Battle Notes

To begin, trade 60 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Moon Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Waughroon Shrine zone located in the Palborough Mines dungeon.

Be advised that only three players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 60, and that there is a 15 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, you will find Fe'e, a Sea Monk type mob.

  • After taking a set amount of damage, a message will appear saying that "One of the sea creature's tentacles have been wounded." This can happen up to six times, with the final time producing the message, "All of the sea creature's tentacles have been wounded."

  • For each tentacle wounded, the number of melee attacks per round it performs decreases, yet the damage from each attack increases proportionally. After the last tentacle is wounded, the normal melee attacks will be replaced by an attack with the animation of Ink Jet. This attack has a knockback effect and is magic based.

In order to spawn the armoury crate, Fe'e must be defeated within the allotted time.

Strategies

Note: These are just some of the strategies possible to successfully complete this BCNM.

Black Magex2, Red Mage Setup

One of the more commonplace strategies involves two Black Mage and one Red Mage using a Sleep and nuke method. Upon entering the battlefield and buffing up, the two Black Mages will time an Elemental Seal Burst with the Red Mage following up by sleeping Fe'e. As the Red Mage debuffs Fe'e with Paralyze, Gravity, and the like, the Black Mages time Freeze followed by the Red Mage sleeping it again. Repeating this pattern will result in Fe'e being defeated with little trouble.

Summonerx3 Setup

Another strategy involves three Summoner and the Carbuncle avatar. Upon entering and buffing up, the three summoners will call out Carbuncle and all assault Fe'e. As soon as they strike Fe'e to ensure they're within range, run up towards the avatars and use Meteorite and then, after the Meteorites hit, move down the tunnel towards the exit until you can no longer see Carbuncle's hp bar.

  • Because the repeated use of Meteorite will deplete your mp, it is recommended to bring two Yagudo Drinks per BCNM fight.

Making sure to keep Stoneskin and Blink up as much as possible, repeat Carbuncle assaults and Meteorites until Fe'e is defeated.

Paladin, Melee, Black Mage Setup

Upon entering the battlefield and buffing up, have the Paladin run in first and pull Fe'e towards one of the walls of room and position it so that the Paladin's back is against the wall. At this time, the Paladin and the melee will begin to attack it while the Black Mage helps cure the Paladin due to Fe'e's rapid melee attacks often causing the Paladin's spells to be interrupted. Once enough of the tentacles have been damaged so that the Paladin is able to cure himself without worrying about being interrupted, the Black Mage can focus more on debuffing and nuking Fe'e. If it is possible, it is recommended to form Distortion and/or Fragmentation skillchains so that the Black Mage can magic burst off them to maximize spell damage.

We did this with WAR/NIN, RDM/WHM, BLM/WHM for 3 times we got pretty decent drops (only one walkure mask) but each of us got some profits. The first fight was hard cuz the War tried to tank the sea monk, but we soon realized the mob hits too fast and too hard...the first fight the war died and us rdm and blm nuked it to death...and the following two fights were easy since we got the hang of it. We have the war kite the mob and gravity it, nuke it til we have no mp, sleep and rest and at it again. it's a much better strategy than what we did at first!

Did this 3 times sucessfully last night. Pt was pld blm blm. The first fight was a little rough due to the fact that this NM has perma hundred fists, and I tried tanking it straight up. Last two fights were a breeze as these 2 fights I kited it. Bind works incredibly well also giving me a chance to heal myself. Blms just went ******* on it till they were out of mp, sleeep, rest and do it again. If done right time is not a factor, and everytime we got decent drops from it although no stole. Definately worthwhile to do. I could also see rdm blm blm being a very effective combo for this. If you are going to try to tank it like we did you must have a pld, a nin or war/nin would be basically useless due to how hard this thing hits and the sheer speed of its attacks.
Good luck and happy hunting.

Forgot this BCNM also drops the teleport rings which is not listed. We got one everytime 2 Altep rings and one Dem ring.

just did this 2 times, party setup RDM, BLM, BLM

stoneskin / blink at start, rest full, rdm prot shell refresh blink stoneskin, he didnt rest (had about half MP)

RDM run in, sleep 2, me and other blm run in cast Freeze, freeze go off, RDM sleep 2 again (while all the time refreshing us, and casting the occasional gravity and bind) next spell Blizzaga 2, rdm sleep, next spell Burst, rdm sleep, both blm about outta MP now, so we rest, RDM convert and heal (with blm - enmity AF on his cures on himself take hate so when Fe'e wakes up we can still rest easy) Fe'e wake up, rdm sleep again, when we had 600 MP go at it again, hit with Freeze, then Burst, the first time this killed it, 2nd time we had to throw in another freeze. very easy, got P stole both times, first took 10 min, 2nd took 8

overall BLM RDM BLM works very good, just use Freeze, Blizzaga 2, Burst, and you will be fine

A couple of points for BSTx3 teams:

Darksday makes FunguarFamilliar stronger, Lightningday makes Fe'e weaker. Hate management is a bit touchy, so cure yourselves out of range, and turn around when she looks at you.

