Summary

If you want to learn how to become a puppetmaster, you must bring an automaton to Iruki-Waraki.

Walkthrough

Talk to Shamarhaan at the fountain in Bastok Markets to begin this quest. He will direct you to someone in Aht Urhgan.

Travel to Aht Urhgan Whitegate and talk to the Tarutaru named Iruki-Waraki at (K-9) and then go to the Automaton Shop at (I-7) and talk to the Galka named Ghatsad. Once you have talked to him, go to the northern port and ride the boat to Nashmau.

Once you are in Nashmau, take the Northern exit into Caedarva Mire. In Caedarva Mire, go to (I-6) and zone into Arrapago Reef, being very careful of the Chigoe and Imps (truesight). From there, go to (H-10) and select the ???. Return to the Automaton Shop in Aht Urgan Whitegate and talk to Ghatsad again. Wait one game day and talk to him again. Talk to Iruki-Waraki again and choose your name for the automaton.

Not sure what you did, but if you gave it to him, theoretically, at 23:59 (11:59pm), then all you would have to wait is a game minute in order to complete the quest.

You just need to wait till "the next day". So if you gave it to him before the turn of the day, you're better off.

In order to actually start the quest you need to talk to Shamarhaan in Bastok Markets by the fountain. If you don't do this beforehand Iruki-Waraki will just tell you to leave him alone.
