Battle Notes

To begin, trade 40 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Star Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Waughroon Shrine zone located in the Palborough Mines dungeon.

Be advised that only three players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 40, and that there is a 15 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, there will be 8 Princess Jellies spread out in an open ended circle that, once aggroed, will slowly begin to move towards the center of the room.

  • The Princesses will not deviate from their path towards the center of the room and cannot be slept by any method. Their motion can be impeded though with Gravity and Bind effects.

  • Besides the normal array of Slime tp moves, each Princess is governed by a single element that denotes what spells they are capable of casting, as well as what element they are strong/weak to.

    • The spells that the Princesses can cast are their respective element's DoT spell (Burn for the Fire governed, Bio for the Dark governed, etc.), their tier 1 elemental damage spell (Banish for the Light governed, Blizzard for the Ice governed, etc), and the Bind spell.

If any Princess Jellies reach the center of the room, they will "merge" into a Queen Jelly a more powerful version of the Princess Jelly.

  • The amount of hp that the Queen Jelly "spawns" with is based on the number of Princess Jellies that reach the center. (If only one Princess reaches the center, then the Queen will have 1/8 of its max hp).

In order to spawn the armoury crate, all mobs in the battlefield must be defeated within the allotted time.

Battle Strategies

One strategy involved for successfully beating this BCNM involves two heavy DD melee and one Mage, with the melee starting on opposite ends of the circle and working their way towards one another, with the mage curing and buffing the melee while debuffing/ nuking (where feasible) the Jellies.

Another very popular strategy involves a similar setup to the one above, with the notable exception of starting at one end of the circle, together, and work their way around to the other end, while the mage drops cures and bind/gravity on the Jellies. Usually, with this strategy, the Princess Jellies are cleared before reaching the inner circle, and therefore the Queen Jelly does not spawn.

If you go as RNG use an x-bow and holy bolts.

Jellys have a resitance to piercing and they are Dark mobs so the holy element hurts them a lot :)

The main job needed in all of them though: rdm/blm because of gravity and bind.

These combonations work in the party:

war/nin, war/nin...drg/war, drg/war...sam/war, drg/war...drg/war, war/nin...sam/war, war/nin... war/mnk (Gaxe required), drg/war

Jobs that don't help even though you think they might: rng, thf, pld, nin, drk, bst, and mnks.

mnks are iffy. I've heard this one done, but the rdm converted and got hit with magic, so the rdm died quickly. The mnk 2 houred and owned 4 jellies by himself before falling. failed.

some of you think that rng might work, but it doesn't anymore since the update. try to shoot at the right distance. You'll hit, but look at the damage you do. A warrior's axe does the same amount of damage and hits 4 times more than one shot from an arrow. You're incredibly slow and not a very good liability. It's do-able with a drg/war, rdm/blm, rng/nin though. Don't do rng/war because you'll miss more without both daggers.

My set up Sam/war (me), war/nin, rdm/blm.

In the beginning sam meditates, war puts up utsusemi, rdm puts up all the buffs. Then we rest in the the circle for a while and let the rdm get back his mp. After waiting quite some time (3 minutes), use food, and then we ran up there.

rdm's role: runs to the right side, binds and gravities the first 2, and then watches us to make sure we don't lose too much health. Healed the sam more than the war, but it's okay. When rdm drops to low mp, convert, heal and then continue process.

war's role: the beginning fight and provoke and warcry. Try to keep all the hate because the sam has more dd hate than the war at this point. When shadows only needed to be casted once in the beginning and 2nd time in the end. There's no need for more utsusemis or it'll waste time. Let the rdm heal the war. When you're down to the last 2 jellies, use the 2nd utsusemi because at this time, the rdm is practically dry of mp if you guys didn't kill fast enough. warrior's ws should knock off 1/8 life.

sam's role: Before running up, use 3rd eye. Always put up 3rd eye. It helps. in the beginning of the fight, use berserk and then tachi: enpi. Then you'll have more hate then a war w/provoke. Never SC with warrior because you'll do about 4-5 ws this bcnm and the warrior will only do 2. Afterwards, meditate. you should have meditate again after the rest. Then when you have enough, only do ws if the mob is 1/4 life or more. If less life, switch to the next jelly and use ws while letting the war finish it off. tachi: enpi should knock down 1/4 life by itself. Whenever you have tp, use it.

Duo possible?

Two of my friends and I have done this BCNM many many times as DRG, DRG, RDM. We clear the room flawlessly everytime, and I never need to convert. I could probably go naked and we would still win. (Not that I would. ^^)

Here's my question. One of my friends collects seals considerably slower than me and the other DRG. Is it possible to Duo this with DRG and RDM? We are thinking the problems are time/mp. I'm pretty sure I can keep him healed since I never convert in our 3 person runs. But how long does it take the jellies to reach the middle and form the Queen? I of course would keep bind and gravity on as much as possible.

