Mission Orders

Prishe has been taken to Doctor Monberaux's clinic! What ails her fragile body and what, if anything, can save her!?

Walkthrough

Go to Upper Jeuno's Infirmary and talk to Monberaux. Proceed to Lower Jeuno Neptune Spire and go into Tenshodo and talk to Ghebi Damomohe (I-7). She'll ask you to bring one of the 3 chips that can be obtained from Pso'Xja.

(Rare/Ex) Carmine Chip - Snow Lizard or Frost Lizard [Etoh: I got my chip from this, at a no-level-cap Pso'Xja from Beaucidine Tower (F-7) where Nue spawns. They drop pretty easily...gotten all 6 for my PT in 2 hours. Decent Challenge to LV75]

(Rare/Ex)Gray Chip - Diremite Stalkers (at Tower near Ranguemont), Diremite Assaulters, Diremite

(Rare/Ex) Cyan Chip - Treasure Chest Mimics

Bring either one of the above chips back to Ghebi Damomohe and trade to her to get a key item and 500g reward. Go to Beaucedine and enter Pso'Xja via (H-8) tower (near outpost guards) which has a Level 40 cap.

-From entrance, go straight until you reach a circular plaza. Head to the branch northward and you'll see a Red Warp (H-7)

-After the Red warp, turn right and walk straight ahead to Black Warp (I-7)

-Walk westward to the 2nd room, turn left and walk thru a Red Warp (H-7)

-After Red Warp, turn right and walk straight ahead to Black Warp (I-7)

-Go west to the 2nd room and turn left to reach the Elevator area.

-Head north, turn left and down a flight of stairs to a Stone Gate where you click to use your Key Item gotten earlier on in Jeuno to enter the Shrouded Maw BC holding area.

While it sounds repetitive, this is the correct way of navigating Pso'Xja. So its a hint that it could be quite mazy. Mobs like Gazers and Snowballs will aggro at your level so take caution.

Once you've reached the Shrouded Maw, do the necessary preps and click on the 'Memento Circle' to enter boss fight. In here you'll fight the familiar Diabolos in FF series. Diabolos is fairly easy to battle with if your tankers have ninjaa ninja sub. You should have no problem getting it down to half HP. He has a AOE Sleep attack called Nightmare that even drinking Posion is hard to counter so your melee will need to stun him when he readies this. Have your White Mage cast Barsleepra before the fight because he also casts Sleepga.

Once his HP reaches a certain level, Diabolos will start to remove the flooring tiles away in the battle arena! Now you have to be very careful of this, because if you are standing on the tile that he casts away, you'll drop down to the basement below where a SWARM of Diremites are waiting to gobble you up (instant death)! So if you are standing on the wrong tile, it's ADIOS! There are 2 Ways to tell which tiles are going to Drop. The 1st Way is to know every possible combination of tiles that drop. The layout of the Arena goes like this:

O O B O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O

where 'B' indicates the initial position of Diabolos.

There are 3 patterns that Diabolos will remove the flooring:

O O O X X O X O O O O X O X O O O O X O X X O O O

O X O X O O O O O O O O X O O X O X O X X O O O X

X O O O X O O X O O X O O O X O O X O O X O O O X

So eliminating all possible pitfalls, we are left with the safest spots (marked with O) indicated below:

X X O X X O X X O O X X X X X X O X X X X X O O X

The Second is that your shadow will not be cast on tiles that drop. So if your standing on a tile and have the time check to see if your shadow is on it as well. This is because SE does not feel its nessssary to render shadows on moving objects, or objects with animations.

Diabolos also has a WS that causes a knock-back effect, which unfortunately if you are standing on a isolated tile, will cause you to drop down to oblivion. If you can find a wall at the arena sides to face your back on, you can prevent the knockback from pushing you down. Recommended fighting positions for melee (*) and mages (#) are:

X X # X X O x x O O X X X X X X O X X X X X * * X

Defeating Diabolos will earn you a title. Return to Upper Jeuno to talk to Monberaux doctor at Upper Jeuno Infirmary to finish this chapter and earning another title.

