In reference to Dia/Bio canceling the other out, yes it is true, somewhat. Casting Dia1 then Bio1 would result in the mob having Bio1 ONLY on it.However, Dia2/Bio1 or Dia1/Bio2 do NOT cancel each other out.I have tried this many times and it DOES indeed stack. If you have filters on it may not be evident, but have one of those evil-azz Goblin Alchemists in Labyrinth of Onzonzo cast Dia2(or is it 3?)and Bio1 on you and see how it stacks. (>.<) Damn gobbies! Hope i didn't stray too far off the topic. (<.<) (>.>) !(^.^)!
Would you people please check on the RDM forum for a change? Just because they stack on a PC doesn't mean they stack on an NPC. Dia > Bio > Dia II > Bio II is read as follows: Dia is canceled by Bio is canceled by Dia II is canceled by Bio II. When put on a PC player by an NPC, the rules are different as they always have been. I mean is this NOT obvious by the fact that an NPC can cast Diaga II and Dia III on you when it's a sub-75 spell (ie, Maat). When used on an NPC, it doesn't stack, it just overrides it without canceling. The two spells in question Dia and Bio cancel each by the level they are learned. Unforunately at this time, Nothing cancels Bio II. Diaga is just Dia 1 in case you wanted to know if Bio cancels Diaga. I've done the research myself. You don't receive a "wears off" message if it's overridden like the Elemental Enfeebles.
I agree with this whole-heartedly- in fact, I wish more people would understand this. While this may be the wrong spot to discuss this, it is very important information. In regards to the original post, I'm pretty sure that Goblin Alchemists are WHMs and therefore only cast Dia-type spells, not Bio.
For testing this theory, I would recommend fighting Weapons- the RDM versions will gladly cast both on you.
Anyhoo, big rate up for the good info.
Edit: For the record, if you are already Bio'd, and you have Dia cast on you, it DOES NOT stick. Unless, of course, it's Dia II. I've seen a few people saying that they cancel each other out, and this is simply not true. Yekyaa has it 100% correct.
According to the Spring 2004 Strategy Guide, the Prime Element table on page 30, shows the "Rock, Paper, Scissors" effect of the elements in Final Fantasy.
I think this chart clears up the whole "Damage Over Time" (DoT) spell controversy. Also my experience in watching the Battle Spam in parties seems to show the same flow of elements.
These Spells are as follows; DIA (DEF down effect) BIO (ATK down effect) BURN (INT down effect) FROST (AGI down effect) CHOKE (VIT down effect) RASP (DEX down effect) SHOCK (MND down effect) DROWN (STR down eefect)
Charts reads as follows;
Light Cancels Dark Dark Cancels Light
Fire Cancels Ice Ice Cancels Wind Wind Cancels Earth Earth Cancels Thunder Thunder Cancels Water Water Cancels Fire
so if we replace the Element in the chart with a DoT spell;
According to the chart the only 2 spells that can cancel each other are DIA (Light) & BIO (Dark) All others follow the "Rock, Paper, Scissors" Rule (Frost Cannot cancel Burn, Choke Cannot cancel Frost, etc.) (although some believe Dia & Bio are based on which ever spell is the higher level stronger one cancels the other & there is validity to that claim)
So I hope this helps clear up some things. Please don't rebutt this post with more hearsay & unconfirmed theories. I got this all out of the game rules, if you think its wrong or not entirely correct, test it for yourself. All I know is that when a fellow BLM casts BURN, my FROST "Has no effect" which according to chart, follows the game's logic.
I've never seen this spell on sale anywhere, but I never use diaga in an exp pt anyway so it doesn't really bother me much, this would probably only come in handy for farming. Also RoboBuu said "Dia II = 59 mp" it's definitely 30 mp, I cast that spell a lot.
I saw it in the Price History in Jueno Auction House on Kujata. I'll edit this post if I'm wrong, but I an 90% sure that i saw this particular spell scroll. Not Dia II or Diaga I or anything. I'll check the price history for date, name, and price. I'm thinking it was someone that put it up and sold it to themselves though. Maybe GMs are having fun with us. ~~~ Edit: Yeah... it's not up there anymore. I know I saw it though because I thought it was weird that only one had ever been sold IN JEUNO. I went to the magic shop next door thinking maybe NO ONE had ever been lazy and everyone picked it up at the shop. No dice. This 'only one ever sold' thing that is stuck in my brain makes me 100% sure that I have seen it have a price history. I'd be placing my bets on that a GM either was given it on purpose to try it out for SE or by accident he put it up there to ding his/her name. Just a thought.
Once something is posted in the AH, whether or not there's any in stock, it stays in the listings, so if someone had put Diaga II in there at the time, the listing would have still been visible.
