Battle Notes

To begin, trade 40 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Star Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Waughroon Shrine zone located in the Palborough Mines dungeon.

Be advised that only three players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 40, and that there is a 15 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, there will be 8 Princess Jellies spread out in an open ended circle that, once aggroed, will slowly begin to move towards the center of the room.

  • The Princesses will not deviate from their path towards the center of the room and cannot be slept by any method. Their motion can be impeded though with Gravity and Bind effects.

  • Besides the normal array of Slime tp moves, each Princess is governed by a single element that denotes what spells they are capable of casting, as well as what element they are strong/weak to.

    • The spells that the Princesses can cast are their respective element's DoT spell (Burn for the Fire governed, Bio for the Dark governed, etc.), their tier 1 elemental damage spell (Banish for the Light governed, Blizzard for the Ice governed, etc), and the Bind spell.

If any Princess Jellies reach the center of the room, they will "merge" into a Queen Jelly a more powerful version of the Princess Jelly.

  • The amount of hp that the Queen Jelly "spawns" with is based on the number of Princess Jellies that reach the center. (If only one Princess reaches the center, then the Queen will have 1/8 of its max hp).

In order to spawn the armoury crate, all mobs in the battlefield must be defeated within the allotted time.

Battle Strategies

One strategy involved for successfully beating this BCNM involves two heavy DD melee and one Mage, with the melee starting on opposite ends of the circle and working their way towards one another, with the mage curing and buffing the melee while debuffing/ nuking (where feasible) the Jellies.

Another very popular strategy involves a similar setup to the one above, with the notable exception of starting at one end of the circle, together, and work their way around to the other end, while the mage drops cures and bind/gravity on the Jellies. Usually, with this strategy, the Princess Jellies are cleared before reaching the inner circle, and therefore the Queen Jelly does not spawn.

My attempt

My setup: DRG/WAR (me), DRG/WAR, BLM/WHM

DRG's had kabobs for food, BLM had melon pies. I brought 6 regen drinks (panama's) just in case (used 3) and the BLM had 6 yagudos (used 2-3 i think, lost track). BLM stood in middle and bound the jellies we didn't fight and healed us when we got low. DRG's went and killed each, one DRG on each side of arena and worked around. Went 3/3 with no queen spawns or deaths. We kinda joked around last fight and all tapped 2hrs just for the hell of it. Closest to death we came was other DRG got to ~50 HP and BLM had little MP left. Closest to queen spawn was the outside of the inner most circle.

NOTE- even with ES, the jellies still resisted sleepga. Bind worked very well tho. We mighta done it faster if the BLM hit the -ga elemental spells some.

No archer rings
1 Utsu:Ni scroll
3 marksman rings
1 Erase scroll
1 Ice spikes scroll
1 mana ring
1 buzzard tuck
1 refresh scroll
and some slime oils for all of us.
DRG FTW!

My favorite setup is RDM/BLM(myself) (WHM would probably be a better sub, for barblizzra, but I don't feel like leveling WHM... at all) DRG/WAR, RNG/NIN.

I've done this with several different melee classes(DRK, WAR, THF), but this seems to be the fastest, and safest way that I've done it.

First of all, Food. The mage in this won't be doing to much attacking, so the more MP the better. So I go with Rolanberry pies. With the Melees, I suggest anything that gives them +attack, as missing doesn't seem to happen a lot with this BCNM. So Meat Mithkabob for the DRG, Navarin(?) maybe for the RNG. (Not a ranger, don't know what's good for their power). Also I like for the Melees to bring some hi potions, just incase of emergancy. (I just like to guarantee we'll win) And 1 Yago drink per match (2 if you want to try and set the record.)

Next, Buff up fully. Give the two Melees Protect/Shell II. Then cast shellII (Don't need to worry about protect, as you should be avoiding direct contact with Jellys) Blink, Stoneskin, and I guess phalanx. then, allow myself to REST TO FULL MP. Very important. I also cast Barblizzard on myself as we go in, just incase I do need to use convert, It helps prevent bind, which they like to do.

