Mission Orders

Gather information on San d'Oria and Windurst.
The Bastokan consulates in those two countries will provide you with a detailed briefing.

Walkthrough

Speak to any Bastokan Gate Guard to accept this mission. The Gate Guard will spend you to speak with Naji at (J-8) in the Metalworks, near the President's Office. A cutscene will play and they will escort you to President Karst. You will then be able to ask him questions about various topics and once you are done he will ask you to head to San d'Oria or Windurst.

Visit San d'Oria First

If you choose to visit the Bastok Consulate in San d'Orian first, head to (K-10) of Northern San d'Oria. Enter the Bastok Consulate and speak to Helaku. He will send you to speak with Halver in the Chateau d'Oraguille, north of the Bastok Consulate.

Halver will then send you to Ghelsba Outpost. To get there, take the northwestern exit of West Ronfaure. Once there, your task is to defeat Warchief Vatgit. The Warchief is at the top of Ghelsba Outpost (H-7). After defeating the Warchief, return to Northern San d'Oria to speak with Helaku again.

Helaku will now send you to the Bastok Consulate at (E-5) in Port Windurst. Once you arrive, speak to Melek, who represents the Bastok Consulate. Melek will send you to Heaven's Tower in Windurst Walls. In Heaven's Tower, you will need to speak to Kupipi to receive the Dark Key Key Item. After obtaining the Dark Key, travel to West Sarutabaruta, where you will find the entrance to the Giddeus. Once inside Giddeus, head to Balga's Dais. Here, you will face two monsters (see the The Emissary Spoilers page for more information).

Note:A full party of level 25s is suggested if this is your first time.

After defeating the monsters, return to Port Windurst and speak to Melek again. He will give you a Kindred report Key Item to take back to Bastok. Return to the Metalworks and speak to Naji again, who will reward you with 3000 gil and Rank 3.

Visit Windurst First

If you choose to visit the Bastok Consulate in Windurst first, head to (E-5) of Port Windurst. Speak to Melek, who will send you to Heaven's Tower in Windurst Walls. Once inside Heaven's Tower, speak to Kupipi. Kupipi will give you a Sword offering Key Item to give to the Yagudo as a peace tribute. Take the Magical Sword back to the Bastok Consulate in Port Windurst and speak with Gold Skull, a Galka, located in the 2nd room to your right. He will exchange the Sword offering for a Dull blade.

The offering to the Yagudo must be taken to the Treasure Room, which is located in the tunnels of Giddeus at (F-7). The Treasure Room is guarded by Uu Zhoumo, a Yagudo. Speak to Uu Zhoumo and he will tell you that you weapon is not a good enough offering, and that he'd rather have the blade used by Eyy Mon the Ironbreaker. Eyy Mon is a Notorious Monster that spawns at (G-7), not far from where you are. Eyy Mon will drop an Aspir Knife 100% of the time. Trade the knife to Eyy Mon to complete this part of the mission, then return to the Bsatok Consulate in Port Windurst and speak to Melek, who will send you to the Bastok Consulate in San d'Oria.

The Bastok Consulate is located at (K-10) of Northern San d'Oria. Speak to Helaku who will send you to speak with Halver in the Chateau d'Oraguille, which is seated north of the Bastok Consulate. Halver will tell you to head to the Yughott Grotto, deep within Ghelsba Outpost. Once inside the grotto, you must head to the Horlais Peak, where you will enter a Burning Circle fight against two monsters (see the The Emissary Spoilers page for more information).

Note: A full party of level 25 players is recommended if this is your first time doing this mission.

After defeating the monsters, return to Northern San d'Oria and speak to Helaku again. He will give you a Kindred report Key Item to take back to Bastok. Return to the Metalworks and speak to Naji again, who will reward you with 3000 gil and Rank 3.

Party Reccomended for the dragon
# Nov 19 2003 at 4:45 PM Rating: Default
6 lvl 20 or better, You CAN find people to slay the dragon, if nothing else, ask those who've already beaten it, it's not too hard, look for people with a rank 3 or higher, and no they don't have to be on the same quest, they just have to have the dark key as a key item to get into the area, the dragon on the other hand is one hard SOB, but as long as he falls, everyone in your party who died gets credit for the kill

All this talk of the dragon in windurst.. but what is the level of the warchief Vatgit in san'd oria?
RE: warchief vatgit
# Nov 19 2003 at 11:22 PM Rating: Default
warchief vatgit is an easy kill for a party of 2. both fighters; levels 15 and 16.

Vatgit seems to re-spawn fairly quickly as well--20 - 35 min, real time?--so don't worry if you arrive just in time to see him disemboweled across the hillside by another party. He'll be back soon.
Starting From Windhurst
# Nov 19 2003 at 12:29 AM Rating: Decent
If you start in Windhurst here is how the first part of the mission goes.

Get the sword (key item) from Heaven's Tower located in Windhurst Walls. Bring the sword back and exchange it at the Bastok consulate for the dull sword (key item).

