Battle Notes

Trade 40 Beastmen Seals to Shami and get a Star Orb. Trade the orb to the Burning Circle in Horlais Peak located in the Yughott Grotto.

This fight is capped at level 40, and only three people may enter the Burning Circle. Upon entering, you will find three mobs from the Hecteyes family: One large Sobbing Eyes and two smaller Compound Eyes.

  • The Sobbing Eyes will cast Firaga I, Bindga and Breakga and is capable of healing itself using the ability Catharsis.

  • All have Hecteyes special attacks, and will spam "Hex Eyes" if the characters are not already paralyzed.

Strategies

A typical strategy for this fight is to go in with a party consisting of two NIN/BLM or NIN/RDM's and a RDM/BLM. Eat food, buff, heal, then each NIN will take their own Compound Eyes while the RDM kites the Sobbing Eyes with Elemental Seal Gravity to start, then Bind and Gravity. Each NIN will spam Tier-2 Elemental Wheel Ninjutsu on their Compound Eyes, making sure to keep their back to the mob to avoid the paralysis effect of the Hex Eyes ability. Once their individual mobs are dead, the NIN's will rush to where the RDM has kited the Sobbing Eyes and spam Tier-2 Elemental Wheel spells again until the fight is over, while again keeping their backs turned towards the mob.

Note: Reports indicate that it is possible for Scroll:Utsusemi: Ni to drop twice from the same treasure chest at the end of the fight.

setup was:
2blm/whm (one of them was me)
1blm/nin
we had 5 orbs.
first we said that if we get drop lower then 1M it goes to the orb user, if higher then we spilt the gil.

plan was:(melon pie, yag dring, blink, prot, shell barfira and aquaveil) ES >> stonega II >> thunderga >> blizaga (the 2 mini nm was dead by now if i remeber right) >> keep casting -gas till the big one is down (btw , Stonega II is so much better then the other nukes till this lvl).
1 run: we all died, forgot to turn aruond therefore we got paralze and petrfid (spelling Oo).

2 run: one of the blm/whm died, we won, no good drops.

3 run: no one die, no good drop

4 run: my orb again, i die, the other 2 blms take it down, we get utsi: ni drop (below 1m so i took it).

5 run: i die again (to much hate lol and weak taru def and hp =x), the other 2 blms take it down and we get charm drop ^^ (spilt gil)

My LS is planning on trying this as 3xBLU/NIN.

Buff up, eat a pie, drink yag drink, run in, each one takes an eye, and spams HB, Bludg, HB, Utsi, repeat cycle.

Once the two BLU finish their mobs then they help with main mob.

I'll let ya'll know how it goes.

how would BLU do

so how would a BLU/SMn do on this one? currently i have never tried this particular BCNM before from a lack of a good job to do it. Ive done Royal Jellies to hell with mnk and drk, my only two jobs above 40. I started lvling smn for it because i heard it was a decent job for this BCNM.

but now i wonder, how would BLU fair? Has anyone ever tried it?

Just did a run tonight with the usual set up of Ninx2 and Rdm. Just some comments ive done this BCNM about 20 times so far. 3 p charms, 8 erases, and 2 ni's. Here are the jobs that i can confirm work in this bcnm. Nin/blm, Nin/rdm, Rdm/nin, Rdm/blm, Blm/Whm, Smn/Whm, Bst/whm. Basically have your 2 ninjas backwards tank with ni nukes. Then you have your kiter. It can be rdm/blm/smn/bst. Rdm and blm use bind with ES and you can pretty much rest up the entire time of kiting. Smn and Bst just kite with your pets. Other jobs probably work as well im just confirming what DOES work.

Also on a side note...anyone notice a decrease in p charm drop rate? we use to get one every 1/3 or 1/4 runs. Course after reading these posts and have gotten 3 charms already, i should just keep my yapper shut and bow down to the p charm god o.o

/bows down...lower.

We were doing this with the usual setup of NIN NIN RDM, usually have no problems. We killed the first two eyes without a problem, and I was holding hate on the Sobbing Eye most of the time, so the other NIN decided to melee it a bit to help speed things up.