Stun Stun Stun Stun Stun Stun Stun...

I cannot emphasize how important a stunner is to this battle.

1st round we wiped at 25% health with
nin/war
nin/war
rng/nin
rng/nin
rdm/blm
whm/smn

We all came well prepared with 10 Hi-Potions and lots of meds. Poison Potions didn't seem to have much affect though.

so we took the weekend off from CoP static..

2nd try - We always do a "dry run" first using no items or food and whm will reraise. Kind of like a practice run. However, during this "dry run" we ended up slaughtering Diablo untouched.

nin/war
rng/nin
rng/nin
mnk/war
whm/smn
**drk/nin - Our whm suggested I use sword or axe for a 2nd stun (Flat Blade/Smash Axe). So I did and it really helped. I stunned Diablo's first 2 Nightmares and saved TP for Smash Axe. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the closer to death Diablo is the more he uses Nightmare in shorter time spans. So after I stunned the 2nd Nightmare he Nightmared like 10 seconds after and I was able to get a smash axe off. Everyone 2 houred and Diablos went down.

This is the last L40 capped mission for CoP.

His sleepga and other spells are not too rough, but Nightmare is the kicker. If you can keep it stunned (and timing is critical) he's a pushover. Our paladin barely got scratched, and me (DRK) and a RNG got through without taking any damage at all. I was the only stunner and luckily he timed his nightmare move just perfect so I stunned it flawlessly each time.

Of course this was on our 4th try.. After 3 fights where we did not get perfect stunning. I am so ashamed ; ; I'm not used to being a DRK, I am a lifetime Monk!

Finally finished this mission after throwing ourselves at Diablos 5 times in a row. I was starting to despair before our final run, but all teams preparing to do this should bring gear/medicines for at least a couple of runs as there is a high level of variability and luck.

Our first attempt was : RNG PLD SMN SMN DRK WHM which seemed like an ideal dream team. Everything went really smoothly, we opened with Thunderspark (paralyzed him REALLY well) and Slowga. We had him down to about 30-40% health and activated Astral Flow. Suddenly, he started spamming Nightmares. It was over quickly at that point.

Our next 4 attempts were : RNG PLD DRK WHM BLM RDM, a much more standard setup. Again, there was a huge amount of variability. On one battle, he literally opened with Nightmare, and on others would spam it so our DRK was unable to stun. Our last run worked like a charm. RDM (me) kept it enfeebled as much as I could, and the DRK was able to stun 2 of its 3 spread out Nightmare attacks. The one that landed, somehow I recovered within moments (as opposed to others where I was pretty much asleep til dead) as did our WHM. Heartened by our survival to that point, the BLM and I activated our 2 hours and just nuked our hearts out (praying that it wouldn't sleep us).

One VERY interesting thing I heard which might immensely help future attempts and make a SMN heavy party really valuable :

Moments after we emerged victorious after 4 failed attempts, one of my pt members was talking to a JP player. According to this player, Nightmare DOESN'T affect TILES that don't have any hate attached to them! We had a standard setup where all the mages clustered at Diablos' spawn tile and the melee at the opposite end. However, if what that JP said was true, as long the the SMNs don't heal and only work through their avatars, and stood on a separate safe tile from the melee and other mages, they would NOT be slept! I'm guessing the avatars will still be slept, but this would give the SMNs a chance to dismiss and resummon an avatar, perhaps for an Astral Flow. This is just a rumor, but if someone wants to test this theory out, I would be very interested in hearing what the results are.

Good luck everybody!

Despite the posts and common sense that make dark resist gear seem like a good idea for this fight, my vote is now solidly in the don't-bother column.

I've done this fight three times now (one was an experimental slaughter, the other two were very close losses). The slaughter occured when all party members managed to get +50 or more Dark Resist. In the latest attempt, the only party member to resist Nightmare was the one wearing a Sniper's Ring (complete with -Dark Resist).

