Battle Notes

In order to enter the battlefield you will need to bring a Moon Orb, which is obtained by trading 60 Beastmen's Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno. When you are ready, trade the Moon Orb to the Burning Circle inside Balga's Dais and choose to enter the battle Wild Wild Whiskers.

Your party will be deleveled to 60 when you do this encounter. Your party may consist of 3 members. You have 15 minutes to defeat your enemy. You will be fighting a coeurl called Macan Gadangan that casts Thundaga, Thundaga II, and Burst, and uses all the normal Coeurl weaponskills. However, it has a few new WS. Macan Gadangan has an ability called Frenzied Rage, which seems to be something like a Meditate skill, as it would follow up with a WS almost instantly after. Usually, after Frenzied Rage, it would follow up with a WS called Charged Whisker that is AOE, and does lightning damage that did 480 damage on average to Courier Carrie. It also can use a WS called Pounce that is single target and seems to be physical damage. That WS did 400 damage to Courier Carrie. As a 60 BST with something like 220 defense and 50 VIT, Macan Gadangan did 120 damage a swing to me on average.

Strategies

The best party for this BCNM is Nin, Whm, and a DD preferably with /THF.

Buff up and first thing the Whm does is Silence once and when it wears don't silence again now all that Macan Gadangan will do is cast Burst and melee which makes this bcnm a cakewalk for this trio

Bad Luck on drops
# Sep 12 2007 at 7:25 AM Rating: Decent
We have just started doing this BCNM and have gone 5/5 on wins but 0/5 on rope drop. Party set-up was as follows.
WHM/BLM
SAM/THF
NIN/WAR
Once entering the BCNM WHM Buffs with protectra and Shellra. Rest to recover mp at 100% move to top of platform. WHM cast BarThundra (not really sure if this is needed) then cast Silence (only cast this once since it seems to lock NM into burst mode for the durtion). Once silence lands I move in and porvoke and begin attacking as normal (I do not use any Ninjutsu other than shadows). The Sam would attack as normal but would TA in me whenever he could.
Kind of a side note here: The first time we did this the WHM ran out of MP but we won because the SAM was able to SA/WS for the kill. I noticed that the WHM spent a ton of MP on Stona since I was getting petrified all the time. I also noticed that 9 out of 10 times after casting burst the NM would cast Petrifiying Breath. So for runs 2-5 once NM finished casting Burst I would run in a small circle away fom him so that Pet. breath would not land. Once I started doing this I was only Petrified twice in each of the next 4 runs and the WHM ended up with 95% of his MP left. Also none of us ever came close to being in the yellow.
This has proved to be a very easy BCNM it's a shame that I have used 120 Seals (300) total for all of us and have not seen the rope drop.

It also drops a fluorite here. Only thing not listed above that I've seen drop. I've seen every other item in our 20+ runs.

Did it this afternoon, getting help from a well off whm and equally ric ninja (myself being a dirt poor blm). We used the standard strategy, on the first round, went successful with rope drop but time was close (14:07) the second also go the drop better time (13:00). However on the third round, which of course had to be mine, towards the beggining of the fight the nin accidentally prevented a burst with a ws, which ended in the whole party geting hurt. Later the mob decided to turn on my and burst me quite out of the blue for a one shot (and I know I wasnt over nuking). This resulted in our loss, the nin eventually biting it ang the timer runnong before the whm was taken fortunately. So be warned not to let these things happen to you... cuz they suck.

Just did this one tonight.

RDM/BLM (me)
WHM/BLM
NIN/WAR

First run, we almost lost to time, had 9 seconds remaining XD. I dont't know if he starts in Stonega mode, but all 3 times we pulled with Silence, and once it wore, he was in Burst mode, so we left it. Lucky perhaps? WHM kept up Stona, Haste, Paralyna, and Cure 4 as needed. I Refresh'd and nuked. Aero II, Blizzard II, and Drain did around 150 damage, more or less.

