Description

After finishing Signed in Blood, zone out of Southern Sandoria and then back in. Return to Sobane for the next quest.

Her husband will want you to confirm if the bandits are trying to kill this knight in question and asks you to figure out how to communicate with the Tonberries in Carpenter's Landing because they may hold the answers.

Chocobo on down to Southern Landing of Carpenter's Landing and speak to the elf in the subligar next to the Tonberry to be greeted to a cutscene.

The elf will tell you that in order to get the tonberries to talk he'll need some Attohwa Ginseng. So guess what, we're going to Attohwa!

This is where people get confused, but I can CONFIRM WITHOUT A DOUBT that Gallinippers will drop the ginseng. I farmed it from them myself. ^^

Return to the man and trade him the Ginseng. You'll be given the Tonberry Blackboard key item and told to talk to the Tonberry on the barge ride.

Speak to the Tonberry and ask him all the questions that'll appear on the menu. You'll know you've asked them all when the Tonberry takes the key item from you.

The Tonberry will tell you he's under orders to bring a Treasury Gold Ingot to the Waterfall in Davoi.

The Ingot drops off the Shadows in Fei'Yin. Can be a messy business but I was able to solo them as a 66 RDM and a very kind thief offered to help me later. ^^ Took about 20 minutes to get my Ingot.

Take the Ingot to J-11 in Davoi and trade it to the ??? there. It will spawn a clot monster. Very easy to kill. I could've soloed it easily but I had a 75 BLM friend there for support.

Once the clot is defeated click the ??? to get a cutscene again.

Return to Sobane and you're done!

went as a 55rdmg/blmg and had my npc earing hot and ready, just in case.
had to kill a reg slime and an oct to clear the area "just in case" no exp from either of them. Of course buffed up and popped him. and went at it. only had to recast stoneskin once and it was over before I knew it, in other words as a rdmg I truly belive a lvl 52 could solo this guy also. But with the rush we all are looking for. good luck to ya! Oh. and no I didn't use my npc after all...
Great story

I wonder if the story line for these quests ties in with one I got in Rabao. This girl wanted to be a bounty hunter..I don't remember the title off hand tho.
One of my favorite

Great quest. Really extends this part of the CoP story. Other than 'A Timely Visit', I think this is my favorite quest in San d'Oria.

Me and a BST teamed up to do this. Both of us had an ignot, but I only had to trade mine and the BST still has his. So if you do this with 4 people you only need 1 ignot

Level 61 smn/whm
Summon magic 187
Used a melon drink at start but didn't really need it.

Using carby with light staff defeated the clot pretty easily solo however he did enough damage I would worry about someone several levels lower attempting to solo.

Hemetic Cyst uses fluid spread and epoxy spread frequently each of which stripped my blink, stoneskin, and still did 70-90 damage to me. Carbuncle was down under 1/2 life at the end.

Total HP seems to be about: 2500-3000
Meteorite did 400-450 per hit
Carbuncle hit for 90-120

Was able to duo clot fight with a Taru THF46/NIN23 and Taru RDM46/NIN23 pretty easily.

More detailed directions on the first half of this quest:

Upon speaking to Sobane, you will be told to head to Carpenter's Landing.

Before you do so, you should get yourself an Attohwa Ginseng from killing either Gallinippers, Ogreflies or Monarch Ogreflies in Attohwa Chasm.

Once you obtain it, head to Carpenter's Landing SOUTH Landing, (J-10). This is accessible by either the appropriate Manaclipper barge, or by entering Carpenter's Landing via the east side of Jugner Forest. Speak to Anguenet, who is standing beside the Tonberry, Lourdaude.

Anguenet will give you a key item (Tonberry blackboard) and tell you to speak to the Tonberry, Riche who can be found onboard the Manaclipper. I found him while riding from the South Landing to the Central Landing. Riche will answer all your questions and take the key item from you.

Hope this helps.
Can't find ???

how to find the elf
# Jun 01 2005 at 3:31 AM Rating: Decent
I entered Carpenter's Landing from the wooden shutter in Sandoria. Then, I waited an incredibly long time on the ferry to arrive (the ferry that you get on will arrive like 1 minute after the one that does not take passengers). The elvaan (Anguenet) and tonberry(Lourdaude) were found on the dock of South Landing via Newtpool. As the ferry was docking on the South Landing you could see the couple from the boat. I just jumped off and talked to the elvaan and hoped back on the ferry before it took off. The place is the same if you are doing the first part of quest or giving it the key item it asks for. Plus, the tonberry I needed to talk to was the first little yoda when I got back on. Also on the long trip around the landing I got about 5 lightning clusters out of the deal...not too shabby. cya ingame

The elvaan you need to talk to is in J-10 in Carpenter's Landing and you have to enter by the east entrance from jugner forest.

take care
Someone please include more details XD

I wish someone would explain where is "the elf
in subligar next to the Tonberry". It is a pain wondering around Carpenter's Landing for 2 hrs. Seem like in a maze without map.
Saw an elf but he was diffinitely not in subligar...and I see no tonberry.
Hope someone would post up the location or explain in details for people without map. Glad I had warp. XD

try using a different entrance from the jungle. I think you want to go to the southeastern side of jugnar to get there.

