Walkthrough

Switchstix can upgrade degraded weapons if you bring him the things he wants.

The first upgrade will require:

Fee: Montiont Silverpiece x5

The Relic Maul is a drop from Dynamis - Windurst. The Wootz Ingot is either crafted (unknown Smithing skill) or bought with 25 One Hundred Byne Bills from a Goblin NPC in Beadeaux. Trade all four items and payment in Silverpieces to Switchstix and he will upgrade it to a Battering Maul. You will need to wait one game day.

The second upgrade will require:

Fee: One Hundred Byne Bill x16

He will upgrade the Battering Maul to the Dynamis Maul. This will take about 1 week Earth time.

The third upgrade will require:

Fee: Lungo-Nango Jadeshell x62

The Attestation drops from the notorious monster Quiebitiel in Dynamis - Beaucedine. Trade these two items to Switchstix and he will make upgrade it to the Gullitani. The Gullitani will allow you to use the special weapon skill Randgrith, but only in Dynamis areas.

The fourth upgrade will require:

Fee: Ranperre Goldpiece x1

The Heavenly Fragment drops from the notorious monster Animated Hammer in Dynamis - Xarcabard.

Trade the Gullitani, the fragment, the Necropsyche, and the currency to the blank space at (H-8) in Sanctuary of Zi'Tah to receive a cutscene, your Mjollnir and 30 Montiont Silverpieces.

Omg i really want one of these... If anyone on Lakshmi doesn't use O Bronzepieces or Byne Bills and would like to donate i'd be a very happy taru :) Plus since this isn't neccessarily a Priority Weapon, i doubt any WHMs will get it anytime soon, seeing as most dynamis shells would rather have a Melee get a relic weapon first. If anyone wants to donate just /tell Nimrod on Lakshmi :D

XD (Take this how you want to, although i can't pay for currency i doubt i'll get it. So if you're willing to donate, then you're the coolest person i know. if you think of it as just a joke, that's ok too XD)

Hitosi has Mjollnir on Asura server. Intended to take a screenshot but that`s an evasive taru lol.

The weapon itself has Additional Effect: Recover MP. Not sure about what Soarin said, but could be. I haven`t seen the weaponskill as of yet, but maybe i could stalk Hitosi and eventually see it...lol.

So my 2 gil, this is a badass hammer.

Randgrith

What does Randgrith do exactly? I know its a weapon skill, but that's all I know
RE: Randgrith
# Mar 14 2006 at 11:00 AM Rating: Decent
It is a 2-hit weapon skill**, goes through shadows (it doesn't eat them, it just ignores them like they aren't there), it is guaranteed to do at least critical damage on each hit. It contains "Light" skillchain inside the weapon skill, and if it is used following up a "Light" caused by other players, it creates a second "Light" which does damage equal to:

Randgrith DMG x 150%

So, if "Light" did 800 damage, and Randgrith did 1,200 damage, then the result would be another "Light" effect that causes 1,800 damage. (800+1200x1.50)

I have heard rumors that a "Darkness" empowered WS like Catastrophe used with a "Light" empowered WS like Randgrith can cause something similar to an "Ultima" effect, but this is unknown.**

Mjollnir has a random chance to hit for three times the normal damage of an attack, and it can happen during Weapon Skill use, including Randgrith.**

Randgrith also recovers HP to the WHM using it (and maybe to party members in the area) in a ratio to damage done (I don't know how much it heals, or the ratio of damage to healing).

**EDIT** June 14th, 2006

Okay, I finally talked to one of the people on Gilgamesh who has Mjollnir, and confirmed some of what I had seen.

It isn't a 2 hit, but rather 3 hit weapon skill. The weapon itself, has a chance to do 3x the normal damage of a swing as a hidden effect. There isn't an "Ultima" skillchain in the game as of this moment.

The Additional Effect on the weapon activates every 6-8 hits with the weapon, and restores anywhere from 5 to 15 MP. I don't know how it works yet, but it seems to be based on the ammount of damage you do in a swing.