First run, I didn't burn through my MP fast enough to Convert twice, second and third runs I did. If I were to do this again, I'd start off with Chainspell, Stoneskin, Blink, Nuke until empty, Convert, Nuke until empty, rest. Yeah, I get hate, but with Chainspell up you Blink as needed. Eventually, NIN would get Hate back and I'd rest to full, Refreshing as needed. At full, Nuke until empty again. One more rest to full, and Convert timer would be up - Nuke FTW. Our NIN was only doing about 25 dmg a hit, so cat had lots of HP. I read the above posts and might want to try this as RDM/NIN with Haste+Enspells instead of Nukes. Would be more MP efficient, and Spirits Within at 300% TP would be fantastic.

Oh, and we were 2/3 on Penitent's Rope. NIN got a Gleeman's :(
What we did
# Nov 19 2006 at 2:30 PM Rating: Decent
I did this 3 times in a row (won 2 and lost 1 because we ran out of time/nobody died though).

Went in as:
60 WHM/BLM
60 Nin/WAR
60 BLM/WHM

We entered buffed, hasted the nin (I was whm). He went straight in and voked. BLM and me stood over to the side. BLM eletmental seal + Silence. Then I rested. It casts burst before it uses petrify. So as soon as it casts burst I got up from healing and casted stona, as soon he became petrified, Stona landed. I did this, and kept rested, blm rested as he ran out of mp. I kept haste up, and only cured when it was absoletly nessesary (if he was in the red or shadows were all down).

We could have kept this up for hours, maybe even days (if the NM had infinite HP). That's what I love about it. If you know what your doing your pretty much invincible.

My drops (1 orb):
Adaman Ore
Hermes Quencher
Hi-Reraiser
High Quality Coeurl Hide x3
Penitent's Rope (600k on unicorn)
Icarus Wing
Teleport Ring: Mea

I didn't sell the rope, but I got about 120K from selling the other stuff. so earned about 720k on my run.

We've done this run 3 times so far
The first run we did was for a friend to keep rope, was PLD60/NIN30(Me) WHM60/BLM30 and RDM60/BLM30, it dropped walkure mask and peni rope,
The 2nd and 3rd runs were with the same WHM, but a different RDM
The setup for the last 2 was PLD/NIN(Me still) WHM60/BLM30, and RDM60/NIN30, we took 10 minutes on first run (my orb), it dropped mea ring, gold ingot, addy ore, peni rope, and a few other random stuff, and it took is about 10 minutes or so to beat it. the other run was the RDM's orb, and he got mea ring addy ore peni rope and some other random stuff, we took 12 minutes on the 2nd one, we never had any real danger, got in red once after it hit my shadows down with the aga ability and started pumeling me, we all cured me back into yellow/white HP.
I did what kitashi posted about:
Quote:
Cat begins to cast Burst.
PLD casts Utsusemi, maybe cures themselves if they need it to save the resting WHM a tick or two of MP recovery.
Cat lands Burst unless it's paralyzed (which happens a lot), but it's blinked away. 90% of the time, the cat will immediately petrify the PLD, then whiff on the remaining two shadows. WHM casts Stona and sits down again, possibly after tossing another cure to the PLD. PLD Flashes immediately. By the time Flash wears off, the cat will probably be back to casting Burst.

When i started the fight i had my AF armor on, but i had sun ring x2, chiv chain, life belt, and a shield. I started by shield bash for a tiny extra bit of hate, just incase. after i got 100 tp, i switched to DD gear, Sipahi turban, haubergeon, royal knights breeches, and fang earring x2 and then hit a vorpal, usually did 200-400, it was around 580 for max. After i switched to DD gear, i stayed in DD gear until i would get in the yellows, which wasnt often, having DD gear for the fight, even if it means losing evasion for the fight is worth it, especially since you can just flash it and it will probably miss you anyways. I also used mithkabob for food for a little extra STR and DMG that i'd deal.
So, in all, this run is VERY easy and its a very common drop, 3/3 on rope, but only 1/3 on mask. Way better then the Under Observation since its drop is way more common. Oh, and this BCNM60 is MORE fun then the lvl 40 one.
All you really need is Main or sub NIN to tank, and you should do fine if its on burst mode, have fun guys! I know i did.

Having been doing Under Observation for the past while and having an amazingly crap run of drops, I really enjoyed this BCNM a lot more.
Our set up was WHM/SMN(me) NIN/WAR(best friend) and THF/NIN(pick up from shouts) First time of any of us doing this, went smoothly as anything.

