Battle Notes

In order to enter the battlefield you will need to bring a Moon Orb, which is obtained by trading 60 Beastmen's Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno. When you are ready, trade the Moon Orb to the Burning Circle inside Qu'Bia Arena and choose to enter the battle Celery.

Up to 3 people may enter and you will all receive a level 60 restriction. You have 15 minutes to win. You will fight four NM ghosts:

Strategies

They correspond to four cardinal damage weaknesses: Slice (Scythe, Greataxe, etc.), Piercing (Arrow, Dagger, Lance), Blunt (Staff, Clugel, Hand to Hand), and Magic. Knowing this trick, it's not a hard fight unless your WHM gets baned, in which case more than likely you're headed for a dive. Bane, for those of you who don't know, is like Curse 2. The NMs will use Bane instead of Curse like ghost types usually do. Note that bane has a wide radius is AOE, and cuts your max hp/mp in half. If you don't stay on the very edge of casting range you will be hit. Also, if it starts casting ancient magic, just run, don't bother trying to stun, we didn't land a single one.

an easy win
# Feb 23 2008 at 11:20 PM Rating: Decent
this was our setup and how it went

RDM/WHM <--- me
PLD/WAR
WAR/NIN

We had the paladin attack pull Shredded Sampson and use holy circle then either me or the pld hit it with banish to weaken it. Then they both start working it down while I provided healing and buff spells (silence refused to stick), if it started to use ancient magic I ran in and used the appropriate bar spell just in case the spell went off. Cursna can also make or break this fight since it will probably use bane at least once. I was over in under 9 minutes doing it this way.

Just got done 3 runs on this BCNM. 2x MNK and a PLD. We lost our first run, only because we didn't notice a Stonega III and failed to stun it. The other 2 we completely annihilated Mauled Murdoc. About 2 minutes for the battle, 5 minutes to pre-buff(PLD Cast Pro/Shell 3 on all of us and had to rest for MP each time).

I just did this one 3 times, 3/3 with 3 bsts. VERY simple with bsts, its probably impossible to lose. you can literally win naked. Just wait 2 min for fanguar timer. Elusive earring dropped, it makes me jealous looking at the posts above where elusive is like.. 6 mil. Its only 400k on alexander :(

These ghosts have a very nasty trick.

Me (PLD), a DRK, and a RDM just did this bcnm last night. 3 orbs, 3 wins. It was mostly a rousing success, except for something very unusual that happened.

About halfway through the second run, all of a sudden Shredded Sampson turned to the drk and would not budge, no matter what I did to try to regain hate. It took at least 5 provokes and 5 flashes (not to mention an invincible that might have been Paralyzed, I'm not sure, because the animation went off and the recast timer started but nothing else happened), a Vorpal Blade or 2, and having the drk turn his back on the mob, before I finally got hate back. The drk swears up and down that he did absolutely nothing to warrant this, mostly because I had told him before the fight to watch his hate output.

I remember the last time I did this BCNM was with a drg, and the same thing happened that time. Unfortunately, we were not so lucky on that occaison: the drg died and the fight was lost.

The third time through with the drk, we expected this to happen, so the drk immediately turned around when Sampson took an interest in him, and I regained hate easier that time.

We decided that only one thing could explain this.

Remember anticans?

Their sand trap move will make a fool of any tank, because it stuns the pt and also resets the hate of the entire pt. Of course, the mages are out of stun range, so there's always one casting and he always gets hate immediately.

We figured that these ghosts have a similar move, only more insidious. We figured that the ghost will randomly reset the hate of the person who currently has hate, but not the rest of the group. In other words, all the hate that the tank has carefully built up is suddenly gone, and of course, the DD in the party has built up a pretty large hate pool of his own that remains unaffected... which could easily mean a dead DD if you're not careful.

So be aware that this can happen, and has happened to me a total of 3 times now. It can easily mean a botched run if things get out of control.
Curious....

Hey guys, im a mnk60 looking to make some money. I was wondering if this BCNM is at all doable for me.
I mean people have told me i could, but i have looked thru entire list and have not seen ONE post of someone with a mnk in their pt.
If you know please let me know, and tell me which one to fight and explain to me this fight. I am still a little confused, there are 4 NMs but you only fight one that you choose? Please reply and let me know ^^

Did this one about 3 weeks ago. Here is the story.

