Description

Take 30 Kindred Seals and trade them to Shami in Port Jeuno and choose a Lachesis Orb. To enter the battle field, trade the Lachesis Orb to the Burning Circle in Waughroon Shrine and choose the battle Operation Desert Swarm. You can take up to 6 people in and you have 30 minutes to defeat it.

You will fight 6 scorpions.

Strategies

6x Solo jobs: 6 people, capable of soloing a scorpion pull individual scorpions to the corners of the arena, and to the opening cave area, far away enough to avoid AOE and beat the crap out of their own scorpions.

The remaining scorpions get stronger as the their brethren are killed off. The last one to die takes about half as much damage as they do in the beginning and will hit significantly harder as well. Due to this, it's a good idea to coordinate the kills so that they all time at roughly the same time.

BLMS: 2 to 6.

6x BST, no prob

Hey Garetjax here from Bahamut. I'm a 75 BST and ive done this ksnm many times. Most any 75 DD job can solo a scorp in here. I can solo one with no problem with my pet tanking half the time and me the other with ut NI. Also if you use the Gaudy Harness/2x Rune Axe combination you will have +10 HP regen every 2-3 seconds so you never really lose to much HP. It would be easy for any 75 DD party to all solo the scorps but I think 6x BST could do it very well as a result of our pets taking most of the direct damage from the scorps.

There's a video of 6x drg/mages soloing 1 scorp each, looks like it'd be a fun thing if you could find 5x drg/mages 75(and you being 75 drg/mage yourself)

...Provided you're all competent at your job.

all 6 people bring orbs, best part is no 2h's really need to be used, and you don't need any mages or any ninjas, or anything remotely resembling a ninja.

Really looks like it could be alot of fun and possibly very nice gil.

People always wonder what the point of an all drg LS would be...and I think this KSNM is more than enough reason lol DRG

Ok i was tooling around looking at some stuff and saw this video and a platoon scorpian and came here to see what it was about. I must say seeing all these people with a full pt and wondering if that will be ok makes me wonder about this KSNM. I saw someone soloing this. Yes I am sure you are thinking that I am insane so here is the link:

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=1004006451

I wish I could read japanese, but he/she soloed it just fine. Can't tell the job either >< Just thought someone would enjoy seeing this.
not soloable by most^^;

lol, I wonder what his drops were like...

Avesta typically solo things (pretty much anything) as rdm/nin so it's interesting to see him as blm. It seemed like he had rdm sub just because he was getting his spells of fairly fast but that could be from equipment or something (maybe merits? I don't know anything about them just yet).

Anyway, I don't think it would be impossible at all after magic nurfs. It's no different than manaburning it which is the way that 4 blms do it still, it's just he's doing it by himself. But I'll agree with what someone else said, just because Avesta does it doesn't mean you can... not only does he have very VERY good gear and such (hell, you could too given enough time), he has freakin' insane skill, doesn't lose is cool. Of course I'm sure for every video of him soloing things there are a few under his bed of him getting his *** kicked. What I love about him though is that he isn't afraid to try, even though he likely has to fail a couple of times before he gets it right.

Avesta should be automatically excluded from any discussion about what is soloable and what is not on the strength that s/he is clearly a freak of nature.
Seriously...how does soloing Ash Dragon even enter into your thought process?

Sleeping the scorps and fighting them one by one in my experience (both pre-patch and post-patch) is a losing strategy. It can be done, but you need some heavy DD for quick kills and a lot of coordination and cooperation. With yourself and the Ninja only being 66 I think you lacked the firepower to kill it quickly enough. Especially if you were using the Blm for Sleep and not nuke.

Also, all DD should be subbing Nin to help negate the AoE damage. Mages need to keep clear of the fighting, but not far enough away that they can't heal or Nuke. The Brd should be subbing Nin too because once 5 scorpions wake up, he might have a hard time re-casting lullaby if he is constantly getting hit.

I do this regularly with friends. We never do this fighting the scorps one at a time however. It is too slow and too complicated. We just have each DD solo their own scorp (away from the other players to avoid overlapping AoEs).

My friends and I that do this regularly: we are all level 75 players with a few merits in our jobs and some pretty good gear between us. Sometimes its an easy win, and sometimes its extrememly difficult. Every once in a while there might just be only one of us left standing at the end. (Usually me lol)

I would probably suggest waiting till you are at or above at least 74 and subbing Ninja to try this again. That way you will have a little more DD and you will be able to sub Nin for Utsu: Ni.