Next, I direct 1 DD to take one row of 4 jellys, the other, the other row. I charge in first, as to get initial hate. Their magic does little damage to me, even after stoneskin and blink wear (though I'll recast it) I Bind/gravity the back two, then cast Diaga on Both the left and right back 3. Then I go up, and cast Die II on the ones that the DDs are currently engaged in. "IF" I have penty of MP, I'll go around and give the othres DoT.

At this point, there's very little for me to do, except keep the DRG healed (The RNG takes very little damage, as he's not close enough to take melee damage) and keep an eye on the back Jellys, as they're the only true risk of reaching the middle.

If your Melees have good attack equipment, and your Mage has a good ammount of MP, you shouldn't have any problems at all. However, if you do go in as a RDM, and you get to a point where you have to convert, make sure you have about 50mp still, because you're likely to have at least 2 DoT casted on you, and you run far enough away that they can't cast their Elemental magic on you as well.

I've only failed beating this once, the first time I did it, because I didn't know what I was doing, had to convert, and wasn't far enough away, and got struck by Thunder. The 2 DRKs got mowed down. Only had Queen Jelly form once with the WAR/NIN set up. And with at least 1 DRG, never had to convert, or had the Jelly queen form.

Anyways, I'm simply standing on the shoulders of people before me, just adding my own tweeks. This is a fun BCNM, as it is very unique. I've had fairly good success on drops too. In about 10-12 runs, I've gotten 3 Archer's, which sell for roughly 2.5mil on my sever.

(edit: The setup above is the safest, at least from my trial, but the fastest was easily 2 DRG/WAR. If you want to go for record time, I highly suggest 2 DRG/WAR. Best time I've got on this is 3 minutes and 50some seconds.)

2 Drk/thf + rdm/blm

Ok I saw the drk doesn't work well with this BC. Maybe if ur noob that may be the case.
We pwned it with ease. This was all of our first try on theis BC and rdm had gimp gear. Not one jelly hit center once we got rolling. The 2 drks traded hate with ws's and SA, and used xbow with bloody bolts for hp(drain is useless) and quick tp boost. Rdm used bind and grav, me and other drk tore through mobs. Always going with which is closest to center, (u'll take notice after plowing throught first 3 or 4). Rdm used one yad juice per fight and did need to convert.
If you do go as drk or have a drk in ur pt the only spells they should cast is stun, to help give rdm a lil more time on jellies that resist his bind/grav, and we took turns casting bio2 on mobs. I forgot to check moon so we only got one decent drop...Erase.
4/4 in one night :)

Did this last night with two LS buddies of mine, Lauaxeta and Cinamontostfunk. We were:

Lau - DRG/THF
Cin - BLM/WHM
me - THF/WAR

The key is to keep the last couple of jellies bound while you work your way through them. Pretty easy as long as they don't become the queen jelly. Got some decent drops, Cin got marksman ring, mana ring, slime oil x2, absorb-str. Lau got marksman ring, mana ring, erase, slime oil x2. And finally I got himmel stock, absorb-str, slime oil x2, ice spikes. On the fourth one where we split it all we finally got an archer's ring 2.1 mil :)

Good luck to all who try it. 2 main keys are use bind, and bring a DRG.

As WAR/NIN i got hit for 30 dmg, with berserk up and attack gear on. These things are probably ep-low dc at best. The only annoying thing is bloody bolts dont work on them, but acid does. I found WAR/NIN more annoying than helpful, since they hit for so little i would rather kill them quicker. Maybe next time i'll take my DRG out and pop some jellys. With my whyvern out im sure i could blitz these things.

I have done this bcnm so many times I cant count :S
First round was WHM/SMN(me, I just love /smn) DRG/WAR and SAM/WAR? dont remember last subjob... anyways I kinda fell inlove with that combo...
I dont WHM SAM SAM, WHM SAM DRK(DO NOT WORK, DRK kills too slow) WHM SAM SAM (The Queen Jelly popped with like 3% hp)
oh well gonna try WHM DRG DRG now, they prolly find out they dont need me >< meh...

