Follow Prishe to Cape Riverne on the Misareaux Coast. It is rumored a wyrm nests there...

Walkthrough

After speaking with Ulmia and returning to Tavnazian Safehold (Mission 2-4), "Ancient Vows" should now appear in your CoP mission log. In this mission, you will be traveling through Riverne - Site #A01, an area that is capped at level 40. Note that as of the September 2008 update, level appropriate gear is not required for level-capped areas. However, it may be recommended for optimum performance.

To begin, head to the Dilapidated Gate in (F-7) of Misareaux Coast to trigger a cut scene featuring the three infamous Tarutarus, Cherukiki, Makki-Cherukiki, Kukki-Cherukki. Once you are on the other side of the gate, you will see a "Spatial Displacement." Entering the displacement will warp you into Riverne - Site #A01.

To get through Riverne - Site #A01, you must go through four more spatial displacements until you finally reach the BC area. To get through the second and third displacements, you will need to trade a Dragon Scale, which is dropped by Firedrakes. They spawn in the area between the first and second displacement. You will need two Dragon Scales to get through the entire Riverne - Site #A01.

Once you enter from Misareaux Coast, the first spatial displacement is in (L-8). Once you enter this displacement you will be in the area where the Firedrakes spawn. After you have two Dragon Scales, trade one scale to the "Unstable Displacement" in (G-10) and you will be warped into the third area. This area has Atomic Clusters that aggro to sight and magic, so get invisible up and head to the displacement in (E-10) and trade the other Dragon Scale and enter the unstable displacement. This next area is filled with incredibly tough mobs that have true sight, so be careful. Just walk along to right edge to reach the last displacement.

Entering this displacement will warp you to an uncapped area of Monarch Linn where you can enter the Level 40 cap Boss BC area. This uncapped area is a good place to go over fighting strategy and make sure all macros are working properly. After entering the Battlefield, you will receive a cut scene. Now is a good time for the White Mage to cast Reraise. Defeating the three Mammet-19 Epsilons will end this mission.

The Mammet-19 Epsilons are capable of switching jobs during battle. Yellow Liquid, when used, will lock the targeted Mammet's job for around 30 seconds. The different jobs are identified by the weapon the mammet is wielding. The mammets' jobs and abilities are as follows: In any given form, they can use the move Tremorous Tread, which does AOE Damage and stun. It can be absorbed by shadows.

  • No weapon - The mammets' original form.
    • Transmogrification - While active, the mammet will absorb all physical damage dealt to it and convert it to HP.
  • Sword - Fast attack speed
    • Scission Thrust - Directional AOE attack
    • Sonic Blade - AOE Attack
    • Velocious Blade - Five hit single target attack
  • Staff - Slow attack speed, uses -ga elemental magic, has lower defense.
    • Mind Wall - While in effect, any damage dealt to the mammet by elemental magic spells will be absorbed and converted to HP.
    • Psychomancy - AOE Apsir type effect that drains 80+ MP from everyone in range.
  • Polearm - Hits hard but attack speed is rather slow.
    • Gravity Wheel - AOE Damage with Gravity effect.
    • Microquake - Single target damage
    • Percussive Foin - Direction AOE damage

The most common strategy is to have two of the mammets kited and to kill them off one at a time. Jobs that are good at kiting in this mission are:

  • RDM/NIN with good evasion gear
  • BST with jug pets
  • SMN with Carbuncle

Once you defeat all of the Mammet-19 Epsilons, there will be a cut scene after which you will be teleported to South Gustaberg.

Yeah, as someone else mentioned, the above setup is brutal. Do yourself a favor and go:

PLD/WAR
NIN/WAR
WHM/
RDM/
And two DDs that can put out damage in a hurry (MNK, RNG, SAM)

The NIN takes one and just blinktanks it. No running around, nothing. Just walks up and attacks it like normal.

The RDM kites another. Run it around, bind works okay.

The PLD tanks the last one while the DDs unload on it. A PLD is better for this than a NIN simply because the PLD will hold hate longer, and when he does finally lose it Meik, Hundred Fists, or EES with assorted WSs and Icarus Wings, he can cover someone too.

WHM heals everyone. Stand in a central location if you're the WHM.

After the first one is dead, you're home free. The PLD vokes the RDM's mammet and the DDs follow right along. The WHM might be running low on mp at this point, he was pretty busy. So he can rest and the RDM can convert and pick up the healing duties for awhile. The NIN keeps doing his thing with the other mammet- hurting him a little but focusing on staying alive.

The second mammet will take longer because the DDs shouldn't have already 2hred and used Icarus Wings. By the time it's done, the NIN wil have built so much hate up that nothing you do to the last mammet matters. The NIN is tanking it no matter how full out the DDs will (or can, at that point) go and you win.

