Battle Notes

You must have completed Chains of Promathia Mission 2-5 Ancient Vows before you can receive this ENM. If you have access to Monarch Linn, speak to Morangeart in the Tavnazian Safehold. He will give you a key item: Monarch Beard. Make your way to Monarch Linn.

You will have a choice between four different ENMs and can only complete one battle every 5 Earth days.

Should you choose "Fire in the Sky", you will be capped at level 40 and fight a Cluster mob named Razon. You have 15 minutes to defeat him. Three people are allowed into the battlefield.

Strategies

A Red Mage using Chainspell and Fire II can solo this ENM.

I have a huge hunch this is not gonna work at all, but I may know how to survive the third explosion, and it has to do with the title.

The Rebirth Flame.

I highly, highly doubt the success of it, but if the hint matches this (it's a feather from a phoenix, maching fire and sky{), this item might not only give you reraise, but allow you to stay in the battle. Just noting that this will probably not work all all, however, but anyone with spare time to climb Parradamo Torr could try this out. XD
This bomb is a pansy

Okay, Now 3 for 4 on this fight. Has become a sort of passtime for my LS's mini-core group. We usually get together and farm scales just before the fight to make sure our timing is down. The Firedrakes are *usually* more challenging than Razon.

Our Setup:
Drg/War (for farming scales, and I love to play Drg) Any Melee with voke should work just fine
Smn/Whm (healing while farming/astral flow Razon)
Blm/Rdm (nuking/healing)

Here is how we do it. Once everybody has their Monarch Beard key item, we farm up our scales. Make your way to Monarch Linn and check your macros. Once everyone is set, enter the portal and Buff up. Mithkabobs/persikos au'lait for melee and standard juices/ethers/pies for mages. Smn casts aerial armor and rests mp. Once full, Smn pops a juice and summons Ifrit and waits for recast to be up. Once up, Ifrit assaults Razon while Blm and melee wait by the zone. Once hate is solidified on Ifrit, Smn astral flow/Inferno and gets back to the zone. After initial self destruct and Ifrit dies, melee runs to center and vokes the bomb but does not attack. You are a punching bag at this point (Nin would be great for this). After Ifrit is back in action and has hate, run back to the zone. After the second self destruct, melee runs back in and Vokes again and starts wailing on the remaing bomb. Blm can start nuking/curing at this point, but be careful not to take hate. Final Astral Flow, and it's all over for poor 'lil Razon. Open your crate and collect your reward.

I know 2 smns would destroy this bomb, but for those of us without the luxury of a static ENM with 2 smn's this technique works great, and is much more fun i think.

Some notes and pointers:
* Blm - Don't start nuking until AFTER the second Self destruct. You don't want to take hate and accidentally mess up Inferno. You are main healer for first part. (I know, I speak blasphemy, but bear with me, OK)
* Melee - Bring Hi-potion or X-Potion. Only needed them once after a particularly nasty Critical but better safe than sorry.
* Smn - bring a stock of Juices and Ethers, you know what you need to do.
* Use Garnet rings (or Courage rings if you dont have Garnets) and keep Barfira on.
*Fight on firesday if possible. Harder than it sounds, just don't fight on watersday and you'll be fine. If it is watersday when you start, just farm more scales until the day changes. You can carry more than one and it will save you some time on your next run.

Only failed this ENM once until we got our strategy down, and that was more bad luck than anything else. I went in early and voked/attacked and Blm nuked the hell out of it, trying to take it down hard. First self destruct did and obscene amount of damage (first time ever in our experience) wiped me and Blm out. Smn wasnt ready when we started and missed first Inferno because of our our (my) impatience. All said, she still almost got a solo victory, unprepared as she was.

Here's what we got for our efforts:
#1 - Crossbowman's ring (sold and split 3 ways, couple thousand)
#2 - Horror Voulge (again split 3 ways, almost 20k each)
#3 - Death
#4 - got Woodsman's Ring and Ether Ring. Could almost hear the angels singing when that crate was opened.

Hope this post helps any of you out for one of these fine items. Maybe, just maybe, somebody wont have to shell out 600k for an ether ring or 900k for a woodsmans.

Good luck and happy hunting!

One of my ENM trio for this mission has been on holiday for 2 weeks, so it has given me some time to think about this nasty.

Mostly, the last self-destruct (heron referred to as Final Destruct) seems to be the only real problem to this fight. I am beginning to wonder, is there a chance Final Destruct happens on a timer?

Anybody that has cleared the ENM and is reading this, do you know your clear time? My suspicion is that most people (not doing the 3 SMN super approach) aren't killing the mob fast enough, taking too defensive a strategy.