It was at this point that it started spamming some kind of massive heal, Osmosis or something similar. Each one was healing 400-500. We ended up running out of time.

I'm not sure what triggered it, but I'm guessing it was the physical damage, because in all the times I've done UO, it only did it the one time anyone meleed it.

Just a warning, don't try meleeing the Sobbing Eye.

BLM PAWNAGE!!
# May 19 2006 at 3:31 PM Rating: Decent
I can safely say that 3 blm/whms will pawn the heck out of this BCNM. In fact, we set the Ragnarok record 6 times last night. Super easy to do....our strategy:

Each popped a melon pie +1, buffed up with blink/aquaveil/protect/shell and each popped a yag drink for the run to the circle.

We got within casting range, turned our backs to the eye, targeted the Sobbing Eye, and cast Elemental Seal, Stonega 2, Thundaga and Blizzaga. Those three spells killed off the two compound eyes and took the Sobbing Eye down to less than half. We polished him off with Stone 2.

None of us went into red health and we all walked out with 100+ mp to spare.

In and out in less than 3.5 minutes. Didn't get the charm yet but we're hoping. SUPER easy BCNM if you got seals to burn.

Can confirm it dropped Utsusemi: Ni, Fire Spirit pact, Erase, Refresh and lots of Hecateye Eyes which made our taru alchemist BLM very happy. We each got nearly 2k in gil per fight as well.

Pay very close attention if you plan to do this with 3 BLMs, because depending on your setup it's not as simple as it's made out to be.

Very important thing, make sure everyone has the same sub...whether it be WHM or RDM. I'd recommend WHM because /RDM at that level you don't have blink yet.

My group died two times, and for two different reasons. The first time, the two of them were not in casting range, I attempted to run around to stop it but unfortunately Stonega II still went off, of course I died rather quickly, it became messy and that was wipe #1.

The second time we took special care to be within range. I called a time and we began casting. I told them to immediately cast Thundaga followed by Blizzaga as soon as the Stonega II casting animation allowed them to. Whether it be lag or something, they seemed to not do it immediately...whereas I was able to for whatever reason. This again gave me more hate and got me killed. The two of them managed to kill the Compound Eyes this time, but were unable to kill the Sobbing Eye. I died with 300 MP still, a complete waste, had I not drawn aggro with my faster casting I would have been alive and able to kill and win.

I partially attribute this to my /RDM and Fast Cast I, it doesn't speed it up much, but it does a little bit. This wasn't even really the issue though, its that they were slow to start casting the next volley of spells.

Another issue, I was a Taru, and I was also the best equiped...probably because I am actually lvl 42 so its my XP gear as well. I could see in the logs my nukes clearly did more damage than their, they weren't gimp by any means, but I was out nuking enough to focus hate on me at first, the my subsequent nuke would get hate on me again and get me killed.

I honestly believe BLM/WHM is superior here than BLM/RDM, on top of Blink you get Magic Def. Bonus which along with Barfira does actually help keep you alive. Hell even BLM/NIN is truly better than /RDM in this situation. Utsusemi protects you from the inital hits, keeping you alive long enough to get the Compound Eyes killed, any of the Sobbing Eyes -ga spells obviously rids you of your shadows, but as long as they're up to kill Compound Eye you shouldn't have a problem getting them up after a -ga spell, unless its Breakga of course >.>.

Just be cautious and take skilled people you know and trust, do not go into this thinking its a piece of cake, cause small things like I mentioned will cause wipes. Good luck and happy hunting for the ****.

I've been beating this BCNM with two rl friends for about 8 months now. We'd done it 25 times with no deaths, but no peacock charm either. In the past we'd gone nin/war, war/thf and rdm/whm. Since then I've taken my ninja to 40, so we had nin/war x2 and rdm/whm.

First fight went easy as hell, but crap drops.

Second fight (darksday now) it was a little more difficult, but still only one of us got into the orange and (once again) crap drops.

Third fight (still darksday) it was again slightly difficult as the Sobbing Eye spammed Breakga followed by Firaga three straight times, but we still won and Ni dropped.