Doesn't matter if BRD is getting hit the only way to interrupt songs is by moving, sleep or stun... getting hit means nothing.

But yeah u need to just have 6 people each taking a scorp... one by one is retarded in this BC

Sure can. As long as everyone knows what they are doing.

Your best bet in my opinion is to sleep Scorps and fight two at a time I would suggest (Mnk/Nin & Drk/Nin on one, Mnk/Nin & Thf/Nin on the other). If the the melee are skilled enough, each one can solo their own scorpion too.

However if you fight one at a time, or two at a time, make sure you MOVE THE SCORPION AWAY from the rest of the sleeping scorpions and away from everyone else in the arena. The AoE can cause damage to anyone that is near, and can awaken the sleeping scorpions.

I would probably sugget just pulling two down to the burning circle entrance each time. Take one about halfway down the hall, and the other all the way down to the end of the hall (at the actual burning circle).

Leave the Brd in the large room to continue sleeping the Scorpions. If the Whm is going to stay near the melee while they fight, make sure he/she casts Stoneskin.

However the Whm really shouldn't have to heal the melee until after they kill their scorpions if they wanna be safe. Once two scorpions are dead, throw up a curaga, and send the 4 melee back to the arena to go get the next two scorpions. Bring them back to the burning circle area...

...yadda yadda...Rinse and repeat for the win.

I did this KSNM 6 times yestarday, set-up as follows.

WHM/NIN (me)
MNK/NIN
MNK/NIN
PLD/NIN
BST/WHM
WAR/NIN

We toke the 6 solo fight methods =P, this battle is not that hard if you get people that know how to solo right and on average toke about 5~6 minutes to complete KSNM. Since I was a WHM here I did throw up a few buffs and Hasted the weakest Soloer and myself (last battle hasted biggest DD to speed battle up even more). We won 5 out of 6 runs, only losing the first because we didn't quite take the new hate claiming method into account and so my Dia II didn't pull hate on my scorp then when I finally got it, the place I should have been someone else was... however we quickly sorted out those two issues with me pulling the scorps (considering I had pretty much longest range attack there was with Dia II anyways) to start and having the other person in the tunnel go further in. Also if someone was a bit slow pulling hate on their own scorp I had stoneskin and flash to back me up and allow me to recover better then anyone else.

Now I will admit my Melee gear, even for a Mage sucks =P, However These scorps only have about 4K HP and my Hexa Strike would do 600~700 damage so I'd allways get off atleast 1 hexa strike before someone else finished their scorp and then would heal those that needed healing. So I would do about 40% of my scorp's HP in about 3~4 minutes (as I said, there are WHM with much better Melee gear then I have around =P). However I probably would not have another WHM/NIN just since that'd slow things down too much to be worth the fact a WHM/NIN can go around and heal others if the need arises without taking on much hate.

Before submitting people to having a WHM/NIN I did show I was capaible of being able to solo DCs by grabbing a DC Tiger in Wajoom(sp?) Woodlands and taking it down solo, if you can't solo one of these, you probably can't take a scorp in ODS alone (I'd say the DC tigers are about the same difficulty apart from Scorps AoE and Tigers can Paralyze)=P. However those tiger can paralyze, so if they do and you lose only because of paralyze, I wouldn't count losing just because of paralyze to be an issue since scorps can not paralyze =P.

One thing to note about scorps, I believe if one of them uses a TP ability called Ground Breaker or something like that, they all do, however this is dispite how every much TP they have, if they have less then 100% TP when preforming this move, the scorps that had less then 100%TP will be forced into not attacking for about 20 seconds, a great advantage to have 20 free seconds to just beat down on a scorp.

Drops were that I remember from all 5 runs
O.Ingot x3 (better then nothing atleast =P)
Phoenix Feather x1
Raxa x1
Rampager x2
Malboro Fiber x1
Heart Snatcher x1
Anubis Knife x1
Ebony Log x3 (I think)
High Quality Scorpion Shell x5 (100% reward rate after all)
Warwolf Belt x3

As a note on my Gear =P, Blessed (mitts, trousers and boots), AF (body), Optical Hat, Hierarch Belt (Switched to Life Belt once MP used), Bellicose Mantle, Dual Darksteel mauls, Medicine Earring, Energy Earring +1, Electrum Ring x2 (Switched to Aquamarine once MP used), Fortune Egg and Star Necklace (Switched to Justice Badge once MP Used). So clearly room for improvement on Melee gear for me =P.

