Description

After finishing the Missionary Moblin quest, re-zone and talk to Koblakiq again to receive this quest.

First get a Arnica root, which can be bought off AH (Alchemy) or dropped from Cactuar mobs in West/East Altepa Desert. If hunting in East Desert, be careful not to link Cactrot Rapido. After obtaining the item, head to Castle Oztroja and follow the path in direction of the magicite. You'll come across an open outdoor area where you'll be on the top level ledge. The Yagudo NPC you want is to your right in a little room just before you exit the outdoor area, so just hug right and you can't miss him. Trade the arnica root to the Yagudo NPC. He'll simply tell you to leave. Go back to the Moblin in Oldton for a key item.

Now go to Beadeaux to find the Quadav NPC at top right corner of G-10 on the island. Clear the nearby area of quadavs, talk to NPC to spawn 4 quadavs which you need to kill. They aren't too hard, but sleepga is important, a 75THF and 72WHM duo handled it no problems. Each person on this quest need to pop the NMs once, with about 2min wait time between each battle. After everyone has killed their set of quadavs and talked to the NPC for an event, head back to Koblakiq. You'll receive Jaguar Mantle as a reward.

Solo'd as RDM61/BLM30
# Jul 31 2005 at 10:40 AM Rating: Decent
BIG NOTE: Yes, you lose the key item when you talk to the quadav NPC to spawn the mobs, but if you die, you DO NOT need to go back to Oldton Movapolos to get another one. Simply talk to the quadav NPC again and it'll gladly respawn them for you. I'm not sure if there's a waiting period or not between spawns (someone said there's a two minute wait), because I returned to my Home Point when I died.

I solo'd this as RDM61/BLM30, which means Sleepga was not available to me, something I was warned to not go in without (so, naturally, I went in anyway). Also, I used a hornetneedle and some accuracy gear from my DRK. Died on the first attempt because I went after a Nickel Quadav too early... big mistake. The second attempt, I had to deal with 3 other quadavs that respawned and linked, and the Nickel Quadavs often resisted sleep. Due to the links, this battle took me about 25 minutes (I used Convert twice!). Only used Elemental Seal once when I was running low on MP. So here are some tips for the next RDM61 who wants to try it, or perhaps someone else can pick up a thing or two from this.

ORDER OF KILLING
1. Magnes Quadavs first, because they die the quickest
2. Nickel Quadavs second, because they resist sleep and take a long time to kill
3. Any links last because they do not resist sleep

WEAPON TO USE
I recommend dagger, but it's gotta be 150+ because the Energy Steal weapon skill (no damage, but has Aspir effect) is invaluable for enduring the 10-minute wait between Converts. My dagger skill is 167, I think, so well below cap for my level.

FOOD
I used sole sushi because I had one left. Thinking on it, the accuracy bonus was a huge help and the strength/dexterity bonus let me save MP from not having to Dispel their defense boost abilities. I did Dispel their Shell II buffs, though, because otherwise they'd resist sleep even worse than they already did. If your dagger skill is capped, you may want to consider either fish or meat kabobs instead, since you'll be more accurate naturally and could use the bonus to defense or attack, depending on your race.

SUBJOB
Black mage sub is the way to go. Drain and aspir were crucial to successfully enduring the 10-minute wait between Converts, and the INT boost from that sub helped to sleep the Nickel Quadavs. Ninja sub, which I briefly considered, would have shadows wiped everytime a Magnus Quadav cast a -ga spell, which was too frequent. Utsusemi does not lend itself well to handling numerous links, either. Also, with Utsusemi, you'll be spending too much time casting spells and not enough time hitting the mobs, which is bad because they will Cure themselves and each other.

GEAR
Well, as RDM isn't my main anymore and I sold my best stuff, I was using stuff from my DRK, rare/ex gear and leftovers. In addition to Hornetneedle, I used:
-Light Buckler (+5 shield skill and it's cheap to keep, but this item must be new since it's not on Allakhazam yet)
-Willpower Torque (+5% spell interruption resistance, which was important for landing Sleep)
-Venerer/Sniper rings (from DRK, helped my underleveled dagger skill)
-Gramary cape (+1 Magic Accuracy does make a difference, as does the +3 to Magic Defense Bonus... and it's cheap to keep)
-Life belt (again, from DRK)
-Full AF (because it costs nothing to keep... lol, seeing a pattern?)