Head back to Jeuno to pick up three more orbs, then back to Horlais' Peak. By this time it's Firesday, so the mob is actually easier (though still not the best day to fight it).

Fourth fight, smoothest of the night (only one of us ever hit yellow) and Peacock Charm drops! Finally! 29 times we had to beat this damn thing. We tried full moon, new moon, quarters, gibbous, waxing, waning, darksday, lightsday, killing the thing in the actual arena, killing it on the burning circle itself, subbing /thf for TH1, bringing 4-leaf mandra bud and lucky egg, etc etc etc. FINALLY.

Fifth fight, more difficult this time (he's mad at us because we stole his loot) and one of us actually hits the red, but no big deal. A quick Cure III keeps us whole, and the eye goes down as usual. Drops Erase this time - first time we've seen that drop in 30 (!!!) fights.

Sixth fight... didn't happen. The second ninja was still so excited (and high) that he lost count and Mijin Gakured out of there before we used our last orb. So... 1 PCC in 30 fights. 1 Erase in 30 fights, and probably a half-dozen Uts: Ni's. But in the end it was 100% worth it.

This BCNM is incredibly easy!

As someone here suggested, BLM/NIN x 3 is ideal.

We shattered the record on my server by about 2 Minutes.

Just takes lots of int, utsusemi, and a good amount of MP.

This is a Joke with 3xNin
# May 02 2006 at 5:29 PM Rating: Decent
This has probably been mentioned before but 2 of my LS mates and myself did this 3 times as 3xNin and it was a complete joke. The last time not one of us got into yellow for HP (had a couple hi potions handy just in case).

Have 2xNin/War and 1xNin/Whm. Head in and buff up. Nin/Whm takes the Sobbing Eye while Nin/Wars each take one of the Compound eyes. All 3 head in just out of aggro range and cast either paralyze, slow or blind to start off fight.

Nin/Whm runs down and up the long pathway. Nin/Wars seperate themselves in main battlefield and face away from the mob. Keep shadows up and go through your elemental wheel of Ni spells. When first compound eye is dead, have Nin/Whm bring the mob to main battle area. Seperate yourselves to avoid GA spells and just pummel it with Ni spells. Having nin/whm cast barfira is nice too as well as cure when needed.

Fight takes about 10 minutes to do.

3x BLM/NIN
Food not required.
1x Yag. Drink per person.

- Enter BCNM, Utsusemi up.
- Stand facing away from the mobs. Whatever happens, do not move. Stand as far away from them as possible whilst still in magic range.
- Cast Elemental Seal.
- Target the Sobbing Eye and begin casting Stonega II at the same time. Then Thundaga. Then Blizzaga.
- After the first 3 spells, the two Compound Eyes should be dead. Finish off the Sobbing Eye by any means necessary.

DO NOT...
- Move after started casting.
- Attempt to re-cast Utsusemi.
- Attempt to cast sleep or bind. They will be resisted.
- Most of all, do not panic! They will die very quickly if you keep to the plan.

Drop rate on Peacock Charm isn't great but it's worth a shot if you have seals burning a hole in your pocket.

Mana Burned
# Mar 29 2006 at 12:20 AM Rating: Good
Easyest way to do this is to manaburn it with 3 blm/whm. The actual fight takes about a minute. So far we are 3/3 on this bcnm with 2 ni drops. ES Stonega II ~> Thundaga ~> Blizaga ~> Stonega II. Done. Plan on doing it many more times, the linkshell is going to keep the charm drops to pass around to melees. Little risk of dying, nobody has gone into red yet.

Not sure how update will affect the manaburning of this but so far its the easiest way to get it done.

Well, I learned to kite for the first time today, after having done this BCNM 5 times in one day. They told me to kite and I was like ....... what? But it turned out to be faily simple, with Stoneskin and Blink up, any time the mob got within range (so I could recast Gravity), my SS/Blink absorbed any damage. All in all, rather easy BCNM ... had a NIN and a BST with me ... got Utsusemi:Ni on the fourth try, which (yay!) happened to be my orb.

