Summary

Luto Mewrilah has asked you to locate a special metal that can be used to repair the broken mirror. According to her research, this substance can only be found inside an extremely rare species of slime.

Walkthrough

You must have completed the Tactics Pearl mini-quest to start this quest. This is false. I have not done Tatics pearl quest yet. NPC is 55 and I have blighted Gloom flagged.

Start out by speaking with Luto Mewrilah in Upper Jeuno. If your friendship with your Adventuring Fellow is strong enough, you will receive this quest after completing Past Reflections. Luto Mewrilah asks you to find a special metal inside a rare slime. She will tell you to go to one of three locations: Ordelle's Caves (I-5), Korroloka Tunnel (I-9), or Ranguemont Pass (I-9).

When you tag the ???, a custcene will show the Metallic Slime popping and your Adventuring Fellow coming to help fight. When the cutscene ends, you can start fighting along with your NPC. Once the slime is dead, immediately speak to your Adventuring Fellow, then touch the ??? again. You will receive the key item: Vitrallum. Return to Upper Jeuno and speak with Luto Mewrilah again.

During another cutscene, Luto Mewrilah will tell you that you now need to find a spring with a surface as smooth as glass. Head to Jugner Forest by way of King Ranperre's Tomb. There is a ??? by the lake at (G-5). Touch it for a cutscene. When the cutscene is over, you will have completed the quest.

Your reward is a stronger bond with your Fellowship NPC.

Must you solo Vitralium fight?

I'm a lvl 40 BLM, my npc is lvl 33. Luto is sending me to Ranguemont Pass - do I need to solo this?
My little experience.

Just my two cents in this. I don't exactly level my NPC a whole lot and I don't talk to it very often either (Both during battle and at the points in towns.) And when I say this, I mean bearly. But I do know, I had been trying to get the quest recently so I started to actually do it.

Nothing had changed until my NPC hit lvl 35 so I'm assured that's the level you get this quest. I say this only because as stated above, I made no effort to try and talk to my NPC.

Also, just to make it clear, your NPC doesn't have to be recharged or anything before fighting the slime. I pesersonally got Ranguemont Pass. The position, like above is (I-9), but really, just take rights all the way there until you find the ???. The fight was amazingly easy being a 64 RDM and my 35 NPC. I sc'd my NPC's Tachi: Enpi and my Shining Blade for a Blizzard II's Distortion, which made him fall quick ^_^. Would be useful to have a type of warp out afterwards if you dont have a map.

Now! The second part in Jugner Forest... Didn't have the map so I had to get mine online. All I can say here is I hope you guys read online maps as well as I do <.<, Good luck! The cutscene is worth it, lol.

The NPC level is not what activates this quest. I speak with my NPC a lot, and have just gotten this quest info (my NPC told me she was asked to check into something) with my highest job being whm41, and my NPC being lv31 (about halfway to 32, according to the NPC statement when called in field)

You have to treat your NPC as if he's a lvl one player when it comes to upgrading weapons.

So if you want to give your NPC his first weapon you have to give him a lvl1 weapon not a lvl 30 weapon.

For example if you want your NPC to travel down the sword path you give him a brass sword then a Xiphos then Scimitar etc...

Same with Shield. If you want your NPC to wield a different type of weapon then you have to trade that type to Luto and your NPC will use that type of weapon next time you use him.

EG you give your NPC a brass sword but later want him as a healer then you trade in a Ash staff and your npc should fight with a staff not a sword.

Note you can give your npc a shield at the same time you give Luto a sword.

Your reward is a stronger bond with your Fellowship NPC. I talked to mine at a Rendezvous Point immediately afterward. The only new option I got was a new piece of headwear. She can now equip a Trader's Chapeau, which I think is a great improvement over her Circlet.

My NPC is now lvl 40 and she's been using the Trader's Chapeau before I got the Quest Blighted Gloom...

