Mission Orders

Gather information on San d'Oria and Windurst.
The Bastokan consulates in those two countries will provide you with a detailed briefing.

Walkthrough

Speak to any Bastokan Gate Guard to accept this mission. The Gate Guard will spend you to speak with Naji at (J-8) in the Metalworks, near the President's Office. A cutscene will play and they will escort you to President Karst. You will then be able to ask him questions about various topics and once you are done he will ask you to head to San d'Oria or Windurst.

Visit San d'Oria First

If you choose to visit the Bastok Consulate in San d'Orian first, head to (K-10) of Northern San d'Oria. Enter the Bastok Consulate and speak to Helaku. He will send you to speak with Halver in the Chateau d'Oraguille, north of the Bastok Consulate.

Halver will then send you to Ghelsba Outpost. To get there, take the northwestern exit of West Ronfaure. Once there, your task is to defeat Warchief Vatgit. The Warchief is at the top of Ghelsba Outpost (H-7). After defeating the Warchief, return to Northern San d'Oria to speak with Helaku again.

Helaku will now send you to the Bastok Consulate at (E-5) in Port Windurst. Once you arrive, speak to Melek, who represents the Bastok Consulate. Melek will send you to Heaven's Tower in Windurst Walls. In Heaven's Tower, you will need to speak to Kupipi to receive the Dark Key Key Item. After obtaining the Dark Key, travel to West Sarutabaruta, where you will find the entrance to the Giddeus. Once inside Giddeus, head to Balga's Dais. Here, you will face two monsters (see the The Emissary Spoilers page for more information).

Note:A full party of level 25s is suggested if this is your first time.

After defeating the monsters, return to Port Windurst and speak to Melek again. He will give you a Kindred report Key Item to take back to Bastok. Return to the Metalworks and speak to Naji again, who will reward you with 3000 gil and Rank 3.

Visit Windurst First

If you choose to visit the Bastok Consulate in Windurst first, head to (E-5) of Port Windurst. Speak to Melek, who will send you to Heaven's Tower in Windurst Walls. Once inside Heaven's Tower, speak to Kupipi. Kupipi will give you a Sword offering Key Item to give to the Yagudo as a peace tribute. Take the Magical Sword back to the Bastok Consulate in Port Windurst and speak with Gold Skull, a Galka, located in the 2nd room to your right. He will exchange the Sword offering for a Dull blade.

The offering to the Yagudo must be taken to the Treasure Room, which is located in the tunnels of Giddeus at (F-7). The Treasure Room is guarded by Uu Zhoumo, a Yagudo. Speak to Uu Zhoumo and he will tell you that you weapon is not a good enough offering, and that he'd rather have the blade used by Eyy Mon the Ironbreaker. Eyy Mon is a Notorious Monster that spawns at (G-7), not far from where you are. Eyy Mon will drop an Aspir Knife 100% of the time. Trade the knife to Eyy Mon to complete this part of the mission, then return to the Bsatok Consulate in Port Windurst and speak to Melek, who will send you to the Bastok Consulate in San d'Oria.

The Bastok Consulate is located at (K-10) of Northern San d'Oria. Speak to Helaku who will send you to speak with Halver in the Chateau d'Oraguille, which is seated north of the Bastok Consulate. Halver will tell you to head to the Yughott Grotto, deep within Ghelsba Outpost. Once inside the grotto, you must head to the Horlais Peak, where you will enter a Burning Circle fight against two monsters (see the The Emissary Spoilers page for more information).

Note: A full party of level 25 players is recommended if this is your first time doing this mission.

After defeating the monsters, return to Northern San d'Oria and speak to Helaku again. He will give you a Kindred report Key Item to take back to Bastok. Return to the Metalworks and speak to Naji again, who will reward you with 3000 gil and Rank 3.

Titles Awarded

  • Warcheif Wrecker - awarded after killing Warcheif Vatghit.
  • Black Dragon Slayer - awarded after killing the Windurstian monster.
  • Dread Dragon Slayer - awarded after killing the San d'Orian monster.

Killed Windy Dragon... What next?
# Sep 26 2005 at 1:37 PM Rating: Decent
Okay, this mission seemed easy enough. Had a pt of 6, of which 5 entered the BC. Got the cutscene once I entered the BC, then ran to where the pt were already engaged with the dragon. Ran over to help, as it was already down to 1/2. I didn't see the seeker, so I presumed that it was already dead. After we killed the dragon, and left the BC, I noticed that I was given a key item, but then went back to the Counsilate of Bastok in Windy... nothing different happened. Talked to everyone, but nothing changed. Went to Bastok, and they just told me that I cannot take two missions on at the same time. What do I need to do now? Do I have to redo the killing of the dragon and Seeker?

What the level 25 Cap is that, when you start the battle, your characters’ level will be caped to level 25. Any spells and armor above the level 25, will be unavailable for the fight. After the fight, your characters’ level will then become uncapped, all spells and armor will become available again.

couldn't believe it!!! me and 4 other ls members went to fight the dragon in windy cause my buddy hadn't done it yet. got there and destroyed the record. less than 3 minutes!!!! OMG!!! so we had another ls member ask if we could go to sandy to help him kill his dragon. low and behold....less than 3 minutes again. another record. 2 in 1 night. anyone who hasn't done this mission do not be intimidated. take 2-3 melees, preferably a war ,sam, and a mnk. take a rdm or whm to heal you. melees should 2-hour right off the bat on the eye (which will take you about 30 seconds to kill) and then the dragon is cake. i did this on lakshmi server and no one even came close to death. my ls is stormoflight. and we are starting to make a good name for ourselves.

