Battle Notes

Trade 40 Beastmen Seals to Shami and get a Star Orb. Trade the orb to the Burning Circle in Horlais Peak located in the Yughott Grotto.

This fight is capped at level 40, and only three people may enter the Burning Circle. Upon entering, you will find three mobs from the Hecteyes family: One large Sobbing Eyes and two smaller Compound Eyes.

  • The Sobbing Eyes will cast Firaga I, Bindga and Breakga and is capable of healing itself using the ability Catharsis.

  • All have Hecteyes special attacks, and will spam "Hex Eyes" if the characters are not already paralyzed.

Strategies

A typical strategy for this fight is to go in with a party consisting of two NIN/BLM or NIN/RDM's and a RDM/BLM. Eat food, buff, heal, then each NIN will take their own Compound Eyes while the RDM kites the Sobbing Eyes with Elemental Seal Gravity to start, then Bind and Gravity. Each NIN will spam Tier-2 Elemental Wheel Ninjutsu on their Compound Eyes, making sure to keep their back to the mob to avoid the paralysis effect of the Hex Eyes ability. Once their individual mobs are dead, the NIN's will rush to where the RDM has kited the Sobbing Eyes and spam Tier-2 Elemental Wheel spells again until the fight is over, while again keeping their backs turned towards the mob.

Note: Reports indicate that it is possible for Scroll:Utsusemi: Ni to drop twice from the same treasure chest at the end of the fight.

Just did this 3 times last night and went 3/3 :)

We had:
nin/blm
nin/war
rdm/whm(me)

What we did:
I (rdm/whm) buffed up and then went up and cast bind on sobbering eye. Then I cast grav on another eye. I kited both till both nin finished off the one eye they were working on. Then they went after the other little eye. (this was not very far down the mountain due to gravity). I kited the sobbering eye down to the bottom and then worked my way back up. By the time I get back up, they were finished with the second eye. We then all finished off the sobbering eye.

The only problem was when we went in on earthday... gravity did not stick very well, and wore fast. the nin/war had to voke the sobbering eye off me and he ended up dieing(but we still won!)

Things to remember for kiting...
1. Gravity is your friend
2. Bind works very well. 30+ seconds
3. buffs are good :) if they wear, recast
Easy fight

Well me and my homies from the ls went to do this fight last night. 3/3 on the eyes. We went in as Nin/Whm, Nin/rdm (me), and Bst/whm (practically the best kiter for this Bcnm)and the fight was literally insanely easy. I say the best sub for Ninja is rdm due to the fact of the Intelligence boost and Fast cast. In every fight, I was always the one that killed the compound eye first and of course helped to kill the other compound. After that, went to sobbing eyes and whipped him to pieces. No charm but we are doing this again ^^

Using the NIN NIN RDM setup my teams are now 10/14 on winning with 2 Nis, 1 Erase and no Peacock Charm dropping. Really this is winnable every time, even if you get massive unlucky and someone dies. Read the strategies below, then refer back to these do's and don'ts... they are important:

Do:
-Buff yourselves close to the top so the RDM doesn't start losing Stoneskin or Blink during the long run up there.

-Let the NINs start casting on their eyes before the RDM starts casting on his. Better for a Ninja to suck the first wave of attacks than the Red Mage.

-Face away from the eyes at all times.

-Have the RDM start pulling up the Sobbing Eye to the main area when the first Compound Eye is dead. It doesn't take long for the NIN who is done first to get himself situated with Utsu/heals/whatever and help the second NIN finish his off.

-Maintain your spacing in a big triangle within the main arena when ganging up on the Sobbing Eye.

Don't:
-Attempt to melee them in an effort to finish any of them off.

-Be stuck all the way down the tunnel as the kiting Red Mage when the Ninjas are calling for you. Huuuuuge waste of time, especially if you're bound also, see the next one below.

-All rush down to save the RDM if he is getting pummeled. All three people in a cramped area = you lose, because he will spam Breakga and Firaga which is too much to handle if all three are getting hit at once. If RDM is petrified or bound, one NIN can run down and get agro easily, then run up to main area. RDM can follow when able.

-Get too close to each other in main area when fighting the Sobbing Eye. Maintain your spacing! See above.