Took all the advice posted, the only accident we had was when NIN wasn't watching shadows on second run through and ate a burst, THF blink tanked and we managed to win and even better got our first Rop drop :D!

For the most part he followed the pattern of Burst => Petrifying breath but once or twice followed with Charged Whisker (by far the most annoying of his attacks) I found he was quite easy to debuff, with Silence and the NIN had no problem with debuffing with Ninjitsu.
Subbing SMN I had around 680MP, I found this was just enough to last through without healing (I forgot to kneel between bursts the first time around)

NIN and THF did Scission SC for reasonable damage, though SC isn't necessary by any stretch.

I just did this BCNM with 2 friends. If you know how to play it it's a breeze. We won 6 out of 6. 4 times we came out literally untouched. Nin mnk whm. I did this fight in the past a lot too but I never saw a Walkure Mask drop, I got all others once or more. There is no reason not to take a nin. The key member in this fight is the whm anyway. If he keeps up with stona & silena it's simple. If he/she doesn't you die.

You don't need a Nin, but a good Nin will have a much easier time (I sort of did cheat as I had 2 evasion merits)

I did 3 runs as Nin/Thf/Whm. Had about +39 Evasion in gear, used sushi. Started the fight with Juabku, Hojo, Kurayami and it was practically over.

Whm silenced so it would cast Burst, the first run I went into red hp within the first few seconds because I wasn't looking at the chat log and was telling the Whm to silence. Cat got me with a charged whisker/double attack.

From that point on he hit me once combined in all three runs. We went 3/3 on the rope, easy as pie each walked away with about 2.3mil.

I desperately wanted a Rope for my RDM, I felt gimp without it since all the other slots had nice gear. Anyway, I read about doing this as WHM NIN BLM. My group was WHM NIN RDM (Taru RDM, and it matters. I'll get into that).

Macan has two modes. Thundaga mode and Burst mode. With a NIN tank it's very obvious you want Burst mode. In the 3 runs I did he would always be casting Thundaga right away. Immediately after he casts a spell, he will use a "random" weaponskill. I say random, because I noticed a slight pattern. While in Thundaga mode he would use Charged Whisker more times than not. With Barthunder up the NIN took 300-400 damage at most.

Once he was in Burst mode, he would usually follow with Petrifying Breath. He used this move almost all the time, 9 times out of 10 this is what he used. He would occasionally use Blaster, once or twice he used Charged Whisker.

Roles of NIN...to tank and not die =P. Very simple.
Roles of WHM...to cure status debuffs and to cure whenever necesary, which while in Burst mode isn't often.
Roles of RDM...Haste NIN, Refresh self and WHM. Once NIN has established hate he doesn't lose it, at least mine didn't in 3 runs. Begin spaming Blizzard II and Fire II going back and forth. Blizz did about 180, Fire 140, Stone II...which they're weak to, only did about 90 even with Earth Staff.

The race of the RDM doesn't really matter...but definetly being Taru was perfect. With 700+ MP, I can do the basic duties and alternate Blizz/Fire till I'm out of MP. Run out of range to be safe, convert, give yourself a Cure IV...don't bother curing full, waste of MP. Continue nuking. By the time I ran out the second time from Convert he was a mere nuke or 2 away from death.

I have very nice gear considering RDM is my main and low 60s, so I was able to use all my normal gear. As a Taru I devote every slot to INT where I can. This likely would mean my nukes do more damage than another races, but if they were similarly equiped they would run out of MP faster.

With this setup no meds whatsoever were needed. That might not be the case in other setups.

Someone else giving their strategy said...

You'd be surprised how ridiculously fast this thing can strip shadows. It's not all that much slower than a mob with Hundred Fists, or perhaps it just seems like that because it'll nail you with constant double attacks.

That's absolutely incorrect and false information. The mob does attack quickly but not *that* fast that a NIN can't deal with it, especially in Burst mode. In 3 runs our NIN never went below 700 HP, and that was only cause of the rare Charged Whisker. Perhaps if its a gimp NIN with zero skill they'll get owned, but NINs completely dominate Macan.

I'm not gonna comment on PLD/NIN cause I'm sure it can work, but NIN > PLD/ANYTHING for sure. I've never fought such an easy BCNM and can't wait till I have more seals to do it again. I also got my rope =D.