Ive been looking for this scroll for a while. Its not under AH which means its rare/ex. This could be some ultra rare drop from a NM or questable but as far as im concerned if its not on this site. It dosent exist. I wouldnt waste your time looking for it. If it exists im sure this site would publish it. So give up fgor the mean time. It seems to be in testing hence why some mobs can cast it :)
Red mage should have this spell along side with Dia III taking it out just makes people feel that Red mage has no point in game all right rdm has refresh but so does the smn and theres so much equip that gives refresh that at one point rdm becomes unusefull bards also have refresh and dispel. And rdm should get Staff skill back GRRR
i heard this spell was in the original jp version and when they were going to fix the mp cost they just took out the scroll all together just a thought but if u could find a hi lvl jp rdm that has the spell that would probably confirm what ive said here
Anyone know if the Diaga spells is stronger then it's single target conterparts? kinda like firaga is stronger then fire. So would this spell take away even more defense then Dia II?
this spell is real, i found it in selbina when sandoria was in first place. it was going for around 11k (at my current fame level) from the vendor that sells white mage spells. i think this spell shows up whenever your country is in first or second, but don't quote me on it.
like i said... don't quote me on it. i haven't been back to selbina whenever sandy's first for a while now, so i can't go back there and re-verify it. last time i was there i was just scrolling for new spells to buy for my rdm when i believe i came across the spell.
maybe somebody can check again on their servers when sandy's first.
I don't think this spell is one that you can get. never seen it drop...never seen it used.never seen it sold. I think that the FFXI Players guide put it in there with all of the other Incorrect information I.E. Flash 37RDM. Then it got submitted here. Just a Thought tho.
You won't be able to find this, because it is a nonplayer spell.. only the mobs can cast these spells, but word has it that these spells should be free of use, later on in the game future.
i have been looking into finding this spell because i should've had it a few levels ago according to the info u find in strategy guide (often incorrect info)... and i like to have all my scrolls up-to-date for my party.
but i never find myself using diaga regularly, only maybe while link farming dhamels or crawlers etc, mostly just for my own amusment. in a party diaga only gonna grab aggro from the mob u don't c behind ya or something. and if link happens put one to sleep dont ....ga them with Dia.. :/
anyway tho... i could think of many reasons i dont care if this exists, but i will try to find out for sure (like BANISH-3 rumored to be in existence) what the story is on this. if i ever get information on the topic i'll be sure to post it. (maybe it was durin beta testing or early versions ???)
edit: still no reason to want diaga2.. however i have a use for diaga! removing shadows from any ninja type, npc or players in conflict diaga -> silence is a great thing.
lol just scrolling through the chat and i see this post from long ago banish 3 does exist just can out a couple days ago lol didnt exist during your time maybe i can find diaga 2
I agree, mp cost couldn't be that low, all other info on spell is missing (i.e. how its found or where its sold), an noone ever heard of somebody having this. and yes the Brady Games "Official Strategy Guide" Spring 2004 version has the spell listed, and it also says 60MP cost.. they both are wrong!
its one thing to have a free service like this give us incorrect info.. but wtf is with a guide with Square Enix's name on cover (that we pay 20 dollars for) doin with the same misinformation*.
<i want my money back, lol> <we should all write a guide, seein as we could get 20 dollars per copy and we wouldn't need to validate all of the info in it!*>
*I accnowledge that the game is forever evolving and that items and/or spells may have been added or removed from the world of vana'diel since the time of this (Bradygames) guide's printing.
You might've also noticed that the Spring version of the guide has Dia III.
Also, Sleepga and Sleepga II were listed in the original version, but not spring. (But spring, and not the original, has the quest for Sleepga II in it).
I'm pretty sure this is beast only. There are other spells like this. King Behemoth's Meteo is one of them. No, carby doesn't get Meteo it gets something called like...Small Meteor or something. I don't know where they came up with the levels though. Just made them up?
I have seen this casted by NPC's before but have never seen it available for purchase anywhere, even at the Auction House in Jueno. Some websites list it but some dont as well. Perhaps it was available at one time and was removed? Very mysterious.
So... I looked on every forum that I could find on the internet. Every FFXI website I could find, every linkshell homepage I could find, and talked to every high level RDM in the game that would talk to me. No one has any idea where or how to get this spell.
At first I thought it was a myth. It is listed in the strategy guide but those of you that have it know how wonderfully inaccurate that book can be. Anyway I was in Garlaige Citadel helping some people hunt coffer keys. One of the weapons we were fighting (Over Weapon or Vault Weapon, can't remember which) casted it on us. So it DOES actually exist!!!
Here are a few thoughts.
1- It is a beast-only spell, which would be weird since I haven't seen anything else like that.
2- It is a rare/ex quested scroll that very little is known about.
I don't think it is a normally dropped scroll because I should see a listing for it SOMEWHERE in an AH around the world. But none of the cites show it even listed. ...and we all know that if its dropped, it will be farmed. I sure wish I knew what the deal was with this damned spell =(