Barwatera and stoneskin are your friends.

I did this with two other BST today, and won all three runs. It was pretty straightforward, using two jugs and two pet food zeta per run--but all the AOE hits pretty hard, and after the first run one of us stayed out of range and played healer while her pet fought. When one of the meleeing BST got low on HP, we would run out of hate range to get healed. One of us used Carrie, one Funguar, one Homunculus. Overall, Funguar did 26% of damage, Carrie 23%, Homunculus 19%.

We thought Carrie might have an advantage in this fight because of crabs' water resistance, but Funguar resisted Maelstrom much more than Carrie did; it always took half damage or less, whereas Carrie usually took full damage. The mob weakness chart at Vana'diel Monsters explains this; it says that Funguars take half damage from Water attacks. So FunguarFamiliar definitely seems like the best choice for this fight, though I'd be interested to see how Siravarde, Orob and Como do in terms of damage.

Eating Sushi gave me 93% accuracy; the other meleeing BST, who I think didn't use food, had 80% accuracy. The pets all had 63% accuracy.

Fe'e's melee damage rose gradually over time, from ~80/hit to ~120 to ~250 up to a high of 523 for a single non-critical hit. Then its melee damage dropped back to ~50...but later it went up to ~200 again. I don't know what the pattern is, but it might have something to do with the periodic messages saying "Once of the sea creature's tentacles have been wounded."

Fe'e uses the normal Sea Monk specials: Ink Jet, Maelstrom, Whirlwind, Cross Attack, Tentacle, Hard Membrane, Regeneration.

Each run dropped 9 items, which followed the following pattern:

Always 3 Oxblood, 2 Pearl, 1 Black Pearl
1 Teleport ring (Dem or Altep)
1 Neck armor (Ajari or Philomath)
1 Rock (Sunstone, Red Rock, Translucent Rock)

I would guess that the Walkure Mask would take the Neck armor spot when it drops.

Walkure dosnt take the neck spot. I did mine the other day (see below for addition drop list). We did the 2x blm 1x rdm sleep AM sleep AM repeat. Worked well

5 runs
5 ajari necklaces /cry (we wanted stole)
walkure on one of run

as you said 3 oxblood, 2 pearl, 1 black pearl each time

and i'll agree that it seems to drop a teleport ring each time. Not sure how that mahagony log got tossed in as well.

Also drops

I have completed this twice with pld, blm, and rdm. Pretty easy once you get it down. We ate food, healed full, and then went in. First few times we tried, time was an issue so rdm just protect me (the pld) and i went after it. We fought untill rdm and blm were at about 100mp and slept it. By this time it was at about 2/3 health. It woke up while we were healing so blm slept it again. We continued to heal untill mages were about full. Its not a bad idea for the pld to voke a few times while it is asleep to build up hate. Then we started again. By the time mages were low on mp again it was at about 1/4 health and we had about 6 min left. We slept it one more time while we healed untill blm had 300+ mp. Then blm nuked the hell outta it untill it was dead. I (pld) didnt do much dmg except for spirits within so tank focus on def to take as little dmg as possible. It has a a directional move that does good dmg so keep it facing away from mages. We are 1 for 2 on the philomath stole so far. Good Luck
Just an idea.

If you can sleep this thing, wouldn't it make sense to go with BRD/WHM and 2 BLM/WHMs so you can Lullaby then use an anciant magic on it and Lullaby again so you just kill it like that? Just an idea. I haven't even tried this, just thinking about it.
Just an idea.

Did this last night with Singular and Leeluu on Bismarck, we went in as WHM/BLM BLM/WHM MNK/WAR

This thing almost seems like it has 100 fists active all the time, it just keeps swinging.

It does an AOE water attack which hits hard.

It also does a directional Blind Move so make sure it is facing away from mages, this move also does damage.

It had us all in the Red by the end of the fight and it was a close one.

Blink tank will be worthless in this fight as this thing swings non stop. Thew MNK, singular, said he hits about as hard as maat does. if thats any indicator.

BLM Spells connected well, then again i have over +30 int to help.

Stick with Blizzard and Thunder spells and you should do OK. I used 1 Super Ether and 1 Yagudo Drink and medded for about 50MP mid fight.

End result: I got my philomath stole :) now to hit 61...

Just did this with setup BLU/NIN RDM/BLM BLM/RDM
At first i was worried about BLU but we worked out our kinks. BLU is actually quite nice the fight was CAKE! BLU fights disengauged magic only, when me and RDM would bind he'd use magic attack magic, and while we were kiting he was also able to used a ranged attack that had sleep effect, BLU is also able to cast BIND and GRAVITY with blue magic spells so it was pretty much like using another RDM. 0/3 on kraken we will return to play with this setup later tonight.. We go through the fight pretty much untouched, besides a few inkjets AoEs here and there.

the ranged attack blue spell can be used like sleep bolts, spammed on top of each other to keep asleep, he did this while me and RDM were full resting and each hit doing 100-180 damage along with resleeping Fe'e