-Get all fancy with debuffs when you dont have to. Time is your biggest enemy. 3/4 of my losses were timeups, not wipes. NIN priority is 1) recast Utsusemi. 2) Blast with elementals 3) Debuff only if elemental timers are completely down and Utsu is okay. When RDM is done kiting, their priority is 1) Cure if someone is dangerously close to dying but 2) KILL IT. And don't be tempted to use Ninjutsu elementals if RDM/NIN and out of magic, don't bother. He will resist almost everything. Rest and blast some more with your best spells.

-Panic if the RDM dies, even relatively early. Ninjas should not leave their post under any condition if their Compound Eye is still alive. Kill those two off if you haven't already, and have one Ninja go get the Sobbing Eye if neccesary. Ninjas need to be very efficient if the Red Mages die, you're under a huge time crunch now without a third blaster.

Biggest Do: have fun! These are exciting battles and chances are that you won't become filthy rich at the end. Support your teammates. Learn from your mistakes. Have fun!! Good luck, everybody, and happy hunting!

we had 2 nin and i went bst
the 2 nins nuke wif back turned on the lil guys, they also didnt have all the spells, 4 ni andthe other had 5, I grab the the big eye wif carrie and take him as far away as i can. Once carrie hits 50% i reward and run up and help kill the lil eye that is closest to death. Then we all gang up on the last lil eye, by the time that eye is dead the big eye is usally on its way, call carrie again and sic on big eye while nin nuke and bst and carrie melee, this is the easiest bcnm ifound so far,
drops 2 Ni and rest was prety much cheap stuff.

note make sure all jobs sub whm, after first run nobody had to even use a juice, went so smooth

Having finally decided to lvl my Ninja subjob, I got it to 37, then having so much fun I have decided to lvl to 75.

Once I had got to 40 and capped ninjitsu, I remembered this bcnm so grabbed two friends and we went for it.

Set-up

Nin/Whm
Nin/Whm
Rdm/Nin

I used a little MP gear and Melon pies for int and mp, I had 151 hp as an elvann ninja^^ not bad.

Plan.

We line up at the edge of arena.

Rdm casts Gravity on the Sobbing eye.

Nin 1 takes left compound eye
Nin 2 takes Right compound eye.

We both pulled with Kurayami:ichi then ran to opposite sides of the area.
Didnt bother to engage, just faced the wall.
Continued to debuff, paralyze & Slow. cast another Ni, then proceeded to Nuke.

Meanwhile, the rdm was having no trouble at all, the sobbing eye contiually stops to cast, and the rdm just runs out of range - keeps ichi and stonskin etc... up

Back to the Ninjas: Using the full elmental Wheel, in correct order I was continually hitting damage cap of 77.
When debuffed these Compound eyes rarely need more than Ni to tank.
They go down very fast.

Once mine was dead, I helped the other ninja finish his off, Cured myself (minimul) then cast Barfira (the sobbing eys's only damaging spell is firaga)

We ran down to where the rdm was coming back up the path (yes you kill the compound eyes that fast rdm kites only once down path)
Debuff him, (capped ninjitsu didnt get resisted once)
then start nuking him, the eye is likely to bounce between the two ninjas if there doing similar damage.

breakga resisted all times cast. /whm to thank for that.
Firaga does minimal damage with barfira up, but hes cast quite regulary.

In the end we took so little damage, I really dont think ill go /whm again - /blm for damage increase to finish the bcnm faster.

ninja could do this with no subjob.
Alternative kiters could be bst, summ

we did 3 runs last night we doing 3 more today.

Only significant drop was Erase, Phalax and some of the cheaper lvl 40 weapons.

Good easy bcnm

So far me and my two friends are undefeated in this BCNM and we also broke the record on our second try...then broke it again on our third.

Here's my NIN NIN SMN strategy. Any kiter would work in the SMNs spot really (RDM or BST comes to mind) but my strategy is with SMN kiter.

Me galka NIN/WHM, elvaan NIN/RDM, and a tarutaru SMN/WHM. Me and the other NIN both popped jack-o-lanterns. I'm not sure what the SMN had. Then we entered the BCNM and put up our shadows. We did NOT do any buffs because it's a waste of time with this set up.

All three of us get within range of the NMs. The SMN sends carby at the middle eye (the big one). Then, right after carby goes for the eye, one NIN takes the left eye and the other takes the right and they begin casting jubaku: ichi on them. The NINs then take the eyes to opposite edges of the arena and turn their backs to the mob. So the NINs are facing opposite walls with their mobs attacking them from behind.

It is very very very important that your back is facing the mob. These mobs like to spam a paralyze move that goes through shadows. The paralyze will not effect you if you are not facing the mob. So, do not try to do this face to face. Turn your back to him.