Dragoons completely tear this BCNM apart. I recently did this with my LS 2X drg/war, 1X drg/whm. We used meat kabobs and carried high pots (though we only used maybe 2 total in all 3 runs). The /mage uses dia for HB while the three of you simply rip them apart. We went 3/3 setting a new record with each run. Another member of my LS Duo's this on a regular basis as 1 drg/war, 1 drg/whm. I plan on trying this combo soon.

Just got done doing this with WHM/BLM (me), PLD/WAR, and DRG/NIN. Simple fight, pretty straightforward. I'm using 1-2 yag drinks a fight, and the pld is using an Obelisk Lance. With the new pld auto-refresh, all he has to do is keep himself going, both melees fight same one, just go around the circle. I don't bother with bind or silence on the little ones, we usually get it down to just 2-3 before the Queen forms, at which point I ES Silence it. Cakewalk, We're 3/4 right now (First one was new to all of us), and going back to do it again.

Edit: Got too cocky, Pld switched to drg sub, bad idea. Without voke i pulled too much hate at the end, 2 jellies combined and slaughtered me, then work through the other 2.

this may be a very very moronic question but when you attack one of the jellies does it stop trying to move to middle to fight you or does it just contiue on ?

Just finished my 18th time doing this BCNM, 18/18 on it. I've gotten erase or utsu on this fight EVERY time, and got an archers the first. My one warning: no mnks. closest call I had was with a mnk/war and a war/nin, 10.5 min for the fight, almost had a queen 2/3 of those times.

now for the tragedy: did it twice today. Second time I get just utsu ni, first time though, I get 2 utsu ni and an erase!! didn't even know it could drop twice in one fight... The thing you should realize when doing this fight though, is that the scrolls, though they don't say it, are RARE. My party members passed, I lotted. We practically start crying as we see something along the lines of "You do not meet the requirements to obtain the scroll of utsusemi: Ni, you fail to obtain... blah blah blah" sad thing is I was doing this with an LS mate who would have sent me the scroll to a mule... each of the scrolls are going for about 1mil on Asura.

NOTE: the other 2 in my pt didn't get much, but for my turn it had just become Light day, and we got 3 drops in that one fight.... I always heard full moon was best, but this was at about 50%... I would think lightsday is the important part, unless this was a fluke.
Easy win

Did this with (me) RDM/blm, NIN/WAR, and SAM/WAR.
Each run took around 5-6 min, I didnt even have to use convert.

At start I casted grav on 1st on the left, the ES/BIND the 2nd to the left(this one dies last)
The melees start from the right after I casted Grav. After I casted those 2 spells I ran out of casting range til grav/bind was ready, and I would cast those on the next 2 in line. the 4 that I casted on are the only ones I would cast on cuz the others ones would die in good time.
w/e grav/bind was ready I would cast it on those closest to circle out of the 4 I wascasting on.
I messed it up

Ok, we're 2/3 wins (cause I f##ked up)and no good drops. The most we got was a peridot. Seriously I made only 35k off of this.

MAKE SURE THAT YOU READ THIS: I'm pretty sure this is just my stupidness showing but read this is you plan to do this and are rdm or blm. The queen jelly won't appear if none of them reach the center. Bind the ones their not fighting. I didn't know that. We woulda been 3/3 if it wasn't for me.
Too Easy
# Apr 10 2006 at 11:20 AM Rating: Decent
Aight... i've been doing this BCNM for the longest time ever... me and my buddies (5 of us totaly and we alternate, but im the only mage so i play in all of them :)) are prolly 30/33. only 3 losses and it was due to inexperiences (1 was the first time ever, 2nd was new drk (my RL friend) and 3rd was Same Drk thought nuking was cool and helpful). But we fixed him up and won 2/3 last night.