Can this be duo'ed with DRG, RDM? Has anyone had to fight the queen? Could we duo it if it did pop?
RE: Duo possible?
# Jan 27 2006 at 3:24 PM Rating: Decent
no, it's not possible to just use 2 people. When you're fighting the princess jellies, each princess is considered to be even or decent matches. Sure, you can try it, and you will convert in the halfway point, but 2-3 jellies will unite together. By this time, the drg won't be able to take it on alone. 2-3 hits will bring him to half life, and you won't able to cure anymore because you've run out of mp.

Just wanted to point out that MNK is now a viable option for this BCNM if the MNK has Vampiric Claws (drop from the 'Tres Duendes' NM in the Aqueducts).

These claws have a great hidden effect (or maybe they are just great slashing weapons) against slime, are level 38, and are perfect for this BCNM.

We did this one this last week 5 times with WHM, SAM, and MNK (me) and had absolutely no problems with it at all. None of the Jellies even got near the center :-)

Our only problem was the drops were crap. 5 times and the best thing we got was one Archer's Ring... bleh.

We fought all 5 battles on Lightsday, I wonder if that was the cause for the crappy drops...

Did this 6 times today with my linkshell. our fastest clear on this BC so far was done with WHM/BLM DRK/WAR THF/NIN. we had the white mage jump in first so the vast majority of the spells would just bounce off the high mind and magic def bonus they get. DRK made an excellent tank and with the THF spilting sneak attack and trick attack the slimes died quickly. Since I was getting hit by the elemental debuffs I just used a yagudo drink, though I probably didn't need to I had enough MP left over. I kept barblizzardra, haste and regen up on the melees.

Did this tonight and the drops were C-R-A-P. I was testing the water with 2 friends and i got Phalanx (20k on our server, big woop) gems, some lame sword and a even more rubbish marksmanship ring. All in all i dont really consider this being a decent way of making profit, there are many other BCNMs out there that use less seals but provide more valuable/worthwhile drops.

This fight is also quite tough when you dont know what your doing.

You said it. If you know what you're doing, this is a cinch and easy money. Sure there are other BCNMs, but this one take s very little effort or meds to win.

2/5 on Erase alone on this one.

I just finished getting killed trying this BCNM for the first time. Our setup was a Sam/Nin (me), Drk/War, and a Rdm/Blm. I took the right while the drk took the left and the rdm went around binding and graving whatever we weren't fighting at the time. We killed about 4 of them (I think, I can't remember) when our rdm died, afterward he said that he had converted, I didn't notice at the time. After another jelly or so, the drk died and I was left against the others. I used my two hour, but it still didn't really help that much. I finally died with three jellies left. They didn't even get to the center.
Do any of you know where we went wrong? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

well one thing I havent tried it with a drk as a melee I"m sure it could work cause drk is a very strong job but these jellys are strong against dark magic also u should probably get a whm to do it instead of a rdm cause then the whm would have more mp and just have him keep curing and binding nothing else or else u will loose

I'm gonna say you failed because your RDM used his attack spells. A RDM/WHM has a limited amount of MP compaired to even a BLM/WHM. If you use a RDM and not a full WHM, I suggest Yag drinks and -ONLY- cure. My post below also has a very vague description of how we did it.

I did this last night with a prty of drg/war(me),sam/war,and a whm/blm and omg did we destroy these guys we go in and the whm gives us protect and shell of course then he rests, when hes done resting he gave us barblizzara and then both of us regen cause u do loose some health. we go in and I start soloin from the right and the sam from the left we kept wiping them out I was bound 1 time and the sam resisted everytime cause of the warrior sub and barblizzara. the last one almost made it in the circle and become a queen but the whm cast bind on it and then I pulled out double thrust and the sam used tachi:enpi and it was very dead I got utsusemi:ni on this :) we only did this once. this to me was very worth the 40 seals cause I made 2 mil!!

My first experience on this BCNM was tonight. Our pt set up was war/nin war/nin rdm/blm (me). Did the usual Buff, rest to full MP and go in. First one went relatively smooth and easy. Got Ni and a buncha other small stuff. 2nd run wasn;t so smooth. Almost got us a queen to deal with, but got the last one just before it slipped into the middle. Got Ni and Erase plus the small stuff. Third run was unbelievably easy. The DD's took em down so fast I didnt even have a chance to bind or gravity the last 4 in the circle. That run netted erase a gold beastcoin and the usual small stuff.