Party was pld/war (me) sam/thf and whm/blm. Did the usual, buff, meditate, foods, etc. We weren't trying to break the record, just win the fight. Picked Shredded Sampson, and I moved in behind him. Our Sam did Meditate a 2nd time, then SATA right off the bat. I did my usual tank thing (provoke, sentinel, flash, defender, etc) White mage kept us well healed throughout the fight. When the ghost tried to use Burst, I hit him with Shield Bash and Flat Blade, which I had been saving just for this. Interrupted him with no problem. Got hit with Bane once, but everyone had brought Holy Water, and we were back up quickly. Sammy died with no probs, 3/3 that night. (Only lost hate once to our sam, and I took care of that with Cover) Got decent drops, including Elusive Earring for our Samurai, Mea ring, and about 2 mil worth of other items. Our whm (Zev) acted as quartermaster, and we split the profits evenly. (Our Samurai even gave us both 400k to offset his keeping the Earring, thanks Azimov)

Next time, I'm going up with my in-game wife, Meowphttphtt, as drk/thf and our best friend, Fireman, as rdm/blm. This guy is a snap! If you have the seals and a good tank, there's no reason you can't ace this BCNM.

EDIT:
This was even easier with drk/thf and rdm/blm! Same style, picked Shredded Sampson again, drk (Meow) did SATA on me to open, rdm (Fire) kept me refreshed and hasted. Got a little hairy at times when I had paralyze on me and provoke wouldn't fire off. But that could have been taken care of with a rdm/whm. Anyhow, every time the drk's TP was 100% with mine, she'd get behind me, Trick Attack off of me with Guillotine, then I'd follow with Vorpal Blade for a ton of damage, plus Impaction, I believe. An added bonus to a drk is Stun to aide me in stopping the Ghost's Ancient magic attacks. And in an emergency, rdm can pop Convert for extra MP and a well timed Chainspell. This has become my favorite setup, and we're now 8/8 with it. Just have to get some more seals now... :)

This bcnm is a joke lol.
setup bst/whm bst/whm bst/whm

3 bst use fungy jugs on Anthony, stand at the doorway and maybe reward pets one time. No deaths, about 1.8million in drops over 3 runs this morning. If your bst, just wait till 3 minutes pass on your call beast timer, just in case. None of us even had to engage mob pets did all the work, finished each run in about 6 and a half minutes.

Thf/Nin
Pld/War
Rdm/Whm

I was the PLD and I went and bought a Bloody Rapier (rapier class gets piercing advantage like dagger). We fought Punctured Percy. Each had 1 orb and we got...
2 Elusive Earrings
3 Dem Rings
The usual junk

I am 12/12 on this. Thought I might as well share my strategy since it hasn't failed yet.

Job setup:
Sam/Thf (preferably) but any slashing type DD with thief sub will do.

Rdm/Whm (preferably) but Whm is fine as well.

Nin/War (preferably) though others have confirmed that Pld will work as well.

Strategy:
Take food before entering. Enter and let Rdm give out all according buffs, sam meditates right away, and nin casts Utsusemi: Ni naturally. Rdm rests and recovers mp while waiting for Sam's meditate timer again. This can take awhile but it is worth it seeing as how you are more likely to win.

When Meditate is almost ready again, line up behind Shredded Sampson. Let Sam SATA ws onto you, go around and meditate again for a quick SA ws from behind. Mage should be close enough to cast cursna but far away enough to be safe from Bane. If you want to be safe I recommend bringing Holy Waters. Other than that, just have Nin keep hate. That seems to be the hardest part of the BCNM since it's very straightforward.

Make sure to line up correctly because Sam missed me completely one of the runs. He died right afterwards but Rdm and I duo'd it for the win. Anyways, good luck and enjoy those elusive earrings.

Edit: Any DD job with thief sub is ok, however, I chose Sam/Thf because of SATA ws at start and because Nin and Sam both have slashing weapons which Shredded Samson is weak to. If DD dies you still have chance to win. Also, don't try to land any spells on it besides Dia. Most likely you're gonna waste MP though Rdm once got paralyze to stick much to my surprise. Ok that's it.

