I spent the last 2 days in the mines raising 130k gil to buy the first 2 ninja spells,did it in two days.Now I can use my new skills to help raise Norg fame and level my warior.When I have got enough fame I will do the Scroll quest and then re-sell the scrolls for the same amount I paid for them,money in the bank.Do u think this is a good way of doing it? All input Welcome.
No, its not a good idea. I have tried this with the teleport scrolls, and ended up losing a lot of money. Generally over time everything goes down in price. I bought Teleport-Altep for 65k, then did the quest 2 months later and could only get 35k on the AH for the scroll. Dam people undercutting ><
Anyway, you're best off just doing the quest now -instead of hoping the value doesn't drop by the time you get around to it.

Well then, i dunno when you posted this, but at this time (June 2004) prices seem to be going up and up, due to inflation. Ive seen leaping boots raise over 50k, astrals 30k, and many other things. So as of now, this would be an EXCELLENT idea.

No no no... He means that whatever price the Leaping Boots were going for on his server, they raised by 50K. Let's say they were going for 200K. Now they're going for 250K.

i explain to me exactly how to get this scroll i have the tonko scroll but bought it. im new at being a ninja and dont know much on what to do. All i have been doing is trying to lvl and get some yahudo necklaces so far. Whats with the rice balls. Ive only been to norg once for getting the ninja quest done. I need some advice on being a ninja. Please help!

I hear there is another way to get Utsetsumi besides all the Fame requirements is there an alternate way besides buying it when you get lucky? Let me know please I am still on the hunt.

I started out determined to gain enough norg fame.. I never really kept track though. I traded off between the Yagudo Necklace Quest and the Zinc Ore quest (depending on where I was) and did it whenever I got the chance. When in Jeuno i checked my riceballs and they were at a slammin' 156 Gil.
I thought to myself, "Seems like a well-rounded number lets give it a shot."
So I asked my LS (Imperial Alliance) and they told me I would be good for both Tonko and Utsusemi.
I made it to Norg, recieved the Tonko quest and completed it, but couldnt get Utsusemi.
I was pissed -- this was a long hike. So I went back and did some more Zinc (I would mine for Zinc, and sell the rest) and got my Riceballs down to 153.
Still no go, so determined as I was I went ahead and turned in some more Zinc. When riceballs were at 150 I finally got it done, and that was the scariest quest I have ever done. My brother (36 WHM and I 35 THF) snuck around through the Sea Serpent's Grotto constantly recasting sneak.
And I didn't do the Tenshodo Invite Quest... not enough fame

I don't understand why anyone would sell an item they get from a job related quest. One assumes they are never going to pursue the NIN job if they give away an item they can only get via the quest. This is a personal opinion, but I think there isn't much up in the attic if you become a NIN (or any job, for that matter) without the most basic spell ability for that job.
Now, unless you can repeat this quest over and over or the scroll is reusable, I suggest save your money and do the quest for it. It will make you feel more accomplished and certainly more prepared than the guy who put it up at the AH.

I wondered the same thing myself, but then I realized summoners need Norg fame to get the Leviathon quest, haven't seen many SMN/NIN around.

~140 necklaces, @ 300 a pop is like 42k, but subtract 200x35 = 35k.
Farming 35k worth of stuff with gilfinder thf as a sub, lets say every 4 yag drops, means you killed about 560 yags and the least amount of gil is around 11 earns 6160++gil

Does anyone know the sell rate for the Utsusemi scroll? I was thinking about doing the quest and then selling the scroll, i believe on midgardsormr server the scroll sells for 100k
Utsusemi is about 100k on AH in most towns (if its even there), in Jueno its a bit more (usually there)

Hey im tryin to do the Utsusemi: Ichi quest and the Tonko: Ichi quests. But i hear u need fame in Norg... after looking up the fame quests in Norg... i see only 3. Which 3 do you guys recommend doing? and how many times do i have to do them before i can initiate these ninja scroll quests? any advice would be appreciated =D

IF you all are wondering why the price for Riceballs differ You must take into consideration the Charisma as well because that does affect the price. Also the price of Riceballs for me was 156 and I was able to do both Tonko: Ichi, and Utsusemi: Ichi.

