AM is just cool fireworks, lots of fun to do/watch when farming as/with a lv 60+ blm. Also good finishing move. Decent for MBs pre-60 (AM in general). In all, not efficient enough to be used often in exp parties. But... as I said in another post, its always nice to have a complete spellbook. At the very least, it gives you more buttons and flashy lights which is the entire reason why I <3 blm XD

And really... move the ultima discussion to the misc. board where it belongs. Now.... off to level blm some more so i can randomly freeze little rabbits in west ronfaure >:)

this spell can be useful in spellbursts... but people are usually to stuptid to be able to time it right

/ma "Flare" <t>
/p i am cating flare, to a skill chain in 25
/wait 20
/p ready skill chain
/wait 5
/p go!!!

but still... people jump the gun and to it as soon as i start casting... and it does a nice amount of damage when it bursts... but FiragaIII works better.

even SE calls it Magic Burst -.-

Anyway, your macro is fun. . .have u ever gotten any MB with macro before the mob was down at 5% HP ? <.<
Also the Tier IV and -ga III spells do around same (or more) dmg for less MP (tier IV) and alot less cast time. Also AM MB's are not that great to various facts, not only MP cost and cast time, but also the insane amounts of hate that dmg causes (if it does not kill) or the endless waste of MP (if it kills) with the mob way less HP left then the dmg you do. Hard part is not to HIT the goddamn MB but to make sure the MB brings the mob to somewhat 1-3% HP to not mess hate too much nor waste dmg.
We need Ultima-100MP, like Holy

Give me Ultima or give me death.

{Death} {You can have this.}

if blm's had ultima it would be WAYYY to cheap unless it was like our 2hour or something...but anyway if blm's had ultima...well it would be cool....but still cheap!

Actually, I think if they ever do add Ultima, it'll be something like an Avatar's Astral Flow or something. That's the only way it wouldn't be completely ridiculous. I would say Bahamut's, but his will obviously be of the Mega Flare variety. Then again, Mega Flare might just be a normal BP for him, and they'll add something completely insane like Ultima as his Astral Flow. Would be totally sweet, but I doubt it'll happen in any case ._.
Multi Mage spells
# Aug 30 2004 at 1:37 PM Rating: Decent
Hrmmm I would like to see flare and meato be multi mage spells. It would be awsome if the whm and the blm had to cast it togher. Wow awsome blm and whms would be the best patners in the game!

If you like watching people bicker, please read the following posts. Only important information here is flares casting time >18 seconds, mp use 383, damage about the same as fire4, but it looks cooler, and its a rare drop from Dread Demons. happy hunting
good at 60, and only 60

well, this spell is definately the best looking of all the ancients but at a hefty 383 mp cost

now, MB it can do a good 1300ish dmg on IT mob, as compared to fire III's 580-620...just fire III takes less than 1/3 the mp cost. in comparison waterga III can do 1000+ dmg on MB for about 2/3 the mp, and of course blm's final spell, Thunder IV, can MB 1300-1400 depending on, again, conditions, for less than 1/2 the mp cost.

in conclusion its just fireworks :P use it to impress some noobs or kill off an NM.

So, we have determined the history of Flare and Ultima, but can anyone tell me the average damage this spell does?

To answer the question regarding average flare damage:

if it is pretty much unresisted, count on it doing between 1000-1400 dmg. damage will vary accoring to your intelligence, your weapon (club- gives nothing, fire staff- +10% dmg, HQ fire staff- +15% dmg), and your magic attack bonus. MAB will have one of the biggest influences on your unresisted damage later in the game.
Non-Elemental
# Feb 05 2004 at 5:00 AM Rating: Decent
Flare was originally a non-elemental spell...an influx of energy rather than intense fire.
Taliesyn is quite right....ultima was first introduced in FF2 for the Famicom system in Japan. (Japonese Nintendo). Meteor was introduced in FF3 for the Famicom (which by the way is definatly a contender for best FF). Was kinda cheap actually you get 4 sages and chain cast it and not even that last boss survives =D. The game that famialiarized and popularized Ultima was FF6 (FF3 North America/Europe). Originally you could single target or multiply this spell as well as any other spell in FF2 making the argument for multiple targets vs. one redundant....just my long winded 2 cp. Have a good one and enjoy the game =)
dropped by...
# Jan 26 2004 at 4:23 PM Rating: Decent
Drops from Dread Demons. I've seen a few alliances do these for the sole purpose of getting Flare for the BLMs. Of all the ancients (and on Alexander) only Quake (70k) and Flare (200k) cost more than 10k. Evidently it is a rare drop ^^
:(

Who drops it (if any), where to get it, damage? casting time?
Uhh, Info Please?

Not In The Game
# Jan 21 2004 at 7:57 AM Rating: Default
Stop talking about Ultima...it's not even been implemented in this game yet. Know how to check? Target a mob and type "/ma Ultima". it gives you a command error message. Now try typing "/ma Meteor" or "/ma 'Meteor II'" on a mob. It says your character cannot cast Meteor(II), meaning they are in the game, but haven't been made available yet. Same goes for Fenrir(/ma Fenrir <me>).
RE: Not In The Game

you can also do /recast "spell name" for magic not yet implemented...Enjoy!

Ultima vs Flare
# Dec 09 2003 at 10:11 PM Rating: Default
Also the person who said Ultima > Flare didnt actually say that. They said that Ultima was the most powerful CLASSIC spell. Flare, if I am not mistaken, hasnt been around as long.

Just to play the Devil's advocate...in previous games (I havent checked about this one though) is non-elemental giving it a bit more of usability at some points of the game. Obviously when the window of opportunity to use Flare arises, then that would be the choice, but to those enemies who have a resistance to Fire-based damage, then Ultima would be the better choice.

Just wanna defend good ol' Ultima.

Gah, can't... resist... replying...

There wasn't an Ultima spell in Chrono Trigger, you're thinking of Luminaire.
