Battle Notes

To begin, trade 40 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Star Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Waughroon Shrine zone located in the Palborough Mines dungeon.

Be advised that only three players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 40, and that there is a 15 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, there will be 8 Princess Jellies spread out in an open ended circle that, once aggroed, will slowly begin to move towards the center of the room.

  • The Princesses will not deviate from their path towards the center of the room and cannot be slept by any method. Their motion can be impeded though with Gravity and Bind effects.

  • Besides the normal array of Slime tp moves, each Princess is governed by a single element that denotes what spells they are capable of casting, as well as what element they are strong/weak to.

    • The spells that the Princesses can cast are their respective element's DoT spell (Burn for the Fire governed, Bio for the Dark governed, etc.), their tier 1 elemental damage spell (Banish for the Light governed, Blizzard for the Ice governed, etc), and the Bind spell.

If any Princess Jellies reach the center of the room, they will "merge" into a Queen Jelly a more powerful version of the Princess Jelly.

  • The amount of hp that the Queen Jelly "spawns" with is based on the number of Princess Jellies that reach the center. (If only one Princess reaches the center, then the Queen will have 1/8 of its max hp).

In order to spawn the armoury crate, all mobs in the battlefield must be defeated within the allotted time.

Battle Strategies

One strategy involved for successfully beating this BCNM involves two heavy DD melee and one Mage, with the melee starting on opposite ends of the circle and working their way towards one another, with the mage curing and buffing the melee while debuffing/ nuking (where feasible) the Jellies.

Another very popular strategy involves a similar setup to the one above, with the notable exception of starting at one end of the circle, together, and work their way around to the other end, while the mage drops cures and bind/gravity on the Jellies. Usually, with this strategy, the Princess Jellies are cleared before reaching the inner circle, and therefore the Queen Jelly does not spawn.

PT set UP DRG/WAR WAR/NIN WHM/BLM<me>
buffed up ran in they attacked from the left moving right, i cast haste on both, and cures now and then, between caasting sleep and bind on the first 2 on the right, didn't get anything really good, but it was fun

It took my crew and I a while to get our rhythm on this but eventually we developed a solid setup. Setup was:

RDM/BLM
DRK/WAR
THF/NIN (me)

I cannot confirm my teammates' gear. For me:

Corrosive Baselard x 2
Thug's Zamburak
Merc Cpt Headgear, Belt
Federation's Gaiters
Noct Brais +1
Gigas's Bracelets
Iron Musketeer's Gambison
Wolf's Mantle +1
Beetle Earrings +1 x 2
Garnet Rings x 2
Spike Necklace

I preferred an ATT and STR heavy setup over typical THF build because ACC wasn't gonna be a problem. Plus I used sole sushi. There are some better choices for my setup but I didn't want to go to overboard incase the runs became too expensive.

We would go in, buff, start on right side (DRK and I), and just work our way around while RDM used Bind, Gravity, and threw an occasional heal on us. We never made it to finishing all of them off before the Queen formed, but she wasn't much for us to take out. Usually it was just one left to form so not much of a threat.

Each of the princess jellies absorb a particular element's damage. We were using the same SC on the jellies and there would without fail be one that heavily resisted and another that would heal worth the damage from the SC.

Of the dozen or so successful runs, we have had 3 Utsusemi: Ni scrolls, 1 Himmel Stock, and 1 Archer's Ring. We had various weapons and equipment drop, plus 2 slime oils and a stell item of some sort on every success.

Hmm... I didn't even know this dropped archers. Done it 7 times and never have seen it.

Anyway, it is my honest opinion that a White Mage will outdo a Red Mage in this. Why? Because the only thing RDM brings to this battle that a WHM/BLM doesn't have is Gravity. So they can slow down the last 2 jellys to give the DD more time.

But a WHM can HASTE both the DDs and thus finish the battle faster. Also, it's even better if your WHM already has erase for bind, but you can do without. I've tried different combinations... My worst one yet was with 2 WAR/NINs... it came close, but none of them got to the middle, so it was still easy. By BEST one was with 2 DRG/WAR. They tore them all to pieces. I've never even seen the queen, so I know that WHM works very well in the place of a RDM, probably better.

My strategy:

Ideal Party: Whm/Blm Drg/War x2

1) Food(before entering)/Protect/Shell/Blink/Stoneskin/Rest
You can skip the rest step for a better time if you'd rather just pop a yag drink. I used to cast reraise but I discovered it was wasting my time.
2) Haste the better equipped DD and move to the circle.
3) The DD should double-team and start working from the left to the right. I've tried dividing them up but it just didn't work as well.
4) The WHM should immediately elemental seal bind the rightmost jelly, and continue to bind that one every time the spell is ready (expect resists, but it shouldn't be a problem. You should kill them before it gets to the center anyway, just a safeguard).
5) WHM should haste the other DD as soon as possible.
6) WHM should pay attention to bind, or DD should notify your WHM of it, if erase is available.
7) Pop a yagudo drink when necessary.
8) For efficiency, one of the DD should switch target and move to the next one just before the previous one dies. Don't waste your WS when it's low on HP, obviously. I don't know about skillchains, but it might not be worth planning, since one WS will do so much damage alone, a SC might be a waste.

