Battle Notes

To begin, trade 50 Beastmen Seals to Shami at (H-8) in Port Jeuno in order to obtain the Rare/Ex item Comet Orb. Upon receiving the orb, make your way to the Waughroon Shrine zone located in the Palborough Mines dungeon.

Be advised that only three players can enter the battlefield, that their levels will be capped at level 50, and that there is a 3 minute time limit that starts the moment the orb trader enters the battlefield.

Upon entering the battlefield, you will find The Waughroon Kid, a Goobbue type mob.

  • Besides the normal Goobbue tp moves, The Waughroon Kid's melee attacks have the possibility of inflicting Gravity effects, as well as possessing the Counterstance ability.

In order to spawn the armoury crate, The Waughroon Kid must be defeated within the allotted time.

Strategies

Because of the short time frame that is present in order to defeat The Waughroon Kid, damage is top priority.

Paladin, Melee x2 Setup

This strategy involves a Paladin and two heavy DD'ers. Once the Paladin buffs himself, have him run in first and draw hate on The Waughroon Kid. Once the Paladin has hate, have the melee run in and begin attacking it from its back (as to avoid Counterstance) and then have the Paladin use Invincible. At this time, have the melee perform their respective two hours and push their damage, making certain to take advantage of the massive Defense drop that Counterstance produces on The Waughroon Kid.

Beastmasterx3 Setup

This strategy involves three Beastmasters (at least two of which should sub Ninja), Seedbed Soil jug pets for calling out Funguar Familiar pets, and Pet Food Zeta for Reward.

Once inside the battlefield, call out the Funguars and send them at The Waughroon Kid, and then move in behind it before beginning to melee. Use your weaponskills as often as possible (especially when it uses Counterstance), though make sure that the Funguars maintain hate, and use the Zeta pet food whenever it's needed.

Timer

We just did BLM BLM PLD.. it would have worked.. however we failed to realize that there'd be no ACTUAL *showing* timer. So don't let that be the death of you. When it says 3 minutes.. it MEANS 3 minutes as SOON as you enter the circle. :|

Beat the snot out of this last night with a spiffy rdm/rdm/rdm setup. Had to use chainspell, though. Even with chainspell nuking, it took 2m25s to beat. Full-on Int gear, blink/stoneskin, chainspell, Fire II. Convert/Cure IV, then finish off with Fire II and Aero II. Never broke my stoneskin, and broke the elvaan RDM's stoneskin once; hits hard enough to make us think Phalanx would be useless (we didn't bother casting it). Didn't get what I was going for, but it was a nice fight, with good drops. Not too hard at all. Gravity is a MUST. We spread out fast, and it spend a lot of time walking between us. One person starts off with Bind, the second casts Gravity after using Chainspell (in case it needs to be recast; it;s very important).

Okay kids its story time so listen up.
I have done this BCNM 3 times and lost once. The party set up was Mnk (me), Mnk, Pld. And yes everyone needs two hours for this fight or there wont be enough damage.
1st Fight
It was my first with this BCNM so I got a bit over anxious about the three minute time limit and went in to the NM before the rest of my team mates thinking hey how fast can any one guy take away 1200 hp anyhow? Yeah I went down in about 10 seconds. He hit on average for about 130dmg a shot and gains tp amazingly fast. He used the typical goobue big blow on me for bout 700 dmg and I was out. My teammates decided to go in for the kill anyway and almost won. Took him to about 15% before he anihilated them.
2nd Fight
We got together two hours later and decided to give it another shot. We all go in Pld uses T-taco, both I and the other Mnk use sole sushi cuz the goobue is just a defenseless sack of meat for the most part. We go in and the Pld with bout 600 defense has to use invincible after 2-3 hits. Then the fun starts. The other mnk and i both hit Hundred Fists and go at it. (Remeber this thing gains tp amazingly fast so while the Pld was invincible he used bout 5-6 Big Blow type weapon skillz). It was going really really well til something unexpected happened. Counterstance. I was still hundredfisting and quickly fell victim to a series of 3 counters. So thinking quickly I Raging fisted for 500 some damage. Yeah big mistake. I stole hate and was immediately pwned. But the good news is it was about on 1% and died really quickly. Our beat time was 1:37. Drops were **** but we still made 1.7 million. If I remeber they were ivory gauntlets, shock mask, platinum ingot, and 2 tree cuttings and some other stuff. Wheee!
3 Fight
After I get some exp to re-lvl again we go to take down the kid again. We used the exact same strategy as last time save two things. One, I used a raven headpiece so as not to steal hate. Two, when counterstance went up Raging Fists went off for 500-600 dmg. (Its defense is like 0 when it has counterstance on...regular hits went for 90) Easy win. Drops were Sly gaunts plus assorted crap. Bout 2.5 mill profit. This is my new favourite BCNM so enjoy!
Btw there is no way a ninja can tank this guy as he attacks too fast. Just go Pld its much safer.

How about a PLD MNK and BLM... BLM and MNK use 2hr at same time unleash hell and then PLD uses his 2hr to regain hate and prevent other 2 from dying.

just a thought.

I would think this Goobbue would hit too hard for a WAR to tank this, unless he was an WAR/NIN with AMAZING timing. I think once I level my MNK up a bit I'm going to try this with MNK + NIN + RDM. NIN tanks as best he can, MNK hundred fists, RDM chainspells when necessary. It doesn't look like it could be done without 2hr's, unfortunately. That 3 minute restriction is a real pain in the ***.
3 minutes? GAH!

My recommended PT for this:

Monk, warrior, red mage.

Everyone 2hr's upon entry and just unloads like crazy.

(You've only got three minutes to kill the damn thing; if it doesn't hit too hard, you can substitute a BLM for the RDM, and possibly throw in almost any job other than WHM.)

This looks like a promising BCNM, if anybody can get any information on it at all. I'm betting this is one badass Goobbue though, as his drops are worth bazillions, and it's a three-person BCNM...