Setup: Blm/Whm(Me) Drk/War(Chubrock) Rng/Nin(Mystikangel)

Aight.. i know people say these jobs arent made for this BCNM.... I will go egotistical on you all and say i can use any 2 melee, including mnk/war. It doesnt matter as long as you have skilled players.

Strategy: I have a post a while ago about starting on opposite sides, but since the update, we changed it for melee to start on the same side (right) attacking the same jelly. Melee just goes around in circle smoking the jellies, picking them off one by one. Not much to it. Drk doesnt cast anything, rng just shoots away with holy bolts.

Blm/Whm has the tough job. I start off with +MP gear (Electrum Rings and Hairpin) then macro switch to +Int gear. I use Melon Pie+1 and 1-2 yag drinks each BCNM fight.

Enter, Start off with Protectra and Shellra. I dont use barblizzara... but maybe i should after reading some posts. in the beginning of the battle i concentrate on cure 1 on the drk and weak bind the first jelly on the left(weak cause im using +MP gear). After the +MP bonus is used, i switched to +INT Gear ES Bind a jelly then i use first Yag drink. i keep binding as soon as bind comes up. Now, here is the smart thing to do if your a blm... get hate on all the jellys if possible so melee dont get hit that much. What you can do is run in the middle in the beginning and run out... but make sure you keep yourself alive, if your a rdm, i wouldnt recommend this if you're gonna convert. Silence the Jelly that the melee are hitting so they dont use bind and a melee gets stuck in a position and cant move to next one. Melee Doing their thing while im curing.

We got the queen jelly (and usually do) but no biggie, Drk/war tanks, I Silence the Queen (it sticks if you got INT) and use another Yag Drink. Silence stops it from using ga spells like firaga blizzaga. But it will still use Fluid Toss and the other Fluid AoE. and thats pretty much the end of that. Keep HP up on the Drk. If things get bad, ManaFont and spam Cure2. Should always survive.

2/3 last night with 2 Erase Drops. Not too shabby. We always split 3 ways, non of that Your orb your drop... we in it together, we win together. Also helps that we trust each other since we've been doing this forever lol :)
--------------
I Think Rdm is a better choice than blm just for gravity... but, still very doable w/ blm (my rdm only 27 mehr). I havent tried with whm/blm.. sounds interesting and a challenge. Too bad i hate whm, not gonna lvl it past 37 unless i need to. LoL

Any questions /tell me on Leviathan. <<Take Care>>

Okay, this is a new update from my last blog since I don't usually have a drg availible for this bcnm, I improvise most of the time. Just did this thing with this set up:

Sam/war, Sam/war, rdm/blm. This actually works out. Not items needed except mithra kabobs for the sams and mage food for the rdm. The thing about this strategy is, that I almost died twice because the rdm kept trying to attack with us, which is strange. Just have the rdm heal only. Bind isn't really needed at all.

tachi>>> tachi = distortion. 2 meditate >>> distortion again. fast kills and half the time.

Still not as good as drg, drg, rdm, but at least it's an alternative.

Did this with WHM/BLM (me), WAR/NIN, AND SAM/WAR, easy fights. The jellies stay put and don't aggro, at least not physically, so nice.
Was bound a few times, but both melee were in casting range, so who cares, lol.
Fights lasted 5-6 minutes.
Brought a few Yagudo drinks.

Drops included:
Mana Ring x2
Himmel Stock
Marksman Ring
Steel sheet
many slime oils

Did this BCNM last night for the first time and loved it :) Set up was DRG/WAR DRG/WAR WHM/BLM, jelly weak to piecering so always good, and whm cast haste for extra speed :) (DRG friendly BCNM^^)

Buffed up before we ran in, barblizzara, shell and protect and sole sushi. Each DRG took an end and worked there way around to the middle with the WHM in centre binding and sleeping and just curing us if needed.

Did it 3 times based on 'Your Orb your drop' and we didnt get anything good ; ; got everything except the 2 main scrolls and archers lol but was fun and we know we can do it now so bring on next time :D Goodluck guys, was a fun and easy BCNM.

