Summary

Luto Mewrilah has asked you to locate a special metal that can be used to repair the broken mirror. According to her research, this substance can only be found inside an extremely rare species of slime.

Walkthrough

You must have completed the Tactics Pearl mini-quest to start this quest. This is false. I have not done Tatics pearl quest yet. NPC is 55 and I have blighted Gloom flagged.

Start out by speaking with Luto Mewrilah in Upper Jeuno. If your friendship with your Adventuring Fellow is strong enough, you will receive this quest after completing Past Reflections. Luto Mewrilah asks you to find a special metal inside a rare slime. She will tell you to go to one of three locations: Ordelle's Caves (I-5), Korroloka Tunnel (I-9), or Ranguemont Pass (I-9).

When you tag the ???, a custcene will show the Metallic Slime popping and your Adventuring Fellow coming to help fight. When the cutscene ends, you can start fighting along with your NPC. Once the slime is dead, immediately speak to your Adventuring Fellow, then touch the ??? again. You will receive the key item: Vitrallum. Return to Upper Jeuno and speak with Luto Mewrilah again.

During another cutscene, Luto Mewrilah will tell you that you now need to find a spring with a surface as smooth as glass. Head to Jugner Forest by way of King Ranperre's Tomb. There is a ??? by the lake at (G-5). Touch it for a cutscene. When the cutscene is over, you will have completed the quest.

Your reward is a stronger bond with your Fellowship NPC.

messed up

so i just wanted to post this in case anyone is having the same problem.
I accidentally spawned the slime camping an nm in korrolaka tunnel. just got curious about the ???. i killed the slime and didn't get the key item. i just zoned out. was really weird. so when i figured out what quest it was i went back to get key item. couldn't get vitrallum or spawn slime. i then went to all 3 areas. well i was pissed. Anyway for some reason i glitched the quest or something and went to jugner just to see if i could get the CS and i did. so if u don't have vitrallum key item and can't get it at all after killing slime then try and do the next CS and see what happens 'cause i've spent a good 4-5 hours total over a few weeks trying to figure this out. hope this helps

Quest Correction

As posted before, you DO NOT have to have finished or started the Tactics Pearl quest to do this one. Luto will tell you the place you are to visit once and only once, and that is when you initally get the quest so WRITE IT DOWN. To get the key item, you must wait for your NPC to despawn, then check the ???.
Frustrated

Ok I've doen the tactics pearl quest, even though some posts said its not needed, did it just in case anyways. I talked to Luto and got a long cs about the Vitrallum, but problem is I had to rush through it and I didn't catch what place to go to. I've tried talking to Luto again and she doesn't say and neither does my npc. Should I just run to all 3 places and hope that one of them pops slime? My friend started this quest too and he had to rush through it too, what are the chances that we both got the same place? lol Any help will be appreciated. ><

If you have not yet completed your Tactics Pearl quest, you will not be able to complete this quest. And to do your Tactics Pearl quest you must complete the requirements to do Promyvion.

If you have been given this quest and Luto will not tell you what location to travel to, this is the problem. You can go to all three listed and click on the ??? and no Metalic Slime will spawn.

Kill, Talk, Check
# Feb 13 2007 at 2:57 PM Rating: Decent
So, when i first flagged this quest i went off to find my metallic Slime thing. I did this quest when my NPC was lvl 50 and i was 68 EASY!!!!!!! i owned it like 3 hits so funny. Anyway to the point for those like me who read the walkthrough and hope it's right.
1.Check the ???, get CS
2.Kill Slime
3.Talk to NPC
4.Check ??? again
5.Get key item.
I had to kill the thing 3 times before i did it right, just trying to make your process shorter then mine. Hope it helps.

-.- I have the worst luck with my npc fellow!
# Oct 23 2006 at 11:44 AM Rating: Decent
Of anything I've done in this game, I've had the worst of luck with my NPC fellow. I tried to get a friend to help me start the Fellow quest and got the ugly old elf man. I had to run through the quest to a point where I could start over and get a better looking Fellow.

This time I was in a party that happened to be forming up right in front of Luto. I got bored waiting on everyone to "gather together." They were spread out at AH and stuff. So I decided to click on Luto. About two sentences into her speal a really irritable mithra party leader with a sharp tongue ordered us to Teleport! I zipped through the long, long, long CS not able to read any of it. I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE I'M SUPPOSE TO GO NOW!!! I thought I could read about it later on this site only to find out I have 3 choices and no clue as to which one Luto said. ;;
Thanks TomasV!

