Battle Notes

To begin, trade 40 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Star Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Waughroon Shrine zone located in the Palborough Mines dungeon.

Be advised that only three players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 40, and that there is a 15 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, there will be 8 Princess Jellies spread out in an open ended circle that, once aggroed, will slowly begin to move towards the center of the room.

  • The Princesses will not deviate from their path towards the center of the room and cannot be slept by any method. Their motion can be impeded though with Gravity and Bind effects.

  • Besides the normal array of Slime tp moves, each Princess is governed by a single element that denotes what spells they are capable of casting, as well as what element they are strong/weak to.

    • The spells that the Princesses can cast are their respective element's DoT spell (Burn for the Fire governed, Bio for the Dark governed, etc.), their tier 1 elemental damage spell (Banish for the Light governed, Blizzard for the Ice governed, etc), and the Bind spell.

If any Princess Jellies reach the center of the room, they will "merge" into a Queen Jelly a more powerful version of the Princess Jelly.

  • The amount of hp that the Queen Jelly "spawns" with is based on the number of Princess Jellies that reach the center. (If only one Princess reaches the center, then the Queen will have 1/8 of its max hp).

In order to spawn the armoury crate, all mobs in the battlefield must be defeated within the allotted time.

Battle Strategies

One strategy involved for successfully beating this BCNM involves two heavy DD melee and one Mage, with the melee starting on opposite ends of the circle and working their way towards one another, with the mage curing and buffing the melee while debuffing/ nuking (where feasible) the Jellies.

Another very popular strategy involves a similar setup to the one above, with the notable exception of starting at one end of the circle, together, and work their way around to the other end, while the mage drops cures and bind/gravity on the Jellies. Usually, with this strategy, the Princess Jellies are cleared before reaching the inner circle, and therefore the Queen Jelly does not spawn.

Went 3/5 on this one with two guys in my LS. Our setup war war/nin drg/war and rdm/blm. The first try we did I d/cd and the war and rdm got all but two of them dead and they formed the queen. The next 3 we won without much trouble at all. On our last run of the night the rdm d/cd and the war and i got all but two of them dead and they formed the queen. When all was said and done we all made about 300k for 3 hours of "work".

This BCNM is easy after you get the hang of it. I was in the party with bartel. (see post below)I was the PLD in the mix so I kinda had us gimped. XD Anyway its not too bad to do. It would be best to have a RNG and another DD to get this one done a little faster. As bartel said the first run did get a little hairy but it was just the practice run. I wasn't the best DD for the job but using berserk, food, and equip to boost strength helped. My 2h came in handy when the queen spawned. The first time 2 jellies made it to the queen and that is when we had trouble, but my 2h kept me alive with only 28hp left. XD The second time only 1 jelly made it to the queen and it was cake. I used my 2h but it wasn't really needed. If you don't go with a strong DD pt then just bring some back up X-potions and Hi-eithers just in case. More DD would make it faster and the queen prolly wouldn't get a chance to spawn but it is doable. The drops are worth it so go try it out and have fun. ^^ we made about 700k in 2 runs.

Hey i was just after quick dvice, i am a war, so if i went in as war/nin with my friend who is a smn, when should they, if they should astral flow, and what else should i get as a job, any help would be appreciated thankyou.
RE: Help
# May 12 2005 at 12:44 PM Rating: Decent
I would say that the best time to use astral flow would be when and if the queen spawns. Its hard to say how well elemental attacks work. The jellies are supposed to be weak to fire but that wasn't the case last night when i tried this BCNM with Bartel again. I was spamming <Red Lotus Blade> and the RDM was spamming <Burning Blade> it was working well until we started attacking the 6th or 7th jelly. For some reason this one was absorbing the fire based weapon skills healing its HP. It was strange cuz other jellies didn't do this. Im not sure what to say about using astral flow because it seems that the jellies can absorb random elements. I have also heard that they like to absorb lighting based weapon skills and attacks. The best bet would be to use astral flow on the queen if 2 or more jellies make it to the middle. It really isn't need for killing the jellies by themselves. With a couple DD they go down pretty fast. I hope this helps. ^^ Good Luck