Also, since I havn't played this fight since the update, does anybody know of what changes (if any) have taken place and how they affect the outcome of the fight?

Answers on a postcard, please.

So.. apparently since this ENM has been changed, I have a question. How do you think 3 SMN would do in here? If the initial 3 infernos would kill the mob, you're not likely to have a final self-destruct. On the other hand, I can see problems arising if the mob isn't dead after the first wave.
Final Self-Destruct
# Jul 25 2005 at 5:37 PM Rating: Decent
This ENM is getting annoying.

I(WHM) went with two other friends(NIN and BLM) the other day AFTER the update and it seems that it has been changed. I heal up the tank till the 2nd self-destruct and then run out of range of the 3rd SD so that we could win, and I did avoided getting hit by the 3rd SD. The NIN and the BLM got hit for some 2700 dmg as usual.

However, now I get a message "the razon's self-destruct kicked you out of the arena" and we were all ported back to the entrance.

So I suppose you have to actually defeat the NM before its final SD now?

Is there a chance that its magic and/or ranged attacks that encourage this monster to explode?

Perhaps an attempt to discourage all the recent "Lets just take 3 SMN in and 2 hour the poor thing" strats...

Any melee heavy groups manage to make it through without facing the SDs?

Yes, it's possible to not get hit by it (since the fight has been cleared more than once by myself and people I know), however I really don't know if there's a set way to "avoid" it.

Sometimes it blows up just as you're wearing it down, other times it doesn't do a thing. I really wish there was some logic to it, but at the moment, I can't see anything that indicates a pattern.

Hello fellow Dark Knights!
I have been wanting to obtain 2 Woodsmen Rings, but i am not paying 1 mil each for them! so ive done my research and looked into this ENM and have discussed this battle with my LS member, but we cant seem to agree on a stradegy that i have soo here it is...
(this is a cluster bomb ENM and ?will? explode 3 times)

Materials

X-Potions (3+ for each person??)

Hi-Ethers

Rereise Scroll (CP Item)

Warp Scroll (CP Item)

Jobs

DRK, SMN, SMN

Battle Plan

Buss the F*ck up!

Use Reraise Scroll

DRK Casts Stun / Provokes

SMNs use Ifirts 2 HR

Use X-Potions when HP is down!

Use Hi-Ethers if MP is low!

DRK keeps casting Stun

Then defeat the mob after the first 2 explosions or die
when you die after the last explosion you win b/c of reraise

Collect Treasure!

Bsically in simple words DRK spams Stun while SMN's Nuke it with Ifirits 2 HR all whiile using X Potions to stay alive through the first 2 explosions (if they explode)

I heard that Stun prevents/delays it from Exploding giving you enough time to kick the living sh*t outta it with LA+Zerk+soul Eater + Blood and SMNs 2 hours(maybe not LA and Zerk lol) so that the bomb will not beable to explode and dmg ur PT! ^^;

Like most DRKs i am not uber rich and dont want to lvl up a SMN for this fight b/c it will cost to much Gil, nor do i have the time. Hopefully my LS members will let me get the first two woodsmen rings :)

oh yeha if you die you do not lose any EXP :)

Does this battle plan sound good?

I know this was suggested a very long time ago however can anyone confirm that you can win this way? I've heard from a couple people in my LS that if the 3rd explosion goes off, you don't get anything, even if you RR yourself.

Aw, ickle Firedrakes aren't that hard.

You need a competant blink-tank to make it really easy and even easier if you stick to the Tough ones (which there are a number of). The biggest mistake my friends have made is taking on everything from T to IT++ ones, then wondering why they struggle and even die.

Check the Firedrakes before you engage them. Only fight IT if you have no alternatives.
So easy. :)

Just fought last night with DRK, NIN, BLM. We spent more time buffing and resting for MP than actually fighting.

After 15 seconds of engaging the thing, it used it's first Self-Destruct but I stunned it. 5 seconds after that it did it again. I weapon-bashed, but not fast enough, and it blew for 0 damage. 5 seconds after that, it readied another Self-Destruct. "Uh-oh" was uttered, since my Stun timer was in nowhere near ready. It blows up and we're all in the red. A few hi-potions get used, and just as we're hitting yellow, it does Self-Destruct a final time.

This one hit us all for 2900ish. So we're all standing there are 0 health, but not falling down dead. Then we're transported to the "victory" area and collapse in a heap with "you have cleared..." message in the chat log.

The lesson? Next time we're all eating reraise scrolls before the fight. I reccomend you do the same. If you can survive the first two self-destructs, you can let the last one go off if you wanted and get an instant-win. I'd also be willing to put forward that self-destruct strength relates to overall HP of the mob, since the first self-destruct did 0 damage after we had hurt it a good ammount.