The link is very helpful the only thing I think this thread missed is the fact that you have to get to Jugnar from King R's Tomb other than that it is pretty straight foward I got the quest @ 34 and sloed Slime w/ my 72 thf/nin no problem. Of course I tried to get the water from Jugnar through Battila and that is not possible.
NPC level not a factor
# Jul 30 2006 at 2:03 PM Rating: Decent
These quests have nothing to do with your NPCs level and everything to do with your relationship with them. If you can't get the quest just call them at the Rendevous Point a few more times, have chat with them and try again. I got this quest with a level 31 NPC!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

does this happen after u get a tactics pearl? luto won't tell me anything... NPC at rendevous point tells me that i hope we can help find that metal.... blah blah blah... i checked all three ??? at all the 3 locs and nothing... please help me out!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
# Jul 22 2006 at 5:50 AM Rating: Decent
You might still need to get your npc relationship up a bit. Luto talks about the metal well before you can actually get this quest. Also, you should recieve the npc-promy quest from a rendevous point before this.
dead slime

I killed it yesterday as a 50war/25mnk. It was really easy. My npc was lv 36 at the time. I used my 2 hr but I wouldn't have needed it. I had iron musketeer aromr set on and use a Horror Voulge (great axe). I had to kill it 3 times because my internet kept kicking me off but it was easier than I thought.

Problems with this quest...

I am SURE I got Ordell's Caves but "there is nothing out of the ordanary here" when I check the ??? And Luto is talking about a spring.... I did let it sit for a month or so, but I know I didn't spring and fight a slime.

/disgusted

Well, off to Rangemont pass and Korokola Tunnel I guess.

I can confim you can get this quest if your NPC is level 34.

Just got it there, and my NPC is level 34.

Spoilers below!

Does Pamoleta DIE in this quest? At the end, Luto says "Poor Pamoleta. How I wish you were simply sleeping...". I mean, that would actually be ridiculous, since everyone else get's Flared, and she gets blinded, but, still. I guess I'll have to finish the next quest to find out...

I got the quest when my NPC was level 32, so it's not hard to get. That mob was a *****. As a 44 DRK/ 22 THF, I almost mopped the floor with him. That is, until it used fluid squirt for 212 damage, and fluid spread for 134. I started off with 300% TP, got 1 slice off for 142 damage. I was hitting for 50-60, which is really low for me, except on IT mobs. Meanwhile this thing is hitting me for 40-50 damage. I finished the fight with 30/747 HP. >.< Just beware fluid spread if you are soloing it. A 44 BLM could probably take this thing easy, as long as they kept it bound and spam Fire II. I don't recomend fighting this mob until at least 43, except for Ninjas maybe.

For some reason I keep getting my NPC quests quite quickly. I speak to my NPC everyday and when I take him out into the field I speak to him also.

I got Past Relections at NPC lvl 31, and I got Blighted Gloom at lvl 34. So it's not impossible.

My NPC at the time had rank 3 weapon & he had two sets of headgear. Both I might add look horrendous.
Ordelle's
# May 21 2006 at 10:09 PM Rating: Default
As mentioned in a post, way down, you MUST talk to your NPC after the fight, before s/he goes, and then check the ??? again to get the key item.
Also, I checked with my NPC before going to Ordelle's but after I logged the quest, and I had the option to change headgear, so it is NOT a reward for this quest.
For the Ordelle's quest, you go to the right in the first chamber and follow path, staying left, until you come to the chamber before you exit back to La Thaine. It is one the second map of Ordelle's if you have it. The ??? is on a rock outcrop in that chamber.
My NPC had just recently leveled to 35. I talk to my NPC often, both in field and in Jeuno. I could not get the quest when my NPC was 34. I'd have to say that though I've seen a couple of ppl say they got it earlier, it most likely is available when your NPC hits 35.

Quest!
# Apr 26 2006 at 9:42 AM Rating: Decent
You can get this quest quite early actually for me i got it at lvl 32 npc the same i complete the first quest. its not dependent on what lvl your npc is at all, i read on killing ifrit or some other site that it is actually the amount of times u bring your npc out, how much u talk to him/her,that ups your bond with your npc enough where u get offered the quest.

So on a bad day I get this quest and I'm really irritated at someone who is mocking me while I'm in the cutscene, so I speed through it like a madwoman. Later, I disconnect and come back on, (therefore I can't read my log), and I go 'hmmm now where did I have to go?'.

So I ask Ruto, she says nothing but 'Vitrallum is a cool metal. blahblahuselesscrap.'.
So I go to the RP, and my npc is like 'hmm the dark divinity sounds evil! blahblahuselesscrap.'

Now I don't even remember where I'm supposed to go, and so I go check the upper jeuno bard for the cutscene again... but it's not listed there.

Am I missing something here?

I'm in the same situation.. but it's not that difficult to solve really... just visit all 3 places. That slime will run out of hiding places soon enough :) Still, kinda annoying...