I'm goin to try finish this quest today and see if there's a new headgear for my NPC to wear =p

I just received this quest today.. Just after my NPC leveled to 36, i was able to equip a new piece of headgear 'before' doing this quest. Just thought id give my 2cents worth, being i seen some info, by others differing.. I am told talking to your NPC OFTEN between battles helps get more quests.. this is my first quest and first time i've been able to change equiptment (other than weapons).

I would imagine that once you toggle the first AF quest and the gloves one, you can get all your pieces; you just can't WEAR them.

My npc is a lvl 41 healer. I just got this quest, but I already had the new headgear. I got it after the last update. So I don't think this quest has anything to do with that.

After you kill the nm, talk to you npc, then check the ??? otherwise if npc goes you have to rezone and try again.

I just got this quest the other day. I'm a lv43 rdm. Yoli was lv34, with a kanesada from her 3rd weapon upgrade, wearing level one racial armor.

Luto sent us to Ranguemont Pass, Yoli and I fought the slime but it killed her pretty quickly. So, I zoned came back and tried again, but I ran out of mp curing Yoli and she got killed again. (clicking on the ??? didn't give me the Vitrallum with Yoli dead).

I came back again today and it was pretty easy with Yoli now lv35 and me still lv43 rdm. Some differences aside from the new level is that her armor was slightly better (scale male). Probably the biggest difference was that her combat style was Shield before, and I changed it to Attacker this time.

Incidentally, Yoli had fancier armor a couple of days before I got the blighted gloom quest, I don't know what you call it. I see people around lv30ish wearing it (it's blue, maybe it's wool).

Then I called her when I was a lv20 whm and she switched to lv1 racial armor the next time I called her!? So, I guess she doesn't like it if she's level capped.

Oh, also, there was no change to the headgear option after completing this quest. Before the quest, she had either a green ribbon or a bronze cap that she could equip. Immediately after completing the quest and getting the message that my bond is strengthened, I went to the rendezvous place and her headgear options are the same as before.

Another almost related detail, she got her 4th weapon upgrade today before the quest, but I gave Luto the Lance after completing the quest.

I received the quest "Cameleon Capers" after getting my NPC to level 46. Not sure on how many times I've called her exactly, but I got the quest after using her just after the update last night. Anyway, speak to Luto to receive a cutscene in which someone is impersonating her and trying to sell Costume Kits. After the imposter is identified, he gets trapped in a new costume. Luto will ask to meet her in Ru'lude gardens. Speak with Muhoho on the balcony of the Guard Post to receive another cutscene. Luto will ask you to travel to Bastok to obtain a "Jar of Reversion Dust." Head to Bastok Mines and speak to Gelzerio at the desk of "Boytz's Knickknacks" to receive another cutscene. From here you must travel to Windhurst Waters and speak with Chamama, inside the "Rarab's Tail". Yet another cutscene, at the end of which you receive your "Reversion Dust". Head back to Jeuno and speak with Luto again, who will tell you he's missing, and asks you to find him. Your NPC will then suggest an area to search, mine was Delkfutt's Tower. On my way to figure the rest of it out. I'll update when I do.

If you have the Southern San d'Oria quest "A Timely Visit" open and at the point of near completion (Double NM Fight) Luto will not give you this quest.

Evidence: Had NPC to level 47, never dropped signal pearl, all other quests finished (except NPC limit-breaks of course) All my friends had already completed "Blighted Gloom". Couldn't understand it at all. Luto steadfastly refused to say anything new.

Realised that "Timely Visit" NM fight ??? was very close to "Blighted Gloom" ??? in Jugner.
Went there, fought the 2 NMs. Won, warped to Jeuno and immediately spoke to Luto. She gave me "Blighted Gloom" just like that..after weeks of nothing.

......how much more evidence do you want!

I'm thinking this is some kind of failsafe to stop you popping NMs or even just to stop confusion over the ???s

I did have A timely Visit quest open at near the end. When I got the Blighted Gloom Quest. There are two different ??? one is at F-5 (Double NM fight) and the other one is at G-5

Which headgear gets unlocked by completing this quest is dependant on which character facemodel/race you picked.
