I also soloed this as NIN/WAR, that's probably the best sub becuase I didn't get hit and had to kill Evil Oscar before I ran out of time. Kittyn explained a good strategy, however of all the times I failed there were certain things I forgot that were important.

Equip: Haste set and melee set (also had debuff set becuase he resists stuff often) that doesn't slow down youre movement, use NIN AF boots nighttime.

When you hit and run, DO NOT try to run past it if it warned you several times unless youre stuck in a corner. Even with NIN AF I would get stuck in its AoE. Better to hit then run back. Also, don't run too much, when I played it too safe I would easily run out of time. Time utsusemi Ni so that you can DD without getting hit. You have to keep using blind/berserk/warcry and hit him before 30 minutes passed. You can use food and a daedulus wing to save time.

PLDx2 Setup
# Mar 16 2008 at 8:05 PM Rating: Decent
Did this fairly easy with PLD/WAR PLD/WAR SMN/WHM RDM/BLM MNK/NIN MNK/WAR

- Everybody had RR Gorget/Pin
- PLDS Took turns on taking hate, while running side by side with each other until one died. Continued kiting it from the cicle, down to the zone, and back up. Repeating constantly.
- RDM used Gravity, Bind, Slow, VIT Down(forget spell that causes this) and Choke, while keepin the normal buffs up as well
- SMN kept Stoneskin an Blink up on party, while using Garuda to beat down on Oscar. Also helping with Dia and cures now and again.
- MNKs boosted constantly until Chi Blast was up, and repeated; Never engaging at all. Chi Blast does wonder for damage.

This setup required no one to ever be near Oscar, but if they were, its common sense by now to get away after 2nd warning.

Hope this helps :)

Very common. We tossed a lot of em doing our runs.

Adaman Ignot and D. Cloth also drops from this KSNM. Went with 2 LS friends and 4 pick-ups. (7th stayed at BC and swapped out with the other WHM in hopes of a Morgenstern.) 4/12 on cloths.

4SMN/BRD/WHM - we raped this. The bard helped a lot but I'm certain that we could have done it without refresh. Positioning is key. One smn starts with garuda on Oscar from the south. After Predator Claws the other 3 smns take the N, W, & E spots and go at him. Gave breath warning in /p after he inhaled the second time. This lets the team know to pull back to the walls or shift positions.0 deaths in 12 runs testify that warning before each breath definitely helps.

Since the addition of the earring, you have a better chance of convincing SMN's to do this with you. Be sure to mention D.Cloth, Earring, and the r/e staff that drops from this. :D

3 of us in my LS pooled our rewards and the pick-ups went your orb/your drop method. Earring, D.Cloth, and Morgenstern all dropped on my first orb, with an additional Cloth and O.Ignot from a LS friend. 750k each for the three of us, and I got my new toy!

This is one of the easier KSNM's imo if you have the right setup. We went
Rdm/blm (me) - gravity bind refresh haste dia2 poison2 elemental enfeebles slow
brd/whm - elegy requim, mp songs for mages, wind resist down
whm/blm - raise 3 ***** skill up divine erase
nin/warX2 - kite
smn/whm - BP spam

Expect a ton of deaths, its bound to happen. Extremely bad breath seems to be some sort of aoe instant death, but its easy to get away from if its grav'd. He gives 2-3 warnings before each. Its nice to have the avatar have hate when this happens so only it will be killed. It also uses sweet breath and its melee attacks cause gravity, but that wasnt too bad.
Your best bet is to kite it and have a few smn BP the crap out of it. We won 7/7 with a record of about 5min 10 sec or so. Last run our smn engaged mob b4 nins were in and we still won! It took ups like 19min but we rocked it @4 and no tanks. Was crazy fun and i was grinning like a 4y/o at x-mas after. This ones a cake walk all you need is 4 crazy tarus.

What do you mean he gives warnings? What comes up in the chat log as the warning? I really need to do this for my Morgenstern and currently doing some research on it.

About Weapons?
# Aug 01 2006 at 10:58 AM Rating: Decent
I know the weapons from this all have latents like the trial weapons, my question is does the latent go away in the item's description when you meet the requirements? or will the latent always remain in the description.

Just did this with members from my LS. Set up was NIN, WAR, THF, SAM, RDM, and SMN (me). First 2 tries, we botched mostly due to Extremely Bad Breath (XBB) taking out 2 people at a time, and doing that multiple times in a row. It's best to kite him *in* the arena; don't take him out, chokehold = bad. Have someone set a macro to warn for 1st and 2nd breath attack warnings, and another to say when his breath attack misses (you'll want to do what the other posts say... the message you want to receive is "there is no valid target within area of effect". Be ready to raise- a lot. Run in immediately after he botches the breath attack, he'll temporarily be stunned so you can get a few hits in. Rinse and repeat until dead. All I did was use Garuda to BP for 1000+ (when it connected, about 3/4 of the time) and I was a raise *****.

