Summary

Help nurse the chocobo back to health. It seems to have suffered both mentally and physically. Gausebit wildgrass may do the trick.

Walkthrough

The first time you talk to Brutus, he will give you the quest "Chocobo on the Loose!" After watching the cutscene, talk to him again to get the quest "Chocobo's Wounds."

You absolutely MUST be at least level 20 to do this quest. Anyone who tells you otherwise is mistaken. Brutus will not give you the quest if your current job level is lower than 20.

After talking to Brutus (or before, whatever), you need to get four clumps of Gausebit Wildgrass. You will try and feed the sick chocobo the grass. You can get the grass by killing Wadi Hares in Dangruf Wadi, or Crane Flies in Meriphataud Mountains. You can also buy Gausebit Wildgrass off of the Auction House. It is listed under Weapons -> Ammo & Misc -> Pet Items. (Yes, Chocobo food is listed under the Weapons category. -_-)

Many players often get confused and think that you're supposed to feed the chocobo Gysahl Greens instead of Gausebit Wildgrass. This is wrong. Gysahl Greens will not work. You have to feed the chocobo Gausebit Wildgrass.

The quest can take up to six real world hours to complete. You must feed (or attempt to feed) one clump of Gausebit Wildgrass to the Chocobo every game day (one game day is equal to about one hour in real life). If you feed one clump at the end of a game day, you do not have to wait a full hour to feed the next clump. You only need to wait until the next game day. However, if you feed a clump at the beginning of a game day, then you WILL have to wait a full hour, since you will have to wait for the next game day before you can attempt to feed the Chocobo the next clump of grass.

In total, you must attempt to feed the Chocobo six times. However, you will only need four clumps of grass because the Chocobo will refuse your first two attempts.

Day 1 - The Chocobo rejects the food and refuses to eat.

Day 2 - The Chocobo rejects again (1 real hour later).

Day 3 - The Chocobo will accept this time (1 real hour later).

Day 4 - The Chocobo eats again (1 real hour later).

Day 5 - The Chocobo will eat again (1 real hour later).

Day 6 - The Chocobo will eat for the final time and you will get the license.

You do not have to be logged in every hour to do this quest, and they do not have to be consecutive hours, either. In other words, you can feed the chocobo once, then log off for several hours, then come back and feed the next clump of grass. Also, you cannot go up and continuously try to feed all four clumps of grass to the chocobo at once. You must wait at least one real-life hour (or until the next game day) between each feeding attempt.

You guys know that you can buy the grass from the Auction House right?... I got mine for 1k each but it saved me a bunch of time. The grass is rare I think so its much easier and you can just buy it at Upper Jueno Auction House right next to the chocobo stables.

Im a lvl 18 RDM and just started to lvl a whm as a sub n just needed to know if i can do the chocobo quest yet. If not i guess its bak to leveling :'(. I wudnt mind leveling so much if i got into ptys quicker but u spend like 30-40 mins tryin to find PTY's so it kinda sux in that aspect unless ur solo'ing.

Just a tip, if you start the quest right before a new day, you can eliminate some wait time, because it will be the next day sooner, if that made sense.

# Apr 20 2005 at 10:17 PM Rating: Decent
no you don't!!!!!!!!you can feed it anytime you want, just not twice in a RL hr, ok? don't listen to this other dude who says you need to the first 2 times.
RE: O.o
# Jul 11 2005 at 8:19 AM Rating: Decent
Actually, the very first TWO "trades" to the chocobo need to be done consecutively to count as the first days "attempt". Only after you try to trade to the chocobo twice will it count. All together you will use "trade" on the chocobo 7 times for this quest.

My Trip To Jeuno...
# Oct 16 2004 at 7:38 AM Rating: Decent
Level 20 White Mage + Sneak + Blink = Safe trip to Jeuno from San d'Oria. Had no problems at all, although I was quite nervious when, close to the Jeuno zone, I circle around the final hill to find two Gobs, and Orc, and three Tigers all together in the area ahead...only the tigers stayed, and I sat there waiting for them to be facing the other way and then RAN LIKE THE DEVIL WAS AFTER ME!!!! lol

I wish I would have read this thread before doing the quest, though...I turned down seven pt invites during the Quest because I had thought my presence there for six consecutive days was absolutely necessary.

