Mission Orders

You have volunteered to journey into the Phomiuna Aqueducts to defeat the minotaur. It appears that Nag'molada has set off ahead of you.

Walkthough

Head to (J-3) on the second map. The Minotaur awaits your party there at the end of the hall. Once any member of your party or alliance aggros him he will draw in the entire party or alliance, so take extra care not to do so until everyone is ready. A common strategy is to have one member of the party who is good enough to avoid aggro on the way to travel to the Minotaur alone so everyone else will be drawn in without having to waste time fighting other mobs along the way. It is highly advisable that everyone bring plenty of holy waters, since the Minotaur will use mortal ray and often, not to mention that other Taurus mobs will also use the same move in the event that you end up fighting them. You will not receive a cut scene after defeating the Minotaur, so quickly move out of the room since he will respawn in about ten minutes.

Note: If you leave the zone at this point before completing the rest of the mission, you will have to defeat the Minotaur again in order to complete the mission.

Once you have defeated the Minotaur, head to the Iron Door at (G-8). The Iron Door can be unlocked by either a thief with thief's tools or a bronze key, which drops from the fomor mobs in the area. After passing through the Iron Door, proceed to (C-8) and check the Wooden Stairs. A cut scene with Nag'molada will occur. After the cut scene, climb the ladder and follow the hallway to reach a room with oil lamps. Along the way to the room, you will encounter two taurus mobs in the hallway. It's a good idea to fight only one at a time since they are quite formidable. On the other side of the door, you will encounter a party of fomor mobs, so have sneak up before opening the door. Once inside, go around the shelving and hit the ??? to open a hidden door. This leads you to the candle room.

The candle room puzzle is dependent on the current Vana'diel day. Two torches must be lit at the same time. The torches that must be lit depending on what day it is are:

  • On Firesday, light Fire and Ice
  • On Icesday, light Ice and Wind
  • On Windsday, light Wind and Earth
  • On Earthsday, light Earth and Thunder
  • On Lightningsday, Thunder and Water
  • On Watersday, Water and Fire
  • On Lightsday or Darksday, Dark and Light
Once the proper torches are lit, go through the hidden door at the western wall. Open the ornate gate and check the second ornate gate for a cut scene. Return to the Tavnazian Safehold and talk to Justinius to complete the mission.

**IMPORTANT**

After many many deaths and wasted time, I want to repost the correct way to get the final cut scene so more people do not have to waste this much time.

After going thru the iron gate and climbing the wooden ladder, go down the LEFT passage!! There are 2 taurus so take precautionary measures. Next click the ??? on the RIGHT side of the library to reveal a door.

~good luck!
Just Trio'd it
# Jul 19 2006 at 2:33 AM Rating: Decent
Me and my two LS buds just trio'd the Minotaur. Set-up was SAM/WAR(me) PLD/WAR BST/WHM. The BST charmed a VT slime oil and went after it while we waited to get drawn in. At the fight the BST, slime oil, and I lined up on one side while the PLD kept aggro without engaging on the other side while looking away. The fight was much easier that expected. It got more difficult afterwards, after the fight and after the cutscene, the guide doesn't mention that you need to take the left tunnel at the top of the ladder. We had 2 deaths in the fomor room on the right we both had RR but it's pretty hard to raise there since they aggro'd to sound and low hp. So we're going to go back and finish that part another time.
Even with the glitch...

This fight is easy enough, found the mob at J-3 (as stated above) and got drawn in, BST/WHM/NIN/BRD/WAR killed it easy enough.

I got through Promyvions earlier this week, and got Lufaise Meadow access. Soon my static will be waundering around the Aqueduct looking for that Minotaur.

When someone aggro's it the whole alliance is pulled in I heard, so be careful the mages are buffed before you fight it.

its my understanding that in the hallway with the Oil Lamps there is a door in the middle that leads to the Ornate Gates. after the version update our ls decided to do 2-3 and we got to the hallway and the hallway that leads to the Ornate Gates is already open and the second gate inside is "Firmly Shut". anybody have this problem or have any advice to give on it? we got cs with Nag'molada at the wooden ladder after killing minotaur. seems that we did everything right just something is wrong. thx

Just did this today with a pick-up alliance of 13 people. The main tank (PLD) and the only veteran of this mission found her way solo to the Minotaur, although she did accidentally aggro a Stegotaur and we were fighting that too when drawn in. Had about 3 deaths, no biggie, raised and moved on.

We spent the next 1-2 hrs trying to get to the Ornate Door.

What we had all failed to know beforehand was that one, we would be turning left from the ladder that yielded the cutscene with Nag'molada. That was easily figured out. The kicker though was that there were multiple ???'s in the library. We happened to click the wrong one, which opened the back passage. We had all went through, therefore, we were all stuck.

After much whining and more research, we were able to drop down so we could get back to the pickable Iron Gate, suffering some more deaths along the way by Oil Slicks who noticed our Sneaking errors. We found the correct ??? by trial and error, leading us into the tunnel with the oil lamps, and thus reached the cutscene desired so we can get the hell out of this place.

So to lessen the time you have to spend here, first, the correct library is reached when you go through the left tunnel from whence you climbed the ladder after the cutscene. The correct ??? is on the rightside of said library; you'll have to go around the shelves to reach it. A door on the right side will open, revealing the lamps. Had some of the people in our alliance been more patient and less filled with stupidity, I could overlook a certain pretty important fact that was omitted in this guide. But to not know that certain ???'s leads to rooms that the only exit is to drop in the holes and go up again... yeah. Cause a lot of headaches. Props to PLD for doing her best to get us all through. :D

He had about 50% accuracy on my NIN.