From there, just keep working around the circle, getting rehasted once if necessary, and whm should keep up on regular healing duties. If the WHM stands in the right spot, you should only be attacked by a couple jellys, and blink/stoneskin should take care of you, don't worry about healing yourself. The reason I favor DRG is not only because of their piercing damage, but also because their wyvern breath is not reduced by the jelly resistance, plus they have jump to attack even if bound. Generally speaking, even a bad DRG could pull this one off.

Hope that helps any of you. I played as the WHM myself, and it's nice that WHM can do a simpler one than Worm's Turn to get Erase. Much easier to organize 3 people.

Also, somebody was telling me that 3 DRGs would tear it apart before they even needed healing. I'd like to see that sometime. Also, since the jelly is always facing towards the center, I believe /thf is a very acceptable sub. Good luck all!

Actually, RDM has the smallest natural MP pool of the three starting mage pool. BLM has the largest, WHM the middle ground.

Would a Samurai with a capped Polearm skill be good in this? I've yet to try it, and my Polearm is 113 (needs leveled I know >.<;) Reason I'm asking is that Samurai, of course, has a lower Polearm skill than DRG.

I was thinking this due to Store TP trait, Meditate, & the Piercing type weapon. WS would be able to go off quickly.

yeah i know no one is going to belive me, but i don't care lol. Me and a good friend of mine tas just duo this bcnm. What jobs did we take you ask? Drg/Whm and Drg/Rdm. it was kind of shakey at first, i mean i've never heard of anyone doing this but healing breath worked out perfectly. Now as far as what job is better for this, can 2 darks duo this?

Please do not post about what jobs are good/bad for this BCNM without FIRST telling us armor they were wearing. DRK are not any worse at this BCNM than DRG. In fact when i do this, I am the one killing my mob before the DRG finishes his/her's off. I'm just asking that people don't generalize about certain jobs "holding everything back" or sucking. For a DRK to miss that much in a BCNM where the mobs con DC-EM, that must be one extremely bad DRK. With +11 accuracy (tilt belt, venerer ring, and mutilator scythe) and +14 DEX, i almost never miss in this BCNM. Please don't make certain jobs sound bad because of one player. It's not right.

No, DRG are better than DRK at this. I've never had a DRK beat a DRG in this and ive done it at least 9-10 times. Just like MNK is good against Undead for its type of melee, DRG is good against Jellies for piercing. They also have their Wyvern Breath attack and Jump to do extra damamge. DRK defense isnt very good either. I have had my friends Fatboy(DRK) and Delsol(DRG) go with me on this multiple times, I was the RDM, and Delsol always finished about half a mob sooner than Fatboy. Not a big difference, quite overlooked really. And who cares about gear?? Its a BCNM, we just throw on whatever lvl 40 gear we have laying around on and go for it! Have fun, quit ur cry'n people, it's just a game.

Okay... This is just a game. And i don't want to have an argument with people i don't know. That's just retarded. But I think that if DRG and DRK are really the noob jobs (as i believe is true.) Then DRG would have a better chance on this BCNM if it both aren't good players. But if you get a good DRK and a good DRG in this BCNM with same stats i think DRK would be better, if not more helpful due to stun/bind/bio2. Just my thoughts.

Drk is worse than drg for this. I have gona as both. My gear was actually BETTER on drk cuz i had just been lvling it up to 40 and drk has better str and att to begin with. I was still hitting for less dmg per hit than i usually do as a drg. Gear was exactly the same other than RS chainmail in place of generic leather armor and RS breeches in place of generic leather pants. In theory Drk should have performed better yet it did not. So therefor for this BCNM drg>drk.

Well, you see, the problem is every poor noob in this game has a 90% chance of deciding to be either a DRG or a DRK, and doesn't know why they should make money to buy good equipment. The benefit DRG has here is natural accuraccy boost, so you wont have to take as big of a risk when inviting melees.
easy and fun

Did this a ton of times as DRG/DRG/RDM Today. The only trouble we had was the one time we used DRG/DRK/RDM; DRK kept missing and slowed the whole thing down. However, with 2x DRG and an RDM this thing is cake.