Instead of trying to have a RDM/NIN kite a mammet for literally 7-10 minutes. That's insane. And how exactly can two RNGs go all out to kill the first mammet as quickly as possible (which is very important) if there's just a NIN tanking it?

I'm sure you can win using the the strategy above, but it's certainly not the easiest way to go.
notes on how my group beat this

setup:
pld/war
whm/blm (me)
smn/whm
sam/war
nin/war (kiter)
rng/nin (kiter)

we used the kiting method as you can guess. the nin kited very well, i would occasionally heal her as she ran by and she would voke to keep it off me. The rng, i don't know how, but never got hit the whole time he kited it was copmletely unexpected but awesome.

Some notes... we gave all yellow liquids to the pld. He would use them whenever they used their no weapon form, that helped a lot. The fight we won I only got to use one yag drink and that was it, b/c i was all out. The smn used a couple that fight. We were almost totally out of items by then. Silence was on and off as a whm /capped enfeelbe. It might stick two blm forms in a row, but then resist 3 attempts the next time. Don't know what was up with that. Even so only two people (pld and sam) were ever within -ga range so it didn't even end up being a big deal. Having anyone who can backup heal is almost a must, but I hardly expect a party setup would be without it anyway.

Overview of our winning fight:
So as I said rng and nin kited, and i would occasionally heal the nin and she would voke it off me. Made sure to haste both kiters for their utsusemi. When we got the first one down to about 2/3 health the smn two houred. One judgement bolt went off fine, then SAM saw transmogrification, so smn stopped. We waited, so she was only able to get off a second judgement bolt. It was still a huge amount of damage, took it down to less than a third I think. At some point, i'm not sure when, the melees used icarus wings. I'm not sure when that happened b/c I saw SC's go off way more than i thought would be possible (only a SAM and PLD doing melee). But we just worked the first one down from there and it died. So then we took the rng's. Rng got to use his hour (at about 1/2 health), plus with the extra damage from rangers normal attacks, this one went down very fast. Rng also stayed out of -ga ranged, using his xbow only. This was a very big help to me b/c it's much harder to heal 3 people than 2 after a blm -ga, or the AoE stun/damage attack. Then when there's only one left it's pretty much a push-over, although I was out of mp by then and the smn had to take over healer for the most part. Still we won and I was uber excited as you could guess.

*edit* I almost forgot to mention: paralyze works very well. keep it on them at all times!

Very bad setup
# Mar 28 2005 at 2:05 PM Rating: Decent
Sorry, the setup described up at the top sucks. Kiting doesn't work, rdm is best left to do what an rdm does best - cure, enfeeble and nuke, not training with /nin. Gravity never landed, bind resisted 80% of the time, and everyone else was having a hard time because 2 players were essentially out of the battle and sucking up the whm's mp for cures whenever blinks went down because there is no way you can recast fast enough if they start hitting you - it was like being hit by a samurai with 100 fists.

I agree it is better to leave kiting up to either Beast or summoner, works great. Smn's are a must have to beat this easily.

Cleared this other night. This battle was challenging and fun. Took some planning, and player skill...but it was worth it.

The party:

NIN/WAR
RNG/NIN (me)
RNG/NIN
RDM/NIN
BLM/WHM
WHM/SMN

The Plan:

RDM and NIN would kite 2 of them. The RNG's, BLM and WHM would kill the first. RNG's would bounce hate with Utsusemi, Barrages and WS. BLM would Silence and nuke. One RNG would use EES on the first Mammet at 25% HP, and 2nd RNG would try to save his for 2nd Mammet. We would fight in the tunnel, and the kiters would kite in the field. Once the first was down, the NIN would bring his over to kill, while the RDm continued to kite. Once 2nd was down, RDM would bring hers in for the kill. Everyone had Hi-Potions and/or Ethers. We also had yellow liquids.

Things to watch:

Jobs: We noticed 4:

No-Job: Fights hand to hand, and has no weapon. Hits slow and weak. No visible weapon skills. Best form to keep it in with liquid

DRG-Type: Uses a polearm, so people call it a dragoon. However, it does not have a wyvern, so it could be a SAM. Anyway, the polearm is slow, weak, and inaccurate. Even the WS it uses is pretty weak. 2nd best form to keep it in.

BLM-Type: Uses a staff (looks like a shovel) and likes to cast -ga spells. No noticeable weapon skills. This form is a joke if you can keep it silenced. If not, it is very deadly. Our BLM had no problems silencing them, but dont rely on this. Only lock it in BLM with yellow liquid if silence lands.