In my experience we were much better off just doing all the damage possible with normal leveling gear. There's at least 2 tile-fallout patterns where the healer can be out of range of Nightmare. Have the healer Curaga post-Nightmare and things should go well. Best practice still seems to be stopping Nightmare through Stun, or stunning WS. (We lost due to unlucky timing mostly...)

Best of luck to all who attempt this! Please post any additional tips or tricks you come across!

Cheers,

Went through last night with my static CoP party. Consisting of Nin/War (me), Whm/Blm (my gf:P), smn/whm, Mnk/War, Pal/War, and Blm/Whm.

First we did the ENM, and it went alittle rough, since it appears to have serious hate issues (once someone draws hate, it takes FOREVER to pull it off them). Didn't see it teleport, or any hate reset... however, it got stuck on the mnk for a while, and the whm and smn started spamming cures and pulled hate... Had one near death exeperience... but other then that went smooth.

The Mnk used a cheifkabob in the ENM fight by accident, so was unable to use a Jack-o-lantern in the BCNM... I went with obnoxiously high dark (+54), and the pal used a jack-o-lantern... All I gotta say is only the mnk resisted the Nightmare!?!?! Making my 80k worth of dark+ gear TOTALLY WORTHLESS and I had hate issues due to the fact that my ranged acc, spell interruption rate, and evasion were all dropped significately just to have that much dark plus... It's NOT WORTH IT!!!

Anyways, specifics on the fight. The smn wanted to do a dry run, however, once they were informed that the moment we enter the battle field there are only 2 ways out... Death and success they decided to see how the fight was going, and well, it went well, we let out all the stops and only got hit by 1 nightmare (anymore probably would have done us in). Everyone in the arena was hit by the nightmare attack... I don't know if it was us, but it appears that thing has a range like no other.

Anyways, we won, ended up getting a geist earring from the ENM and then went to Tavnazia and got access to the AH, and all was good... Now I just need to get my Nin to 50 so we can continue the missions:P

Here is the party
monk/war
nin/war
whm/smn
smn/whm
rng/nin
rdm/blm

The first time we tried death but not to many of used their two hours and we just need to see how things go. The next time we did it though, the smn did damage over time and back up curing. Whats causes nightmare from what I've seen is instant large amounts of damage or when he gets to about forty percent. The first battle he used nightmare right after our smn used Astralflow, but the next battle we used smn as a back up cure and had his smn just attack while curing until he got low and after he used nightmare the smn then used AF. The monk, tank, and nin stood on column 3 row 5, while rdm, smn, and whm (me) stood at row 1 column 3. It was like a normal battle nothing to special, just nightmare is serious without erase for bio. So I sort of gimped my party because of the lack of erase(EVERY WHM should have erase for this battle). To the point treat it like a normal battle, use poison potions, to stay awake. Keep stoneskin and blink up as well. From both times I've seen you get about 2 or 3 second to stop nightmare so drks would be nice or shoulder tackle or flat blade.

We beat Diabolos first try yesterday with NIN/WAR, NIN/WAR, WAR/NIN, RDM/WHM, WHM/BLM, and DRK/NIN using the recommend melee/magic positions. The dual-tanking NINs and shadow-protected DDs were the key to this fight... as long as Nightmare didn't kill us, there was almost no damage up front. To defend Nightmare, we had DRK Stun, and extreme anti-Dark magic and anti-Sleep equipment/food/magic on the WHM and RDM as a fallback.

As an RDM, I really recommend either RDM or BRD for this fight. Diabolos was throwing at least 3 dispellable buffs that I could see... STR increase, INT increase, and Phalanx. On top of that, most debuffs are landable and are very effective.

We ran this clown last night on Bismarck and freaking owned him on Darkday. It was like watching a prison rape ha ha! We went in with a nin rng blm whm rdm and pld I think. Buffed up and used jack o'lanterns and pamamas and yags. Barsleepra and rolled in. He dropped the tiles once and no one was unlucky or stupid enough to get caught by this trap. At about 30% life he used nightmare and lemme tell ya that bio he uses HURTS it's like Bio V. Other than that, the sleep wore fast and he went down. I hear since his loss he now turns tricks on Frontier road and VH1 is doing a "Where are they now: Diabolos" special about him.