Well I got the quest finally, and i can give you precise fames for these quests. Fame 3 in Norg is NOT enough for afaik any of the ninja scrolls (unsure of rusty ones cuz i didnt know about them at that time). Fame 4 is enough for the Tonko: ichi and the rustys for sure, fame 5 is needed for Utsusemi: ichi and Hojo: ichi.
I am uncertain of riceball prices since i just ghetto warped to norg anytime i wanted to check fame and did the quest on the airship :)
I will post those when i have a chance, if i remember, but here's a quick run of how i got my fame:
At fame 3 I turned in about 8 zinc ores and about 20 yag necks (wasnt counting, and it'll vary depending on where yer at in 3 fame anyways), this was enough to bring me to fame 4. At 4 I did the tonko: ichi quest and had to go turn in 128 yag necks to get to fame 5 (yes, it is slow, but it didnt take too long).
Wish me luck, i still cant find the door :)
Oh and a note on fame, no other fame affects Norg fame BUT doing norg/tenshodo quests.. I have way over 9 fame in windurst, 7 fame in jeuno, and had 0 fame in norg when i got ninja, bastok/sandoria/selbina were all about 3 then too.

i did both with 24 Yagudos and 23 Ores, rice ball price 152 ... and got bod on the same time... the fun part is that i was able to get gobby bag 3 after i did those 2 (i cheked before i went there and after i got the quest) too expensive tho... 62k two of the 4 itesm :S

Heres my experience with this scroll.
First off, i have no idea what you guys are talking about these damn rice balls. Its stated over and over in here that you NEED to have rice balls at a certain price in Jueno to get these scrolls. Well, eff that cause the riceballs to me were 158 and not 154 and i got both Utsusemi: Ichi and Tonko.
Now, the zinc quest in Bastok i can confirm is true. But you dont have to do it 30 times. Maybe 15-20, but i didnt do it 30 times. And again, i did get the quests. Make sure you complete the Jueno quest for the Tenshodo Membership as well as Black Market in Norg. For extra fame. And while your in Norg, might as well finish up your SAM quests cause ive been told that it boosts your fame there as well.
Second thing:
Invis. is not needed in Norg. Only Sneak. Invis obviously isnt going to hurt, but jus' make sure you have Sneak because as it stats everything aggros from sound. I equiped my 21WHM and i walked around with Sneak like i owned Sea Grotto! Jus' dont bump in to anything and youre fine.
THIRD and mostly:
The directions on here are crap. So good luck finding it! ;)

Check again on the rice balls...
As you gain fame in an area, the price of merchandise sold by the NPC in that area decreases sightly. The more fame, the more the prices decrease. So the idea behind the rice balls is that you have a purely Tenshodo NPC vendor (in the Neptune's Spire), thus their prices should decrease accordingly with your Tenshodo fame.
Now, you can always check Tenshodo fame by going to an NPC... in Norg. Soooo the rice ball price is a very convinient alternative to traveling to the middle of nowhere, then back if it's not enough, since it's right in Jeuno. Because the price varies directly with your fame, when the price of the rice balls is within a certain bounds (like, it's not -1 gil per fame, it might be -1 gil per 10 fame or something, so there is some rounding), you can check your fame accordingly.
People have tried this and collected that the rice ball price at 155ish seem to indicate significant fame for Utsusemi quest, and in my own experiences this is true.
As far as walkthroughs go ... I followed their directions to the T and got there with no problems. The first few sets are a little vague, but somewhere down there is a very detailed and accurate description of the path.
As far as Invis goes, don't bother with it at all. Nothing there aggros to Invis, and you're just wasting time / magic, especially if you're going with a friend.
My advice to people who are doing this is to mark in your mind along the way areas where monsters are not in sneak distance. It's a windy tunnel, your Sneak WILL wear a time or three, and I would encourage you to plan ahead for a place to run to when it does so you can recast/apply.