Just finished first attempt about an hour ago. Went in as rng/nin (me) pld/war rdm/whm. Its not as easy as it seems without a lot of DD. We killed all but 2 and still had a rather tough time with the queen. We eventually killed it with my 2 hr and ws. Hopefully the next run we do will be a little safer. We DID get an erase scroll however ^^

Second attempt went smooth as butter. Killed all but 1 before queen spawn, then a quick barrage killed the *****. Dropped a marksman ring and mana ring. Amazing gil for such an easy BCNM.

NOTE: Once you enter the bcnm, the jellies DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT begin to move in until you enter the circle and aggro them. In other words, cast buffs, utsu, rest, do what you have to do first, then go fight. This is a HUGE help.

Tore this up tonight 3 times. Setup was war/nin rng/nin(me) and whm/blm. Whm did the normal whm routine by keeping the war healed(i didnt take to many hits). Believe it or not, melee are your best choice in this fight. War was doing 38-45 dmg per swing (duel wield axes) and I was hitting for 55-60 with battle bow +1 and scorp arrows. I have a feeling a good xbow and some holy bolts might be better, but with these things healing from additional effect stuff I'm not sure. It might just backfire. Splitting up is a risk, the war and I just started from the left and worked our way around. All 3 runs we got the final princess jelly down an inch from death until it turned into the Queen. But by that point the Queen has so little HP one arrow and two swings from my war took her out. Easy *** BCNM and can easily be done hundreds of times back to back.
Maiden Run
# May 04 2005 at 11:20 AM Rating: Decent
Well, this is the first BCNM that I went on, and the Maiden Run didn't go so well. We had a WAR/NIN (me), BLM/WHM, and WHM/BLM.

First time through we were able to only take out 4 of the princesses, and were all killed by the Queen. The BLM couldn't do enough damage to take them out before the merge, and after it the -ga spells the Queen has were too much for the WHM to handle.

Second time was much like the first, except the BLM spammed Bind and Slow instead of damage spells to try and buy me enough time to make the rounds. The jellies seemed awful resistant to it, and we had a repeat performance of the first time.

Third time we had the WHM also binding with little noticeable difference. Instead of trying to fight the Queen at half HP, we ran.

So everyone left a little disappointed that night, but last night we tried a different combo. This time we had WAR/NIN (me again), SAM/WAR, and WHM/RDM and man did we kick some tail.

First time through we actually had the WHM 'tank' half of the princesses by letting him draw spell fire while the SAM and I concentrated on killing one Princess at a time. We managed to take out all but 2, the SAM 2-houred the Queen and we won. Got an Utsusemi Ni, Marksman Ring, Mana Ring, Fire Pact, some gil, and some slime(fitting).

Second time we tried some skill chains to take them out faster, but realized that they would actually heal the Princesses on occasion. Killed all but one and killed the Queen for another Utsusemi Ni, Dusky Staff, Ice Spikes, Fire Pact, gil, and junk.

Third time was the best fight, killed them all and had no Queen form, but got more of the same mediocre drops with no big ones.

This begs the question that maybe fighting the Queen counts for something more than taking out all the Princesses. I'll have to experiment as we decided this is going to become a weekly adventure. Anyway, great BCNM, great drops, everyone got what they wanted (I get to keep 1 Uts and forfeit my gil reward ^^). Just make sure to bring the muscle.

As i understand it, Blunt type damage has a damage penalty on amorphs... this means

Hand-2-Hand, club, and some others.

This is my second favorite BCNM, and it's fairly easy! We dealed out dmg fast enough that it flew by. Before you know it...you've used ten orbs. Wow!

My party combo was:
WHM/BLM (healer, very important to have a good one)
RDM/WHM (was able to stick enfeeb's without too much hassle)
SAM/WAR (did so much dmg that we were able to beat the record!)