Due to the language barrier, I was unable to confirm that the weapon skill heals any HP. I watched several fights, and I did not see any kind of heal effect when the weapon skill was used, so I am going to say there is probably not any kind of healing effect to the attack. I was also unable to confirm the ratio of damage done with Randgrith to the damage done by Light.

There are three different types of Currency. They are completely unrelated to each other, aside from holding the same values.

1 Bronzepiece, 1 Whiteshell, and 1 Byne Bill are the three different types of currency, in the single-value demoninations.

100 Ordelle Bronzepieces = 1 Montient Silverpiece
100 Tukuku Whiteshells = 1 Lungo-Nago Jadeshell
100 Byne Bills = 1 100 Byne Bill

So.. if it said you need 5 M. Silverpieces, that is 5 Montient Silverpieces.. which is equal to 500 Ordelle Bronzepieces.

You can most likely find someone to trade the shells you have with pieces.

For those interested, I'll log the dialogs I have with switchstix concerning the relic maul. Maybe in a year or two I'll be done. ><

When you talk to him with the Relic Maul (which I got from Dynamis-Windurst as a random drop) in your inventory, he says:
"Hold it right there, pal! Is that a relic maul you're carrying? The power hidden behind that worn appearence is making my old gobbie ears twitch.
Trust me, I'm a blacksmith. I don't kid around when it comes to weapons.
Hrmmm.
It'd take a lotta work, but I could make that power shine through again.
Okay, adventure boy, you got something to write with?
To reforge the relic maul, I'm gonna need a platinum ingot, a square of rainbow cloth, and a wootz ingot. Yep, that's the bare minimum.
Bring along the relic maul with these three items and I'll get to work for you.
I've told you what I need, the rest is up to you."

Then, after buying the rainbow cloth and platinum ingot off the AH, and getting a wootz ingot crafted by a lvl 100 blacksmith (from a wootz ore I won in dynamis-bastok and rosewood lumber and a steel ingot i bought off the AH), I approached him and traded him all 3 items with the relic maul, he says:
"You got what I need? Let's see here, a platinum ingot, a square of rainbow cloth, and a wootz ingot.
Good work. Did I mention that I don't work for free? I'm gonna need a little something up front. - - I don't trust you sneaky adventure-types.
Oh, and I've got no interest in gil. My fee for this job is 5 Montiont silverpieces. You people pay each other for stuff all the time right? Well, this ain't no different. You pay my fee, your weapon gets fixed up."

Now the 3 items and the relic maul are gone from my inventory. This sucks. Sure, the maul was slow and weak (you only swing like once every 10 seconds for 2-3 damage) but it was cool to have and also built like 22tp per hit (hexa-strike and black halo with it did full damage). If I talk to switchstix again he just says
"Reforging the relic maul is gonna cost you 5 Montiont silverpieces. You pay me and I start working. See you when you get back with my fee."
So I guess I'm relic-weapon-less until i can save up another 250 Ordelle bronzepieces. /sigh. This could be really annoying if, say, I get to the third stage, where the weapon is actually useful outside of dynamis, and I get an attestation of sacrifice, trade to the goblin, and the rumored ~60 L. Jadeshell fee is presented. That would mean the gob would take my multimillion gil weapon until I could save up the ridiculous cost to finish the 4th stage ><. Then imagine if the fifth stage costs more money, and you lose your SpecialWS-in-Dynamis weapon for even longer. :-(

*** 2/6/05 UPDATE *** I got my 5 M. Silverpieces finally. I traded them to Switchstix and he said:
"You brought me 5 Montiont silverpieces? Right, time to get to work. My forge is hot and ready to go. The goblin way of smithing is a little different from your fancy schmancy "synthesis". I'm gonna need some time to get this job done. You kept me waiting for the materials I needed, now it's your turn to cool your heels for a while. Fair's fair, right?"

Then when i talk to him again he says:
"You back already? I told you this was gonna take some time. You adventure types have really gotta learn some patience. Let me get back to work, will ya? Sheesh."