And I didn't buy any really special gear for 40 cap either.

Strangest party setup ever?
# Nov 21 2005 at 6:21 AM Rating: Decent
Well, after defeating the minotaur previously with small alliance (9 people) we had to disband and regroup for the last run at a later date.

None of our members had a key for the gate, and Fomors just didn't seem to want to drop any. So, we came up with a plan. The party setup was as follows.

40 SMN/WHM
40 NIN/WAR
40 RNG/NIN
40 WHM/BLM
29 THF/NIN (me)

I had brought my THF along purely for its lock picking skills (no one else had a THF levelled enough to bring along, and I had already gotten to the Iron Gate solo in a previous attempt). Utsusemi helped save my *** from the nasty Mow attacks the Stegotaur's used (eats 3 shadows to absorb all damage) and the RNG and SMN acted as our DD.

It didn't seem to be going that well at first. We pulled aggro from all three Taurus' in the first main room we entered (Thank goodness the bats in there don't aggro!). After wiping them out (They check as DC for Lv. 40, but IT for my 29 THF) we continued on to the Iron gate.

At the Iron gate a Steg waits for you, and he's pretty much unavoidable. Its a narrow corridor and you can't slip by him without getting aggro. We had to fight.

Despite a few Doom-related mishaps (used up a LOT of Holy Waters and even those failed to activate before Doom kicked in sometimes) befalling our NIN and RNG, and despite having accidentally dropped down a hole forcing a return to the library room this party setup was actually a winner for us. Don't try this at home unless you are a qualified nutcase though.

Finished this last Sunday (WOOT!) I have to say it went very smoothly for the aqueducts.

Our pty/alliance setup:

Pty 1:
Lyrah (me, RDM/WHM)
Shapelesschasm (PLD/WAR)
Odofakyodo (WHM/BLM)
Pyke (BLM/WHM)
Darbelisk (SMN/WHM)
Pand (BRD/WHM

Pty 2:
Firesoul (THF/NIN)
Janou (SMN/WHM)
Hudey (BLM/WHM)
Briandaman (DRG/?) - picked up while seeking out minotaur

We decided to use 2 ppl to go seek out the minotaur for the "draw in" method. We decided on Pyke (BLM, previously fought minotaur, & in case escape was needed) and our tank (Shape) since he knows the area pretty well from previous JSE hunts & who better to engage the minotaur first?!

The first time they went, they got taurus aggro & had to escape out, but 2nd time they got to the last taurus room, where shape went ahead to the last hallway to engage the minotaur & pull everyone in.

Minotaur was very easy for us. I guess we got very lucky b/c we only had one death (DRG) near the end. WHM did use benediction during 2nd half. We saw the Minotaur use "Mortal Ray" but our tank must've turned around b/c he did NOT get doomed! /cheer In fact, no one ever got doomed, we just had to worry about AoE damage & poison.

Best advice here is to have your tank pull the minotaur to the corner, that way it helps in having it face away from everyone. Make sure to have mages stand way back b/c we had a few who didn't & made a bigger curing job for me & WHM. It seemed to be pretty weak to magic attacks so BLM & SMN do a pretty good job here.

After killing it, walk to the end of the hallway, staying out of taurus room to rest. I think the minotaur respawn is at least 10 mins, but don't want to take that chance, esp. if anyone is weak, etc. Once everyone was full HP/MP, we sneaked up (since we were mage-heavy, this was pretty easy, I think our few melees even had oils too). We got really friggin lucky & got all 10 ppl up the ladder & away from ledge w/o the nearest taurus turning around. WHEW!

THF picked the lock at the iron gate & we fought the stegotaur inside, pretty easy. Once we climbed the ladder, we picked the left door, but stayed inside the room, and AWAY from right door. Our THF pulled the first stegotaur (there are 2 in either hallway) and this fight was pretty ugly. We lost our WHM during the second half of the battle. Luckily we finished it ok & WHM reraised himself. After resting & weakness gone, THF pulled 2 stegotaur which went down much easier.

Sneaked up everyone & went down hallway past the fomors. Good thing no one had fomor hate, but we sneaked just to be sure. I guess it sort of paid off to have a few people who had just recently beaten the 3 promys & hadn't had time or knowledge to fight fomors. :P

Click on the ??? to open up the candle room, it won't say anything or give you any sort of CS, which confused a few ppl. This part pissed me off b/c the guide above was wrong about the candles. THERE ARE EIGHT, NOT TWO!! One candle for each element. Pick one person (leader, etc.) to do the searching & selecting the right ones, otherwise too many people will keep clicking wrong ones & it could take you a lot of time & trouble. Sometimes the WRONG wall will open up! You want the one to open up on the SAME SIDE as the candles. As long as one person gets in, it's fine, they can open it from the other side, clicking on the ???. Go through the two doors to click on 3rd for CS.

Here's where having BLMs comes in handy. Since we had one in each pty, we just escaped out of there. You could make do if you just have one, but they'll have to D2 everyone, switcheroo, not the most efficient way of course. But if you're w/o BLMs, you're SOL & you'll have to get out the long way, risking death warp ><.

Pyke gave me a really good link for COP mission guides that you might find useful when doing this or other missions. I found it was very thorough & informative, while giving some nice screenshots to look at. Other than obvious screenshots, it doesn't give away much plot, which is nice for people who like to hear about the plot from the CSs, instead of pty members who blab about stuff like when some people gave away the ending to Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince (GRR!)

Here's the link:

http://promathia.runtimerepairs.com/index.html

Good luck w/ COP ^^