Basically- experienced people and enough damage to clear the room before the Princess's make it to the inner circle.^^
Good luck!
Need a little help here.

Tried this 3 times with Mnk/War (me), Blm/Whm, and Rdm/Nin.

First run: Plan is Blm Bind the left side, I solo the first on the right, Rdm Gravities and Binds the 2 after mine, then melees the 4th one. BLM also nukes one as well.

Result: 3 jellies dead, Rdm and Blm dead, I zone out.

Second run: Same as before, but this time the Rdm and I duo a jelly.

Reslut: 4 Dead, Rdm dies, Queen forms, Blm and I zone out.

Third run: This time, Blm only binds and heals, Rdm gravities and binds, then after one dies, cast Gravity on another Jelly.

Result: 4 dead, 2 with less than 20%hp make it to center, Queen wipes us.

I heard that this BCNM called for Melees, but I only did 10-15 damage a punch with kabobs. The Rdm was hittin' harder then me, as well. Is there any change in the strategy we should use?

i set the record for this bcnm on kujata server, its not a great time but i do this bcnm exclusivly and i just thought i should post an observation, it might be posted already not sure,

first time i cast an elemental spell it hits, the subsequent times it will heal the enemies, AGA spells will damage one and heal the others, im blackmage so i was the healer it but i nuked 5 times with 5 diff spells and also used earth cursher for alot of damage. i have fought the queen mulitple times and shes still a push over aslong as u can put up the BAR spells before shes casts the AGAs

IMO the best party setup is blm/whm, ranger/sam and warrior/nin

Original message:

In my opinion, without a BST party, this is the least complicated BCNM40 and easiest.

I personally prefer [RNG] [RNG] [RDM}
and i'll tell you why.

Ranger: able to keep their distance and deal massive damage without downtime.
Ranger: Two IS better than one
Redmage: Can cast Bind AND Gravity And convert, if needed.(gravity works better than bind here... And i'm a rdm ^^)

This can easily be completed with other DD jobs, ranger just makes it so much safer/easier/faster.

Blackmage/redmage/whitemage can do this with ease, redmage is just the safest
and most versitile (Because of gravity and convert and phalanx etc.)

Rangers can sub almost anything and do well. the monsters like to spam spells so blinks will be worn off fast.
but ninja, warrior etc still works fine.

Redmage should sub whitemage so he can cast shellRA and BarFira plus divine seal can help a lot.

BLM sub Whm

whm sub BLM << Critical.... without bind your pretty much done.

----------The situation----------

There are 8 jellys along the wall of the arena.

Each slowly inching their way to the center...

It might be hard to picture, so This might help.

if they are successful, they will merge to one big jelly, which is bad bad news.

imagine Fighting 8 Even Match Worms with rangers or 1 Very Tough Jelly. you choose.

Its absolutetly critical that they do not merge, but there is a solution- Bind and gravity.

gravity almost completely stops them and bind slows them down about 50%.

these spells are Rarely resisted so Elemental seal isnt completely needed, but if your enfeebling magic isnt capped it would be a wise choice.

-------the Fight-------

after entering, go foward to the egde of the ring and cast BarFira and ShellRa and whichever buffs you feel necessary

the mage should pick one side, left or right and the rangers work the opposite side(the jellys are in a U shape, not a complete ring.).

cast gravity and bind on two different ones and then just stand there and let them spam spells on you, curing yourself and regen + curing the others.

you cannot move far away to ignore their spells, they can cast from a ridiculus distance.

once theres like 3 jellys left just keep bind and gravity on the one thats furthest back and there really isnt much you can do to lose at this point.

this fight should NOT require 2hr/yag drinks etc.

each jelly has about 400-500 HP. ranged shots with bow at that level should do 70-80 a shot, split shot does about 90-120 dmg and Barrage does roughly 250.

our fastest clear was about 6min 30 seconds.

