You must be level 71 and have a Great Katana skill of 250. Head on over to Norg and talk to Jaucribaix, he will give you the Tachi of Trials and a key item weapon's manual. Your goal here is to take off the latent effect off the Great Katana. This "cleaning" requires you to use weapon skills and perform skillchains. Each weapon skill and skill chain MUST be performed on a mob easy prey to increadibly tough (IT WILL NOT CLEAN ON TOO WEAK MOBS). Each weaponskill and skill chain you perform gives you points for your Great Katana. You must gather 300 points for the latent effect to clear off.

Point system roughly goes like this:

A Solo Weapon Skill: 1 points

Ending a Level 1 Skill chain: 2 points

Ending a Level 2 Skill Chain: 3 points

Ending a Level 3 Skill Chain: 5 points

After cleaning your Great Katana, head over to Norg and trade the Tachi of Trials to Jaucribaix. He will give you a key item map and tell you to head to the Kuftal Tunnel where you must fight a notorious monster. Head on over to the Kuftal Tunnel, there head to the K-7 ~ L-7 area on the second map. There you will find a spot on the ground with a lone Deinonychus raptor mob guarding the area. Examining that spot spawns the notorious monster Kettenkaefer a beetle type monster.

A balanced party of 70+ should be able to take out the beetle, i brought with me a 74 PLD/WAR, 73 BRD/RDM, 70 DRK/THF, 73 BLM/WHM, 74 WHM/SMN, and a 71 SAM/WAR (me) and took it down with ease.

After defeating the beetle, recheck the spot on the ground to recive the key item: "The Annals of Truth". Go back to Norg and talk to Jaurcibaix and he will congratulate you on your efforts and rewards you with Tachi: Kasha!

you can break your weapon no matter what level sync you are... i was in a level sync party at lv69 and i cleansed the weapon during that... you still can't do it in campaign battle though

If you are in a level 71+ party, then yes.

Can you break the latent on Campaign battles aswell? please post back

I've asked the same question to some people in game and you CANNOT have tags on while WSing to get points. IF it would work the easiest way to do it would be to go to a Beastmen controlled area and bash on the Fortification. Also have a RDM with you (if possible) for haste.

I would assume since you can't get skill ups on the mobs, while flagged for campaign, that you cant get points off them either.

How many points are needed to break this latent? is it 300pts like Savage Blade was?

Edit: becuase i dont read well :P

Latent Break
# Jan 09 2007 at 10:38 AM Rating: Decent
Easy way to get a lot of points if you can't find a party or a friend to help you is to wait for a beseiged to start hopefully a lvl 6 and use your 2 hour before entering which, if you have 100% TP and use meditate along with it can give you 5 Weaponskills and 4 solo SCs "Jinpu - Gekko - SC- Yukikaze - SC - Gekko - SC - Gekko - SC. After go into beseiged and use a revitalizer which will reset all job abilities even 2 hour (hopefully the NPC that is connected to the item is not captured.) Go back out to either area and kill another mob the same way with the 2hour then keep repeating until beseiged finishes. You can probably get 10-15 2hours with this. I 2houred on the spiders in Bhaflau Thickets btw. Hope this helps.

I just hit 71 SAM today and have a GKT skill of 254.
I talked to Jaucribaix and he mentions something about a Mumeito.
I read the post further down where a guy had a similar problem and was told to talk to Ranemaud to "buy a new one". I talked to Ranemaud and he did'nt do anything helpful. I was wondering if i need to redo the samurai flag quest to get another Mumeito, and if not how do i fix the problem?
Need Help Please

Have you done the artifact quests ? most likely he will not let you buy back the mumieto because u still have it in your possesion .. look into the samurai artifact quests and see if there is one that you still need to do .. i think it will end up being the lvl 40 Great Katana .. of course .. i have been wrong before but i hope i helped

The hardest part for me was getting the group together to fight the beetle >_>. If you do it the way I did, bring /NIN. For the points, just grabbed a SMN friend (Retribution, fyi), had carby try and tank the mobs (we went for some spider webs outside Aht Urgan), finished in no time. The beetle was pwned with a 70+ BST/WHM, 70+ THF/NIN, 75 SMN/WHM (same guy who helped with my points, TY Raslin^^), 75 DRK/NIN, and me (71 SAM/18 NIN, I know it's gimped >_>), only one death, from the beetle going nuts on the DRK, and no one healing him >_>. Over all, it wasn't that bad, surprisingly...
this is kinda dumb to me...

yes, Samurai caps out to 251 GKT at 70th. however. Tachi: Kasha is supposed to be the perfection of a Tachi strike and therefor one has to have broken all limits set upon them by the measure of Genkai.

in otherwords, the 71st level requirement is there because you have to have succeeded in Genkai 5 in order to attain Tachi: Kasha.
I can't get quest, please help

ok, I'm 71 and Weapon skill is capped (256) , yet Jaucribaix wont give me the quest. He Keeps Mentioning how he remebers how he forge my Mumento many moons ago, and I have great potential to be a skill warrior. Does any know what I should do? Do I need another Mumento!? If so how do I get another. I chucked it long time ago thinking I would never level sam again >_<

Wow, removing the latent was easier than I thought. I just helped LS members camp some NMs in Sea Serpent Grotto, and one skill up party in Kuftal and I cleared the latent.

Kettenkaefer was a joke. Went with 71Nin/War, 70Nin/War, 71Sam/Thf (me), 75Rdm/Blm, and 65Blm/Rdm. For a Blade: Ten -> SATA Tachi: Gekko Darkness SC every minute!