A quick update to my tales of woe (I should get a regular spot):

An attempt was made at this ENM again, because it's a hell of a lot of fun, really. We all use a Reraise scroll at the start of the fight and by using a softly-softly approach, managed to whittle it's health down as well as survive the first two explosions. It would definatly seem that the strength of each explosion relates directly to the overall HP of Razon at that time. After 1/3rd of it's HP was gone, it did a double self-destruct so I couldn't stop them both, and blew for 0 damage. Later on it did the same again, blowing for double-digits damage, at around 2/3rds of it's HP gone.

The final shock was that at 4/5th dead, I gave word to my BLM to nuke the nasty to death. Big mistake. One Fire II later (enough to outright kill it by my guess) it performed it's final Self-Destruct, however this time without any warning at all. It exploded before any "Rezon readies Self-Destruct" message had even appeared in our chat logs and did a massive 2000+ damage to everybody (again), outright ending the fight.

We got the "you have cleared the battlefield" message, and then we chuckled as we were raised by the reraise effect of the scrolls. Unfortunatly for us, it dumped us in "loser alley" where no treasure awaited us. I wouldn't call it unfair, but certainly the messages are rather misleading. How can we clear an area and not have "won" to deserve reward?

Anyways, if anybody planned to do this with reraise, don't bother: I tried, it failed and we all cried about it later.

So, two questions now remain:

  • Why did the mob perform it's final self-destruct without warning and just as we were dealing the final blows?

  • And is there a way around the thing's resistance to physical attacks. The Ninja had a hard time keeping hate when all she does it hit it for 0-2 damage. On occasion though, something would change and the melee damage would return to a normal figure. Is there a trick to this?

  • If anybody has answers, I'd love to hear them.

This is just a guess, but if it's anything like some of the older Final Fantasy games, casting Fire spells on bomb-types will cause them to either get bigger/stronger or self-destruct.

Unlike the "Time Bomb" BCNM, if this thing kills your whole pt with its final self-destruct, it doesn't give you a chance to reraise. SD 1 and 2 only did 0 and 4 damage to my pt, but then its final one did over 2500 damage with a very wide AOE... whm was hit from halfway across the map. Either way, it said we cleared the ENM, but we were immediately booted and had no chance to open the crate.

Thus ENM *used* to be really easy with a smn. One use of ifrit's 2hr would get it down to 30% hp or so, then it was just a matter of keeping everyone alive until the SMN could do it again to take it out. The bomb is pretty strong to physical attacks.

Just did this a couple times recently, ifrit's 2hr did half the danage it used to, and actually required my 2hr and a few nukes from the whm to beat lol.

One time I tried this with four people, it used all three self-destructs in succession and killed us before we had a chance to hurt it ><

Pre-Reqs: All you need to do is talk to Morangeart in the Tavnazian Safehold to get a Monarch Beard. Then you have to progress through Riverne to get to Monarch Linn. Then... Fire in the Sky will be one of the choices for the battlefield.

This ENM is very easy with a Summoner. It does not matter what other two jobs you bring along, but a Summoner is excellent for a quick win. Ifrit's 2hr (Inferno) does 1200+ damage on the NM!! That amount of damage takes the NM's hp down to nearly 1/3. Then you just need to wait another minute for the Summoner to 2hr a second time with Ifrit and you win! :) A Summoner could solo this, and two summoners could get the best record as only 2 Astral Flows are needed with Ifrit to take the NM out completely. If you go with three ppl though, at least take someone with /war for provoke.

Anyway, happy killing and winning and all that jazz. :)

okay this is how we i did it with 2 friends
    we went a rng/nin rng/nin nin/war.
for nin it was very easy to hold hate since rng
wear not doing that mutch dmg about 22dmg a shot.
holy bolt seem to do the most dmg on him and
    shodowbind aint working.
for the nin it was a bit harder he lost blink multipull times and had to use about 3 or 4 potions and some hp regen food.
seen over all it went prety smooth, but i is probely a good idee to let the nin just kite the bomb around,

we did it in about 3 minuts maybe a bit more and got the ether ring dropt, first one on AH on hades /cheer

I don't think its worth it. The bomb's damage is stupidly random; he can just decide to explode(as one of his /three/ Self-Destructs) for 550 dmg or more, and in a 40 cap this is no joke. I've done it three times and haven't seen the good drops once. Going from Jeuno to Monarch Linn (not counting the scale farming to open the warps) takes a long time anyway. I think there are much better ENM to spend our time on.