We went in just after 1am on darksday. The jellys rampantly resisted my bind/grav and sleep never did land. I believe that we had a harder time due to the day, but I would think it helped us all get good drops.

Finally the nasty economy will work in my advantage. Ni is going for 3.5 mil and erase for 1.5 mil. Ni will prolly end up in one of my LSmates hands, but with the small stuff I will still be over 2 mil for the run. Yay!

I did this as DRG/WAR DRG/WAR and WHM/SMN

Buff and eat food as soon as you enter. WHM can drink Yag if you feel the urge. Heal to full MP and cast Regen on DRGs. One takes the left, other takes the right and just go, meeting in the center. WHM cures as needed, DRGs Berserk, Double Thrust and Jump. Fastest Clear time on Diabolos:
Amrik, Mathodius and Yelena with 4:19. Original time was 5:26

Edit: Food we used was ATK+ Meat Mithkabobs. We were Hume DRG Mithra DRG Hume WHM. We've had Ni, Erase, Archer's and Himmelx2 drop for big ticket items. WHM didn't have Erase but now he does =)

Just did 2 runs on this BCNM and it was patheticly easy. Setup was PLD/NIN, DRG/WAR, RDM/BLM. RDM did bind sleep and gravity on the slimes going clockwise around the circke while me and the DRG went counter clockwise each soloing a slime. Each run took us about 5 mins. Only really good drop was an Archer's Ring but for the time and work involved, that's incredible.

IMO, I'd say this BCNM is the same difficulty as the dragon you fight to get rank 3.
Strategy

This BCNM is probably one of the best to go to for experience in these types of battles. I'm now 23/23 on this one, using pretty much the same type of setup. Every time I've gone in as RDM/BLM with 2 various melee jobs. Combinations such as SAM and WAR/NIN, SAM and MNK, MNK and WAR/MNK, and MNK and DRK have all worked while I've been the mage. Never once has a jelly made it to the center, so I have no info on killing the Queen. The strategy is rather simple: Enter the circle, RDM buffs the two melee with Protect and Shell, then Shell and Stoneskin for himself. Rest to full before entering the battle. Once everyone is ready, enter the room and engage the Jellies. Melee start killing from left to right, as RDM casts Bind/Sleep/Gravity from right to left. I usually stand at the outer ring of the circle straight in front of the hall. This allows me to have full casting range of all the jellies as well as Cure range for the melee. It's best to have these spells macroed with an /echo timer so you know exactly when to cast again, because you're going to need to - constantly. I've found it best to only worry about the last 4 or 5 jellies, because any competent melee should be able to kill off the first 3 or 4 without there being any threat of them making it to the center. This will also save the RDM's MP as well as allow him to keep focus on the ones that have a chance of making it. For food, the melee all used Sole Sushi, because having better Acc = hitting more = killing faster = winning. As a mage, I use either Melon Pie or Rolanberry Pie. This gives +2 INT as well as 25mp for Melon and 50mp for Rolanberry. I also take 2 Yagudo Drinks and use them in the middle of the battle, so I can recast Stoneskin and keep from having to Cure myself too often. This also keeps you from having to Convert, which in these types of battles is rather risky. The jellies cast elemental magic as well as enfeebs, so even though the RDM never actually draws his weapon, he will suffer a moderate amount of damage. Converting just as a spell hits you = one dead, very unhappy RDM. It is also essencial that you do not attempt this on Darksday. Both times we tried it, Bind/Sleep/Gravity were resisted about 30% of the time, and with a 30sec timer to recast, 30% is damaging. In these cases, we all had to 2hr and usually caught the last jelly just outside the center. Our completion time has always fallen in the area of 10-11 minutes, but we're not trying to break the record or anything, we just want to win. We've also done a few other BCNMs, including Creeping Doom and Demolition Squad. We're now 1/7 on Demolition and 0/3 on Creeping Doom.

incredibly easy BCNM and good drop.

just bring a rdm and 2 melee/nin
rdm bind sleep weight clockwise
melee DD counterclockwise

we did war/nin drk/nin rdm/blm
12run: 4 erase 1 ni 1 archer 3himmel...

if u recast utsusemi rdm dont hav to heal.
just use kabob because its cheaper and jelly are low evasion. rdm use 1 yagudo potion.
no jelly never reached the center with our set up.

now its up to you ^^

One way for this is to have 2 DRGs and a RDM each DRG kills a row of Princess Jellies (one goes left one goes right) and the RDM Binds and/or Gravitys the 2 in the middle/front because sleep doesnt work on them i believe. Each DRG SHOULD sub NIN for Utsusemi. Rarly should u die or need to use 2hr for Rdm should be using cure2 no cure3. When each DRG kills their respective 3 Jellies they take the top out once at a time. Hopefully they wont have reached the center by then. I hope this helped anyone who can only use DRG. You can use any melee just sub NIN and you'll do awesome i just prefer DRG because they're so Uber.