WAR-Type: The worst type. Uses a sword. Hits fast, hard, and accurate. Has a devastating weapon skill that hit me for 325. Avoid this job at all costs.

The moves:

Transmog-whatever: It absorbs physical attacks. You will get a battle message stating it used it. Also, the animation is easy to see. 2 rings appear around the Mammet, one by its feet, the other by its head, the move towards each other and join at the Mammets waste. During this time, all the melee should turn around. The most annoying thing we noticed is that there is no indication that it wore off. What we did is have the RNG;s turn around every now and then and hit it with a dagger, as it does little dmg, and would heal it for very little. Once a dagger hurt it, we began the assault again. This move is what makes this battle take so long. They us it alot.

Mind Wall: Absorbs magic attacks. Only 1 of them used this once when we fought. Never saw it again. Solution...dont nuke. Cast Banish after a bit, they are strong to light, so it cant cure them that much. If it aborbs it, wait a bit longer, if not...have at it.

The Leg Sweep: cant remember its actual name, but it looks like a Bruce Lee leg sweep. Its similar to Whirl of Rage from a weapon. Its a short range AoE that dmg's you and stuns you. The Mammets love this move and use it often. It happens without warning, so you just have to eat it. The Stun duration is not too long, but its not short either.

Run #1 Loss: This ended pretty quick. The issue we had was that the kiters had all the yellow liquid. Kiters do not need it. Doesn't matter what job their Mammet is, as it shouldn't be hitting them much anyway. The one 1 pulled to kill first switched to WAR right out of the gate and went to work on me. Once my shadows wore off, the other RNG missed his macro for his WS, so he didnt pull hate off me. The Mammet used something like Epsilon Slash/Slice or something like that and hit me for 325..sending me to the ground. Everyone esle escaped, except the NIN, who held the 3 of them off until the other 4 could get out.

We raised, and all yellow liquid was given to the RNG's.

Run #2 Victory. Went pretty smooth. Kiters did well. I used EES at 25% on the first one, and a few ranged attacks finished it off. Me and the other RNG had taken very little dmg as we bounced hate really well. NIN brought his over and we went to work on it. Much easier with a true tank in the mix. We had it down to 10% HP when it spammed the leg sweep right after I used Flaming Arrow. It kept me stunned and just kept beating on me. The WHM tried to heal me, but I took dmg way to fast. Couldnt get Ichi or a Hi-pot off and I went down. Other RNG used EES and the 2nd was dead. Just before I went down, the RDM took a good amount of dmg and was in the red. Our WHM was quick on his feet, ran out to her, cured her, and came back to us. I died shortly after, but so did the Mammet. The third and final one was easy, even with 1 dead RNG. No kiters to worry about now. We kept it locked as DRG and it was disposed of quite easily. The BLM manafonted near the end as her MP was running low.

The key is killing the first one with everyone in good shape afterwards. Once you are down to 2, its much easier. RDM/NIN's make excellent kiters due to Bind, Utsusemi, and the ability to cure themselves. NIN do quite well also. If you have a NIN/WAR kiting one of them, pull their's 2nd. The 2nd one is much easier with a true tank.

Me and my ls buddies just completed this tonight. 1st try :D

Setup: Nin/Warx2 Rng/Ninx2 Smn/Whm Whm/Blm(me)

Well, we had read the strat and were ready to take it on according to what we had read. At the last second our Smn decided it would be best if HE kites 1 Epsi with his avatars and 1 Nin kites the other, while our 2nd Nin tanks for the 2 Rngs. This actually ended up being an fairly easy fight. Our 1st nin quickly aggro'ed and started tanking the Left Epsi our Smn started working on the center Epsi and the rest started to work on the right Epsi. As a whm point of view i was keeping the solo Nin hasted while dropping cures on the other pt members as much as possible(hi ethers a must). Dropping regens as much as possible and just making sure no one died. After the 2nd Nin and Rng got through with the 1st Epsi, we went to work on the Smn's Epsi since the 1st Nin did an amazing job holding the other Epsi while we went to town on the other 2. There really isn't that much to it. A pt pf level headed people can easily win this fight in their first try. i have to admit though, i did lose 1 rng to death towards the end of the fight, he knows why. ^^ Don't understimate the fight either, lots of hi-potions, hi-ethers and yag drinks made this a success. Be prepared and use some common sense and it's in the bag.

What my party discovered and detailed below is that there's not even a need to Kite them.

And why I said the guide took a more dangerous approach.

Nins can literally straight up tank these things just like they do in EXP parties.

Using two Rdms with convert actings as healers keep them healed the sidecar Nins can straight up solo them. While the Ranger or Blm and War/Nin straight up kill the main target.

