Description

First talk to Equette (I-9), you should get a cutscene about a sea shell.

After the cutscene travel up to the second floor of the Safehold and locate Anteurephiaux at (J-8). Quest should be in the quest log now.

You are now to travel to (K-12) in Misareaux Coast there should be a ??? at the coast. After examining the ??? a NM Crab named Bloody Coffin will pop (about 3x bigger then other crabs in the area). Its job is RDM, it will cast Regen, Enwater, Paralyze, Haste, and Diaga II. I solo'd as a 75 RDM, it's a toughie, it seems it has a phalanx that can't be Dispeled, also Shell IV (Proven because Spirits Within @ 100% TP only did 37 damage) (Enspells also only did 4-8 add affect).

After defeating it examine the ??? mark again and get a Key item, return to Anteurephiaux at the Safehold now.

After the cutscene with Anteurephiaux, got back to Equett, You recive a Momento Muffler as a reward.

Managed to solo him as DRG61/WHM30, the whm sub was definately needed. The biggest danger of the fight for me was losing my wyvern since my wyvern has lower attack delay than me, she would tend to have a higher chance of hitting while its defense was down, thereby grabbing aggro quite a bit - I had to Spirit Link mid-fight to keep her alive. I finished the fight with ~20-30 mp left out of 117 max.

As has been mentioned its def drops when it uses a spell or ability, so save your ws for when it is doing so.

Siever is right, this guy drops his defense when he casts and uses abilities. Soloed him as a 72War/nin.
Was evading most of his attacks so was able to keep utsusemi up, but when he did hit me, would hit me for around 40 with a fish mithakabob. I took 2 pear au laits for regen. I would hit him for about 15 damage each swing, but when he casts/uses abilities, I would hit him for 50.
Would Rampage for around 150 with his defense up, 500 with it down. So just save nukes and WS's when he uses spells and abilities.

Wasn't sure how tough this thing was going to be so I let my first Funguar jug pet fight it alone. He got it down to about 1/3 HP in 6-7 minutes before dying, then I just called another and joined in to finish it off. It was a walkover, I could probably have finished it with one jug if I'd fought alongside it from the start.

57RDM/NIN
AF Hands, Boots
Scorpion Harness, Evasion gear used after MP drained from MP+ gear (EMP hairpin and such to replace Gold Hairpin)

This thing treated me bad. I probably could have kept toe to toe with it for days on end, but I couldn't damage it to save my life. I'm dual wileding Wise Wizard Anelace (sp?), so my attack is +28. Had to use Chainspell after my defensive spells were cut through like butter. More than likely, this would be possible to solo if you have a few hours to spend trying to beat it to death. Unfortunately for RDM, it's difficult to do damage. Eventually I ran out of MP and died a very quick death shortly after.

The only good thing that came from fighting this thing were the evasion and sword skill ups I recieved. I also managed to get sword up to "Spirits Within" so maybe I'll try this again when I hit 60 and have all my AF gear.

Oh, another note: Thunder Elementals pop very, very close to the ??? point that spawns this NM. Be careful to clear the area or wait till they have gone away. I'm also no sure if the Crimson Knight Crabs link with the NM or not, but I cleared them first to get my TP up. GOOD LUCK!
Repeatable Quest?

Weird question to ask, but....

Is it repeatable? The muffler is consumable item, which means it will eventually run out. Three options - Either it is crafted into a Muffler again, quest is repeatable for another, or you just plain run out, and have to buy it off another person. Kinda shysty if you have to buy it off someone else again.

I solo'd this at 68SMN/34WHM... with just myself and teh carby. ^.~

Having a free Carby helped of course, Poison Nails + Sunburst (Compression SC) helped, and towards end of fight when carby looks to die run a distance until Carbys life meter turns just to his name.. wait for it to disappear which means he vanished.. resmn him and he'll auto run to mob to finish him off.

Yeah, very easy to solo as a Summoner. I'm a 57 Summoner and it's easy to solo. Well, easy and long too. lol But most fights are when you're using the Carby method.

Spirit Withins

From my knowledge Spirit Within can't be block by def, nor it's magicial.

Only time I can ward of spirit is by Invicible showing Spirit is a physical attack.

what was your HP when u did spirit?

This guy drops his defense when he casts and uses abilities. Try and use weapon skills then, you'll see a big difference.
