Emergency! When Rdm/Blm MUST use {Escape}
# Oct 13 2005 at 3:26 PM Rating: Excellent
Not to annoy anyone but, when an emergency comes along and your getting your @ss handed to you and your party, if the blm is using escape, after lv 58 Rdm/Blm can save a party, with Fast Cast you potentianly can cast the spell and save the party while the blm helps heal. A number of times i have had to do so in Kuftal Tunnel and Labyrinth of Onzozo. Life and Death can depend on a wise and fast casting and thinking redmage. ^^ God Bless All of you

RDM does cast Escape fast, but Chainspell escape would be better for RDM/BLM, then the BLM wouldn't have time to heal. Course this is with the entire party in range. Else you abandon someone!
with the pimpo hat

You all forgot the numbeer one rule... that subs are gimped to begin with so of course fast cast will make a negligible difference to other classes as a sub
However being a RDM Main I can tell u that yes it does make a difference and yes if u got the spell timing down u can recast before 100% completion mine for Cure III is about 80 or 85 % completion
as a RDM 38
and to anyone who has ptyed w a good rdm they will know that it does make a difference and that a rdm can outcast a whm or blm though this only makes up for the lesser quality of a rdm's spells

However once a rdm reached Convert and refresh this is null and void since their MP is nearly endless
Beyond that Fast cast is also important in that the sooner a spell is completed, the sooner that weapon timer starts leading to more sword attacks overall in a battle

I know of a fight between a lvl 75 BLM/NIN Elvaan vs a 75 WHM/RDM Taru. The WHM won because he could cast Cures faster the the BLM could cast nukes thanks to fast cast. So, it does make a difference, even it is only in Balista.
Fast cast 3 ??

RDM gets Fast Cast at 15, 35, and 55. As well as an Enhance on the Warlock's Chapeau.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 07 2004 at 12:44 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Your fcuking stupid... Fast cast cuts 25% off of individual spells cast times. It has sh*t to do with total cast time cause even though the spell goes off @ 75% you still gotta wait till 100% to cast a new spell. If I sit here and mash the sh*t out of my macros, sure I can sometimes cast a new spell before the old spell's cast bar has hit 100%, and thats all you've proved here... Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

rather than flaming you could do your own study. only takes a half hour.

first, this study was done for BARDS... bards hardly have the need to recast the same songs as they last for 2 min.

second, despite LAMO's spiteful attitude, he has a good point. Fast cast takes of exactly 1 second off the re-cast time of a spell regardless of it's cast time, so a cure saves 0.2 in the actual casting and 1 second in the re-cast time of 5 for a total saving of 1.2 and a total cast time of 8 (roughly 15%)
Blink also saves 1 second on the recast time of 10 seconds and 0.7 seconds in the cast time of 7 seconds for a total of 1.7 saved on a cast time of 17, roughly 10%

you might save 2 seconds on a longer spell like raise. but how often do you spam that?

This study was done with the BRD's Etude songs. I don't know if Fast Cast is half power when subbed, so RDMs don't use this to judge Fast Cast.

As a lvl 57BRD/27WHM and as a 57BRD/25RDM I cast Etude 50 times. I mesured the cast time from the moment I pressed the button to the moment the black lines appeared.

Cast time as WHM:

9.5 III
9.4 III
9.3 IIIIIIIII
9.2 IIIIIIII
9.1 IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
9.0 IIIIIII
8.9 III
8.8 I

Cast time as RDM:

9.0 IIIIII
8.9 II
8.8 II
8.7 IIIIII
8.6 IIIII
8.5 IIIIIIIIII
8.4 IIIIIIIIIII
8.3 IIIIII
8.2 I
8.1
8.0 I

Conclusions:

Roughly 10% of the time Fast Cast don't work and the average cast time of the spell is used.

Fast Cast I shaves 0.7 seconds off the cast time.

0.7 seconds saved dosn't justify a RDM sub by itself.

Assumptions:

Fast Cast II shaves an additional 0.7 off the time. This is untested, not lvl 70 yet.

Hope for those who love the RDM sub:

In the NA beta test, there was an 85 cap near the end of it. It's my belief that Square / Enix will raise the level cap yet again. likely with the coming expantion.

Once that happens BRD/RDM will get Refresh at lvl 82. The average party will prefer a BRD who can Ballad and Refresh to one who can only Ballad.

All Square / Enix needs to do to keep RDM mains balanced with their Bard counterparts is add a Refresh II spell that replaces Refresh at 6 mp/tic

Why would they raise the cap? most JP players are already 75 and many of the computer NA players are in the 70s. Raising hte cap is one way to maintain intrest in the game and continue getting a monthly fee.

My final answer: for those who enjoy WHM subs, keep at it, the teleports will be nice after the cap raises, but keep RDM up too

for those who enjoy RDM subs: ppl don't mind much now, so stick with it, you will find RDM is the new cookie cutter *if* they raise the cap and *if* WHM dosn't get a refresh type spell when they do raise the cap. very likely IMO.

To be fair, I went ahead and did the same study using 25RDM/12WHM and 27WHM/1BLM and the spells Blink and Cure

WHM main Blink: Average Cast Time: 7.0
RDM main Blink: Average Cast Time: 6.5

WHM main Cure: Average Cast Time: 3.0
RDM main Cure: Average Cast Time: 2.8

Conclusions: Fast Cast 1 for a RDM main reduces cast time by roughly 8% as a RDM sub it reduces cast time by roughly 8%

Edited to add: If you count the 1 second saved in re-cast times (assuming you are spaming one spell) the reduction is about 15% for commonly spammed spells like Cure.

Bard Songs?

Does anyone know if this helps Bards cast their songs faster. I heard it did, but that might be just a rumer.

40BRD/20RDM

Fast Cast speeds up bard songs noticably, easiest to notice if you have the tune memorized (and by lvl 30 you will, like it or not). It shaves about 2 seconds off the cast time, and Foe songs are almost instant.

I look forward to seeing how fast I can cast songs with Fast Cast II and Minstrel's Ring (I'm guessing it'll be half the cast time)

No, it does not. I have a macro that I use for leveling my string instrument, I basically use it repeatedly:

/song "some buff" <me>
/wait 12
/song "some other buff" <me>
/wait 12
/song "another buff" <me>

If I change the 12's to 11's, I will only get 2 of the 3 songs off. Either the 2nd or 3rd won't go, depending on lag time. If I switch to a rdm sub (and yes, high enough main and sub for fast cast) I get the same results.

Fast Cast does not affect songs.

you're basically right. turns out I was mostly imagining the noticable diffrence. 0.5 is hardly noticable.
Fast Cast
# Jan 16 2004 at 9:30 AM Rating: Good
well i check it out and well to cast dia its about 1.4 sec so with fast cast it takes less then 1 sec to cast it does take about 25% off casting time and sometimes thats all u need to win a fight or to save someone's life.. since some spells take soo long to cast..
its like
# Nov 23 2003 at 5:23 PM Rating: Default
almost 1/4 speed of normal casting from my obervations
fast cast
# Nov 21 2003 at 9:18 AM Rating: Default
well it takes about 5-10 sec to cast aquavail..... so with fast cast is it like half the time?
Numbers
# Nov 21 2003 at 7:48 AM Rating: Decent