As for the WHM, if they have it I highly recommend SMN as subjob, with NIN tank they really don't use a lot of MP at all, and with Auto Refresh they keep plenty of MP...especially if a RDM is not your third member. Someone posted a video of NIN DRG WHM owning the BCNM. I'm fairly certain WHM NIN DD works in general. RDM works really well in this BCNM, back up cures which weren't needed in my runs, Haste Refresh and nukes do good damage, double the MP pool with Convert. Also, Macan can be Aspir'ed. With my Dark Staff on I would get 50-80, which was an extra nuke. 2/3 on ropes, I highly recommend this BCNM, easy, fun, good drops.

first of all, i'm going to give you guys a tip, you can evade petrify!! after the cat casts burst run away from it and it will say "X is too far away" that way you can avoid any danger and whm gets more mp. awesome trick, i did it myself with my cousin's char.

now... my story

i have done 6 runs in total, in all 6 I had NIN/WAR WHM/BLM BLM/WHM (me)

in the first three I had a retarded WHM, casting waterga on the cat and didn't cast stona on time.
the ninja was very intelligent with good equipment, unfortunately he did not last long with such a stupid whm and he died when the cat was around 60%HP.
on the second run, we didn't die, but time ran out because the stupid WHM didn't do anything and I had to heal nuke debuff and sometimes tank when NIN was petrified, time ran out when the cat was 5%HP, same on the 3rd run.

Now, the perfect strategy, on the next 3 runs I had a very good WHM and another awesome NIN
and an uber BLM (me ^^)

we enter, buff up and haste the NIN, NIN goes in and vokes the cat,the cat hits a few times and then, BANG!,charged whisker, whm healed the NIN and fight goes on, then the cat decides to cast Thundaga so BLM (me) silenced him before he can finish his casting, then the NIN tanked until the cat was no longer silenced and casted Burst,
I kept nuking and Aspiring, aspir is really useful if you run out of mp, after the cat casted burst, the NIN ran away and the message "Macan Gadangan readies Petrificative Breath" "Thunderbolt is too far away" `appeared.
after 8 mins we had severely slaughtered him. the 3 runs were the same as the first.

CONCLUSIONS :
1.- Retarded WHM = doom
2.- Using the runaway trick lets the NIN keep the shadows in order and never get hit or petrified.
3.- the NIN doesn't need uber expensive good equipment, just needs to have decent skills and to be intelligent.

Items BLM (me) used: Hi-Ether x5 , Yagudo Drink x10 , Melon Pie +1 x3

Items WHM used: Ether x3 , Yagudo Drink x6.

I hope this story helps you guys get your Penitent's Ropes ^^

PLD tank for WWW

Strat for PLD/NIN, BST/WHM, WHM/SMN

Bring 3x yagudo drinks per fight. A pamama au lait can be handy if you feel like it. Not necessary but it's nice to have some extra padding.

Buff up normally, including Utsusemi. Protect, Shell, eat food, yadda yadda. Rest the WHM to full.

Move to the entrance of the circle. Courier Carrie gets sent in while everyone else stays back. WHM casts Barthundra at some point. Let Carrie tank the couerl until it starts to cast a spell. If it's Burst, the BST can either pull Carrie back or they can just let Carrie (probably) die and resummon later. Doesn't matter much... Carrie'll drop after a few Charged Whiskers anyway and need a resummon, probably. By letting Carrie take this initial brunt of the damage, you make the rest of the fight a lot easier. Carrie has a ton of HP and can put a dent in the cat's HP, so let her do her thing until it starts to cast. ^^

If it's not Burst, obviously, silence the cat.

Now this is where it gets a little dangerous... and I emphasize "little", because you'd have to suck to lose this BCNM after you've seen how it works once. Anyway, as silence lands, have the PLD go in and Flash the cat. BST and PLD engage. The tricky part is that the cat can be a handful with Charged Whisker and Pounce dealing a lot of damage. Normal NIN tanks can be wiped out at this point with a single Charged Whisker + a nasty double attack round of crits with no shadows after the AOE, and it's one reason I prefer being a PLD.