So now I have to wait till after midnight Tokyo time to get my Battering Maul. Total cost so far:
(3) sponsored Dynamis runs : 3 million gil
(1) M Silver piece from a bazaar : 500,000 gil
(1) Wootz Ingot (ingredients and commision) : 50,000 gil
Other ingredients and loose change purchase : about 500,000g
Total cost for 1st upgrade : about 4 million. This could have been less, but the 3 runs I've sponsored so far haven't gone really well. With good runs this stage could cost 2 million or less. Oh well, time to start farming/crafting. I'm broke ><.

*** 2/7/05 UPDATE ***. I went back this morning and talked to Switchstix. He said:
"You can stop your bellyachin now-- I'm done with your Battering maul. So what do you think? You ain't gonna see too many weapons of this quality, I can tell you. Be seeing you, adventure-boy."

Then I got the weapon. I went to beat up a demon with it, and I can now tell you to not expect anything special at all. 6-8 damage per hit, no special fast tp building, no special effects. Oh well, on to the next stage. When I went back to talk to the gob again he says:
"Oh yeah, one more thing: the Battering maul I worked on can still be improved. I can make that power shine even brighter than before. Do I have your full attention. now? Naturally it's gonna cost you.
The weapons you people use are really popular among the beastmen these days. I could make myself a small fortune with just a few of them. The top sellers at the moment are brass hammers, warhammers, and holy mauls. There are others I could think of, but these three bring in the most cash.
Don't forget to bring the Battering maul back with you too. These three items cover the cost of materials for reforging the Battering maul, but I'm still gonna ask you for a seperate fee for my sweat and toil. To forge, or not to forge? The answer lies in your hands."
If I talk to him again he repeats all of that.

So now to get another 1570 byne bills. Guess I'll be seeing you in 2-3 months at the earliest. And one other thing, ***** you SquareEnix to hell for your evil game design. Not telling the whole fee up front and then holding the player's trophy piece until they can get it really is a kick in the nuts to someone paying to play your game. This time, I'm gonna hold on to weapon till I have everything I need, with a special thanks to that first poor soul who had to find out the fee the hard way.

I also saw a picture of a japanese player turning in his Dynamis Scythe with an Attestation of Vigor to Switchstix, who then said he needed 62 "100 Byne Bills" (thats 6200 Byne Bills, not 62,100 Byne Bills as some people misread, sorry!), so I guess the 3rd upgrade fee is for real :-(.

*** 2/11/05 UPDATE ***. I got to use the Battering Maul in Dynamis-Beaucidine today. I took some swings, and in Dynamis, it's about equivalent to the AF1 Blessed Hammer in strength and effect, with a +7 to your lightning element stat (i think this is there just so you can verify in the equip menu that the weapon actually does gain stats in dynamis areas).

*** 3/4/05 UPDATE ***. Got another 1st stage Relic Maul today in dynamis, even though I already have the 2nd stage Battering Maul. So you can hold each stage of the relic weapon at the same time :D (they are all ex, and I was wondering if that would count across all stages). That means technically you can dual wield Mjollnir and Gullitani with NIN sub. crazy... anyways right now I'm at 110/1600 byne for stage 3 and 500/6200 shells for stage 4. I got dynamis-xarcabard access now, and also should be trying an attestation run in the next month. I posted a pic of the stats for the Battering Maul in the items section, and did a write up of strategy for dynamis beaucidine (including attestation runs) under the areas section.

*** 5/5/05 UPDATE ***. still at it, still only have the second stage Battering Maul. current status is 800/1600 bills, 1100/6200 shells, and 600/10,000 coins... {Long Time} ;;... I'm working on all 3 final stages at once. A couple people have finished other weapons on other servers, and all the currency costs are known, including the final stage 10k unit cost (you get 3k back for the last upgrade during a cutscene where you meet the previous owner, so if you can borrow 3k it only costs you 7k, and its an instantaneous upgrade).