I'll probably do this one again, but I still like Royal Jelly better. ~.^

Well seing as I am somewhat new to this game when my friend asked me to try this i of course said yes. I asked if he had done it before and he said no so i expected to die as you pretty much should going up againgst any unresearched threat. Well i must say I got a Huge laugh out of this. our setup was Pld/War <me> drk/war and rdm/whm. Well I knew we were all dead about 5 seconds into the fight (which lasted a maximum of 30 seconds). our rdm cast sleep on 1 of the hecteyes and it is resisted and they all come rushing at us. I provoke 1 and flash 1 and i notice the 1 i flashed has a differt name so i knew it was the harder notorius monster. by the time i swing my sword the second time firaga is cast and both the rdm and drk drop to around 100 hp the rdm tries to heal himself and is interrupted and panics and tries to run but barely take 2 steps before he is dead. the dark knight falls less than 3 seconds later and i still have over 500 hp. as i'm about to turn to attempt to run i'm petrified and forced to watch myself be brutally mangled by 3 enemies. Well i wasnt too upset, as i was of course expecting to die going in but not to that degree. it was pure ownage. We all had a good laugh and went on our way to assemble a party to get my af1. there i was of course brutally beaten to death once again but that is another story for another time.
There are other ways to do this
# Mar 15 2006 at 11:06 PM Rating: Decent
MY friends and I do this DRG/NIN , RNG/NIN, RDM/BLM
WE are 6/6 on this BCNM and have never come close to losing. The only drawback is that we have to use our two hours although it may be possible to do it without them we've never wanted to risk it since using our two hours makes this BCNM very easy. We buff up at entrance and RNG and DRG attack the same compound eye but before this RNG shadowbinds other Compound eye, while RDM kites the Sobbing eyes. Rng
Eagle Eye shots and Barrages the compound eye bringing it down to about 8% health while DRG jumps and Hijumps to finish it off. Then just melee the second eye. Ive never had trouble meleeing in this BCNM i just make sure to turn whenever the eye prepares to use it gaze. The only status effect ive gotten on me are paralyze and bind which don't last long Ive yet to get petrified. Once we easily dispose of the second compound eye we quickly move on the Sobbing Eye and DRG two hours and Double Thrusts to take off massive damage. Then just "Jump" "High Jump" and ranger "Barrages" again. A couple more hits and the sobbing eye eats dirt. Weve yet to get petrified. This is another way to do this BCNM i hope it helps ppl who don't have NIN at 40. Good Luck ^^

I have a plan but it will only work if the compound eyes are sleepable.

Everyone buffs o course. Blinks, via magic or blink bands and SAM eats a major str adding food.
Au laits, vampire juice, yag drinks and hi potions should be brought.

SAM uses an icarus wing

All go in, SAM>>>RDM>>BRD like a few feet behind each other. Switch to whatever you want.

BRD uses Horde lullaby, while RDM gravity, binds, and enfeebs the crap out of the sobbing eye.

RDM and BRD keep their ES up just in case they need to sleep one of the other eyes.

RDM goes and starts meleeing the big sobbing eye, whle SAM gets behind it for his SA.

SAM uses 3rd eye, SA 2hr, then engages the mob.
SAM stacks the first enpi with SA for major dmg spike, the WS chain will go like this unless someone has a better one they post:
Enpi>>>Enpi>>>MB, then a kagero, meditate, kagero.

SAM can keep using icarus wings once every minute for a SA Enpi.

RDM and SAM melee it to death, while BRD cast a few spells here and there. Neither RDM or BRD should let their mp pool drop below being able to use ES+sleep.

Then they batter one eye to death, then finish off the last one.

There, what do you think and can the compound eyes be slept?
RE: SAM/THF, RDM/BLM, BRD/BLM
# Mar 07 2006 at 4:43 PM Rating: Excellent
That would fail horribly.

1. One of the TP attacks from the eyes will Paralyze any player facing the eye. The reason NIN/BLM works so well is because they can spin the elemental wheel on the eyes while facing away from them; there's no need to melee. Being able to blink away the hits and single-target magic from the Compound Eyes is also a plus.