RDM/BLM, BLM/WHM, DRG/NIN

BLM Sleepaga the jellies, rdm buffs and cast blind and gravity on first jellie, Drg then engages this jellie. Keep repeating this untill ya whip them out. What does everyone think. If you know a very successful way with BLM/WHM or WHM/BLM.

Thanks

Did this last night for the first time, and overall its pretty easy. Party setup: RDM/BLM(me), NIN/WAR, SAM/WAR (atleast I think they both subbed war) I went in, stayed in the center for casting, Sleep got resisted almost everytime. Almost did need to use the juices(one yag drink and one grape juice per fight), and I definitely didn't need to even think about convert. Ended most fights with about 150 mp to just nuke the last mob.

Best part were drops: archer's ring and erase. I can finally keep raising my whm.

I just did this BCNM for my fourth time with following setup:
White Mage Celestial, sub BLM
Thief Kuraiko, sub NIN
Warrior Chiara, sub MNK.
Sounds like a weird setup, but we're 4/4. Two times the Queen formed (one jelly) but we managed to kill it easily^^
Today it didn't even come close... My Binds (I was the WHM) sticked very well^^
Didn't get anything worthwile until fourth run^^ An Archer's Ring...
Odd pt setups can work in this BCNM... it's incredibly easy.^^ Try it^^

I did this bcnm a few days ago with the setup:
Rng/nin(me), Rdm/whm, Drg/war. e only did two rounds, and we had no failures or deaths. Our strategy was:
- Rdm run in and alternate bind and gravity on each jelly.
- The drg and went around the right side killing the jellies, we used one to build tp, then used weapon skills on the next in line, until they were all dead.
- Key point for the rdm is to make sure your don't bind and gravity the same one, it's a waste of mp if your dd's are fast at killing.
- Another important thing is to keep barblizzara up, it'll save yoru rdm alot of healing.

For med's, the drg and I brought 2 hi-pot's each and food. The rdm brought 2 yag drinks and an ether if it got bad (which it never did).

Drops included:
2 archer's ring
1 utsusemi: ni
1 perdiot
1 goshesnite
1 Fire spirit pact
Other random beastcoins and items

Good luck to all who are doing this, it's really easy.

Did this successfully today three times in a row. Our set up was DRG/WAR x2 and a RDM/BLM. We all had done it before so we knew what we were doing. We just moved from right to left killing them off one by one. Not a single time did any of the jellies make it to the center. Decent drops, was hoping for an Archer's Ring or two though.

Erase x1
Utsusemi Ni x2
Shikar Bow x1
Grudge Sword x1
Steel Sheet x3
and a few Slime Oils

Eh, pretty decent drops in my opinion.

Okay, 2 LS mates and me decided that we wanted to do this one for some money, seeing as 2 of us, including me, needy a Hauby. We did this BCNM 3 times, and we got ABSOLUTELY nothing. It was the worst feeling ever thinking that we just wasted 120 seals between all of us to walk away with pretty much no gil. We did the "Your Orb, Your Drop" after we finished the three orbs but we orginally was going to split the profit three ways. The best things that dropped on my orb was, I think, Refresh (5k on Leviathian) and Dusky staff (10k on Leviathian). So yeah...

But, overall this BCNM is extremely easy. The set up we used was SAM/WAR (me) WAR/NIN and RDM/BLM. WAR/NIN tears this BCNM to pieces. The WAR and I took the 4 jellies on the right together while the RDM used Bind and Gravity to slow the other 4 down. The 4 on the right go down quickly. After that, we focused on the one that was closest to the center. I think it took us 6 minutes to clear this thing on our final run.

Heavensent wrote:
I've done this BCNM at least 30+ times, only losing the first one to work out a proper strategy. I'd safely call myself an "expert" at this point. My ideal setup. x2 War/Nin, Rdm/blm

When you enter, you have the rdm do protect and shell and let them rest full. Run to the edge of the circle and have 1 of the warriors walk in first so that the jellies fire off their magic on the warrior, instead of the rdm. You much go in a formation. The jellies move toward the middle at a slow pace. So this is what you must do to win.