*** 6/19/05 UPDATE ***. Turned in the 3 weapons he requested and the battering maul, he says:
"Oho, you brought me what I asked for? A brass hammer, a warhammer, and a holy maul. My pockets are gonna be bulging when I unload this stuff, heh heh.
Now about that fee. As a craftsgoblin, it's embarassin' to admit, but I don't think I can reforge the battering maul for you. There's a blacksmith I know that can do the job though. Damn expensive, but the best blacksmith I ever saw.
The fee, including my cut for the referral, comes out to be 16 hundred byne bills. Its gonna be a fun time getting your grubby little adventurer hands on the loot, but the result will be worth it."
He thinks he got me, but i quickly whip out 16 100 byne bills and hand them over. He says:
"It's tough for even us Gobs to collect hundred byne bills, and you've brought me 16 of them. Not bad for a clueless adventurer-type. Leave the battering maul with me and the job will get done."
Then when i talk to him again he says:
"You really are impatient, ain't you! This is gonna take a hell of a lot longer than last time-- that's how amazing the outcome is gonna be. Better find yourself something else to occupy yourself with for a while.
This is gonna take so long, you'll forget you even asked me to do it in the first place. A really, really, really long time. Really long. But don't worry, I'm a true craftsgoblin, I won't go back on a deal. Just don't forget to come back, huh?"
So now i gotta wait a week to get my dynamis maul. Total cost for this stage was about 10 mil. im at 17/62 L Jadeshell for the next stage, and 13/100 M Silverpiece for the last. The Attestation should come soon, we already got one for a monk who just got his Caestus (stg 4 knuckles).

*** 8/1/05 UPDATE *** a month ago actually (been too lazy to post >.> ):
"And here you go, the finished masterpiece. Really, really, really sorry to keep you waiting so long. Really sorry. But take a look. Feel this radiating power. I bet you're glad you didn't forget to come back, huh?
This reforging stuff just warms my old Gobbie heart. You find any more old weapons, be sure to bring them to me. You never know, they might have the same potential for enhancement you see here. See you around, adventure-boy."
Dynamis Maul get....
"Hey, you're the guy with the Dynamis maul, right? I got some good news for you.
Got a letter here from my blacksmith buddy, The guy who forged your Dynamis maul. Wanted me to lay a proposition on you.
For years now, him and his mates have been digging tunnels right under this place we're standin' on. Even among us goblins, they're considered a strange crew.
They're lookin' for a certain object that was burried here thousands of millions of years ago, or something like that. But don't worry your little head over whatever that might be.
Anywho, after poking around deep under the earth for so long, they've come across a few strange weapons used by Gob-knows-who, Gob-knows when.
Now, this is the good part. The weapons those guys found happen to have the same sorta aura as this Dynamis maul you're toting around. Pretty intriguing stuff, wouldn't you say?
My buddy mentioned in his letter that he'd be willing to trade his discovery for your Dynamis maul, as long as you throw an attestation of sacrifice into the bargain.
Wait a sec...attestation of sacrifice?
Can't say I've ever heard of it myself. No description in the letter about it neither.
Hmmm. Guess if you want to swap your Dynamis maul for what they dug up, you better start looking for an attestation of sacrifice.
Okay, I've done my bit and told you what you gotta do. It's adventure-time again."
So that's it, getting closer. nothing special about this stage, its a bit stronger than the af1 hammer, in dynamis its almost as strong as a darksteel maul. still no attestation, Quibitiel only wants to drop the dagger attestation so far :-(. i put currency status in my sig now :D

Which part of this is the hardest? And what do you have to do to the holy/heavenly fragment? I've heard many different things, but they all involve a pond in Dragons' Aery, but I'm clueless...as a 34 White Mage/26 Summoner should be about this kind of thing. But any help would be appreciated.

P.S. How in the world do you prounounce Mjollnir?
J = English Y in some Germanic languages and in IPA ^^b
# Jan 25 2005 at 3:00 AM Rating: Decent
To answer your P.S. (since that is all I can help you with :P), Mjollnir is said "Myol-near." It's basically said how it looks, except the "j" is pronounced like the English "y" sound.