How many?
# Jul 08 2005 at 2:25 AM Rating: Decent
After completing "Wading Beast" Mission I was again short on rank points. So, yet again I gave up some crystals 1 by 1 to determine exactly how many was needed to open up this mission.

It took me 8 water crystals to get it.

Hope that helps.

You can't solo the Dragon. It is a level 25 cap BCNM. However, it isn't that tough. Get together a party of people near level 25 and go kill it. I suggest you bring a WAR to hold aggro, a BLM to sleep the Dragon while you kill the Seeker, a WHM to cure obviously (if they're level 29+ make sure they have Cursna for afterwards, the curse lasts for a LONG time.) Other than that, get as many MNKs as possible. Our party, which was seriously underlevelled (one guy was 18, two others were low twenties) killed the Dragon really quickly because MNK (and maybe WAR, not sure) 2h'ed right away.

Actually, it is possible to solo the dragon.

Yesterday, 7/24/05, I Leeroy'd the Horlois Peak battle with my MNK25. The rest of the team (WHM/BLM/not sure what the 4th was) were still watching the cutscene/event while I had just selected "Skip event" and charged.

As soon as I ran in, I ate a Wild Steak, Dodge/Focus/2hr and kept Boosting when needed. I killed the Seeker rather quickly and then worked on the Dragon (luckily, he had yet to curse me). I got the dragon to within 1/4 of his life before the rest of the team showed up. I received a heal that was the equivalent of an X-Potion and that is when the dragon cursed me. However, I finished it off, quickly, with a bit under 100 hit points. We scored the record time on Kujata for killing that dragon, all because I jumped the gun.

So - I imagine with better planning and some X-potions, anyone could feasibly solo this (at least with a MNK - I also had some lvl 25 Windurstian gear). I also think I had luck play a bit on my side too, but I don't think it was all of it.

Yep, MNK25 can solo this with the right equipment. So can RNG25/NIN with sleep bolts and SMN25 with Astral Flow. Maybe other jobs too if you bring enough potions and are skillful enough.

I came extremely close to soloing it as a 25 MNK using an icarus wing, persikos au lait, meat, some potions and using my 2 hour. If I'd had another couple potions I'm sure I could have done it. I had it down to a bare sliver of life when I died. This can definitely be done. Just need to fine tune it a bit. :)

You've probably figured this out by now, but just in case anyone else has this problem, once you kill Vatgit, you don't need to return to Halver. He doesn't care. Once he sends you on your way to kill Vatgit, as far as he's concerned he's done with you. Just return to your consulate in Sandy after killing Vatgit, tell them what happened, and then move on to Windy.

I recently went to complete this mission with my brother in the following group:

Newbie: 25 Bst/whm (me)
Angeliah: 25 Bst/whm

Lets just say in this group we cut it extremely close. We went in and proceeded to summon crab familiars/buff up. After resting nearly 4 minutes for the reuse on the broth we ran in and attacked the Seeker, taking him out relatively quickly as the dragon beat on me.

After the seeker was done we sent our pets at the dragon and tried to keep them alive via reward as we attempted to stay back. Here I learned about the "draw in" ability... which caused me to eat at least one poison breath.

The first set of pets eventually died as the dragon sat at ~50-55% remaining health. We summoned another crab familiar and sent them in once more. This set got the dragon down to around 20% life.

By this time we were nearly out of magic points and had to run in and melee the punk down. Chaos blade BAD! The ability cut Angeliahs hp down to a maximum of 60... and without any hate abilities I was unable to pull the dragon off of her.

Somehow, however, we managed to beat the dragon, ending with 12 hp and 90 hp respectively. The clock time being at about 10 minutes.

Yay for duoing the rank 3 fight with 2 fish broths and 1 pet food zeta a piece.

(note: this fight was a "barely" one... 1-2 high potions could have made it much easier)
Treaure room?
# Jun 03 2005 at 3:56 AM Rating: Decent
I've been searching all over Giddeus, and I can't seem to find the treasure room. Can anyone tell me it's <pos>?

If it's in the center of Giddeus, or at the very bottom, then ti's guarded by cliffs and I have no idea how to get by them.

Someone please help, thank you.

Problem...
# May 19 2005 at 6:36 PM Rating: Decent
Hi there.

Hope any of you can help me out here :)
I was helping a friend to get his (bastokian) rank 3 so we started going to Windy. My friend activated the mission and we headed Giddeous in order to get the aspir knife and trade it with the NPC. Everything OK here....but I decided to party with my low lvl friend so I could kill Evy and let my friend lot for the knife.
For some stupid reason I won't detail I ended with the knife -_-;; Evy is not respawning anymore and we have no idea of what to do to reset that part of the mission....

Any idea? Suggestion?
Everything is welcomed -_-
Thank you.
