye and kites while other two kill Compound Eyes. I walk just on the edge of the Sobbing Eye's casting range so that when he does cast I can run out to interupt and dash back in to gravity again or bind.

drk/whm binds second Compound Eye immediately after Sobbing eye is pulled and cures nin

nin/war tanks and spams ninjitsu

Mob seems weak to Water II, usually does 120 damage.

Our drops have been tilt belts, mantra belts, grudge sword, behaourd lance, mercury, gems, ice spikes and a phalanx. Last night we got a peacock charm on the last drop.

Happy Hunting!
