In-Game Text

Description

You must have a Axe skill of at least 240 and be at least level 71 to begin this quest. If you're ready to accept the mission, head to Upper Jeuno and speak with Brutus.

He will hand you a key item (Weapon Training Guide) as well as a axe, the Pick of Trials. He asks you to test a new axe for the Teshondo untill the axe is dull, which roughly means you need to remove the latent effect off of it by participating in skillchains and performing weapon skills. The number of SCs and WSs you need to do before the axe is sufficiently blunt goes by a strict point-based system:

Solo-WS or opening any level SC: 1 pt.

Close LVL1 SC: 2 pt.

Close LVL2 SC: 3 pt.

Close LVL3 SC: 5 pt.

- Total Needed: 300 pt.

-

Participate in SCs until you've accumulated enough points for the latent effects on the Pick of Trials to dissappear. (Note: the text on the item description will remain, but the effects will expire)

After the latent effects are off of the Pick of Trials, return to Brutus and trade him the axe. He will hand you yet another key item (Map to the Annals of Truth) and tell you to proceed to the Temple of Uggalepih.

Head to the J-9 entrace from Yhoator Jungle and touch the ??? at G-9. An NM Sapling named Yallery Brown will appear. Defeat him. Once Yallery Brown is dead, check the ??? again to receive yet another key item (Annals of Truth).

Now head back to Upper Jeuno and speak w/ Brutus again. After a short cutscene, you will receive your long-awaited prize: Decimation!

Just to clear up a few things... all of these quest are the same basic conditions. WS in campaign dont count, while WS in bes do. You cant have two WS quest open at the same time.
pretty much sums it up i suppose.
for beastmasters?
# Nov 09 2009 at 12:41 PM Rating: Decent
I never asked any bsts I know, are we able to use this? If so, would a bst be able to solo the NM?
Forgot to update comment thing that said my beastmaster is 66. It's actually 72 >.<;

anyone know if its possible to get this quest and start braking latent when you allready have lets say the savage blade quest active?

I have the keyitem for WSNM fight on sword but never seem to be able to get a party to go and kill the NM. i am afraid that i will loose the keyitem or something and would have to start over on sword if i start this quest
what gives

Did this fight today. At first, I tried to fight him with my npc, but it hits fast and hard. I went as pld/nin. Died, rr and waited for my friend Meson.

He was blu/nin. After he got to the spot, we pulled to the entrance, I started fighting it with the npc while Meson zoned one of the tonberries. Pretty much the fight took about 10 min or a little more. Head butt kicked Yallery's butt. Hit me a couple of times with the sprout spin and put me on red. NPC cured about 3 times with cure 5.

I was not sure if we could actually beat the NM with just us three but we did it. Meson is an awesome blu!!! Thanks Meson. :)

Did this Sapling fight today with a pt of mostly 75
75mnk/nin (me)
75bst/whm
75smn
75whm
75blm
71smn
Very easy. It was down to 1/4 by the end of hundred fists.
I'd venture that a pt of 4 with a decently equipped /nin tank and whm, and another melee and mage could take this.

Absolute must that mages stays far back and watch for the sleepga move and sprout spin.

Considering it can be soloed with ease by a RDM or NIN, I'd venture you're right.

Do we have to keep track of how many points we have or is there a way to find out how many we have? Thanks.
Count
# Aug 07 2006 at 1:51 AM Rating: Decent
Yes you do have to keep track of it yourself. I reccomend using a book of at least 300 pages. When you do a WS, turn the appropriate number of pages. when you've hit page 300, you should be done. You do NOT need to unequip the weapon to see if the effects are gone. just look at your elemental resitance. If you still have them, you're not done. If you don't, you are.

From instructions above:
Quote:
Solo-WS: 1 pt.

Does this mean you get zero points for a WS when in a duo?
(say WHM is in the duo and does no skill chains)

No, it means you get 1 point when doing a solo weaponskill (when you don't make a skillchain).

At first I totally did not understand your post...but I got it!

Solo WS means just a WS by itself. In that context, "Solo" has nothing to do with the amount of members in a party. Me and my pet are out wreaking stuff and I get a point for using Mistral Axe (Granted the mob IS EP or higher).

This site is just filled with wrong info. I was under the belief that opening lvl 3 SCs was 3 points. After calculating 300 points i was wondering why my weapon never broke. Then I found out it is only 1 after alla says it is 3.......

My LS trio'd it with BSTs but to be safe, we let the first round of pets go it alone while we stayed out of range. We went /whm after a failed attempt of /nin fighting with 1st pets. This mob's hate is iffy so be careful. This is less of an issue now with Snarl though.

Took long enough, but eh...

Decimation is pretty much the other white meat, when it comes to WAR's Light ability. It doesn't have Mistral Axe's ability to fire off from a distance, but it looks pretty. Has a nice little twist into it.

You only get 1 point for opening any skillchain. A WAR friend and I did spinning slash > mistral axe for his latent effect when he started with 0 points. This should have left me with 180 points when he got to 300, but it wasn't even close when we did the reverse for ground strike for me. I recorded it after every skillchain and the amount of points I needed was the same as if opening gave one point.

The Relic WS is BST exclusive, as is the Relic Axe itself.
