Mission Orders

Gather information on San d'Oria and Windurst.
The Bastokan consulates in those two countries will provide you with a detailed briefing.

Walkthrough

Speak to any Bastokan Gate Guard to accept this mission. The Gate Guard will spend you to speak with Naji at (J-8) in the Metalworks, near the President's Office. A cutscene will play and they will escort you to President Karst. You will then be able to ask him questions about various topics and once you are done he will ask you to head to San d'Oria or Windurst.

Visit San d'Oria First

If you choose to visit the Bastok Consulate in San d'Orian first, head to (K-10) of Northern San d'Oria. Enter the Bastok Consulate and speak to Helaku. He will send you to speak with Halver in the Chateau d'Oraguille, north of the Bastok Consulate.

Halver will then send you to Ghelsba Outpost. To get there, take the northwestern exit of West Ronfaure. Once there, your task is to defeat Warchief Vatgit. The Warchief is at the top of Ghelsba Outpost (H-7). After defeating the Warchief, return to Northern San d'Oria to speak with Helaku again.

Helaku will now send you to the Bastok Consulate at (E-5) in Port Windurst. Once you arrive, speak to Melek, who represents the Bastok Consulate. Melek will send you to Heaven's Tower in Windurst Walls. In Heaven's Tower, you will need to speak to Kupipi to receive the Dark Key Key Item. After obtaining the Dark Key, travel to West Sarutabaruta, where you will find the entrance to the Giddeus. Once inside Giddeus, head to Balga's Dais. Here, you will face two monsters (see the The Emissary Spoilers page for more information).

Note:A full party of level 25s is suggested if this is your first time.

After defeating the monsters, return to Port Windurst and speak to Melek again. He will give you a Kindred report Key Item to take back to Bastok. Return to the Metalworks and speak to Naji again, who will reward you with 3000 gil and Rank 3.

Visit Windurst First

If you choose to visit the Bastok Consulate in Windurst first, head to (E-5) of Port Windurst. Speak to Melek, who will send you to Heaven's Tower in Windurst Walls. Once inside Heaven's Tower, speak to Kupipi. Kupipi will give you a Sword offering Key Item to give to the Yagudo as a peace tribute. Take the Magical Sword back to the Bastok Consulate in Port Windurst and speak with Gold Skull, a Galka, located in the 2nd room to your right. He will exchange the Sword offering for a Dull blade.

The offering to the Yagudo must be taken to the Treasure Room, which is located in the tunnels of Giddeus at (F-7). The Treasure Room is guarded by Uu Zhoumo, a Yagudo. Speak to Uu Zhoumo and he will tell you that you weapon is not a good enough offering, and that he'd rather have the blade used by Eyy Mon the Ironbreaker. Eyy Mon is a Notorious Monster that spawns at (G-7), not far from where you are. Eyy Mon will drop an Aspir Knife 100% of the time. Trade the knife to Eyy Mon to complete this part of the mission, then return to the Bsatok Consulate in Port Windurst and speak to Melek, who will send you to the Bastok Consulate in San d'Oria.

The Bastok Consulate is located at (K-10) of Northern San d'Oria. Speak to Helaku who will send you to speak with Halver in the Chateau d'Oraguille, which is seated north of the Bastok Consulate. Halver will tell you to head to the Yughott Grotto, deep within Ghelsba Outpost. Once inside the grotto, you must head to the Horlais Peak, where you will enter a Burning Circle fight against two monsters (see the The Emissary Spoilers page for more information).

Note: A full party of level 25 players is recommended if this is your first time doing this mission.

After defeating the monsters, return to Northern San d'Oria and speak to Helaku again. He will give you a Kindred report Key Item to take back to Bastok. Return to the Metalworks and speak to Naji again, who will reward you with 3000 gil and Rank 3.

Titles Awarded

  • Warcheif Wrecker - awarded after killing Warcheif Vatghit.
  • Black Dragon Slayer - awarded after killing the Windurstian monster.
  • Dread Dragon Slayer - awarded after killing the San d'Orian monster.
  • Certified Adventurer - awarded after finishing this mission completely and returning to Bastok for Rank 3.

Does the party have to be from your same city
# Apr 13 2005 at 9:37 AM Rating: Decent
Can anyone advise whether all members of your party must be from the same home city?

Or can your party consist of members, also in need of killing the dragon to complete their mission, from different home cities?

Thank you for your time.

No, everyone does not have to be from the same home city. Everyone has to be at least Rank 3 OR be on the mission and ready to kill the same dragon. Those Rank 2 and not ready to kill the same dragon as you will be stuck outside the BC. Those ready to fight the dragon get a cutscene upon entering the BC, those Rank 3 or better go straight to the BC.
ARGH!