You can see which tiles will drop before you start to fight; they have a thicker line around them. See this screenshot.

Diabolos has other TP moves besides Nightmare.
Ultimate Terror: AOE absorb several attributes (counter with Erase/Dispel, or don't bother).
Camisado: Single-target damage and knockback.
Noctoshield: Phalanx (dispel/finale this!).

He also casts Dark-elemental spells: Sleep II, Sleepga, Bio II, Blind, Drain, Aspir.

I went as BRD, and with CHR+17 (signa, whistle, corsette+1) he never resisted any of my debuff songs.

Did this yesterday with my ls. Party set up was
WHM
WHM
RNG
RNG
PLD
BLM

Im pretty sure this was the set up, and it was quite a thrilling fight. We were doing fine for a while, all had poison potions but sleep was still sticking for a bit when it landed. Not only that but he SPAMS sleep, i had used divine seal cure 3 on the pld when i woke up and before casting it i was asleep again!

So Diablos was at about 50% hp with the tank down and we thought we were goners, Eagle Eye shots and pretty much all the other 2 hours were our only hope. i used benediction(tried to get it off before the pld died but i was asleep) and diablos hit me but hate came off soon enough anyway.
One of the rangers got hate a little later in the fight and diablos hit me with a knock back while i was casting curaga...NOT PRETTY. Diremites ate me up quick but about a minute later he did a draw in and i quickly reraised to cast a curaga on the barely surviving members. The other whm benes, but goes down quick, which brings me to a point for all WHM...

You are NOT going to be able to rest in this fight, diablos bio spam, sleep spam and your own poison potion will make sure of this, so bring a holy breastplate for the defense bonus over a seers. He did a great job though and i would imagine doing this with no other healer would be a bit harder(those curagas for waking up the party help alot). Try to keep the tank alive at all cost but if things get ugly this can still be beat, i think the challenge actually made it funner

This fight wasn't as hard as my LS expected. We came well prepared, I had about 15 hi-potions, 6 Yagudo drinks, 3 hi-ethers and an Icarus wing, and only ended up using 5 hi-potions and a Yagudo drink! our set up was:

WAR/NIN
THF/NIN
RNG/NIN
RNG/NIN
WHM/BLM
PLD/WAR

I think he did Nightmare pretty much straight away, it felt like he did it right after my first Provoke, but it might have been a few seconds after. either way, we weren't prepared for him to use it so soon so we couldn't stun it. but after that fairly bad start, things went pretty smoothly. We managed to stun his Nightmare 3 or 4 times (THF was using a Sword I think for Flat Blade, and my Shield Bash worked too as well as Flat Blade). Everyone used their 2hrs (apart from maybe our THF) after we got him down to about 30-40%.

I did this last night and it wasn't too hard once we kenw what we were up against.
PT was:
PLD/WAR (me)
DRK/WAR
RNG/NIN
WHM/BLM
RDM/WHM
BLM/WHM

We fought twice because we lost the first try and did the second try without 2hrs or being able to use icarus wings. The reason we lost the first time was simple: we didn't realize that you can stun Nightmare. Not being slept made the fight almost too easy. Diablos didn't hit me too hard, about 60-80 per hit and with Persikos au Lait, it made it easy to keep my HP up. In the fight we won, Diabolos got off one Nightmare because our DRK's stun wasn't ready. If i were to do this mission again, i would use a PLD to tank since his AoE attacks were constantly removing the RNG's shadows and sleep would keep a NIN from recasting utsusemi.
Also for a PLD tank, a Memento Muffler makes a great asset for this fight. Diablos cast Bio a lot, when he does make sure that the WHM hits you with Erase as soon as possible. The key to winning seemed to be teamwork with a little bit of luck. And for everyone still stuck on 2-5, this fight is extremely easy after you beat that one.

This battle is a lot easier than people make it sound, as long as you have a decent setup. I just did this with an LS party, and we won, everyone's first attempt, with no casualties. NIN, RNG, RNG, RNG, BLM, WHM. The blm and the whm were even put to sleep at the halfway mark, and didn't wake up until after it was all over.

