Well I just got Final fantasy I&II: Dawn of souls for the Gameboy advance, and in there they renamed NUKE to Flare.
I always called the blm in FF1 "NUKE"

lol...i remember that and the little crackly crispy graphics you got when it was cast. nuke was awesome.
one more thing. ultima was defined when it first came out as the ultimate spell, so regardless of what you think, square defined it as the best spell. i'm sure they meant that it had the most damage dealing potential out of all spells.... even though meteo(r) came out first. besides...the graphics for ultima were way cooler. it gave a sense of devestating magic.
(i know its not in this game......yet)
the coolest summon ever was FF3(states) Alexander. where that little red beam went across the ground then like a second later everything was incinerated. ...i guess i may sound old now....

Clasic, meaning the first final fantasy. Flare was the most powerful damage spell.

You guys should just stop arguing... In the olf FF games, Flare(Nuke) hits only one target and ultima hits in an area. They have strengths in different areas. No need to argue, just get both

Ultima was the greatest spell ever, especially in FF8, where i junctioned it to magic defense... those were the days, but here in the present FFXI Flare is GODLY!