---be careful of---

they spam burn, frost, choke etc.

and love to nuke with aero, fire, thunder. just keep shell up and this sould not be a problem.

do not move close to the jellys or they will hit you. they hit about the same as an Even Match... with phalanx On they hit 30-35 per hit.

I'd say one of the "Money items" drops 40% of the time or so.)

Utsusemi: Ni 3/20

Phalanx 4/20

Erase: 2/20

(Ni and phalanx dropped on the same fight once.)

Good Luck!!

Probably not

I'm going to guess no.

This BCNM focuses on killing time, and unless your WAR/NINs are very well equipped ( and I doubt it, if they are too lazy to just level to 40 ), they probably won't be able to lay the hurt down fast enough. Not to mention, WARs 2HR is not the most spectacular one around on mobs that are much higher level than you. More often than not...

WAR uses Mighty Strikes! ...
*whiff* *whiff* ...
*whiff* *whiff* ...
*whiff* *whiff* ...
*whiff* *whiff* ...
{Mighty Strikes} effect has worn off.

And don't even bother trying this with a heavily underlevelled RDM. Without appropriate gear / stats / level , landing {Gravity}, {Bind}, and {Silence} will be very unlikely.

DRG is the best job for this BCNM i would say. Their wyvern adds an extra fighter into the battle. Although I'm not a DRG, i say they do incredably well in this. I go as WAR/NIN with my razor axe and combat caster scimitar as weapons and i do awesome damage, the same amount of dmg as the drg. Weve gotten 2 erases, 1 ni, and 1 phalanx from the 8 times weve done this. I love this BCNM!

DRG is the best job for this BCNM

This is true I have done this BCNM with the following party:
DRG/RDM (me)

We have done this 6 times and owned it each time eventhough the second time we did it our RDM died half way through. He coverted as blizzard was cast on her. So that run would have ended bad but since I had kept my RDM and I have have soloed quite a bit I jumped into a melee/healing role and me and the other drg were able to finish it off.

Just wonderin.

I've beaten this BCNM more than any other. Me and my two static friends do this as DRG/WAR (me), WAR/MNK with a GAXE and WHM/BLM or WHM/SMN. We just buff up, war/mnk boots a few times, run in, start on the left on the same one, while our WHM cures and does an elemental seal + bind on the far right jelly. We don't SC, we just spam our WS. I got both phalanx and erase in one night.

Very easily done with any two strong melee and a mage with bind/cure. Bind isn't even necesary, but it helps.

Hi, i read several tatics to win this BCNM before going in and well it didn't work out well. So me and 2 others came up with idea how to beat this BCNM and it works so nicely, I thought i share it with you all.

First suggest of setting up. I used 2 RNG and one RDM. For first time having RDM was best thing with his convert ability. RNG choice of food whould be Rice Dumplings. It will up your damage output by +20ish per hit and as much jellys you will have to kill. It really helps. For RDM yugado juice, having refresh never killed no one.

Battle plan. easy follow the steps and you cant possibly loose unless RNGs got really bad gears. Once in put shell on all members, no protect needed (your RNG if your close enough for jelly to hit you, just move away) go to your left and RNGs shadowbind 1st and 2nd jelly, it will stick them for good period of time. As they say 2 are better then 1. use that idea here, seperating RNGs to each side dont work. Both RNGs should go to rightside (opposite of where jellyt is shadowbinded) and start killing them off together. for RNG i suggest subbing WAR. NIN sub dont help at all and if you have decent gear, you will not miss even loosing extra Archer's Knife. For RDM just heal. Our RDM gets so bored though fight he started leveling his weapon skill on one of jelly while we kill others off (yes it became that easy)

So far we got 2 erase and 2 phalax. about 9 fights in total and planning to keep doing it til we run out of our seals. Hope you guys have better luck on drops then we did. Happy hunting
Useful trick

Just thought I'd like to share ^_^. One useful tactic I use while doing this as a Whm/Blm is to stand near the middle and try to get aggro of any jelly that the melees aren't hitting. Normally I spam Dia II on all of them til they're all casting at me.