If you want to see a video of what to expect, check it out here:

This one is ep lol

PT-Setup:
SAM
NIN
WHM
BLM
BST
RNG

No Sniper Rings equiped and entered on Lightsday.
All Melees use Jack-O-Latern for Dark-Resist +10.
I (NIN-Tank) use 1x Persikos au lait and 1x Icarus Wing at the start. I have to use a lot of Potions :D 1x Hi-Potion +3, 1x +2, 2x +1. So WHM can konzentrate on healing the others and if he had time to heal me :D SAM uses WS to Stun him if he use Nightmare (DRK better, but we did not have one). Our BLM dies and WHM had enough time to Raise him :D no problem. I was thinking he is tough, but, sorry, Promyvion-Mea pre-update was a lot harder lol

Everyone should use a reraiser for this fight. Thus, in the likely event that Diabolos starts spamming Nightmare near end of fight and your party is VERY close to beating him but his nightmare ultimately kills some PT members you can reraise and get a few last shots in to finish him off.

Good luck.

Just wanted to throw in a little fun fact:
+41 dark resist = resist nightmare attack :)

Diabolos is a really easy NM to beat. The only thing tough about him is his nightmare attack.
One of the rangers in my pt decided to load up on noct gear +1 and all the + drk resist he could get.
Instead of +acc rings he got +5 resist rings and neck and belt, back armor, etc etc...
Just eat a squid sushi and you wont have any accuracy problems.

We beat this with:

Nin/war
Rng/nin
Rng/nin
Whm/blm
whm/blm
brd/whm

rngs had regen food plus drink to get hp. Ninja used some hi potions. Both whm were there to erase the bioIII. This fight was real easy if you use mambo+march+ haste on the ninja.

Diabolos is easy till he get low hp (10-20%) then he spam a lot of that nightmare stuff, so we used 2 hours from whm to wake up and then rng's 2 hours to finish him of real quick.

Also i recomend to go in light day as we did.

So my advice... ninja+bard owns this guy. As a side note, our ninja was lvl 39.

Do not let your melee walk in here with a sniper's ring on. The -20 dark resist will kill you.

Do get as much dark resist equipment as you can, I sacrificed my Drone Earrings for dark resist earrings, and a friar's rope, In addition to my Noct gear's Dark resist I did not sleep very long at all.

I would say a Dark Knight is extremely useful, because Nightmare can be stunned, and BLM can't stun until 45. Nightmare is Diabolos' ability that causes Bio AND sleep, I didn't watch how much /tic, but I know my life was going down and I wasn't waking up. This is where the dark resist saved me and I woke up first.

My party was RNG/NIN RNG/NIN RNG/WAR WHM/SMN PLD/WAR DRK/WAR

There are very few things in FFXI that can't be solved by throwing enough rangers at it.

This mission has a lot to do with luck. My static party did a few dry runs. What we noticed is that sometimes Diablos will sleep the entire party multiple times, and sometimes not at all.

Our first dry run most of us spent much of the fight sleeping. Poison does not keep you awake with this special move.

Our second dry run we got him down to about 50% before we tried to win the fight. Unfortunately, he slept much of the party as we decided to go "all out". 2 or 3 of us used our 2hrs and did very little damgage since we all got slept right after we activated it

The third time, we finally won. The only person who used his 2hr was our Rng. Diablos also didn't spam sleepga as he had done in the previous 2 dry runs.

So, when you do this missions, plan to try it a few times (if you don't win right away). There is definitely a lot of luck that will determine the outcome of your fight.

A comment on the floor tiles being removed: In any Diablo fight, the floor tiles will be removed once in one of the three listed patterns. For some reason, I thought they were removed more than once. This means that after the floor tiles get removed, any tile you see left is safe to move onto.

For this mission, everyone needs a Colored Chip, but it does not matter which color you get. You just need to trade one of them to the NPC.

In a future mission/quest, you will need all 3 chips.