Thanks to: Tempyst, Kelvenar, Zeik, and Presidentmerman!
Fast cleaning method
# Dec 03 2005 at 11:22 AM Rating: Decent
Advice for sams doing this, considering i just finished doing the cleaning part. Have a pld with you, and go sam/drg. Whenever you have 80%tp and meditate ready, solo a fragmentation. When you're done soloing, meditate will still load your TP to 60-80%, then you can do darkness with the pld.
Did the cleaning part uber fast.

Or of course, have 2 partners and go with wathever sub you want... works just as well. sam/drg + pld/war was fast as hell tho

Just as a note...
The latent effect of the tachi doesn't actually disappear from it, you have to check the elements on your equipment view to see if the +10 water +10 dark effect of the weapon is still there.
Long process, but simple
# Sep 29 2005 at 7:51 AM Rating: Decent
For me it was kinda long but simple, only because most factors that i took to clean my GKT was longer than most strategy. For instance: I got my GKT around 3pm yesterday, and i got invited to a exp party around 4:30 or 5:00pm, then i had a party without a rdm ; ; very good party a blmx2 replaceing the rdm and also a whm so it was still good... i had a thf skillchain with me but we only did distorion for about 5 hours and it was fun then he left and we got a thf with Eviscration and so we did darkness(pld had to use his staff to get MP no chain with him) it didnt take long after that until i cleaned it.

Then we disband got about 20k exp pretty good for no rdm, i got 5 friends to help me, lvl 74rdm, lvl 61mnk, lvl 75 pld lvl 72 nin and me. we didnt know where it was but we had the <pos> so we just looked around till we saw dinosaurs mobs and we found it almost with no problems... we smashed it in about 5-10mins and i got Kasha

I know there are more easier approches so ppl please dont do it like i did i had time tho so try to find a way that best fits you :)
Kasha gaind
# Sep 28 2005 at 9:59 AM Rating: Decent
This wasn't too bad actually, I decided not to do this in exp party as it would have taken considerable time. Instead my NIN friend and I went to Kuftal Tunnel and did Dark SCs against EP Robber Crabs and Sand Lizards - Blade: Ten and Tachi: Gekko.

For each Dark SC I got 5 points off my GKT and so we managed to wipe it clean after about an hour and a half and also gained a bit of exp in the bargain.

Later my LS did Kattenkaefer NM between farming Sky triggers and we easily beat him off with 75 WAR/NIN tanking, Myself (71 SAM) and 75 RDM and the beetle went down pretty quickly.

A pretty fast quest.
Not so bad after all
# Sep 14 2005 at 1:58 PM Rating: Decent
This quest wasnt half as bad as I thought it was gonna be. Did it all in one day. Removing latent effect took one coffer key hunt and blm test hunt in beadaeux, one exp party in ro'maeve, and one coffer key hunt in Eldieme. Didn't take long at all. I just spammed ws's in beadeaux and did Darkness sc in pt and Eldieme. As for the beetle, he's cake. Me (71sam/war) lvl 75 pld/nin lvl 70rdm/whm and lvl 45 whm/blm (was there for refresh and erase) did it with ease. I did die but meh who cares, Tachi: Kasha is BAD. Thank to Damac, Breise, and Dorianl!
some info
# Sep 06 2005 at 4:40 AM Rating: Good
Ok, so here's some clarification that nobody seems to offer:

the way you can tell that you have done enough skillchains to prove your skillz is your hp. The latent effects will be removed from the sword.... yet the info on it will still SAY IT HAS THE EFFECTS ON!! This can be tricky. The sword will still show it having the attributes!! The way to tell is if the HP boost is actually in effect. If it is NOT in effect, then trade this back to NPC in Norg. Tricky, isn't it?

Tachi: Kasha itself is the Final non-Dynamis weapon skill for Samurai. It looks a lot like a normal strike yet it is "perfected." Upon contact, a blood red flower appears and then explodes in a rain of cherry blossums. This Weapon Skill has a Fusion attribute to it and enables the Samurai to make Skillchains of Light. A Light Skillchain is stronger than Darkness and represents in many ways ultimate ability.

The best way to knock out the latent is just xp with it for a while. Check your stats at the end of each party and in no time, you'll be ready for the WSNM fight.

Best thing about the Tachi of Trials is that the damage is about right for lvl 71 to xp with. I had no trouble at all using it.

For my WSNM fight, I had a 75rdm/37nin, 70~ish whm and myself (sam/thf to trick hate onto the rdm). Battle was about 10 minutes due to not a huge amount of DD but it was done with little problem.

Is there any way to tell when the latent effect has been "Cleaned" other than talking to Jaucribaux again?

Answeres to ShindoKokoro,

1. Yes you can perform the weaponskills in a party.

2. No, you trade this Great Katana to Jaucribaix after you finish "cleaning" it. So its gone forever after that so to speak.

3. Tachi: Kasha paralyzes the target.

This weaponskill has Fusion based attributes (Fire and Light element basically). Meaning you would need a Fragmentation skillchain or a Fragmentation based weaponskill (i.e Dragon Kick, Savage Blade, Spinning Slash, etc.)to chain with this to perform a Light skillchain.

It has been tested that the damage of Tachi: Kasha is based on 75% of your own STR. Damage can go anywhere from 500-1500+ on IT's (Depending on SJ, for me as a sub Warrior its gone average from 500-950 on IT. But for Theif's with SATA, this average is alot more higher.)

Heres the site where I found the 75% number.

Correct me if I am wrong with any of the information =D.

On the quest
# Apr 05 2005 at 9:46 PM Rating: Decent
Couple of questions:

1. Can the weapon skills be preformed in a party?

2. Do you get to keep the GK after you're done?

3. What does this WS do? And by that I mean how much damage, and what additional effects like status effect or elemental damage.