At least I was able to read some more of War of the Worlds and finally get a little further in my Breath of Fire III save file! ^^

Now to do some serious leveling for the weekend!!!

lvl 1 running

If you have to make the trip to Jeuno for the first time take a lvl 1 job. I went through Konschtat Highlands >> Pashlow Marshlands >> Rolanberry Fields as a lvl 1 WAR and I didn't get aggroed once just by keeping an eye out for gobs and quadavs.

And even if you do die you won't lose any exp. Just keep updating your home point as you go.

I did get a lot of ppl shouting "What's a lvl 1 doing out here???" but I figure it only makes my name more notorious.

Cost of Grass
# Aug 20 2004 at 8:03 AM Rating: Decent
I was a bit unprepeared for this quest when I got to Jeuno.. was only aggro'd once on the way from Bastok (had a white mage escort).. Did well on the way there.
Once there spent all of my money thinking I could use the AH to get more.. didn't realize it was so expensive to sell at the AH there... anyhow.. Gausebit grass sells for a grand a clump at the AH there.. that's 4 grand. In Windy however, (I was forunate one of my linkshell buddies were at the AH there)I was able to get the grass at 700 a pop. My recommendation.. Get the grass before making the trip. I believe you can get the grass at Dangruf Wadi as a drop. (Quetzalcoatl server)

myself (20/7 rdm/whm) and a friend (18 rdm) came from Valkurm Dunes alllllll the way to Upper Jeuno to do the quest! he's obviously gonna level in Qufim until hes 20, but sheesh. what a long hike! let's review:

Valkurm Dunes > Konschtat Highlands > Pashhow Marshlands > Rolanberry Fields > Lower Jeuno

we had a high lvl buddy in my linkshell (hey Tieya!) help us through Rolanberry, which was easily the least treacherous of them all ^^

i just finished the first hour of the quest (watching the Vana'diel timer now!) and I cant wait to ride my Chocobo home!

Try doing it from Windurst ;)
Windurst Woods > West Sarutabaruta > Tahrongi Canyon > pick up the Mea crystal > Bubburimu Peninsula > Mhaura > Ferry to Selbina > run and hide when somebody fishes up a sea monster > Selbina > Valkurm Dunes > Konschtat Highlands > pick up the Dem crystal > Pashow Marshlands > Rolanberry Fields > Lower Jeuno

>.<

Just so other Windurst residents don't do the same:
Windurst->East Sarutabaruta->Meriphataud Mountains->Sauromugue Champaign->Jeuno

Should be much faster
Days
# Jul 04 2004 at 2:44 PM Rating: Excellent
So if I read the posts well, you can feed the choco, go to school for 6 hours, (around 7 gameday's later) come back and feed the choco again?
RE: Days
# Feb 16 2005 at 10:01 PM Rating: Decent
No. you need to do it every hour for six hours. And you can cut it down to a bit more than 5 hours if you think about it enough.

made the journey as a lvl 18 war/thf accompanied by a lvl 19 whm/blm. got aggroed by a weaker goblin and thats it. if youre having problems with the journey and arent already doing this, SPAM THE F8 KEY to make sure you dont miss any mobs and give everything a wide berth. stay in the canyons in jugner and cut across batallia (hills make great cover)
just got quest
# Jun 29 2004 at 10:37 AM Rating: Decent
Just ran to Jeuno from San D as a war 21/mnk 10. Had a whm 21/blm 10 with me and we casted sneak the whole way. The path we took was san d -> la thiene -> jugner -> battalia. We were fine in jugner but when we were in battalia, we got aggroed and killed by a tiger when our sneaks ran out. Be really careful when you're moving across battalia. We finally asked for help and a nice high lvl ninja escorted us!

Also, talked to brutus and he told us we're not ready. Talked to the kid next to the choco and initiated the chocobo's wounds quest thru the kid

That is how I travled but I solo'd as 19thf/9war and made it fine with no aggro... found some mages I PT'd with in the dunes... they found me actually and the helped me get lvl to 20 no problem. Aggro is not a problem unless you run around unaware of your surroundings, my roommate is a 18rdm and just runs... never looks for whats around and since doing sub job I have to voke and zone to save him a lot. Who woulda thought a THF protecting the Mage...