The cat attacks extremely fast and double attacks what seemed like 50% of the time. You cannot fit Cure III in between the attack rounds, and you have to actually be careful about Flash timing. Paralyze is extremely potent against him, and Slow means you can get a Cure III off between attack rounds. I can't stress how powerful these spells are in this BCNM. They're more important than Barthundra, because Charged Whisker will blast right through your resists and hit for the full amount (381 on me) about 75% of the time.

However, when Silence wears off, the fight's over. Switch to dual swords after your next WS and tear the cat apart. You've basically won, if you have a Paladin tank. It's virtually impossible to lose, though there's still a little risk with a NIN tank... and this is why I vastly prefer going as PLD. No risk is better than a little risk. The rest of the fight will basically go like this...

At that point the fight is basically over, like I said. Do whatever you want. The poor ******* won't even hit the PLD... ever. Burst goes off, whiffs on the remaining Utsusemi shadows, then immediately gets Flashed and has like a 2% accuracy rate for about six seconds... which is long enough for it to go back to Burst.

If you have a NIN tank, I'd recommend having the WHM use Flash after Stona. You'd be surprised how ridiculously fast this thing can strip shadows. It's not all that much slower than a mob with Hundred Fists, or perhaps it just seems like that because it'll nail you with constant double attacks.

Cat hit for 90-130 on a decently equipped PLD eating meat chiefkabobs, and could crit for 200'ish. Charged Whisker hit for 381... Barthundra occasionally lowered this to double digits. Pounce hit for 90 once (blocked), 250-400'ish unblocked. While he's super easy once he's in Burst mode if you know what you're doing, don't underestimate him at the start. If you get unlucky, the couerl can annihilate a NIN before the WHM can stand up and finish casting a cure, and it hits fast enough that timing Utsusemi: Ni isn't as easy as it usually is. That's not an exaggeration. 400'ish whisker + 200-400 (or more) damage in one round of melee with double attack + another hyper-fast round of melee or even its "recharge TP" move + another Charged Whisker or Pounce = serious pain in a very short amount of time.

Don't slack off at the start. This cat can come out of left field and annihilate you. Don't even completely let your guard down once he's in Burst mode. While it'd be extremely, unusually rare for the cat to go buck wild at that point... it's possible. The couerl will not always cast Burst as quickly as it usually does, and it will not always petrify after Burst.

Play smart and you'll win, though be ready to eat a death on the first try if any PT members aren't on the top of their game. I really can't say it enough; this couerl can rip it up in a very brief period of time if it decides to be cheap.

However, I also encourage people to realize that they don't need a NIN... and imo a NIN isn't even the preferred tank for this with all the AOE and super fast hits, though obviously NIN can do it very well too. I'd take a PLD/NIN over a NIN/WAR any day. BST is great to have along to minimize risk at the beginning.

Go get 'em!

We're 2/3. The first time we screwed up badly and had to reorganize our priorities and methods. The second and third times were absurdly easy. It's all about knowing what to do. Unfortunately, we're 0/2 on Penitents. Still, a few hundred k each time is decent. Planning on going three more times next weekend.

I'm 4/4 on this bcnm and 4/4 on Rope dropping. It's very simple if everyone knows what they're doing. Try to fight on a full moon for better drops. The fight should take 5-10 minutes.

Party setup:
whm/blm
nin/war
rdm/nin

Go in, buff up, get started.

The whm's only job is to cast Haste (on both rdm + nin), Stona, Paralyna, Silena, and Barthundra. The whm should *NOT* cast cure except for emergencies. The *RDM* will cure. This way if the Nin loses hate, the mob goes after the defended rdm/nin instead of the much more vulnerable whm.

The rdm is the damage dealer. You keep up Stoneskin, Phalanx, Enstone, and Utsusemi: Ichi, and of course Refresh. Also, keep the Torama debuffed with Silence and Dia II. If you go in with some cheap +damage/+acc gear and dual-wield Enstoned swords, you will own this cat. Don't worry about the AoE's. With all your buffs, Thundaga II probably won't break your Stoneskin and rdm's have that useless Resist Petrify trait that you completely forgot about.

The ninja just does their normal thing. Voke, keep up Utsusemi, do the other debuffs. Watch out for Thundaga, other than that it should go like a normal exp Torama.