EFFECTIVE USE OF SLEEP I/II
As soon as they spawn, start attacking one Magnus Quadav and Sleep II the other Magnus Quadav, before it can Sleep you. Then Sleep I a Nickel Quadav. This way, Sleep II is recharging while you are using Sleep I, so that you can use it on the second Nickel Quadav. If Sleep fails on the Nickel Quadavs, it's not a huge deal; their damage isn't that bad because they're Paladin types, and 15% spell interruption resistance (AF body+Willpower Torque) with Phalanx on almost always overcame their attempts at interruption when Stoneskin was down. If any quadavs respawn and link, make Sleeping them a priority over Sleeping the Nickel Quadavs, because the links won't resist Sleep since they're weaker (Iron Quadavs sometimes might resist because they're also Paladin types, but it only happened once).

USE OF CONVERT
I shouldn't need to say this, but make sure you have a freshly cast Phalanx and Stoneskin up when you do this. I didn't use Chainspell and I Converted twice, so it can work.

USE OF CHAINSPELL
I was fumbling during the first attempt because I went after a Nickel Quadav early on, so I busted out Chainspell to Convert, rebuff and re-Sleep the crowd. The second attempt, Chainspell was not up yet, so you really shouldn't need this if you do it right.

USE OF DEBUFFS
I only cast Slow and Dispel, and I only used Dispel on mobs when I saw Shell was cast on them. Use Ice Spikes so that you don't have to cast Paralyze, and the mob will take additional damage as well when it hits you. The majority of my MP I saved for Sleep I/II, Stoneskin and other buffs.

USE OF BUFFS
Haste, Stoneskin, Phalanx, Ice Spikes, Enblizzard, Protect III, Shell III, Refresh were the only ones I used, in order to minimize MP usage. Aquaveil is overkill and takes too long to cast. Blink would go down too fast and also takes too long to cast.

That's all I can think of for this fight... good luck!

Solo'ed as 66THF/NIN. Shadows kept being eaten up by -ga spells. Took down the 2BLMs, then died to the 2PLDs. They hit for 70-80 per shot, which is painful. Had to 2hr, and even then I still died. Bloody Bolts won't save your *** here. You're gonna need to sleep some as soon as possible.

soloed this as a 62 mnk. it was rough though. i had to pop a hi-potion and a regen drink, and of course use my two-hour. but i can officially add it the list of things i have stupidly done by myself.

i wouldn't have had as much trouble as i did, but there were a couple of links. i wound up not even finishing them off. i killed the four that spawned, got the CS and then warped out before the other two could finish me off.

Just did this as 50MNK/WAR with 3 others

74PLD/WAR
70SAM/RNG
70BRD/THF (don't ask, she wanted to steal some beastcoins, and we didn't complain, it was already really easy.)

This was a pushover, even though I was pretty weak when getting beaten =X
Easy Fight

Yagudo NPC location/name
# May 13 2005 at 2:37 PM Rating: Decent
The name of the Yagudo NPC is Daa Bola the Seer, and he's located at I-7. To get to him, take the NW exit out of the first map -after- the first door. He's in a little nook. Trade him the Arnica root and you're set.
hmm...

I went with 51 drk, rdm in his 60's and myself, a lv.61 pld.

I think these guys are no stronger than the tier V quadav in the area. possibly weaker. Their HP seemed to drop faster.

I'm not sure if I could have soloed it. Maybe if I brought meds to be sure I could have but I chose the safer approach. A red mage of my level would have had no trouble since he can shut up the mages. They do pack a punch.

This really isn't that difficult at all. I was going to try to solo it as a 58drg/whm, but a 50smn/whm friend of mine tagged along. The two of us took them out with no difficulty whatsoever. I think a full party of upper 40's or lower 50's could do this without a hitch.
On a side note...
# Apr 24 2005 at 11:59 PM Rating: Decent
One of the quadav NM's hit me, and stuck an additional effect: Disease. Think it was one of the Magnes, but I'm not 100%, as it happened when I spawned them so 4 were hitting me all at once.