It results in a much more controlled fight and the sidecar Nins are able to damage their respective targets while the main is being killed.

While Kiting can indeed work, Nin/War's really don't need to bother with it.
Yellow Liquid <3

Ok, just did this and all I've got to say is "HOLY CRAP!... THAT WAS so.... easy"

I took w/e PT setup I could find and here's what I got: nin(me), nin, bst, whm, sam/rng, mnk. We did a run before but it was w/ 2 JP's so I could only use auto-translate to explain the fight ><; didn't go so well (setup on that was: pld, nin(me), blm, whm, sam/rng, mnk). The PLD and WHM we're JP... sooo.. needless to say he didn't know that you need to pull that mob back to the tunnel and ended up fighting in the middle, and the whm decided to toss a few cures to the people kiting >< big mistake. I'll tell you this, it wasn't the PT setup, it wasn't the fact that they didn't understand they needed to pull back, the Major difference was that on the second run we ALL had bought Yellow liquid O.O omg it worked soooooo well.

So here's what went down: The BST and the other NIN were taking the Left and right and understood that they needed to keep them running around in circles AND (most importantly) use their yellow liquid right away (woot!). All 3 mob's were stuck for 2 min. w/o being able to use any special attacks. so we pulled ours back to the tunnel and began whacking away at it. About a min. into the fight he used his physical shield, I assume that's b/c the Sam/Rng used his 2hr and did more dmg than I was doing with my Ninjutsu nukes (Ni spells), all they did was turn their backs to the mob and let me nuke away so we could still do dmg to it. It transformed into the BLM next and kept -ga spell's flying and right when we got silence to stick he changed into WAR mode, but the thing was that it didn't matter b/c we were able to attack it again after about 20-30s after it did it's physical barrier and I never once stopped w/ the "Ni" nukes. Yes, the WAR mode he was doing Detontation SC's off us for about 1/3rd our HP I really didn't notice too much b/c we were kicking it's butt in the meantime. The first mob died in about 4-5 min. (WOOT!). Next we took the BST's mob b/c the BST took a little bit of dmg doing this, his CourierCarrie survived the entire time he was Kiting b/c he just kept it running around in circles so his pet was at about 50% Hp after those 4 or 5 min. we were killing the middle mob. The thing had gone into SAM mode and I used a yellow liquid, it wasn't too bad he had low def. and even tho he spammed some AoE stun WS attack we took it down fast using the same tactic's as before (when it uses Transphiguration or w/e we just turned our backs and I kept doing my Ninjutsu) and this time the BST's Pet helped us while the BST was running around w/ the nin, >.> idk why the BST felt like excersize or something b/c the NIN didn't get hit a single time while kiting. Ok 3rd one *phew* (so close to victory) this one pulled out BLM right away and I figgured "wtf, Yellow Liquid away!" So I used my last liquid and to my surprise he was doing AoE stun also ><; btw this does Detonation SC's when he spams it X.x Found that out b/c our MNK decided to 2hr off it, so it was pissed. The WHM had about 200 Mp resting when she could and even tossed in some Banish, Banishga, ect. He did the "Trans w/e" so we all just turned our backs and this one was stupid easy b/c me and the other NIN and the WHM we're just Nuking the crap outta it. The monk got in a couple hits of his 2hr before it was over. We were down to around 50% Hp at the end (I had almost full Hp tho <.<;) The MNK ended up w/ the lowest HP (117Hp) but that was b/c the mob was doing Multiple Detonation SC's off him. What an awesome fight it was (woot!) Not a new record or anything 17m 13s, we waited 4 min. before we ran out b/c the BST wanted to wait till call beast was ready again, and wanted to make sure the NIN kiting had haste on before the WHM was too busy to help.

We all brought along as many Hi-potions, X-potions, Hi-either, Yag. drinks, as we thought nessicarry and I only ended up using 2 or 3 X-potions the whole fight. It was only to help the WHM save her Mp b/c after failing 3 times I noticed the WHM ran low on Mp around 10 Min. into the fight each time.

Seemed like Yellow Liquid is the Key to success here. ^^; Hope this post really helped.
Some corrections to the guide
# Mar 21 2005 at 11:03 AM Rating: Good
I will have to say the general strategy that was presented earlier concerning Rdms Kiting one was for whatever reason completely off.

We beat this thing and it took us 2 runs, the first run failed because we went by the general strategy of this guide with the Idea of Rdms Kiting.