Blade:Chi >> Fast Blade = Distortion
Makes a nice skillchain. Don't waste mp on magic bursts, they won't do effective damage.

i know many people still come here to reference these fights, so i'd like to add my two cents.

i'll only tell the truth, that which actually happened, avoiding any baised and misleading assumptions.

i had with me (60 blm) a nin and whm. the whm said that he "regretted" having not subbed smn.

the nin did his thing.

the whm was awesome with stona and resting. also with the silences i couldn't stick.

the mob by nature is weak to fire, so i tried to stick with the fire spells (fire II and firaga II) while attempting to keep it silenced, stuned (which was resisted a LOT but still worked), paralyzed, blinded, poisoned, boi-ed, and frosted. both the whm and myself, the blm, aspired often. i also ended each fight with a fitting elemental seal + burst since we were kicking the daylights out of it.

i'll add i pulled a tad of hate the second fight mid debuffing before my first rest, but the ninja easily recovered it.

as for drops, i got the walkrum. but i was vying for the penitent's rope which sadly never dropped for any of us. we all, however, recieved adaman ore.

so there's my two cents. learn what you will, improve what you will, and have fun (it's what games are for)!!!

I did this BCNM with 2 ninjas, and a whm... and we found out some very interesting things.

Initially it will start casting some spell. If it casts burst, it will always cast burst, and if it casts non-burst spell, it will always cast non-burst spells. The non burst spells hurt the most on ninja, so the goal is to make it cast burst only.

If you silence it, once it has become un-silenced it will then ALTERNATE to the opposite mode. Eg if it just cast thundaga II, and was since silenced, once it has un-silenced it will only cast burst.

Secondly, after burst goes off the mob will ALWAYS use an ability. So far the type of ability has been random, but we timed it so that once burst goes off we run away and we get the "you are out of range" message.

So there you have it. Foolproof strategy for beating this BC.

Credits to Hex for noticing the JA pattern, and Grumn for tipping us off on the silence pattern (and myself and lightl for finally getting it right after a few deaths lol).

Did this 5 times went 5/5... although we pushed the time limit on some. Setup was WHM, BLM, NIN. I recommend having a both a skilled WHM and skilled NIN. Stona, Paralyna, and Silena needed quickly. We did as the guide suggested and waited to see what he was casting, then ES Silence to change to AM mode. Easy fight if you have the MP. Aeshettr (taru) used 3 yags and 3 pots a fight. I could have done a lot more DD (hume) but just didn't have that much mp. I used FiragaII frequently and we never had a hate issue. Thank you Aeshetter and Elvin for helping me get rope, and again great job.

Everything that you said is correct. It helped our group greatly while doing this BC.

well I just tried my luck at this twice... with 2 deaths as a reward.

First try can chalked up to a very bad whm... that just felt like not taking care of their stona job.

Second try was alittle different though... Everything went well and then the damn thing start dropping the breath attack NON-STOP! Got it down to 40% and the whm just ran out of MP... I dont know if things would of been different if we hada taru whm (ours was hume). I was the only 1 not at lvl 60 (lvl 56 thf). Could I of picked a job that let it build TP way too fast?

I am thinking about doing it again as a THF/BRD so that I still have the sata power but I can use mage balled also. Aother part of that plan is to have a PLD/nin tanking, only using shadow for the big attack.

Any thoughts on my plan?

I think having a WHM that knows exactly what he's doing is key to the whole BCNM if using the ninja setup. If you havn't seen the video I posted below, the WHM in that vid was awesome. He would cast Stona before the breath animation finished. Thus, I could then cast the next Utsusemi if needed to and avoid hits altogether. He would then rest right after for a tic or 2 of mp all the while keeping me Hasted.

If the WHM runs out of MP, it's usually because he's doing too much curing. Things can turn sour really really quickly and that is where the Ninja and Whm work together whether it be Blind, Flash, or Slow (never did like paralyze on this NM). I've had times where I've died at the end or WHM end with 3 mp and still win. But usually if you can survive until it casts Burst again, it'll be ok.

Regarding being level 56, I've never done it with anyone under 60 so I can't really say too much about how much difference it would make.

