Description

Eperdur needs your help to heal the land. There is a bad presence in the air flowing out of Gusgen Mines and on to the Crag of Dem. Eperdur wants you to seal of the source by replacing the Banishing Seal.

Walkthrough

After speaking to Eperdur, head to the Gusgen Mines and go north in the middle passageway, continue down the stairs, and use the middle lever to open the middle door. Proceed through. Go straight and down some stairs again, where you will come to a similar room. This time, take the left (west) door/lever combo. In the next passageway, just keep taking lefts until you come to a hole in the ground. You will now be in a large area (with bombs that agro to sight and magic), go to a shed (bottom left corner of G-8). There will be a ??? on the back wall of the shed. (There are other ??? points in this room, make sure you have the right one.) Examine it. It will give you a message that you have replaced the seal. Return to Eperdur for your reward.

Note: Almost all of the monsters in Gusgen Mines aggro to sound, except Bombs that come later on in the final room which aggro to Magic and Sight.

Good instructions! It's a long walk but you get there hugging the left wall all the way. About five minutes to get in, then I went to the door and had a friend come to Gusgen to let me out. (Asking people in the Mines to do it for me didn't work.) Once I came out I sneaked her and we hit the stairs and ran out. Thanks!
Don't talk to Virnage

Correct! I just complete this quest. And I did not talk to Virnage at all. Not once during this quest did I talk to Virnage.

I second that. Do NOT bother travelling to Bastok unless you just want to get both quests started.

I've just done this quest, the description and a few of the comments are a bit misleading, so here's exactly how I did it:

1. Speak to Eperdur to receive the quest.
2. Find the ??? behind the shack in Gusgen mines, examine it to get a message something like this: "You place the Seal of Banishing on the seal." - I did this with my weapon equipped :P
3. Talk to Eperdur again, view a cutscene and receive your scroll.

I did go and talk to Virnage in Bastok mines between steps 2 and 3, but he didn't say anything remotely related to this quest so I assume he has nothing to do with it.

Built up my fame in San D entirely on cabbage runs (20 stacks at a time) while Bastok had Zulkheim under control (regional teleport + 21 gil per cabbage + warp (optional) = mucho fame).

The NPC: Namonutice (South San d'Oria K-6 upper right) will tell you your fame.
When he sais: "You have become well known in these parts! I hear much of your accomplishments. Keep up the good work, and greatness lies in your future.", u can get this quest, you can also get the quest for the map of northern regions at this fame level.

Do not underestimate the bombs in the area where the ???'s are. They con'd as "easy prey" to my L45 Monk, the bombs and flies there being the ONLY monsters in Gusgen that give any EXP at all. So I hit the ??? and I get aggro'd by a bomb. No problem, I start whaling on it. Self-Destruct! 945 damage and I very much died. Completed the quest, but de-levelled and hurt my pride as a result.

Note: I did not need to unequip my weapon to do this quest.

How I Did It

Thank you for everyone's contributions to this particular walkthrough. I had a hell of a time doing it without a map but here's how I did it and maybe it'll help some of the people without maps.

When you enter go straight all the way until you reach the wooden stairs leading down to the 3 lever/doors. Cast sneak here so nothing will agro you unless you're level 44+. From there choose the middle door and go straight and head left when you reach a fork in the road. Then another left at the fork and then head straight. You have enough fame, when namonutice, says:

NAME! You have become well known in these parts!
I hear much of your accomplisments. Keep up the good work, and freatness lies in your future.

you do NOT have to talk to vernage... you do not even need to go to bastok. if eperdur is not giving you quest, its because you need more fame.... bat wings are the easiest way.

in gusgen, the undead and funguars aggro by sound (use sneak) and the bombs (spunky, feu follet) aggro by sight (use invis)

the room you are looking for is the deepest room as the quest suggests, so if you dont have map, just try to keep going down. theres many ways to get there, some of which inculding falling into holes... the ??? you are looking for is behind a shed, not the hole in the ground. the iron-framed doors have an annoying tendency to close on you, so you may be stuck down there for a while if you do not have warp/warp scroll or whatever else you feel like doing to get out. Also note you must take off invis to examine the ??? but it shouldn't be a problem since the feu follets in that room generally stay in the middle, while the shed is on the perimeter.
Unequiping weapon?
# Jan 07 2004 at 3:59 AM Rating: Default
It says "Unequip your weapon and look for the ???."