Went into this BC the other night. I managed to get a nin and a rdm (me being a warrior) to come along. RDM had orb, nin didn't but since the nin was coming we decided to give him 1/4 of the drops. Anyway, we get there and the rdm goes first. Drops were average, being harp, all 4 cloths, hi pot tank, both abj, and a crummy jewel. My run comes up and we get the same drops. Now at this point I'm loving how easy this BC is. We had holy waters for Bane, nin was doing a great job tanking (I would sometimes yank the NM, Shredded Samson, because my attacks did about 120ish each hit) but all in all did ok.
I ask the rdm and nin if they want to do one more since I have about 250 seals saved up. They say sure so I head to Jeuno. I get my tele Vahzl and start making my way back when I see a Shadow Dragon. Hmm, EP, I'll go ahead and kill it because it's looking at me funny. I get it to 1% and die. HP to Jeuno, get another tele, try and extract my revenge on the dragon but alas, someone has killed it already. Anyway, I head back to Qu'Bia Arena and everyone's excited to do it again. We enter the arena and immediately start ripping up Samson. He tried casting Flood on the nin but a shadow took that spell down. Then he turns to me.
Shredded Samson starts casting Burst on Ziegus.
"Oh Sh*t"
And then I remembered burst takes a crapload of time to cast and luckily my utsu timer was free. I cast, boom, burst is no more. I Rampage one last time and Shredded Samson goes down dropping the 4 cloths, random jewel, both abj, teleport mea ring, and OMG! Elusive Earring! Needless to say we were all screaming in joy. We split the Earring three ways and got about 800k each and I made a bit of profit from everything else. Despite dying to the dragon that night was very fun and enjoyable and I think I found the perfect team if we ever want to do Celery again ^^ I'm also the very proud owner of some Ambrosia now lol. the rdm is 99.1 cooking d^^

also drops Gold Ingot. Still surprised that Silk cloth isn't on the list since 1 Rainbow and 3 Silks are all but guarentee'd drops. Done this 6 times and always drops those 4 cloths in addition to the other misc items. The earring still eludes me though.

We went in with this setup: PLD/WAR (me), DRG/something (forgot to ask), and RDM/WHM. We went in 5 times, succeeded 4 times. We wiped the first time due to the DRG somehow getting massive hate that I couldn't get back, but the next 4 times went progressively easier, and by the last 2 we had it down to a science.

Apparently the guaranteed drops are 3 silk cloth, 1 rainbow cloth, and an oblation and libation abjuration. By the time we were done we had:

1 elusive earring (6 mil on Fairy ^^)
A stack of silk cloth
4 rainbow cloth
3 teleport-dem rings
1 teleport-mea ring
2 hi-potion tanks
1 mythril ingot
Assorted gems, 3 total I think
4 each of oblation and libation abjurations, which we promptly dropped for inv space, and
My knightly mantle, which was the reason we went in the first place (/hurray!)

We were all good friends, so we assigned someone to sell all the items and then split the money evenly.

Now for strategy: This is a very easy BCNM, but if you go into it expecting to not have to do any work, you'll get wiped. It's not THAT easy.

You should have a tank, a rdm or whm (depending on the tank) and any DD, even a blm. If your tank is a PLD, then a RDM healer would be best, for refresh and the occaisonal convert; otherwise, bring a WHM. Melees bring plenty of holy waters to get rid of Bane, and make sure your healer knows to stay out of AoE range. The healer should also have Paralyna ready at all times, because of Ice Spikes (paralyzation ate my DRG's Call Wyvern once >.<)

This ghost does not hit very hard at all, maybe 40-50 dmg each swing, compared to an exp mob's 70-110. The chief dangers are Bane, Bio, and ancient magic. It's just going to be a long fight, he seems to have a lot of HP.

Anyway, good luck, this is a fun fight.

This fight is stupidly easy with the right set up.