Out first time (The failed run)

Nin/War
War/Nin
Rng/nin
Rng/nin
Rdm/whm
Rdm/blm

Nin/War take the left one
War/Nin Take Middle (Rest on this target until dead)
Rdm/Blm gravity Kite the right one

One problem: Gravity Does not stick on these. Between me and the other Rdm we casted it a good 10 times and it did not stick once, even with Elemental seal. I can guarantee you the Rdm/Blm was well equipped (Better than most Blms at 40th). I was going with Int heavy gear to stick gravity.

Neither Rdm could gravity them, both of us were able to Bind them though.

Kiting failed. The second time we tried something different.

Our successful run

War/Nin
Nin/War
Nin/War
Rng/Nin
Rdm/Whm (taru)
Rdm/Whm (hume)

This time we decided to straight up fight them. War/Nin take the Middle, Nin/War's take right and left. Rng on Middle target with War/Nin.

Nin #1 Pulls his mob to the left, Nin #2 pulls his mob to the right so the AE's of the Mobs don't overlap. It then becomes a straight up fight with the Ranger on the Warrior’s Target. Nins directly fight their mob to hold them off.

Rdm's it's just like BCNM 40 with the Mandragoras where the Rdm keeps the Bard alive while he holds off the onions using convert to double their Manapool. In this case the Rdms Keep the Nin’s and the Warrior alive by migrating within casting distance of each combatant moving back and forth between them. Rdm’s also Paralyze (very effective), Slow, and Dia each mob and keep them that way.

Even with Convert and in essence a double sized Magic Point Pool of an Rdm I still had to use 2 High Ethers at the end of the fight when the they were all on the last one while.

But we controlled that fight from start to finish and never lost control of that fight at any point. If you want a safe fight where you never lose control, this is my recommended tactic.

On a side note,

Both Rdms did nuke a little when the Melee Resist special defense of the Mobs was up.

So that may be why the Hi Ethers were required towards the end.

In essence the Rdms acted as both healers and nukers at various points. Yag Drinks, solid gear and Hi-ethers made this doable.

I did this with:

BSt/Nin
Bst/Nin
Nin/War
War/nin
Rng/Nin
Whm/blm

Well, both BST kited the mobs. War rng and nin took the first mob dead real fast, we used both 2 hours (War and RNG). After 1 mob is death all is REAL EASY.

Also, BST while kiting was real easy. Just get with you some X-potion and Hi-potion, use the macro /item "potion name" <me> It will help you a lot. Use courrier carrier and pet food zeta.

Also, we near broke the record... just for 15 sec ; ;

Note: Forgot to write the War/Nin job.

When I did this as BST, my pet only lasted a few minutes even with a Pet Food Zeta. But that's not a BST's only kiting trick; Charm Binds uncharmable mobs for a few seconds, and can be reused every 15 seconds. Very effective for keeping the mammets at a distance.

Still didn't win the fight. We had some impressions though. Our pt was relying mostly on melee damage (MNK+NIN+THF). The mammets used Transmogrification A LOT of times and Magic Wall not a single time. So, it is used like a TP attack dependant on melee damage or SE really hates us. On next try we're going to balance melee and magic damage to see how it works.

As for Transmogrification, some people told me that Yellow Liquid cancels that. Is it true?

This by far has been the toughest fight I have done. 3 tries - 3 losses - though we were very close on the last one. On the last one our party config was:

pld/war, rng/nin, blm/whm, blm/whm, thf/nin and rdm/blm.

Our strategy was to kill the first one as fast as possible while the thf/nin and rdm/blm kited the other two. Our main mess up on the first one was that the mob transmorphed such that it absorbed phyiscal attacks right as the rng barrage and ws. Nonetheless we took it out relatively quick. We had one blm manafont for first one.

We took the 2nd one off the rdm/blm and had the other blm manafont while the first blm used ethers etc to get mp back and helped back up cure pld (pld had tons of hi-potions). Rdm was supposed to help thf with kiting 3rd mob - but I think RDM got confused and thf wound up dying before we finished 2nd mob. RDM died shortly thereafter. Right about that time we took out the 2nd mob. Only prob was that this mob did 2 nasty -ga spells at the end that took everyone to very low hp.

3rd mob came and smacked up pld faster than he could heal himself after nasty -ga spells. PLD dead. Ranger took it on at this point but mob ate through utsusemi quick and since the the rng and the two remaining blms all had very low mp - the rng died fairly quickly. At this point only the two blms were left - both with little MP and using hi-ethers takes so long... well you can figure out how it ended.

We were so frustrated that we are taking a week off from this mission before trying again...

Why didn't you guys use reraise items? It seems that you were able to kill off 2 before anyone died. At that point you should have all run back into the tunnel and tried to kill the last one off there. If you had gotten killed, let the last NM wander back to its starting location and then have everyone reraise (far enough away from the NM) and rest until full.