Is this true? Does this hold true for the other teleport scroll quests, cause I'm having a hell of a time finding the ??? for the Mea one.

Thanks

It seems as though he has nothing to do with this quest, however he does send you to do the Teleport:Dem quest in Garliage Citadel. It's a separate quest with Virnage.

There are 2 ???s
# Dec 15 2003 at 4:11 AM Rating: Decent
In the final room there are in fact 2 ??? markings. One simply gives the "small hole" message. This is the wrong one. The correct ??? target is on the SAME wall, but to the south, near the opening to the room. The target is the shack, as the quest description states, and you have to be BEHIND the shack to get it to target with tab. Or you can simple walk behind it and use mouse to target.
???
# Dec 14 2003 at 4:11 PM Rating: Default

I was in this room and I found another ??? Towards the North-West part of the room. It said "You see a small hole here" and I died from an aggro'ed bomb. I couldn't cast Inviz because of the Elemental, so Iw as screwed ;P I'm going to try it again-- but does anyone know what that second ??? is for?
RE: ???
# Dec 14 2003 at 4:14 PM Rating: Default
Oh,a nd I also found another way to get here. I went North another room instead of going down the spiral staircase and there were three Lakes, each crowded with greater Pugils. If you go to the Western Lake, there is a branch off to the west, with a hole. It'll drop you right NEXT to the hut (Aparently, though I am blind and didn't see it) I'm not sure which way is easier, but this one had hardly any enemies.
Right Directions

This quest does start with Eperdur in North San d'Oria. I did NOT have to talk to Vernage.

At the time that I did this quest I was 36whm/17blm with 34 San d'Orian quests completed.

There are three map sections you will venture into.

The first section: I headed right for H-6. Warning: when I was in the lower area I got aggro from the jellies and banshees. I opened up the left most door in the H-6 area using the lever thats at the end of the tracks in front of the door. Go through the door.

The second section: Once you go through the door, and the map changes, head to F-5 and take the passage that leads off from the north west corner of that room. As you head down the pathway, the map will change again.

The third section: WARNING: everything was decent challenge or higher in this area. There are only two rooms in this map section. Go all the way into the second of the two. Stay to your left as you enter the room. You should see the hut right away. Find the ??? and press the new seal on(the seal is a key item). Gratz on your new spell.

Wrong directions
# Dec 09 2003 at 6:29 PM Rating: Default
The directions are not right, first of all the guy at bastok is pointless, u dont need to go there.

Second of all im not sure when you reach a spiral ramp, i did not see one after i entered the door, i actually ended up at some other quest place and some *** person lead me to the right area, unfortunately my sneak was wearing out and when i casted it, it did not stick (i was trying while it was about to wear out and I did not time myself right) well bunch of funguses ganged up on me and killed me.

Im not sure if i ended up at the right place but she took me to some shack, i did not find a ??? marker there though and this was my second shack i had seen, so im not sure still...would be nice if the directions were more clear.

Talked to the guy at the catherdral but he wouldn't give it to me with exactly 30 unique quests completed in san'doria. I did one more, and talked to him again. He finally gave it to me with only 31 quests done, not 35.
ridiculous fame?

I've done 30 unique Sandoria quests and then about 15 repeats, 6 bastok quests and 3 jeuno quests. how close am i? do the out of sandoria quests help? do the repeats help? any other advice on getting fame high enough for teleports?

The easiest way to get your fame up in both Bastok and Sandoria is doing "Only the Best" quest.

Talk to Meylon in Selbina to get it. He wants you to bring back various items for his sheep (5 la theine cabbages, three ears of millicorn, or one clump of boyahda moss). I personally did the cabbages.

You can buy the cabbages from Rosswald (his location varies depending on who controls zalkheim).

At first (depending on your fame with that country), the cabbages only cost 25 each. For every 5 you bring Meylon, he gives you 100 gil. When I started, I had no fame in sandoria or bastok (at all); I did this quest 5 times, filling up my entire inventory with cabbages from Rosswald and running them all to Meylon and easily had the fame for both the teleport-Holla and the teleport-Dem quest. The entire thing ended up costing me roughly 5000 gil.
