Summary

Ratihb wants you to check on his son Wasuhd, who has gone in search of his older brother.

Walkthrough

The Corsair quest begins in Aht Urhgan Whitegate. In the Shararat Teahouse, speak with Ratihb (J-12) and then after his series of cutscenes, go and speak with city Guard named Mafwahb (L-9).

Take the boat to Nashmau located at Port Ephramad on the north side of Aht Urhgan Whitegate.

This is where it gets nasty if you don't take any precautions. For one, travel through the Caederva Mire during morning and afternoon because during daylight the Chigoes (basically tiny little insects) are the only things that seem to aggro. These mobs are unmarked until they aggro. At night, the undead come out but also the Lamia (snakepeople), which have truesight. In Nashmau, it may be wise to set your homepoint there as people seem to have a tendancy to die frequently on the way to the Reef.

To get to the Arrapago Reef, you can exit Nashmau through the northgate and wind your way up to the cave at I-6.

    • Edit:

You need a Lamia Fang Key to get to the ??? in Arrapago Reef.

Before zoning into Arrapago Reef get the Lamia Fang Key by carefully getting on the ledge at I-7 in Caederva Mire; you can walk right up above it and simply fall onto it. There are some Fetid Flesh-type creatures which need to be careful when walking around. Also, walking through the muck may result in Gravity-type effect on your character.

If you travel at night, there will be one Lamia mob and two skeletons by the Arrapago Reef zone. Inside the Reef, it is unadvisable to Escape, as Escape will plop you right into aggro right inside these mobs.

Inside the reef, just follow the right wall until you come out into the open where you will find your first wrecked vessel. On the first boat, there will be a ??? which is where you can obtain your key item puppet for the PUP job quest. Through the boat (which will have undead and Lamia aboard), you again follow the right wall and up the ramp to the first gate. This is where you use the Lamia Fang Key. Past the first gate, take first left and follow until you come to the next gate.

There, on another boat, you will find the ??? for COR. This series of cutscenes are rather long. The NPC in the cutscene there will ask you to go to Talcaa Cove.

Simply return to Nashmau, exit through the west gate into the Caedarva Mire again. This time, work your way up to (E-9) to get to Talcca Cove. You will have to weave through the ruins. Imps frequent the area so be very careful as they have Truesight.

Inside Talacca Cove, simple proceed along the left wall. On a pile of rocks, you will soon find the ???. There, you will get the key item "Forgotten Hexgun". There is nothing inside the Cove that will attacks so no worries about Sneak or Invisible.

Proceed west again, find the Rock Slab and get the final cutscene. It is wise to not have bought the Corsair Die from a vendor before this because you will have to throw it away and redo the cutscene again.

BREAKING NEWS: just came from chigoe page. apparently these do not aggro if you have sneak, invis, AND deodorize up. I'm about to try this right now. i'll edit this post with my findings.

Yes, this does in fact work.
hope all of you out there can get some use out of this!

I did this on 37 red mage that I haven't leveled in forever. And I kept up sneak and invisible the whole time and got no aggro--so I concur, Lamias are not truesite. I didn't get aggro from chigoes either. The Leeches, btw, are not aggressive, the imps easy to avoid

It's not that hard of a quest if you just keep guessing pos and stuff. This was a very helpful guide.

You don't need Deodorize to avoid Chigoe aggro. Just sneak and invis. Lose one and you'll get aggro if they're nearby.

Used all three. No aggro.
Used just sneak and invis. No aggro.
Only sneak = aggro
Only invis = aggro

My finding is that Sneak and Invis work just fine. When I lost Sneak, I got aggro from a Chigoe. Not sure about the necessity of Invisible, but it's nice to have that up around the local mobs anyway.

1. Tracker Lamia are truesight..

i was running through as 30WHM/15RDM Sneak and Invis were both active. i ran by 2 lamia one Imperal palace guard or something and the other a tracker.. all of a sudden that tracker shot me. needless to say i was nearly there so i ran and started the cutscene... seeing how they attacked me the whole cutscene i actually leveld up evasion when i died after the 3 min or so..

2. The Lamia key from the ???

you can only get this key once. cause the Lamia fang keys are exactly that. A fang. they are the teeth of the Lamia.. so when you Break it you have to get a new fang. sence you found one laying on the ground. doesnt mean you can find it every single day. so you have to kill them for a new one

Easy Solo
# Jun 27 2006 at 9:14 PM Rating: Decent
I gained this quest with my 30 thf and when it came to the Mire and reef I switched to a lvl 1 mnk and ran through the area with invis and sneak. Its easy as log as you plan out your route and go slow... Remember its ok to take chances when lvl 1 (no exp loss) Just make sure you have a map from either a web site or the actual map from the quest. Easy to solo if patient
Minimum level

OK, currently 35 posts on this page and EIGHT of them tell me about what has true sight and what doesn't! The worst part is they all concur! I'm not even counting nibba's entry (cuz it had other useful information). I'm also not counting Kingofthedesert's entry because he talked about a new mob.

Please read all of the entries before you add one. I know everyone is trying to help, but please... the repetition is aggrivating -.-
pain in the ***
# Jun 21 2006 at 2:20 PM Rating: Decent
i would have to say that this quest is a pain in the ***. the areas you have to walk through have so much aggressive monsters that it makes it very difficult. i tried to recast snk/invis and chigoes sprang out of nowhere and started attackin me. did the same to two others that ran by.

I'd like to clarify one thing.
Quote:

these two paragraphs should be switched around or the second one should start like, "But before you zone to Arrapago Reef, you need to go to I-7 of Caedarva Mire and locate the ??? to get the Lamia Fang key" other wise it makes it seem like the key is inside Arrapago Reef which it is not.

Lamia are SIGHT only i ran by with invis and it was fine.
Lamina Key
# May 26 2006 at 10:21 PM Rating: Decent
I want to just point out that you have to get the Lamian Key in the Cardarva Mire map at I-7 before you enter the cave to the reef and that there are 2 ???'s near each other. 1 is a bit north of the Lamian Key ??? and is just on the ground. Make sure that if you are at this ??? to go south of it till you see a mucky pond thing. This took me a couple minutes to figure out.
Is there a glitch with the ???
# May 17 2006 at 5:00 PM Rating: Decent
I am sitting at the ??? inside the reef after the Lamia key and im sitting by the ??? at the vessel and says "nothing out of the ordinary" I have talked to all the right NPC involved

WHAt the heck do i do now if i go back i lost my lamia key

# May 02 2006 at 8:25 PM Rating: Decent
easy quest even though it made me invis and sneak up everywhere you go i soloed it at lvl 57 Best way to spot a chigoe is when you see them hopping around usally around the cave. Imps Have true sight which was really hard. If you dont have maps of this places check at [link=www.ffxi-atlas.com][/link]
Lamia at the ???
# May 01 2006 at 2:46 PM Rating: Decent
As I touched the ??? at the ship and the CS was over the Lamia, which was far away before and moved, aggroed me, I had no chance to invis up. It didn't hti hard so I just warped away lol. If you go solo, be carefull at that part ^^
FYI
# May 01 2006 at 2:03 AM Rating: Decent
Lamia's are not true sight, im pretty sure only the ones with "lurker" in there names are true sight. Ive stood infron of them many atime with invisi on, but the do argo to sight. Imps on the other hand are true sight/hearing. I was lucky enof to walk into a pack of imps that K.O.ed me in 3 hits