The idea, is that a mage's magic defense is a lot better than any melee's (and as a whm you have auto regen) so it'll save you a few heals.

Also, if you stand closeish to the middle, your spells will have enough range so that you never have to move. That way the jellies can spam bind on you all they want and it doesn't matter ^_^ and it keeps them from spamming bind on your melees hehe.

3 LS members and I did this battle 3 times last night. I was RDM/BLM, another was RDM/WHM, and the two melee were SAM and MNK (not sure on what they subbed, they were /anon. The RDM/WHM and the melee went in first. Melee started on the left, fighting each ooze together. Mage started casting Bind and Gravity from the right. They won and got Utsusemi, Ice Spikes, Dusky Staff, Steel Sheet, and some Slime Oil. I went in next as a RDM/BLM with the two melee and worked the same plan. Since it was my first BCNM, I made the mistake of standing too close to the ooze I was Binding/Gravitying, and got Bound and hit a few times, getting my HP itno the red. We still won without a death and got another Staff, Refresh, Mana Ring, Slime Oil, Mythril Coin, and a Steel Ingot. The other RDM got tired so I went in again for the 3rd battle, same plan. Won again and got Grudge Sword, Fire Spirit Pact, yet another Staff, and some Slime Oil. In all three battles, the ooze never made it to the middle to merge. All in all, a pretty good haul for about an hour and a half time. Divided 4 ways, we'll get about 150k each at a minimum. The best advice I can give for Mages is to heal as soon as you enter the circle after you cast Buffs. Unless you're going for the record, you have about twice as much time as you need to beat it, so make sure you have all the MP you can get. Using a Rolandberry Pie (+50 MP, +3 INT, -1 DEX if I remember correctly)and some Yagudo Drink (adds Refresh effect) will make all the difference in the world.

I've done this BCNM about 10 times with various groups and its not hard at all. I go as my rng/nin which from what i've seen will out damage anybody and my gear is decent. Scorpion arrows with a battle bow +1 do about 70 damage each hit and I hardly miss. I've done it with 2 melee's and a mage. Have the mage keep binding from time to time the last 2 on the right. rng shadowbinds the 3 on the right and then both melee fight starting from the left and ending on the ones they bound first. Nothing tricky in the middle of the fight but each Jelly has an elemental weakness, thats why certain spells will heal a Jelly, bearly hurt it, or do about 90 damage on an aga spell. I reconmend mages to not waste mp on casting but to keep throwing a bind at the last 2 while curing the melee's. Shouldn't need to use 2 hr. but it never hurts if you're going to bed anyways... hehe. barrage brings a Jelly down to half life. I reconmend not fighting on your own but both going after the same Jelly, its slightly faster and you can SC to make it even faster, and only one person gets the hate each Jelly so less healing. Other than that its easy and enjoy the drops ^.^

How well do you think 2 bst/nins or /wars and a whm or rdm would fair against these mobs. We have our jug out..unless we can charm a leech...then we have the rdm bind and gravity the first 2 while our jugs fight the last 2 as us bsts fight the middle ones....we can us pet food and stuff to to keep our pets alive. Do you think we would fair well. Our jugs killin two leeches while we kill the other 2 possibly killin them in double the time. Then at the end we each take one leech for ourself with the jugs. How well do you guys think we would fair?
RE: Bst
# Mar 28 2005 at 4:20 PM Rating: Good
They're Jellies, and I'm willing to bet that they're un-charmable because of the single-mindedness of them.

/NIN is usuable for dual weilded axes, it might help alot with speed of killing, but don't even bother with Utsesumi , because all 8 Princess Jellies spam loads (And I mean loads) of spells at you. By the time you've finished casting, all your shadows are stripped.

With your combo, I'd go with 2BST/NIN, and a RDM.