You must then bring the sword to the treaure room in Giddeus. At level 18, everything conned either easy or decent. Problem is there's ALOT of stuff running around and it all agros very easily. Probably best to get a party of level 16-20 characters to make sure you don't get swamped.

The treasure room is located in the second level of Giddeus at [F-6]. When you give the sword to the named guy standing at the door he refuses it and says he wants a better weapon. What he requires is an 'aspir knife', which is a no-drop item that falls off the named Yagudo Eyy Mon. Trade that with him and work your way back to Windhurst. Part One of the Mission is complete.
Solo-NAH
# Nov 18 2003 at 11:01 PM Rating: Default
you have to be at least lvl 20 to take this dragon, in a full party. No soloing possible, a party of lvl 25's is suggested if you don't wanna worry about death.
FOR the LAST TIME, you cannot solo this dragon, its a dragon, thats right, a dragon. Do you think you would be able to solo any dragon at lvl 18-25, I think not. Find a decent party, then kill the dragon, wait until your lvl 20+ to do so.

I went with a lot of people, all hoping to do the mission and we all formed parties, then when we tried to go in, it said "combat zone locked" with only 4 people in there. Then we proceeded to fight him with the group of 4 (one a lvl 12 :/) and we hurt it real bad but all died before the killing blow. Has anyone else gotten the "locked" thing before?

Lv10 Got this quest..

I'm in Bastok and its called "Embissy" or something around that.

Why is mine named Emmbissy and the one it says here Dragon of Giddius?
received quest at 10
# Nov 16 2003 at 5:42 AM Rating: Decent
well received this quest today. i'm a 10 monk and gonna train for a while it seems ;-)
Will wait level 20-24 to start the quest, will collect crystals while waiting and leveling. anyway conquest points are allways welcome :-)
Ridiculously HARD
# Nov 15 2003 at 10:13 PM Rating: Default
The dragon is just rediculously hard. I brought a full group all the way to the alter, then it turns out I was the only one the enter the battle grounds. You have to find 5 level 20's that happen to be on the same mission right when you're doing it. Almost impossible to find a full group and I have no idea how I'm going to go about completing this mission.

The finding 5 level 20's is fine, but requiring them to be on the same mission which means they are from the other side of the world.. No chance.

This is only halfway true.

Any Rank 3 player can assist you as well. That means that anyone who has previously completed their nation's Mission 6, including Windurstians, could aid you.

This is the first mission where Linkshellers get a fairly obvious advantage.
Levels for this quest...
# Nov 15 2003 at 9:12 PM Rating: Decent
Hmmm, I just got this quest at level 10.
Doesn't really sound doable for quite a while... and I apparently can't take any other quests in the meantime. Blech. Don't suppose there's any way to bail out of this for now and get it later?

Hey duoblaze, where exactly did you go in Giddeus? I did the same thing you did, and I have no idea where to go... I went all the way to the back, but there's nothing there.

Uh guys under lvl 20 spend ur time lvling instead of trying to do this quest...u WILL die. Also dont think about soloing. Level cap of 25 for the dragon I hear. So u would be on even ground with dragon (Dragon is lvl 25) so even if u reack lvl 25 soloing would be tough if u are on even ground. I went with a party of 5 lvl's 18 18 17 17 16....All died.

REPEAT: DO NOT GO SOLO AND LVL UP TO HIGH TEENS EARLY TWENTIES B4 U ATTEMPT
hmmm

what level should you fight the dragon in windurst? would you need a party to fight it? i am currently a level 15 monk

# Nov 11 2003 at 10:36 AM Rating: Decent
If you go to sandoria first the mission is accuratly described above. but i have met many players who ment to windurst first, and its far different, and more difficult. If you go to windurst first, at the end of the mission you have to fight the curse dragon(he's all the way to the top of the orc fort(ghelshba, west of sandoria) and way harder then the dragon you fight in windurst, if you go to sandria first.

Just a suggestion, but it would be much more useful to list somewhere in these quests alsowhat level is suggested to be able to complete the quests.
Tired of being given a quest at level x, going out and trying to face down some horrible beast only to get eaten alive and have to spend the extra time just getting back the xp I lost in getting killed.

And yes, I know, "you should be checking the monsters." Still, with the very general strength vs. player descriptions, and trying to take linking effects into account as well, it makes it a little difficult.
Min level
# Nov 10 2003 at 9:03 AM Rating: Decent
Not sure if the min level is accurate. In beta I was able to get this quest at 14 didn't complete it but was able to get it. Not sure if that was a beta thing or not. I also went to windrust first which make the mission different.

Selbina is in the dunes. Run along the ocean you will come across entrance. It is past the first beach area.

reccomendations for dragon slaying, a party of no less than 5 lvl 20's at least 1whm preferably 1 whm and 1 rdm dragon is TOUGH....

also if you go to windurst first your quest is quite different than listed here

To get to sandoria you need to go out the south gate of bastok port to s gusta, west and go up to the zone you got the dem crystal at, north west from there, and one or 2 more zones north to get to sandoria. To get to windurst go to selbina(northwest of bastok) take a boat to mharua and run to 2 zones towards windurst.
