I was playing around with the two items that affect gilfinder: assassin's culottes (AS) and andvaranauts (AN), killing random orcs and gigas in Miz Coast. I also killed mobs with thf main, war main, and war/thf. Here's the gil numbers I got (just to be sure it didn't affect the numbers, I didn't steal or mob any of these guys. I did have theif's knife on, and the tablet ability "Treasure Hound" was active while I did this, not that I think either affects gil drops).

About all I can conclude from this is that thf and /thf over level 5 clearly give more gil than other jobs, and that the andvaranauts give the equivalent to /thf to a job that's subbed something else. Supposedly the andvaranauts and the cullottes give an extra bonus on top of thf's basic ability, but it's such a small effect that it's really hard to measure, since mobs drop random amounts of gil within a certain range. I'll let you decide whether it's worth the effort to equip them.

**edit** Sorry for the weird formatting, but I couldn't get the table to display any other way

Gilfinder does work for parties

Gilfinder makes a monster you help kill drop more gil. It does work in a party by increasing the total amount of gil a monster drops, which is then split equally amoung the party. Also, it apparently stacks, so multiple THFS killing monsters will get multiple boosts. A friend of mine was in a party with 5 THFs in Quifim (some were sub THF), killing Gigases, and he was reporting drops of over 100 gil per person in his party. This means that the Gigases were occasionally dropping over 600 gil total.

My thief is lvl 10

Gilfinder only doubles the gil you get if you are SOLO. So if your fighting a goblin and he drops 20gil without thf then use thf 5+ it will be 40gil no more no less. If your in a party goblin drops 20gil you get 20gil even with gilfinder.

if I sub thf lvl 5 or higher will gilfinder still work?

No, Gilfinder does in fact work with groups. Good example are the giants in Qufim/Delkfutts. They drop ~60-120 gil without and 100-210 with. Two people get ~60-100 each, so clearly it's 120-200 total.. More then the 60-120 average as you say it should.

I think that gilfinder adds or multiplies your gil drops at a random number. I don't think this will be proved since mobs drop different amounts of gil every time (usually.)
RE: drop

I would have to disagree. The differance in gil dropped isnt as extensive between each drop on same named mobs to warrent a multiplier. Or, if its true, we are talking a multiplier of 1.25X to ~1.45X more gil, which isnt much of a a mulitplier in a normal sense. Its by no means 2X or more of a multiplier. If it were to be calculated I'd figure a percentile system would be a better way to measure it. Then again, its all the same number(s), we just dont know it...yet.

This page was proly written off the japanese version of the game before it was translated. Dunno, but the kana version of Gilfinder proly translates more directly to "gil steal".

Anyone familiar with kana around that can confirm or deny my theory?
some facts
# Apr 16 2004 at 2:30 AM Rating: Decent
as far as i can tell, this increases the amount of gil based on a percent so that if gob was dropping 5 you now get 7 (big deal) but if gob was dropping 20 you now get 35 so it may _SEEM_ like it raises with levels but it doesnt you just notice bigger returns on the bigger gil drops.

No this does not make any monster drop gil only those that did before quad/orc/gob/yag etc.

if there is more then one thf in a group will gil finder or tressure hunter stack giving you more gil or a better chance at a drop?

Gil Finder is self only - so no.
Treasure Hunter affects the party - so yes.

people i've been grouped with as thief said they got the same amount of gil as what i got, i believe it's the amount the monster drops it affects, not the personal gain.
set %
# Jan 28 2004 at 12:03 PM Rating: Decent
i belive it is a set percent. dont think it increase by lvl but at 30sam/15thf gobling muggers/leecher/gamblers drop like 50-60gil rather than the usual 25-40. so its quite an increase.