I'm not sure if there's anything else I can add so I'll just end it here. Good luck again^^

a 4 lvl difference in a lvl 60 bcnm is a tad bit risky thats 60 seals downt the drain. My recommendation get 60 first on your thf, and you should be alright. Have your Whm sub /SMN if possible for mp regen so that he/she still has MP to spare.
As for me our usual set up when we do this BCNM is Elvaan=Nin/war tarutaru=Rdm/blm and Elvaan=Whm/Blm
We have done this run with no failures yet (Keeps fingers crossed) Our whm is always on the ball with status removal. Basically this set up you really dont have to bring meds, but its good for a precaution(first several fights i brought meds yag drinks x9 and 1 stack of wizzy cookies) After i got use to the fight pattern i only bring wiz cookies. The fight does take around 10 mins or so. Main job of RDM refresh, enfeeble, nuke and silence till mr cat does burst mode. I dont got to explain what the NIN and WHM are there for. All in all pretty easy BCNM if NOTHING goes WRONG, then again one time our run almost went to **** after we found out NIN didnt have pants on lol. It was funny we still won, but man entering a BCNM with NIN wearing no pants classic.

Just thought I'd add a video of my fight. Party is NIN, WHM, DRG. Like many have said, a ninja and a whm make this thing much easier. The WHM in the video did a great job keeping haste and was quick with the stona.

As for the third member, I like to play it safe and have them wait a minute or 2 before engaging. For melee, I like whatever job go /thf and TA Weaponskill on me. Otherwise, I've only lost once when I forgot to cast Utsusemi after it opened with Charged Whisker.

We did two runs.

First run the mob cast Thundaga II twice and the NIN went down. I as the WHM failed to cast Cure IV fast enough.. /guilt on RDM Got one Cure III in.

Second run we kept the mob debuffed, and the NIN topped up at all times.

Paralyze was our friend, but we just couldn't get Silence to stick.

I realised you can cast Stona as the Coeurl petrify attacks for instant removal.

Stay on top of the heals, mob debuffs, status cures, aand rest were you can. Took time. And focus.

Drops: Adaman Ore, Mythril Ingot, 3 HQ Coeurl Hides, Teleport Mea Ring, Icarus Wing, Hermes Quencher, and the craptastic Gleeman's belt.

I can sell all this for around 400k on bahamut.

/sigh
Both me and the RDM wanted the Penitent's Rope, not gil.

Time to go farm seals.

Good luck.

Possible thf tank?

this may sound kinda dumb, but could a Thf/Nin possibly tank this with Rdm/Blm, Whm/Blm backup?
Tough but fun

Me and my Linkshell leader duo'd this, me as whm and him as nin. He was bored basically and wanted something fun to do, so we decided to try it lol. Went in and won first time ^^. It's quite a tough fight, you have to be very careful with your mp, usually after each fight (we decided to go back and take peoples along from ls who needed p.rope :) I would have less than 100. Thats whm/smn using Yag drinks and wizard cookies during the fight. Didnt need ethers, but I recommend taking some incase the **** hits the fan.Duo'ing it seems to be easier than with 3 people lol, my boyfriend took his ninja along to, and the mob started using things like charged whisker which was nasty :3. Other than that the only thing to worry about was his spamming Petrification breath like it was going out of fashion ^^;. My advice (for whms going in for this) - use yag drink right away, buff up, run in silence him first, Dia him then just keep resting your mp and stand up soon as you seem him ready petrification breath. Keep your nin hasted too :)

p.s. got 2 rope drops from 6 runs, but only 2/5 on rope as we died on one run (my seals ; ;) because ninja got smacked by burst. Too busy trying to play 2 pcs at once, he'd bought his other chars 67 thf in to help, and was running him about for SA and TA lol.

If you even think about doing this without the only job that can cast Stona, you may as well toss your orb now. A RDM cannot replace a WHM for this BCNM.

Pergatory's description is incredibly detailed and accurately portrays what to expect.

I think my group (WHM, NIN, and BLM) were 4/5. The only time we lost was at the start of the battle when the NIN lost his shadows and was criticaled twice in a row getting him into the red (Tarutaru NIN). I flashed the mob and the mob did its whisker move killing the NIN. Otherwise it was very easy. We only did it so many times because we wanted to get a rope for myself and the BLM.