I'm not quite sure what in God's name is wrong with the NPCs around Bastok, but for some reason this mission isn't available when I talk to the NPCs in front of the President's office. I know that for one mission I have to trade a lot of water x-tals to the IM, but do I have to do this again?
Duo-kinda

When I did this, we had 3 people. BRD/PLD/WHM

Things went downhill once we got it the fight, lol. THe WHM d/c'ed right after we started, so the PLD and killed the Eye, then I kept the dragon slept as we rested up. Once we were rested again we started on the dragon and luckily the WHM popped back in when it was at about 40% and helped us with the last.

So I figure BRD + melee CAN duo this, as long as the BRD and other can kill the eye before the dragon wakes.
Weakness..?

Yesterday, me and a party of 3 (25rng/12nin<--me , 25blm/12whm , 25rdm/12whm, 25sam/war) did the sandy version. We finished in 3 minuets and 5 seconds, 20 seconds short of the Fairy record. But, after I shot off my eagle eye shot at it, it blasted me with some curse that not only causes weakness, but decreased movment speed.....its been on me for 5 hours now and im loosing valuable training time T-T. Anyone know anything about it?

No, you'll need a BLM to sleep the Black Dragon while you fight the Searcher. It's the monster that summons the Black Dragon to begin with.

I did it today in a full PT with LS mates. MNK(me), WHM, BLM, DRG, SAM and WAR. We did it in just a bit over 3 minutes.

It was a piece of cake but I don't see you being able to beat it with a 2 man party.

RE: ??
# Jan 23 2005 at 7:44 AM Rating: Decent
to get to sandy from bastok, go through the gustaberg, the highlands, the dunes, the plateau, and then ronfaure. to get to windy, you gotta go to selbina from the dunes, take the ship, go through buburimu, the canyon, and then sarutabaruta.
Hmmm

Your level cap is at 25. Bring your lvl 25 and under stuff with you.

No, you cannot solo the dragons.

Best to have a full party.
1 to put the dragon to sleep,
1 to heal the party, and possibly cast enfeeble stuff on dragon
the rest of the party should be damage dealers.

after getting a party, this was easy. did the windy part months ago, then tried to solo the dragon as a war with half my armor missing(didnt research anything about it). today, me as a 25bst/12whm, another 25bst/12whm and a 25blm/12rdm whooped the dragons but in just over 4 minutes. not bad for 3 PEOPLE. finally getting rank 3 is great. cant wait to do the next missions.

I killed the Sandy dragon once in the Windy 2-3 mission. My question is, if I start with the windy part then doing the sandy part, do I still have to kill the sandy dragon? Or do I get a clearance for that?
Easy

The dragon fight was actually pretty easy once you got a party; it's finding a party that may take a while.

What was the issue?
mnk/nin or mnk/war?
# Nov 18 2004 at 1:54 PM Rating: Decent
Hi this is my first post ever so please be gentle.

I am getting ready to complete this mission and I was wondering if i should go to the burning circle as a mnk/nin or a mnk/war? I figured I would be a mnk/nin just so I can have the advantage of utsusemi: ichi. At a level 25 cap, I figured subbing war for this mission wouldn't benefit me as much. Having shadows as a nin sub would allow me to take a few hits while I hundred fist it =)
RE: mnk/nin or mnk/war?
# Nov 18 2004 at 11:34 PM Rating: Decent
Well, its good to have a voker, but this fight will be short enough that not having one will probably be np. Not taking hits it good, but I think in this case doing more damage over a short time will work better for you. I guess I would go with the War sub. If your main were anything but mnk, I would say go for nin for sure with dual wield, but thats n/a with a mnk.
This all assuming that you are not going alone, which I do not recommend.

# Nov 06 2004 at 3:16 PM Rating: Decent
Okay I tried getting a group together at Sandy for the dragon but no one responding. From looking at this people say to go to the Grotto and you can get help there yet there's practically no one there.

Can anyone help me fight the dragon. I'm 20 WAR/10 MNK. I'm right by the entrance to Horlais Peak (where the burning circle is). I'm on the Ifrit Server. If anyone can help out it would be appreciated. I'll be on about 7 pm EST tonight. If you can help meet me there or send tell.

war/mnk war/mnk whm/blm... been there done that now my 2 buddies have a t-shirt with a dragon and his friend on it.

both wars used 2hr and i just cured.. it was over in 3min 47sec not the record but we all lived to laugh about it.
Easy...lol
# Oct 28 2004 at 2:47 PM Rating: Decent
This battle was easy as pie. First we all buffed up before. The party was War/Mnk Rdm/Blm (me) Rdm/Mnk Smn/Whm and a Whm/Blm. First the we entered and the Smn used his 2hr and killed spotter (I think he used Ramuh). Then the war tanked while me and the other rdm chainspelled nuked him. and then we all hit him. we beat the record. The record was 4minutes and 7 second and we did it in 4 minuetes. I seriously recommend a Smn for this. Hope this helps.