Did this tonight unhosted for the first time, only lost one run, due to a couple miscasts. Used an unconventional setup, all linkshell friends ^^

Camtheman WAR75/NIN37
Capone WAR75/NIN37
Envieux RDM75/BLM37
Etsiena BLM75/WHM37
Freestyle BLM75/WHM37
Evolnod BRD75/WHM37

Used Lullaby/Sleepga combo, pulled 1 at a time, mages went nuke happy first mob while war's went to work as well. Then pieced em apart one by one, eventually we figured out it worked best to have one blm on sleepga watch while i cast songs and helped with lulluby, and the other blm worked on nukes. Pretty easy once you figure it out, we did 5 runs, won four, the last two completely flawlessly. This is not at even close to being a hard fight, so if you have the friends, stop wasting you profits by giving blm groups 25-33% lol, even split ftw~

Did this run tonight with a
75 pld/nin
75 pld/nin
75 drk/nin
69 blm/whm
69 rdm/blm
71 whm/blm(me)

Strategy was pld, pld, and drk each take one while the blm and rdm kept the other 3 asleep. We usually ended up killing 3 or 4 of them before we all died, raised up, then killed the remaining scorps. We were successful 4 out of 5 runs with this, worked pretty well. The only time we missed out was because one of the plds went afk and missed the entrance time so we had to do it with 5 people.

My drops were:
venomous claw (5.7m yes!)
abusis's knife(1k)
philosopher's stone(50k)
hierarch belt(10k)
expunger (r/ex)
petrified log (25k)

Out of the 4 successful runs I was the only one to get the venomous claw, with this strategy the fights took 20-25 minutes give or take.

My battle plan
# May 07 2006 at 2:16 PM Rating: Decent
Here was the pt set up i went in with. 75RDM, 75WHM, 75WAR/NIN, 73PLD, 72DRG, and 72BLM.

The battle plan was simple and easy to execute. The blm and rdm were on sleep duty, whm made sure we all lived, and the melees killed.

The blm started the battle with sleepga II, the war went in and pulled the front right scorp, and i (pld) went and got the front middle scorp. We braught them back to the hall so the AoE's didnt wake the others. War solod his while the drg and i duod ours. the mages debuffed the first two and focused strictly on sleep. Afetr we killed our we went to help the war finish his. Once his was dead i went in and grabbed another. Usuallyi grabbed any awake one i saw, but if they were all asleep just grab one. Pulled it back to hall and the three of us melees killed it. the mages didnt debuff these ones. We continued this strat till all were dead.

It went real smooth and did it 6 times back to back. Only got hectic when we tried it on earthsday and whenever sleep wouldnt stick (wasnt often). Id recomend pld take drinks cuz the rdm will be focusing on sleep and will be out of refresh range.

GL and may u get riher than i did >< lol drops sucked.

Did this yesterday with BLM*4, RDM, BRD. Thundaga III, RDM ES+ Sleepga, Blizzaga III = dead scorps in just over 2 min. I'm sure you could even do it in under 2 if we didn't have such a long countdown and buff up with stoneskin + blink first.

Our static (75rdm, 75nin, 75thf) is always on the lookout for things we can trio for xp, gil, or just fun. Lately we've been trying different enm's and ksnm's since we're always doing bcnm40 for peacock charms (8/60 or so now on it).

So Friday night the 3 of us load up on sleeping potions, the thf and I grab some regen drinks, and we head out to the shrine. We buff outside and enter. The rdm/blm used ES and cast sleepga 1 on the scorps, and the thf and I having gainged 100% tp outside with sleeping potions skillchained the first scorp, basically killing it. We then each pulled a scorp away from the others and soloed them while the rdm kept the rest of the scorpions slept.

We killed these relatively easily, although the thf's scorpion spammed it's aoe shadow stripping ability and he took a decent amount of dmg. We went back and pulled one scrop away, which turned out to be a bad idea as by this time the last 2 scorps the rdm was sleeping were very sleep resistant. He couldn't stay alive with 2 on him since they only stayed slept a few seconds. He died, and we barely managed to finish ours off before both the thf and I also died due to having 3 on us.

The thf and I reraised, but the rdm couldn't because he forgot to use his reraise hairpin. Once weakness fell we slept until 100% tp again and finished off the 2 remaining scorps with ease while the rdm cheered us on still dead. Got a D cloth and O ingot, so 3.5 million for our troubles.

With a few small changes in our strategy, this should be an easy ksnm to trio. Our first try was just an experiement and we made some mistakes resulting in a wipe, but now that we know what to expect I don't see it being a problem to trio. By far the easiest 6man ksnm that I've tried, and basically the best drops as well.