Lucky for me i got Utsusemi: Ni ~ b^^d

I did the BCNM yesterday, my first ever, four times, with complete success each time (Heck, I even got 1.1 mil in stuff).

Our setup dominated: DRG-DRG-RDM. The original organizaer was shouting for DRG or SAM but two DRGs answered the call and that was that. Two Taru's and I was the Elvaan (although the Taru was outdamaging me XD)

Our strat was this: Good food for strength, ProtectII and Shell II and go in. The RDM should begin to Bind and Gravity the Princess Jellies going Clock wise, which will be left to right. You and your melee friend should go in and attack right to left, same mob. Once he's dead, move onto the next. The RDM should heal when needed.

Other then the above, we didn't need anything else, it was a relative breeze. DRGs should bring Obelisk Lance since WS is pretty important (more TP per swing then Behourd) Just know if any of the Jellies go to the center it will become a Queen Jelly I believe, that didn't happen but it gets considerably harder I was told. Some of the drops here are excellent, Erase, Refresh, Archer's Ring, Himmel Stock, and it's so damn easy. Go for it.

We've been running this pretty regularly recently as WAR/NIN, RDM/BLM, and BST/WHM (me). Two other LS members have also shown up on occasion, as WAR/MNK and RNG/NIN. To date we are 14/15, only loss was when the RNG/NIN and WAR/MNK tried it for the first time (they both went after the same jelly, the queen formed, and they got pwned).

Total drops have been worth approximately 4.8 million so far, ie around 8k per seal. Not bad, not amazing. We've been sharing all the loot evenly, since that's the most reliable way to make sure everyone walks away from the BCNM feeling good. ^^ If folks can be bothered to show up with an orb, my feeling is that they should get some reward for it.

No Archer's rings in the 15 runs, I guess it must be a pretty rare drop. Loot seems to have been best when the moon has been close to full, but that could just be a coincidence.
Spells to cast
# Dec 01 2005 at 10:42 PM Rating: Decent
I have done this BCNM about 8 times with a rdm/nin, whm, blm, and drg/war. The whm/blm binds and heals, drg/war is DD, and rdm/nin doubles as DD and bind/grav, but does not cure at all.

Same strategy as everyone else but I noticed that two spells make a huge difference: silence and barblizzara.

My binds get resisted a lot even as a taru with +17 INT and +4 INT from food, but silence sticks everytime. Most of the damage done to the drg was from spells, so silence helps a lot( even stuck a silence on the queen).

The first try the melees kept getting bound, so i looked at what element bind is: ice. When barblizzara was on, the melees would resist bind about 75% of the time.

An easy BCNM, even for those with no experience. Good luck and have fun trying for the scrolls and archer's!

Some of us in my LS have been doing this BCNM occasionally hoping to get the erase drop. Yes, this BCNM is very easy to fight if you have 2 good DDs & any mage, although RDM would be best. Our setup for most runs was RDM (me), WAR, & SAM. We substituted SAM for another WAR - a LS friend after erase as well.

Strategy for us: I use yag drinks, while DDs use au lait drinks & sushi. DDs start on the right side, and work counter clockwise. I stay pretty much central so I can cure, bind, and keep an eye on everything. I bind starting with the left and work clockwise, but making the first one on the left a priority. Any mage combo can do this, but RDM also gives you gravity - a backup for when waiting for Bind. The wait time on Bind drove me crazy! And capped enfeebling doesn't exactly make this a breeze for you. There were times when it resisted, and times when a jelly was only bound for 3 seconds.

But we have won this thing every time we've attempted it, somewhere around 6-7 times, I estimate. 4 of us brought orbs last night, and mine was the first to go & I got the erase drop! :D Unfortunately, we didn't get any other erases to drop on the other 3 runs, but Utsusemi: Ni dropped on the 4th time. We also got Himmel Stock on 2nd run, which is going for about 200k on Unicorn, I think. So I got erase, the other 3 got to split the gil from selling the rest of the drops. But we plan to keep going back so the others can get erase for their WHMs.
2 DRG + RDM
# Nov 28 2005 at 11:13 PM Rating: Decent
This can be perfecly done by 2 capable damage dealers and a redmage, the mage cures when needed, and the three members hit the same slime. With this setup, i am about 12/12 , 1 DRG + 1 RDM and 1 DD (any will work i guess) If the damage dealers are capable enough the redmage doesnt loose time binding and can focus on curing.