The NINs then begin to spam the elemental wheel while keeping their shadows up. It is very simple and easy as long as the mob is always facing your backside. The mob will barely be able to touch you with melee hits. Most of their melee hits will miss you and the only thing that really takes your shadows are the spells they cast (Fire and Drain). Cure yourself as needed after you get your shadows back up.

While the NINs are taking down their eyes, the SMN then runs out of the arena and down the hill so they are aggro range of the big eye and then calls carby back to him. The SMN leads the big eye down to the bottom of the hill where he has carby engauge the big eye. The SMN runs back up to the arena entrance and waits for carby to die. Then the SMN resummons carby and repeats until the NINs are ready. The SMN will go through about one or two carbies after the first one. This part can be done by RDM or BST as well.

After the NINs take their mobs down, they go for the big eye. One NIN stands in front of the big eye with his back turned to him then casts Jubaku on the big eye, he takes aggro off carby with elemental nukes, then continues to spam the elemental wheel. Once that NIN has aggro, the other NIN stands just inside range of the mob, faces the opposite direction, and begins to spam the elemental wheel. He must make sure he is as far away as possible so he is not hit by Firaga. The SMN releases carby, rests MP if needed, then the SMN cures the NINs when they are hit by Firaga. The NINs continue to spam the wheel until the big eye dies. Then you recieve your rewards from the chest.

A few notes for the NINs.

RDM sub is the best for the NINs because it gives fast cast, magic attack bonus, and cure II. WHM sub is also nice for divine seal+cure II and magic defense bonus. I had whm subbed and resisted petrify (from the big eye) every single time while the NIN/RDM never resisted it. BLM wouldn't be bad either for magic attack bonus but RDM gives magic attack bonus and cures (which you will want). I never once needed voke but I don't see why a NIN/WAR couldn't do this either if he didnt have a mage job to sub.

Also, leave your DD nin gear in your mog house. You will not be going melee at all. Replace them with +evasion, +agi, +int, or +mp. I had +21 evasion, +26agi, +4 int, and +84 mp.

GOOD LUCK!

I just did this today with a couple members of my linkshell, and i'm definitely looking forward to doing it again ^^

We had 2 smn and 1 blm, planning on having the blm possibly kite once we saw how much dmg we had done. I used Ramuh and the other smn used Shiva, and we decided he'd assault the hecteyes on the left, while i assaulted the one on the right (that way we had no direct hate with the main one in the middle, so the blm would have no problems getting hate to kite). Ramuh's hecteyes didn't last long at all o.O and me, ramuh, and the other smn ended up getting hit with breakga since ramuh came along after me sooner than expected. The blm kept us cured (the most action he got the whole time lol) until it wore off, and in the meantime Shiva defeated her hecteyes and came down to join us. The main hecteyes gradually beat down Ramuh and then beat down Shiva, and during this time we ran to the circle to resummon, then we blasted it and it died.

Cake >.>

No fabulous drops, but it was very exciting and lots of fun! The blm had never done a bcnm before so he was very excited to have won on his first bcnm ^^ we're definitely doing it again soon :D

edit: also we beat the record, beating it in exactly 6 minutes. we could've done it faster but we sat at the bottom for a minute or so trying to make sure we were all ready. The only medicines/foods i used was 1 yagudo drink, and the other smn used 1 yagudo drink and an ether. I'unno if the blm used any food, but if he did it didn't matter >.> he had like 600 mp at the end lol next time i think we're gonna have him come as whm so we have Stona and Haste ^^

done this 6 times in 2 days...

went as rdm/drk and nin/war, nin/blm

i am 5 for 6 on wins due to the fact that a replacement nin had no idea about elemental wheel... (rank nine i guess you cant judge everyone by there rank)

went in grav/ blind to stick hate of sobbing eye on me.. as i ran back nins took their comp. eyes.
if you are the one kiting you have to stay just in reach of sobbing eyes spelkl range or it will turn back and breakga (petrify) the nins. so stay just in reach so you can run out when hit starts casting... i put shell on both nins stoneskin and bar fire on myself... i went as /drk for the simple reason i get aspir and i would aspir 30-60 mp each time and thats an extra nuke or cure depending whats needed... while i waited for nins to finish i threw in a bio 2 for the hell of it and took about 3 % off so if you have the mp to spare it is a lil bit of a starter...
nins finished off compounds and double teamed sobbing they were very cordinated and was hitting it with opposite spell within 1 sec of each other...