*EDIT* I just checked the log, it was a Nickel that did it.

This was a joke! Went in with a 57Whm/smn, 54Pld/war, 55Rng/nin and myself 55Mnk/war. Once we cleared the island, got the mage's mp back and snapped a screen shot it took about 3 minutes tops. The Blm Mobs were taken down by the Rng and Mnk while the Pld occupied one Pld Mob. Then the Mnk went to the other Pld mob on while the Rng and Pld finished the first.

Once again the guys of the Bound By Honor Link Shell have proven you don't always "Need High Level Help."

Did this one today, and I never quite understand what it is with people and saying "If you have a 75 nin with you its a piece of cake." But, I digress..

Party setup was me PLD52/WAR26, Meita MNK50/WAR25, and Luraabi RDM50/WHM25. We did it twice, pwned them both times. Me and the monk each voked one Magnes and the rdm sleep2'd the Nickles. Smoothe as silk.

After wandering around the castle for a hour or so I finally found that damn bird, he's on that section of map where Mee deggi (the Otichuo's Kote NM) is, up on the ledge. I always wondered why this mantle cost so much, now I know. This quest is really long and boring.
Too Easy.

All these people with 70's were way overkill. Actually, I (62MNK) overdid it with a duo with a 61DRG. Kill the Magnes first, save TP for the PLD types.

Just did this fight today with my 73RDM/36BLM friend and myself (54THF/27NIN). After he buffed up and rested his MP back, I spawned them (with Utsusemi up, of course), and he slept them. During the battle, the other Quadavs in the area respawned, but ke was able to sleep them most of the time. When he couldn't, he just used them to refill his HP and MP with Drain and Aspir. :) We had no problems killing all 4 NMs and the links, and I got a level in Marksmanship while we were at it. ^^

Ok a PLD68 friend of mine and me SAM49 fought these NMs 3 times, first fight he clicked the NPC for the NMs to spawn... PLD68 XD piece of cake, the mobs quickly gathered together to hit him, as a PLD that wasn't an issue the fight was over fast enough.
My turn ><, clicked the NPC the NMs spawn and i started getting hit by the 4 of them next thing i know im eating grass from the ground same for the PLD. HP then tried again, then my friend suggested using sneak while spawning them so the turtles wouldn't instantly kill me... well i did so and same as before, the 4 NMs started smacking me, PLD voked, flashed, cure4, nothing helped to get the hate off me anyways i died again but PLD managed to kill them, got raised clicked NPC got cutscene thats it. :P

so if you die in battle but your PT manages to kill the NMs, get a raise you can still finish the quest

oh by the way the BLM quadavs (not sure if they are 2 BLM or a WHM & a BLM) may be annoying they spam ga spells so be carefull
Fun battle

Just finished doing this quest. Party set up was 55 mnk/war, 55 whm/blm, 61 blm/whm, 61rdm/blm, 56blm/whm. The battle was a piece of cake. We could have easily done this with one less blm or everyone at 55-56.

We needed to do this for four times. The second time we ended up linking a water elemental and every quadav from the island that repoped while we were fighting. No one got close to death and we were never in trouble.

Sleepga II really helped make this easy. You could probably get it done with one tank per NM and a couple mages at lvl 55. Good luck

Yes, there are only 4 Quadav that spawn. 2 Nickel (Pld) and 2 Magnes (Blm). The Nickel Quadav cause Disease and the Magnes cause Curse when they hit you. They're supposedly between level 43-45, but the Nickel ones are somewhat hard to sleep.

There are also 4 normal Quadav that lurk about on that island.

If you fail in the fight, you can just talk to the NPC again to respawn them.
Five? I think it is Four Quadav.....

When I did this we only had four Quadav pop. Two Nickle Quadav and two NM Quadavs. The NM Quadavs will just sit and cast spells until you melee them. We were way too powerful for them as well NIN 72, MNK 65, WHM 65, RDM 50.