At this point, you have 6 healthy people taking on just 1 NM. Should be easy then.

PLD/NIN?
# Mar 15 2005 at 8:57 AM Rating: Decent
Think that a PLD/NIN could take the place of a RDM as a kite, were I to have enough potions/ethers? I don't have NIN/WAR, WHM, RNG, or RDM anywhere near level to do this and it's going to be done later this week by the LS...I've heard tell of PLD subbing NIN to kite gods before, granted they have Utsusemi: Ni by that level.

I think these are all the special attacks that the different forms have:

All Mammet forms: Tremorous Tread (AoE minor damage and stun).

Sword: Velocious Blade (5x attack, major damage), Sonic Blade (single target high damage), Scission Thrust (forward low damage)

Staff: Psychomancy (AoE MP drain!!), Mind Wall (magic attacks), all tier 1 -ga nukes.

Polearm: Percussive Foin (forward medium damage), Microquake (single target high damage), Gravity Wheel (AoE high damage).

Hand: Transmogrification (absorb physical attacks).

Do *NOT* lock the mammet you're fighting in Hand form with Yellow Liquid; it's the only form that uses Transmogrification, so while it's less dangerous than the other forms, it also dies much more slowly.

Tried this mission yesterday, one dry run, one defeat, another dry run after (since we lost our 2h and most of the supplies on the 2nd fight, it was pointless to try to win then).

Our setup:
WHM/BLM (me)
NIN/WAR
NIN/WAR
THF/NIN
MNK/WAR
SMN/WHM

In our first fight, nobody used any medicine or food. We were able to take 50% HP from the first mammet. NIN and THF were kiting, while the other NIN was tanking. MNK and SMN charged on the 1st mammet. Then, kited mammets turned their jobs to BLM. Kiter NIN died, THF died, the rest you can imagine...

Second fight, we used the same strategy, but used our supplies. It was even worse than the first fight: MNK used 2h, mammet used Stun, MNK missed most of the attacks. SMN used 2h, mammet used Stun, hit SMN, SMN died before having the chance of charge. Again, the others mammet turned to BLM and slaughtered the kiters.

We were about to give up, and tried to use SMN as kiter this time. It worked as well, but since we weren't prepared to win, the battle ended up the same way. However, in this battle we had the minor chances of winning and achieved the best results (1st mammet almost died)

From what we've seen, it's a matter of luck. If the mammets don't use Stun, if they don't turn to BLM (note: they got resisted A LOT to Silence), if they don't use Transmogrification too many times... it can be an easy or a terrible tough fight.

BTW, we tried the Yellow Liquids as well. They proved to be little useful, since this is a long fight and their use is hard to time.

About the Riverne - Site #A01 run, the item needed from Firedrakes is called "Giant Scale", not "Dragon Scale".

We're willing to try it again, switching one of the NINs for RNG and making the SMN kite. Let's see if that works.

Our group was Drk/Nin(me), Rng/nin, rdm/nin, rdm/nin, whm/blm, nin/war. I for one did not gimp the party. This is what I did, and its an extra strategy for many of you to see.

Basically you want the first out of the 3 to go down the fastest, because after he is down, it gets much much easier. For those who know how to use a Dark right, and even later on, they have the most powerful 2 hour(with kraken, ridel etc). Dark/nin would be a terrible exp config, but for boss battles, they work great. I had two sniper rings, full accuracy gear in every other aspect, and a haste belt with enchantments to cast haste. So I would caste haste on myself, and we went after the middle memmet.

I was slow and sluggish, but I did decent dmg, but it was still clear that the Rng was dominating me. When the memmet got down to 60 percentof its hp, thats when I really shined. Because like I said, if a dark's 2 hour is used right, it does insane dmg. I swapped to 2 Combat Casters Schimtars. they have plus 3 to accuracy and plus 5 to attack. Why on earth would I do this? Basically at level 40, the difference in level cap is so small, that it doesnt make a difference and swords are much faster then a scythe, and this would offer me the greatest amount of accuracy. I then macro swapped my belt to the dual wielding enhancing level 30 belt that drops your delay by 10 percent.

For people who do not know, souleater takes 10 percent of your hp, and adds that to every attack, regardless of the mobs defense. so if you have 1000 hp, and you attack the mob with souleater, you will go down to 900, and deal out 100 dmg, plus whatever your regular attack would do. SO with a sword, and haste, and dual wield, you are going to get that extra souleater dmg in more then twice as fast as with a scythe, and with plus 6 to accuracy, you will be way more accurate. To be honest, i hardly missed.