1/5 on charms with random other ****!!!

Powder Boots Make Things Better
# Jan 21 2006 at 11:59 AM Rating: Decent
I did this BCNM not too long ago with 2 BST/WHM and me a NIN/WAR, heres what we did.

First fight- death. pretty bad too cuz we didnt really know much of what we were doing, ill admit. petrified, dead. not pretty.

Second Fight- We go in, full buff, rest. Kiter BST used reward on his Tiger, waited til reward was back up and we go up. Kiter BST sics tiger on little eye to the left, and the ninja/war goes in after and voke the other little eye. Kiter BST runs to the bottom after heeling, and once he gets to the bottom, he puts it on the little eye again for a little, then, once the big eye catches up, BST uses heel and powder boots and flees back up.

During this time, other BST sics his pet on the eye and melees, he DDs totally. Typically by the time the kiter comes back, the one the ninja and other bst is fighting is dead, so the ninja vokes the other little eye and takes it away from the bst whos kiting the big eye. Both the ninja and the bst proceed to kill the other little eye, and move to help the still kiting bst.

From here, I know i messed up as a ninja. I was worried about tanking the eye, but forgot, BST pet death < Ninja Death. Stonega 2 hurts, but if one of the BST has barstone, it helps. I killed the big eye with a ninja nuke and had 6 hp left (fun)

no pcharm (i wish), but we did get erase. all around fun, took a bunch of tools and 2 charges from powder boots.

Yes you can. I personally have done this. If you don't have carby mitts, get them. Just pull the middle back with carby and just keep out of Breakga and Bindga range and you'll be fine.

Rdm do not get Fire II until lv. 50. This is a level 40 BCNM so I would not recommend going into this with the assumption that your Rdm will use Fire II.

Strat is NIN/WHM (me) NIN/WAR and RDM/BLM.

RDM Elemental Seal + Gravity on the sobbing eyes, Fire II for hate and kites down to the entrance. Ninjas tank backwards and kill their respective hecteyes with NI elementals. NIN/WHM cure/barfira as necessary, kill sobbing eyes same way, keeping spread out as to avoid nasty -ga spells.

No items used, too lazy to even debuff the eyes as they have poor accuracy and slow attacks anyway.

This thing is so easy. We are I think 1/8 on the charm. Lost the first two tries trying to figure out where to kite the sobbing eyes, just kite it down the ramp so you can get out of range of breakga before it finishes casting.

Gah spelling errors.

Yes Ni and Erase still drop, as of Jan 2/06. Went 11 times got 2 Ni and 1 Erase. No charm. :(. Charm being 5% drop is accurate. I recommend not trying to melee these things, you'll get paralyzed and die. Remedy can be paralyzed when using it. Nuke main mob run like crazy. Backward tank the other 2. Shell 2 and barfira are real nice to have on last mob, he'll firaga a lot. And if your healer pulls hate from a distance 75% chance the main mob will Breakga. Breakga can = death in most cases.

I did this last night, setup was nin/war, drg/war (me), and rdm/blm. my whitemage is level 10 and the red mages is 9 so we couldn't sub them. Since I couldn't heal I had 5 hi-potions, an x-potion, and a remedy, ninja had 4 hi-potions and one x-potion. We go in and buff and what not, we all had reraise cause we figured we might die. Ninja and Red mage go in, Ninja pulls the two weaker guys out of the circle and Red mage pulls the big guy out into the grass. we fought outside of the little arena thing so if we died we could reraise without just being killed again. We start fighting them, Ninja and my HP both drop to red pretty quick but we got control and hp pretty much stayed in the red the whole fight. We killed the 2 and ran down to where the redmage was and yeah. He ran out of range AoE and just healed after that. I used my new 2 hour, which was a mistake. I pulled hate and it paralyzed me, I wasted my last potion and remedy and didn't attack a single time until it wore off. But we won, no charm though.

What about a MNK NIN RDM setup?

Basically because I am a MNK, wondering if I could do this if I brought X-Pots, Remedy Potions and maybe subbed ninja for a Utsusemi or two. Think it's possible? NIN and RDM would do the exact same thing. The Paralyze would be countered with the paralyna potions, and I think it could work alright, any thoughts?

Edit: Looked up name of anti-paralyze potion

Did SE remove them because after doing Tails of Woe and seeing Erase or Ni about 3/4 the time, I have trouble believeing I've had this bad of luck.