2. The Sobbing Eye is extremely resistant to Silence and Sleep (I believe). It will regularly cast Stun, Bindga, Breakga (AoE Petrify, doesn't matter if you're looking at it or not), and Firaga while using its other TP attacks. The SAM would get murdered along with any other party member within AoE. Having anyone melee is a bad idea because of AoE and Line-of-Sight TP attacks.

3. Icarus Wings are only usable once per hour.

4. Having both the BRD and RDM sub BLM means you're relinquishing Paralyna and Barfira, which is a bad move in this fight.

And this is why I like this place, I get results from those who have done it.

Good Lord man! Petrify without facing it? That's just not fair ; ;

Oh well! Just means NIN needs 20 more levels :/

I am trying to find a BCNM 40 cap to do that will make my friends and I gil.

The guy that would be doing the most sponsoring is a 43 RDM with every other job to at least 20.
I am a 44 SAM. Was kinda hoping that this would be possible with us so I can eventually get a nice piece of +acc gear.

Thank you for the help \^^/, however if you do know of a BCNM 40 that can be done by us please let me know, figure that we can get any job combos to come with us, but we still come. I have RNG at 35, so if neccesary I can go as that(yes, with NIN sub).

Doing this with Rdm/Blm, Bst/Whm, Bst/Whm.
The first time we tried this we went in and booth Bst took one compound eye while the rdm kited the sobbing eye. Fighting the 2 compound eyes at the same time resulted in a wipe. Paralyze and fire spells grilled us over time.
Since then we let one pet tank one of the eyes and kill the other one together, then the second eyes and finaly the sobbing eyes.
Sobbing eyes is very very easy after the other 2 are down. In fact you could say it's a win after the first compound eye dies.

That beeing said, great job Taritzu (Bst/Whm) and Kanash (Rdm/Blm)!

OK i shouted in jueno because i couldnt get anyone from ls willing to do this bcnm. Almsot imediately 2 adventurers answered my call! Keebs the incredibly tough BST and Rockdog The insane NIN.

All three times we went in as nin, nin(me), bst.

As soon as we went in the first time the big guy started spamming breakga and annihilated us. Only a minor set back. I had a wonderful PLD from ls named Allyandra she came and played clean up with our carcases. So we all get prepared and go in again with second orb.

NIN cast utsusemi:Ni and BST calls tiger pet. He runs in with us with no preperation and has tiger fight big guy. I run left and rockdog runs right and we tank the Compound eyes backwards on seperate sides of the arena. Within two spins of the ele wheel mine goes down. I get one more spell off on rocks and his goes down. Then we procede to rape the Sobbing Eye. We get just within range of nin magic and start wailing on it from oposite sides. While we do this any firgas this big guy gets off is remedied by the bst/whm(taru) who heals us. shadows back up we contiinue to wail on it since we are far apart only one gets hit with firaga at a time. big guy goes down and we open crate. Nothing.(Well something but going by its worth---CRAP)

We run through pond area back to the Burning circle and just before we go in Keebs points out that we set new record!!!! 5 min 23 sec!!!

Third round we do same strat and rape it again within 5 sec of our last record. Check the Armoury Crate...... CRAP!!!!!

So now every sunday on ifrit server you can find NEOLASTAT, KEEBS, and ROCKDOG hanging out and destroying some hecteyes.

PROPS TO KEEBS AND ROCKDOG!!!!!

NIN/BLMx2 + RDM/WHM is so unfair. NINs nuke the smaller eyes while the RDM braves the larger one. Elemental Seal+Jubaku: Ichi on the larger eye is just godly. With 2 NIN/BLMs, you can't really have one main tank; both NINs will have to take turns spinning their elemental wheels.

I've seen Erase drop from this.

This BC is very easy with 2 NIN and 1 RDM
first let the RDM take the middle eye kite it and each NIN voke the other 2 small eyes and face away to prevent getting their strong paralyze, just keep using ninjetsu element magic and you can nuke one eye at time or each NIN solo one whatever works, let the RDM bring the big eye, one NIN vokes it and face away, continue same ninjetsu element magic, the other ninja can engage and do some physical attacks from its back if the main NIN tank holding hate, Jubaku: Ichi seems to paralyze them good as it interrups their GA spells^^ NIN can 2HR for fun in the end lol, good luck!
