Poppin' Balloons

I picked up the bomb ash off of a balloon, and I bought the bone chips from the boneworking guild.

I recommend the southern tower in East Sarutabaruta (The one you go to for Mission 2). Bombs spawn frequently behind the three cracked walls, so they're easy enough to find.

I managed to take balloons down on a pretty consistant basis at level 8 Rdm w/ no sj. Note that I had all of my skills near their cap except for parrying.

You can buy Bomb Ash in Bastok Metalworks, actually. Costs around 550 gil.

She casts curse on the guy outside-- which becomes another quest. You need to wait several days to be able to enable the second part of this questline for him to get sick from the curse.
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 26 2003 at 8:50 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The reward isn't the best, but it's an easy quest. All of these items should be able to be purchased cheaply at the AH, including the "reward".

Any body found this "spy" she talks about after finishing the quest?

He is outside to the immediate south of the house. Turns out he is no "spy" at all, mearly a reporter. Remember him, he comes into play in later quests.
Finding the ruins
# Nov 23 2003 at 11:14 AM Rating: Decent
May be too late to help you, as you have already found your way in, but if you look on the maps, there are things that look like tree trunks. Each of these is an entrance to a different part of the ruins.
getting the items

You can just buy the bone chips from the bone craft guild. Then go to the inner ruins and kill ballons till they drop the ash. i recommend you have a lv 10 healer with you to make the ballons easier to kill.
Inner ruin access

How do you access the inner ruins? The entrance is elevated above the floor... is there another way? I have the bomb ash from the outer ruins already.

It sounds like you are trying enter the ruins from the middle tower of West Sarutabaruta (not possible.) There are six Horutoto towers total, 3 in East and 3 in West Sarutabaruta. I recommend going to the south-east tower in East Sarutabaruta, I believe this is where the balloons are (in the side passages.)

If you are going to farm the balloon's I recommend the Northeast tower. Its close to the entrence to the canyon.

I would not recommend that tower for anyone under level 20 or so however, the cardians are weak, but they do link. In addition that tower is NM heaven. 3NM's pop there on a reguler basis. Any can kill a low level player if they are not expecting a big fight.

If your higher level well the NM's are just a bonus if you run into them. A white mage can take them solo at around level 35 without much trouble.
As a level 44white mage I can take them with my staff and not even bother healing myself.

Though I tend to agree with some of the other posters. Just buy the ash. you will be able to afford it no problem at the auction house long before your strong enoght to take on balloons without risk.