So, as i left off, i had turned on my souleater. I would dual swing, and hit the mob twice, and then quickly hit my macro for hi potion, then dual swing, then hi potion, etc.(these are boss battles, you need to be using potions, and don't complain, tanks are using way more) I would quickly get hate, luckily I had blink on. After 30 seconds of this, I turned on my 2 hour, and sat back and watched the chaos. I was dealing 125 dmg per swing, for 30 seconds, and only missed twice. All I can say is, it was a slaughter, and it made a summoners 2 hour look weak.

On a side note, later on in the game, this is hands down the most powerful 2 hour in the game, if combined with a kraken club and a ridel. You will do an unbelievable amount of dmg, and the best thing is, defense never matters.

Something helpful I heard
# Mar 05 2005 at 5:53 PM Rating: Decent
I've not tried this but I think it bears mentioning. I've heard the Epsilons begin the fight "jobless" (they're unarmed) and if you're quick with the yellow liquid, you can lock them like that and they'll be stuck with no job abilities to use against you. With proper timing, you could make total chumps out of these guys with this strategy. Anyone know any details?

Oh yes, cut the "must have X party" ******** already. Any sensible person by now knows it's nothing but lies and any job can contribute with some thought. :p
Wouldn't this work

Wonderful, another fight where most of the people who play the game will have trouble getting any sorta respect for their job...

If anyone does this with an "unconventional" set-up (or a setup not requiring you to level a very specific job and subjob), please post your success and job lineup here^^

I smell yet another rate-down for me lol

Well i have tried this more for a dry run with BSTs NINs and i think we had a RNG and RDM in the PT not sure and we found 3x Astral Flow works great for droping 70%~ of the HP

So the idea is the 3nins tank 1 each(keeping the 3 close together) and the 3 SMN do Astral Flow in 20sec intervals.
The only real big issue i can see with this is if they do the MP damage to HP ability.
Anyone know how to stop it or maybe cancel it?
I heard a rumor about the Liquid not only Stops the job Change but also stops them from using their abilities.

LS members did this tonight, we did a dry run first and didn't use any items to see how well we would do/how the fight works. Party setup was as follows:

Nin/war (me)
Mnk/war
Mnk/war
Rdm/nin
Rdm/nin
Whm/blm

We beat it the second time through using most of our items, all 12 of my hi-potions were used before I got to the 3rd mammet.

We followed the above description pretty closely, Rdm/nin's kited the 2 on the side and I voked the center one. The worst job you can get these stuck on is blm, unless you can keep it silenced. A silenced blm is pretty nice to fight against, but I tried to keep it on the "no class" job type. War is a job you dont want it on, It ate through my shadows pretty quickly and hit hard and hit fast. Also, turn away when it does the Transmogrification thing, you can regen its hp really quick if you aren't paying attention... esp if your mnk is Hundred Fisting >_>

Also a note on your rdm/nin kiters, if you can, get 2 solid wands to use. This will help with sticking your enfeebs as well as having your stoneskin last longer.

The record on Pandemonium at the time was 8 minutes and 30 something seconds. We just about doubled it with 16 minutes and some odd seconds. But w/e, its done and man that fight kicked some major butt! So much fun :D

anyways, hoped this post helped^^

Check it out.

Best Pt to go with is

Nin/war
Nin/war
Nin/war
Whm/???
Whm/???
???,??? Leecher hehe

each Nin/war go solo each one this would be the damn easiest way to win, No kidding. I was soloing the whole time with 1 mob up in the corner. Just stay hasted and take your time. CAKE WALK

Ofcourse other ways to win but this way you know you WILL win if the ninjas know what thier doing.

I did this mission with LS memeber this past weekend. All I can say is: WOW! That was one of the most intense fights I have ever been in through this entire game.

This was our party make up:
Pld/War, Nin/War, Rng/Nin, Rdm/Blm, Whm/Smn, Smn/Whm (me)

We came well supplied. We thought over supplied, but as it turned out, we used just about everything. I brought 5 x-potions, 5 hi-ethers, 1 vile elixir+1, 1 pro-ether, 2 orange kuchen, 5 yag drinks, a stack of pies, and supplies to make pineapple juice. I'm not sure what the others brought, but it was pretty "heavy". I know the Rng brought 20 hi-potions. Everyone brought some form of instant reraise (either a scroll or a potion).

We did 3 "dry runs" to get the feeling of how to fight the mobs. Each time, we did NOT use any of our real medications, 2hrs, or reraise item. The Whm was the only one that casted Reraise on herself. For each of the dry run, we planned to die. This really helped us plan for our "real fight"

We used the "kill 1 and die, reraise, recover and kill remaining 2 strategy". It was, for us, a challenging and long fight. We came close to running out of time, but we won in 28 minutes. The record was 10 minutes, so obviously there is a better way to win this.