We did 6 runs, 2x Archers 2x Erase and 1x Utsu. We used Your orb your drop, and out of my one orb, I got an archers! 4.5 Mil in my pocket.

I totally agree, did this with RDM<me> and DRG x2 and breezed right through it all 3 times. Key here is to have both DRGs start crushing jellies on one side of the room while the RDM binds and gravity the jellies on the opposite side to slow them down. Got some pretty good drops, main drops were:
Erase, Marksmans Ring, Mana Ring x2, and some other decent stuff. No Utsusemi though @.@; bugger. Otherwise, easiest BCNM for me so far.

Just did this BCNM.

DRG/WAR
DRG/WAR
RDM/WHM

It was our first time doing this BCNM for me and the RDM and it was the first time doing a bcnm ever for the other DRG.

Went in, got buffed, ate a meat mithkabob, rdm put up stoneskin and had a yag drink. I started with the mob on my left, the other drg took the right. Berserk>Jump>SuperJump was the order then we meleed till WS we killed them one at time till we down to the last 3. At the last 3, I begin to kill whatever mob was closest to the center. Last mob was usually far back away from the center. Anywho, we won all 3 times. No good drops though :/ I got 2 refreshes, steel sheet, 2 slime oils, marksman ring. DRG got marksman ring, mana ring 2 slime oils, steels sheet and some other things not worth mentioning. RDM got sealed mace, the lvl 39 BST axe, slime oil, steel sheet and something else crappy. Though it was a bit of a waste of seals, we had lotsa fun. Plan to do it again at next full moon phase.

our setup was me, (DRK/WAR) using sole sushi, THF/NIN (i can't remember which food) and RDM/BLM. We saw the queen 3 times, but each time it had about 1-2% health- no problem. THF would TA onto me, then i would voke so he could sneak attack. I casted Absorb-Vit to start each round because they arent moving i might as well get a spell in. Bio2 and the occasional stun were also helpful. The RDM didn't gravity at all, just bind and keep us healed. He used 2-3 yags per fight and converted. The THF would debuff the jellys with bolts and then just swing away. This setup definately will not get you records, but it is a very easy way to win. Wierd setups work in this BCNM. My LS has completed it 3 times in a row with a BRD, so almost anything works. Good luck to everyone doing this, I hope you all get as lucky as i did!

I hear all you saying you have not seen good drops in a while. I have done this BCNM 6 times, and the drops have been: Erase x1, Utsuemi: Ni x1, and Archer's ring x2. The first time i did it on my orb, i got archers ring and Ni, but gave Ni away to the others in my group because they didn't get anything good. And the second time we split profit 3 ways, so i still made 1.5mil. Overall i made 5.5 million off this BCNM in 2 sets of runs. Very fun ^^

Some friends wanted to try a BCNM. This one looked pretty easy, and I'd heard reports of great drops, so we decided to give it a shot. I've now done it 15 times since Saturday. Setup for each fight was DRG/WAR, RDM/BLM, BST/WHM. This party isn't going to break records, but I think it's pretty much a lock to win. Clear times were 5:05-5:50, and we never once saw the queen.

Despite the perfect record, this was basically a waste of seals. We got three scrolls of Erase in the first nine runs, and none in the last six. No archer's ring, no Utsusemi: Ni, no Absorb-STR. Our next best drop was a vile elixer. Most of the other spoils were sold to NPCs for near or above AH prices.

Another friend did this in a different group this weekend. They went 5/5 with one Erase and no other decent drops.

I don't think I'll waste another orb on this one.

# Jun 01 2006 at 8:38 AM Rating: Good
Myself and a DRG duoed this BCNM about 2 weeks ago. Not 1 but 2 times. The second time was actually easier (for me), even with the DRG not having Potions, or regen drinks.

I would do the standard prebuffs, rest, then basically, I would gravity the very last one the DRG was likely to fight (Gravity last a lot longer than bind), bind the second to last, keep the drg cured, used Dia2 on the one they were currently fighting, and use Bind/gravity when recast was ready on any Jellies that were of a threat to make center of the room. I did use Yag drinks both times, 2 per fight to be safe. I had to convert the first time, the second time I didn't. 3 of them actually got very close to the center on the second. Which might be the reason why I didn't have to convert. Because the first fight, I used DoT on all of them like Diaga, and Poisonga. I didn't the second time around, however I conserved MP not doing so.

To answer what another poster asked. Yes, they are very weak against piercing. And while I've never used MNK to do this BCNM, I've heard MNKs are actually quite terrible on this BCNM.

Why DRG? Is Piercing strong vs. jellies or something?? I know MNK is weak to them, but? I want to do this BCNM for some quick cash, and I've only got MNK and PLD. So my question is why DRG?
My drg is 36, if i really need it i can level it.