We went with:

DRK/THF (me)
PLD/WAR
WHM/BLM

Did 4 runs, 2 for me and 2 for the pld. Whm wanted to save their seals for something else. The fights went extrememly smoothly (except the 3rd run)

We fought the one most left, as it is weak against sharp weapons.. Open with SATA onto the PLD, then accumulate tp. When you have like 110% use TA + Guillotine for a nice deal, the PLD can close with Vorpal Blade for a nice SC. But then go behind and use SA.. Souleater is nice to use for the WS, but drop it because the mob uses "Bane" which is a strong Curse move. 1/2HP, 1/2MP and movement speed down. And if you got Souleater up with max 500 life you aren't going to last long. Last Resort is a nice one to use just before WS. Guillotine can deal from 600-1.4k (I did 1.4k with Souleater up)

One of the problems is when you get a ghost that wants to spam ~ga and AMs. With AMs the PLD should run out of range. But this is an opportunity for you to generate a lot of hate, as you can hit for 200+ per swing. Although they don't hit hard, they have all the moves a normal ghost would have, maybe a few more. I don't know.

The PLD went first and got like 500k in drops.
I went second, got earring, around 4mil in drops. (Earring is 3.5mil on Fairy D:)
I went third got Kukri and Mantle.. 1.5milish in drops.
PLD went last and got Mantle.

We did "Your orb, your drop" so I came out with a good 5mil+ in drops^.^; I was happy.

Yeah. Sit back and laugh at how easy this is..

Good luck
easy win

RE: whats better
# Oct 25 2005 at 8:38 PM Rating: Decent
If your going as drg then you need to take other people with piercing type weapons or your going to have a realy long fight on your hands. Unfortunately this pretty much limits you to rng as your second DD or another drg. As for your mage they should sub whm or blm for mp, the ghosts have this bad habbit of spamming silence.
I do this with friends all the time, we usually go as:
nin/war (me)
drk/thf
whm/smn or blm
smn is the best sub ive found since aerial armor will the drk if he pulls hate, either way mage needs to stay back.
Easy and worth the seals

Just did this for the first time last night.

Party:
War/nin
Drg/whm - lost 2hr in about 2 minutes lol
Whm/blm

I brought 4 yagudo drinks and ate sole sushi. Whm I believe had 4 yags and 2 super ethers. Went in, buffed up, everyone put RR on then we picked Shredded Samson. Supposedly Punctured Perry is weak to my lance damage, but from the posts I read here it could turn out to be bad. Plus I had a sword on me incase my damage got gimped against Shredded. I was hitting for mid 70s occassionally 90s with polearm. The fight was pretty straight forward, I kept paralyze off me and war which helped a ton, plus the little bit of healing I could throw at him when needed. Fight took around 12 mins? not sure we were just shocked we even won. The WHM died once when it was around 25% life (healed too fast) and then the WAR died at the very end literally one hit from death. All in all was a great fight, well worth the seals and easy to find the jobs for it. Our drops only totalled 890k tho :/ . Can't beat free money though. Good luck to any who do it, I would suggest sticking to Shredded if your anything but blunt.

I'm about to do this BCNM, but I was wondering, for all you who have done this, if a setup of MNK, RDM, NIN would be a good idea? I see a problem in this setup in that only I (the MNK) will have the DMG bonus and not the NIN, as we're fighting with different types of weapons. Any comments or tips before I go would be appreciated, just so I don't go foolishly waste my seals, lol.

My experience
# Aug 12 2005 at 2:42 AM Rating: Decent
Did this three times today, with the same setup as listed below, DRK/THF (me), RDM/WHM, PLD/WAR.

The RDM was a Galka, so he WAS running low on MP near the end, but the battle was still quite easy. Things of note:

Yeah, some people are reporting Stun can land...I was 0/11 in the three battles. If it starts casting AM, just run. Melee, be sure to check if he's casting on YOU, in which case, you'll need to jet out of there, not the tank.

Slashing melee, PLEASE sub THF. You WILL get hate from the tank if you can't TA some onto him or her...I basically just TA Guillotined onto the tank for 600-900 dmg, then came around and used SA for a 300-400 dmg hit. The ONE time I used SATA Guillotined alone, I stole hate and had it for the rest of the friggin' battle.

Sleepga II is nothing to worry about, and bring Holy Waters. Try to keep the mage out of range.

Nothing too much more of note...play competantly and you'll do fine. In three runs we got 2 Elusive Earrings and 2 Trailer's Kukris...since the RNG nerf Kukri's have plummeted to below 300k, but the Earrings are up to 1.4-1.5 million in Ifrit, so that's one hell of a profit I made today...around 1.3 million for me alone.

What a GREAT BCNM.