Not tryin to stir anything up, but if you read closely it says:

Then it says:

And as far as the riceballs are, they're still the same price. And they're definatly not 155 or below. Hell! I'll even take a screen shot! LoL.

umm this is BS.... the price of rice balls have to be 155 gil or lower and you must do yagudo necklace quest 30 times or so and zinc ore quest 15 times to get price of rice balls to 152 gil apiece.

o just to clear things up you dont have to it the way I mentioned up there but that is what I did because it was so easy to farm yagudo necklaces in giddeus. ( ** You can do zinc ore quest like 30-40 times or Yagudo necklace 40 times or however you want to or you can mix them up 20 and 20**)
I just did this quest about 8 trips with Yadudo Necklaces (27 at a time) and ended up with roughly 153 Gil rice balls.
Then at Jueno did the tenshodo invite quest and they dropped to 152Gil.

Just as a little trivia/comedy note: Shihei means paper money. Keep that in mind next time you "craft" your shihei... ya forgers ya ;-p

another thing i thought of, could doing rank 5 and that whole thing with Aldo be a factor in Tenshodo fame as well? hmmmm >.> pure speculation of course ^^

Just for my experience, the Nanaa Migho (yagudo bead necklace) quest does work, butcertainly not as fast. I had to do it 53 times (that's 212 yaguda bead necklaces) to drop the price of rice balls to 155g. That was enough to do Tonko, but not Utsesumi. I did Tonko and Kurayami quests, along with the Black Market (general) quest, and that was enough fame for Utsesumi. Good Luck all.

I'm beginning to wonder if the minimum price for the rice balls are random for certain people O.o or possibly if the compilation of Necklaces and Zinc has any bearing on it? I did tons of necklace runs and went to Jeuno. I dropped the rice balls to 156 gil but i had heard rumors it had to be 155. I went to bastok and did the zinc ore quest 3 times, came back and it had dropped to 155. Went to Norg and low and behold I got both the Tonko and Utsusemi quest..Personal experience ^^. Utsusemi rocks!

FYI, Yagudo Necklace quest in Windy DOESN't lower the price of the riceball. I turned in 108 Yagudo Necklace and the price STILL stay at 162 gils.

Does anyone know how much fame you get for doing the Tonko or Hojo scroll quests and how much it lowers the cost of rice balls? Can I do the Tonko and Hojo quest when the cost of riceballs is at 160gil to activate Utsusemi?

I check the price of riceball..it was 153gil! i was so happy then i did tonko quest ...all good.then *dum dum duuuum* damn Laisrean won't give me the quest...crappy ****...now ill need to go back to bastok or whatever to raise my fame...

I posted a thread earlier that stated that 25 times is not enough. Well, I did the "Shady Business" Quest another five times, went back to Jueno to check the price of rice balls (After doing "Shady Business" 25 times my Rice Balls were set at 155) and my rice balls were now set at 152 gil. So I flew out to Kazham.. rode to Norg.. AND THE QUEST STARTED! Also I talked to the person in Jueno who tells you how famous you are, and it turned out that I had now achieved the highest fame in Tenshodo after doing the quest 30 Times.
However, there is one thing I'd like to note: the process of raising Fame for Tenshodo is VERY EXPENSIVE. I am on the Ramuh server and zinc ore sells anywhere from 300-400. So doing the quest 30 times means that you'd have to by 120 Zinc ores.. I spent around 40k alone buying zinc ores and not to mention that I now have to buy the Ninja tools.
Do I think its worth it? Hell yes. Utsesumi is a must have for a ninja (almost impossible to get a PT without it on Ramuh) and prices drop for other Ninja and Samurai items in the Tenshodo buy raising the fame.

Oh. I know the recipe for shihei. I was wondering about the lv and recipe for the bast parchment. im currently 36, and using the recipe stated, it said i did not have enough lv to synth. I was wondering if i have the right recipe and what lv i need to make it. ty
