Battle Notes

To begin, trade 50 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Comet Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Horlais Peak zone located in the Yughott Grotto dungeon.

Be advised that only three players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 50, and that there is a 15 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, you will find Gerjis, a tiger type mob.

  • Apart from the usual Tiger tp moves, Gerjis also possesses two unique tp moves.

    • Crossthrash: Strong single target physical damage with an additional knockback effect.

    • Gerjis's Grip: Frontal cone AoE gaze Stun effect. (Effect can be evaded by turning your back to Gerjis).

In order to spawn the armoury crate, Gerjis must be defeated within the allotted time.

Strategies

Since Gerjis is weak to fire, most strategies created for the sake of defeating him involve performing a fire based skillchain as often as possible.

Paladin, Melee, Red Mage method

Upon entering the battlefield, buff up and have the Paladin engage Gerjis first and have the other two members move to Gerjis's sides to avoid Claw Cyclone and Gerjis's Grip. A well equipped Paladin will be able to withstand the damage that Gerjis can produce while holding hate effectively, and with the Paladin opening with Red Lotus Blade, it is possible for a Fusion skillchain to be formed. The Red Mage will act to help keep the Paladin cured, to remove Paralysis after Roar, and to debuff and nuke (when applicable) Gerjis.

Ninja, Melee, Red Mage method

This method is quite similar to the previous method, but because of a Ninja's inherently harder time of holding hate than a Paladin, attention must be kept regarding the hate levels of the individuals in the battlefield. With the Blade: Chi weaponskill, Ninjas can effectively close Fusion, so it is recommended that the other melee is capable of opening Fusion.

We lost this twice, second time was a narrow defeat. Sleep arrows and spartan bullets trigger like 1/6 times and don't last very long, don't waste your time on that.

Bring about 4 hi-ether on your healer (RDM is good) and 4 hi-potions on the tank. I never missed a shot firing at him, so sub WAR or eat attack food for more damage. Paladin tanking it can do a good job, the main problem is running out of mana at the end.

But good luck Rheywolf Scholar! Maybe after few tries you will reach it...

my linkshell fought this mob not 10 minutes ago. Whm/Mnk/Blm. you fight one Tiger named Gerjis.

Suffice to say, we got owned. Owned, schooled, pwned, raped, whatever you want to call it.

Lucidric, our monk, wih Protect III, Defender and Yellow Curry, had around 298 defense and 51+8 vitality. This mob was hitting him regularly for 100+. And that's after Kiorah, our Blm, managed to stick Bio II to him.

Me, I've got 51+27 Mind, and it resisted multiple attempts at Slow and Paralyze outright. Roar blew through Barblizzara and Barparalyzera on multiple occasions. It was hitting me for at least 200, and it damn near one-shotted Kiorah.

We all used our 2-hours the second we realized that this thing wasn't going down fast. Lucidric died, I bound it, and Kio warped himself out as planned - he couldn't afford the exp loss. By the time i died, we'd only goten him down to about half health.

Personally, I think that tiger is broken. He's got insane defense, very high punching power, high dodge rating, and luridiculous magic resist. I haven't seen so many resists since I tried to silence that whm-class mob. -_-

If you're intent on beating this thing, I'd sugest Nin/War, Rdm/Whm, and Rng/Nin. Or possibly three Rng/Nin's bouncing hate.
Regardless, good luck trying to kill this thing, but I don't think my shell will be attempting this hell-pit of a BCNM again.

I have read that MANY items drop from this, this is from my memory.

Rush Gloves

Spiked Finger gauntlets

Rival Ribbon

Most of those new level 50 pieces of armor drop from here, and the other BCNM 50's

You can read about the drops on other FFXI sites