Not a bad Quest

Ok yes it was a little long... but the story IS worth it. Also was able to solo this as a lvl 55 NIN/WAR it really is that simple. oh and the directions up to are DEAD on . Got my ginseng from the Gallinippers and the gold from Shades. if you are interested in Story This is a good quest to do.
Grrrrr...

It wont let me on the barge, it says its temporarily out of service, and it always has since the first time i went to Carpenters Landing. Does anyone know why i cant get on? I bought a ticket already.

Not worth it

This quest really isn't worth doing for the reward. Willpower Torque only sells for about 6k on Cerbeus.

Don't bother going through the trouble unless you just want to do it for the fun.

Gil rewarda aren't the only rewards possible. The story revealed by this quest is very interesting. I haven't finished it, but judging from the eariler quest, and the first cutscene, it will be good. So many ppl get caught up the "oh, I'm not getting a huge reward, so I won't do it" attitude. It's why some ppl don't do the CoP missions. They lack a tangiable reward (gil, items, ect), but the storyline is the reward.

I have to say the Sandy has the best quests, this quest, and "A Timely Visit" are amazing. I'm still trying to piece together all the names and the events that unfolded. I don't think any other city has a quest like these (excpet advance jobs and AF quests)
ingot

I was in yughott grotto for two days and didn't get one treasury drop...I got everything else but that...Could it just be a rare drop or that serjeants drop them and they're stubborn? I don't know...but till then...I guess Fei'yin it is...

well my friends and i were out to kill Miser Murphy and get me a chest key for the Tele-Zvahal quest. Anyway we were killing shadows for probably 20-30 minutes, got one chest key and two ingots. So it was pretty darn fast.
One spawn.

If you are doing this with one or more others, you only need one Treasury Gold ingot for everyone. Spawn the monster once, kill it, and have everyone examine the ??? for the cutscene.

I did this with Marnix (63 DRK), and we almost fell asleep on the clot NM, so a 60 should certainly be able to solo it; not sure how low you can be. He used his ingot to spawn it, and we both got the CS; I sold my ingot for 1k+ to an NPC after finishing the quest.

I believe each person needs Attowah Ginseng, but I'm not sure.

In regards to the Treasury Gold, folks, you do not need to go to Fei'yin to get these. I was in Yughott Grotto killing orcs and got one of these Treasury Gold ingots. I know its the same one cause I looked at my TV screen to read what it said and compared it to the name and description of this item on my computer. They are one and the same. I used the upper north entrance to the grotto in Ghelsba Fort which is behind a tent. Its the one where all the orcs are the kazham airship key mobs. They were dropping Cathedral Tapestry, and these gold ingots. So you don't have to go to Fei'yin to kill shadows, you can get them easier in Yughott Grotto. :)

If you are at least lvl60 and can solo EP mobs, I recommend trying to get the drop from Ogreflies. As a NIN61/THF15, I fought over a dozen Gallinippers with no drop of the Attowa Ginseng. However, I fought an Ogrefly (EP at my level) and got the drop on my first try. I don't know if it was luck, but I fought a few more and another dropped for a friend on her way over.

You can find Ogreflies on the eastern half of Attowa. They are NOT in the wide open areas as the Gallinippers roam. You'll find them in the far eastern area of the east half of the map. It's the maze-like area. When you start seeing Bane Lizards and Master Coerls around, the Ogreflies shouldn't be too far away. Like Gallinippers, they will link so pull em to a safe area and beat them down.

Ya i killed about 12-15 galnippers and got nothing. Definently try the ogreflies if you can. Got the item after 2 kills

The story of this quest and the one before it is very interesting; it ties into the THF AF storyline involving Atarefaunet's Band.

Well I got the quest done yesterday (sunday). Did the whole thing solo, was interesting seeing as noone knows the lvl of the cyst. Well I have to admit the shadows were way more annoying then the cyst. So the lvl of the cyst is prolly 40ish. Was a fun quest, one hell of a storyline, and am really looking forward to seeing more quests like this one coming up. Have fun and enjoy the new items..... :)

I did this tonight. I just wanted to add that one treasury ingot for the party was enough (we didn't need one for each person. Everyone in the party got credit for the kill and got the cutscene when they clicked on the ???.)