Summon your jugs, and have both BSTs attack a jelly, and send your jugs on a different jelly (both the same, like you two fight jelly 1, and the pets fight jelly 2, then alternate, etc etc.) and leap frog over. The RDM will need to cast bind and gravity on the opposite direction that you start.

all 8 Jellies are in a circle and slowly move towards the center- so you and your pets go clockwise, and the RDM will cast counter clockwise, tossing cures and regens on the two of you, if you choose not to bring Au-laits.

That's my advice. If a DRG/WAR, PLD/WAR, and a WHM/BLM (with alot of +int gear to help Bind) can do this, I'm sure you'll rip through it with that firepower.

Two friends and I kept doing this bcnm. It's a nice (and safe) change of pace from Steamed Sprouts - I think getting hit by Drown is preferable to getting hit by Flood ^^;

Our setup was Drg/war, Rng/war, Rdm/whm

The Jellies do move slowly towards the center... I tried meleeing from in front of them, but that doesn't slow them down. Actually, it might, they just move really slowly and the first time I killed it, the second time i got bored -_-.

It should be pretty apparent, these jellies are not 'normal' jellies. They cast magic, but do NOT (that we have seen in 8 runs) use any TP attacks; no fluid spreads, or any of that.

I do recommend one rng in the pt; bind can be a killer (potentially) and the jellies do cast bind quite often. On two occasions I was bound long enough that my rng friend finished his jelly, killed another one, then started on a third -_-;

That being said, I'd also recommend a drg/war. My rng friend admitted that i was out damaging and out killing him on this bc... If i am bound, then no... but if i am not bound... I will typically kill 4, and help finish his 4th. I think when he started using scorpion arrows, things evened out a bit more. For rngs: jesus, Fang's and irons are fine... silver and up if you want to be pimp and make less money.

Lastly, although you do want to maximize dmg output, you don't need to go psycho crazy with it... save yourself some money and invite a mage for healing (gravity and bind are nice, but I would not say essential). Getting hit by DOTs and elemental spells does add up, as does melee dmg. A healer is cheaper than potions =x If you have a rdm, I'd suggest simply going from one side to the other, and not alternating as one poster suggested (i do not see how this increases travel time for the jellies....). For efficieny sake, your rdm may wish to convert towards the last 2 or 3 jellies, and it's nice if he can do it far away from the jellies...

With our setup, we beat the record, and set it (on his orb... damnit =P) 4:18 on seraph. Records stick around after tally, but probably do get reset eventually (maintenance perhaps).

As a side note, you CAN duo this bcnm... my friend the rdm was overexcited, and traded in his orb before i zoned into shrine -_-;;;;;; so it was just him and the rng... they used their two hours, and it got a little close, but they did it without queen forming.

Edit: As I said, not 'normal' jellies... so stick to melee attacks, quite effective. We'd heard rumors that casting 'Thunder' would heal the jellies. On one of runs, our rdm cast stoneII ( i believe) on a jelly and healed it for ~93 hp (gee thanks...). I would not advise using magic to deal dmg on this bcnm, as it is possible that the jellies absorb magic dmg (it's not clear if they can all absorb any elemental spell, or it's direction based, or what... really don't planning on wasting seals to find out). So... just a word of warning, a -ga spell party might be in for a real nasty surprise. It's possible smn might face the same problem (no smn in our LS at a level that can try this, and we wouldn't bother wasting seals anyway =P). This is one of few bcnms where, IMHO, a bst or smn is not at all helpful (in the way that they normally are for bcnms)... this is probably the intent by SE (and a nasty, counterintuitive trick ^^ ).

real easy bcnm, we killed the jellys so fast that only one was left by the moment it reached the center of the rooms, amazingly it transformed into the queen jelly but its hp was almost 0, the party setup as strange as it may seem was mnk/war, rng/nin and myself war/nin, just got a couple of potions for everyone and one pear au lait for each of us. got a good drop "Erase" ^^, and some other rings , so its totally worth it.