Some things to note:

Yes, bind does stick, but usually not for very long. Quite often, the mob "broke free" of bind in less than 5 seconds. ES Bind did work better, but still didn't hold the mob for long.

If a Whm cures someone who is kiting, the Whm will get hate and the mob will attack the Whm. Kiters need to cure or use potions on themselves.

If you know you are about to die, run back to the tunnel (where you entered). This way after everyone is dead and the mobs have moved off, you can safely reraise.

A Nin can effectly kite one mob. While we were killing off one mob, the Nin really had no issues keeping his own against one.

A Rdm/Blm will have trouble kiting a mob. Our Rdm was the first to go down. The mob she was kiting then joined the other mob and killed our Nin. Maybe a Rdm/Nin would have lasted longer. But in the end, she nuked-killed the last mob.. So her /Blm came in real handy

We tried Carby kiting. It works ok but not great. But since I did not do any of the mini-fork fights, I did not have much practice with carby kiting.

possible setup?
# Feb 11 2005 at 11:40 AM Rating: Decent
Wondering if this setup would work, or if you guys think we would be horribly crushed...

Whm/Smn (me)
Blm/Whm
Rdm/Whm
Pld/War
Thf/Rng (spams arrows like a Rng when she needs to and does some crazy constant damage for a thf o.O)
War/Nin

This party wen through the aquaducts easily, along with the Proms, and ive heard that a single party that has been together since the Proms could take all of the missions that CoP has to offer.

I figure our strategy would end up like this:

I reraise myself, possibly the Rdm brings a scroll of instant reraise, we go in, Pld goes first and vokes the center and the Rdm and Blm bind the other two to their place, then just wail on the center one. just pay attention to when the bind wears and have both the blm and the rdm cast bind.

if at all else fails, hopefully we can get one down, and if the things are comin after me ill go die away from everyone else so i can reraise and raise everyone, and basically start the fight over with one less mob.

Sound like itll work? yay/nay? ...and if at all possible, it would be really nice not to have to carry in a heck of a lot of potions. i dont really care how long the fight is gonna take, as long as we get it done...and i dont think any of the 6 of us really have a lot of room left ^^;;

I did this a few days ago and I have to say it was easier than everyone had made it out to be (by far the most challenging CoP fight yet though). The key to winning is that everyone knows what they're doing and isn't afraid to spend a nice chunk of gil for the fight. If you come prepared and don't have a really bad job setup, you will win.

We went with:
RNG/NIN (me)
RNG/NIN
THF/NIN
SAM/WAR
WHM/SMN
BLM/WHM

That's right, no real tank. Have everyone bring at LEAST 10 Hi-Potions, the best food, HP and/or MP regen drinks, Ethers for mages, and Yellow Liquids (not absolutely needed and will take more coordination than using Animas against promyvion bosses, but it helps speed things up). I bought about 32k of consumables but only ended up using about 15k of them; I spent by far the least amount of gil in the party.

The battle plan was pretty much the same as others have stated: the theif kited one of the mobs, using Flee and Perfect Dodge as neccissary (although I don't think either were needed), the black mage kited the other with Bind and Gravity, the white mage cured as needed (I didn't pay close attention to it, but I guess the kiters only got hit a few times throughout the entire fight), and the rangers and samurai gave everything we had to kill the center one while trying to keep it in the monk form with Yellow Liquids (although it seemed to be in whatever form uses a scimitar-like sword most of the time).

The first one went down pretty easily, the lack of a true tank wasn't a problem since hate kept cycling between all 3 of us and Utsusemi took care of most of the hits. The samurai would just voke and kite when it did Transmogrification and we'd wait until it stopped to hit it again. We did get a little worried when it switched to black mage and started spamming -ga spells that hurt quite a bit, but luckily it only did that once.

Once the first one is down you've basically won, the rest of the fight is the same except you have one less kiting to worry about and one more player to help kill, which makes up for not having Eagle Eye Shot ready again. The closest we ever came to death was at the very very end (5-10 seconds before we won) when the last one went psycho with the AoE attacks and knocked everyone down to red/orange, luckily we all survived to finish it off.

It'll take a while (we won in just under 16 minutes, 13 minutes being the record), but it doesn't take a perfect setup to win, just make sure each member comes with the right items and understanding of the battle plan.
RE: Beat it first try

Well, Gravity is a RDM lvl21 spell. Your BLM couldn't have been using it. Even if he/she would sub rdm, the battle is lvl40 cap.