The first warrior must focus on the left 3 jellies; fight them in order. The second warrior will focus on the opposite 3 jellies; on the right. I've done this with 1 war and a monk, thf, and rng (Post nerf), and we were successful, but it was a lot more difficult. Warrior or dark knight usually destroy the jellies pretty quickly.

So what does the rdm do? The rdm runs to within casting range of the back two jellies and casts bind on one of the jellies, and then casts gravity on the other. She then casts dia to help the warriors kill their jellies quicker, as well as cures on them. Usually, when I do this run, the only thing you need to bring is food, meds aren't needed. Beware, this BCNM is about killing things fast, so if you take your time too much, the princess jellies will turn into the queen and you'll be out of luck.

Notes:
-If one princess reaches the middle, it'll turn invincible to all attacks, so try to kill the other one who isn't in the middle before they can combine. Do not waste time fighting a princess if it's in the middle.
-Never stand between two jellies, they will both attack you causing you to get damaged further. This is especially bad if you are the rdm, so rdms shouldn't stand near near any jelly.
-Recommended gear and food. Melon pie for the rdm and sole sushi for the warriors. The rdm might want to bring some juice, but it's not required. The rdm should focus on wearing full INT gear, and MP in extra slots, warriors should wear no ACC, but full Attack and STR.
-Rdms and converting. There are a few things to remember when converting, you will have 1-3 elemental debuffs on you from the jellies, each giving DoT damage. Always do Stoneskin before converting. When actually converting, run outside the circle to the hallway so you can't get nuked by a jelly. Leave yourself a buffer of 50hp+ just incase.
-Always start the fight with the rdm giving you buffs and resting full. Shell is absolutely critical for this BCNM, and protect is pretty useful as well. LET THE RDM REST FULL. Do not believe anyone who tells you the jellies start moving when you enter the BCNM, this is false. The jellies only start moving when someone enters the actual circle.
-Full moon. Rumors are what this game thrives on, so I'll give out something that I can't confirm in any sort of way, but I can say it works well for me. I plan BCNMs around full moons, because I've noticed a drastic increase in the drop rate. Believe what you want, because I cannot backup my claims in anyway, other then personal observance.

This is one of the easiest BCNMs I think I've ever done. Sadly, I used to love BCNMs because they gave me a rush, but I've done this one to death and I'd safely say I've mastered it. It's fun to do and easy to win. Good luck to you, and if you have any more questions, feel free to PM me and I'll explain further. =D GL, and may all your drops be Archers!
Pretty easy

I'v done this BCNM with these jobs:

PLD/NIN (me)
SAM/WAR or DRG/WAR
RDM/BLM

The object is to not let the 8 jellys get to the center and combine to form the queen jelly. Each jelly makes up 1/8 of the queen jellys HP. So if 2 jellys make it to the center the queen jelly will have 2/8 of its HP when it is formed, all of the jellys can usually be killed before any reach the center. From my experience, when the jellys have made it to the middle, the queen jelly seems to go straight for the RDM (i guess due to hate build up from enfeebling).

Battle plan:

PLD and SAM go around killing jellys one by one, each takes it own. RDM proceeds to gravtiying/binding/sleeping all of the other jellys and the ones being fought if needed. RDM also has to supply cures (which is why i like to bring PLD cause they can cure themselves for a bit). Good drops i have gotten from 5 runs are as follows:

Archer's ring x1
Utsusemi: Ni x1
Erase x2

best setup as i see

rng/nin, drk/nin, blm/rdm

rng drk and blm each bind target on the opposite side of the circle and tear into the rest one at a time, DRK can ssist bind and with utsemi he wont take as much dmg along with being able to drain. we have only lost once out of 12 runs and that was with a blm that didnt tell us he forgot yagudo drinks.
help me out