Also, if he lands a hit on you, he puts gravity on you, and later in the battle he likes to use Sweet Breath.

I apologize if this post is a little erratic.

*edit* also of good note is his defense and evasion is low, and he doesn't have a lot of HP. But since you're not beating on him 100%, he still takes awhile.

I'm so happy. Finally on my 5th attempt. Now the returns on this aren't the greatest unless you're going for a Brown Belt. I don't like having a lot of seals take up inventory so I figured I'd keep trying this KS until I won rather than trying to form a group & doing Desert Swarm again. :-p

For those of you who don't know this KS. You fight 1 Marlboro called Evil Oscar. Oscar will warn you twice then he will perform Extremely Bad Breath. If you get out of range you will be ok otherwise you're dead as the Breath kills you instantly. Normal attacks have additional effect gravity. Basically if you get hit once you're dead. You may be able to get rid of gravity with flee or flee item. Not sure. As Oscar's HP goes down, he will fire off his Breath attack faster & faster.

Here are the tricks to win as Nin/War.

Equip: Bring as much haste gear as possible. I had Walahra Turban & Dusk Gloves & other haste gear for my blink macro then I switch in my Ohat & Okote for fight. You don't want to kite in Dusk Gloves. I pretty much had my Ninja Kyahan on 80% of the time.

Go in at 18:00 with your AF boots. You'll only be using Utsusemi: Ni. Ichi is too risky since you could possibly die w/ 1 double attack.

Basic Strat:
Start out with berserk & blind. Attack it once then run away & repeat. When you have less than 2 shadows run far enough away to cast Utsusemi: Ni w/o getting hit.

When you see Oscar ready Extremely Bad Breath run away. So try to fake him into doing it. Afterwards recast shadows if you have less than 2. You want to be far enough away to not get hit, but not so far that you will disengage. If you're too far away, you may miss the warnings of Breath attacks so you must be careful to be in the perfect range.

Basic strat is to kite him up & down. When you have to run through him, make sure you run to his side that way you'll still get an attack in but not get stuck by his sprite. You should be able to make it through Oscar being attacked only once.

You'll want to capitalize when Oscar misses his Breath TP attack. He will be stunned for a long time. This is the time you should be using your WS if you have it. I used Blade: Ten because I felt Jin took too long. However you must be careful not to run into the Bad Breath as it's receding. I died once doing that. Always try to leave enough room to maneuver. Biggest worry other than getting gravitied is that you get trapped in a corner & Oscar does Bad Breath.

Took me about 50 shihei & 19 minutes & I got an Orich Ingot! Best drop here! Edit: Others have pointed out it's possible to get D cloth & D ingot here. If you can get those, then those are the best drops hands down :)

Good Luck! This is definitely a challenge. I don't have any mage jobs so this may be easier w/ one of those as sub.
Easy KS30
# Apr 22 2006 at 10:04 PM Rating: Decent
Just did this Ks30 a while ago hoping to get Vine for Brwon Belt. You are pitted against a Malboro Evil Oscar who is very susceptable to gravity and bind. My Party set up was NIN-RDM-BLM-SAM-MNK-WHM. All of which were 75 except the sam whom was 72. Evil Oscar does use a instant Death Breath called "Extremely Bad breath" Although it is very short range. For the fight I went in as 75 RDM/BLM and Elemental Sealed Gravity and the NIN voked and did eveything he had for hate. When you see "Evil Oscar Readies Extremely Bad breat" melee run behind him until its safe and Tank keep kiting up and down the ramp. It is a very short Ranged AoE so there is almost no danger from it as long as you focused. Sam and MNK made Darkness and me and BLM SC'ed. He doesn't have alot of HP. We continued to kite/SC/MB and killed it in 13min. Crappy drops and the Brown Belt Quest item did not drop. But its a simple enough KS30 to try it again for another. So if your to lazy to camp the NM like me and lots of seals try this ou.

I have heard to use jobs with pets to take it out, but do you think if I went tank, WHM(me), and either 3 RNG/1 BLM or 2 RNG/2 BLM we would be able to kill this thing easily? I figure between 2 shadow binds and 2 Elem. Seal+Binds we could keep it bound when it is "breathing in" as long as their was a bind order. Everyone but the tank keeps a safe distance anyway. I really want a Morgenstern.

And Somepage says it DOES drop the Brown Belt vine.