Last nite me and some LS friends were bored to hell and decided to go do this just to kill some time and have some fun, after looking for awhile for a sixth member we headed to Pal mines with the following setup:

MNK75 - Rhoe
SAM75 - Renges
RDM75 - Resonator
BLM70 - Zephi
WHM69 - Nayoyo
WAR75 - myself ^^

BLM goes in ES+Sleepga2 and then I'll pull the mob one at a time and away from the the other mob (cause the one scorp thats awake will awaken the other one if they are in AoE range ^.^), Melee just destroys this scorpions, blm keep them slept, rdm helps buff melees (haste 4tw) and support sleep, and whm keeps everyone alive. Easy, we won in 6 mins or so. On a side note keep the mages out of AoE in the last scorp as they get stronger everytime you kill one.

I just did this today. I've been hearing a lot about it and I was so glad to finally be able to atempt it. We have a setup of RDM RDM WHM(me) PLD DRK MNK. We are all from the same LS, but for some reason we decided to do "Your orb, your drop." No idea why. Knowing my luck, everyone else would get Vclaw or D ingot and I would get screwed over like usual.

Our plan was to have one RDM go in and ES sleepga the scorps. Then the PLD gets as much hate as possible as DRK and MNK solo the scorps one by one. The RDMs continue to keep scorps slept and cure pld while WHM cures mnk and drk.

First two runs go well and we get two v claws! All right! Next run is my run and everything goes well but i get complete ****. I made a profit of about 200k on the run. Next run RDM dc and we wipe and then we disband.. I have the worst luck (besides the person who went after me.)

Just completed this last night. At first a PLD set this up. First setup was PLD, BLMx4, and SMN for buffs. We go in BLMx3 -ga center scorp, and I Sleepga II. Looks good so far. BLMx3-ga again, I attempt sleepga but we wipe becuase two scorps resisted. We have RR up so we decide to use and regroup. Before our time was up we all try again so we dont waste seals. 2nd attempt worked exactly same was as first. IMO the PLD was a waste of a spot he did nothing but watch BLMs die first.

So PLD bails all mad. We recruit a 5BLM. So setup now is BLMx5 and SMNx1 (even this spot could be a BLM, but we used him for Stoneskin and Arial Armor). So we buff, head in and works like this. BLMx4 -ga, I sleepga II center scorp as soon as I see animation for first -ga hit, then BLMx5 -ga as quick as possible, that equals all dead scorps in about 2min. On occassion we had a single scorp with a sliver of life. 5xBLM can handle that no prob.

IMO Manaburn is the way to go. BLMx5 -ga, Sleepga II, BLM x6 -ga couldnt be easier. I will give you some pointers though.

* One BLM must be a shot caller. In otherwords have him macro when to start -ga. It is crucial that all BLMS start exactly at same time. The obvious reason is Sleepga II. If you have a late -ga cast it will hit after Sleepga II, wake up mobs and wipe everyone.

* The BLM in charge of Sleepga II needs to cast as soon as he sees the first -ga animation hit the mob. Any later and the 6 Scorps will wipe out one BLM fast. I learned this the hard way. On the first 3 runs one BLM kept going down. Once I figured out timing, the last 3 runs not one death.

Now for the good stuff, we did go 6/6 after the PLD bailed on us. I went on waterday and earthsday on a New Moon. Drops were 2x Vclaw, Damascus Ingot, 2x O. Ingot, Square of Raxa Cloth, 2x Heirarch Belt, 3x Warwolf Belt (Not sure on spelling), Philosophers stone, and other assorted Items.

From reading the post I guess we were fairly lucky on drops. We all netted about 3.5mil for 2hours work. Anyhow hope this helps.

I can confirm a "Ram's Horn" also drops from this BCNM.

Our pt setup was
72pld<me> <---plays no role except heals blm
75whm
75Blm
75Blm
71Rdm
74Mnk<---plays no role at all....

Baisically, blms ThundagaIII at same time. After they hit rdm sleepagas them. Blm sleepagaIIs for good measure and waits on recast on thundaga. Rinse repeat. Whm keeps spamming cures on blm who takes hate. Eventaully they do begin to resist sleeps, so make sure to get the dmg in. I do recommend that a second healer exist, as i had to heal quite a bit after blms buffs wore down. 6/6 runs though, no deaths. No v-claw but we got at least either O.ingot or D.ingot on every drop. Got the damasce cloth once also.
