Ok.. I'm a tarutaru thief @ 59 and my SATA + Viper Bite hits for an average of 700 and sometimes 800+. When I hit 60 would it be better to SATA + Dancing Edge, SA + Dancing Edge then TA Tank, or TA + Dancing Edge then SA? XD

Weaponskill with TA or SA?
# Jul 25 2009 at 8:25 PM Rating: Decent
I do understand from this thread that SA and TA should be separated after 60. That makes sense to me because if you pair them then you are wasting the Assassin ability. My question is: Which ability to you devote your weaponskill to? I would imagine it would make sense to pair Dancing Edge with TA from behind to start off every fight and seal hate, then run around behind the mob and SA from behind. From then on should you continue pairing Dancing Edge with TA or should you throw in a Viper Bite with SA? Or throw in Dancing Edge with SA and +AGI gear on? I don't know. Anyone?
hail to the all mighty Agi.

TA & SA pre 60

Pre 60, yes, you can separate TA and SA, but since TA is not guaranteed to hit until 60 with Assassin, just add some accuracy gear/food and you will do OK. (Once you get to 60, and have Assassin and Dancing Edge, what a difference!) Still, pre-60, you should try to use SATA and SATAWS as much as possible to max out damage.

Re thf/sam: Not a viable combo in exp pt, but it is used for god parties, where thf typically is called in for 2 purposes only: (i) after building up TP on adds, a TA WS or SATAWS (which is helped by /sam, obviously), and (ii) the TH drop ***** at the end of the fight...

So far I have proven people wrong on my server about thief's but I still do not have assassin. So from what I have read up above it is better to use sneak attack and trick attack seperate after 60 because a thief will do more damage that way? Thank you everyone for the information up above it has helped me level thief faster than anyone I have heard on my server! From 22thf to 46thf in 2 days.

i have a question,
is assassin purely based on AGI since sneak attack isnt used at all.
i want to know whether to max out my AGI, or keep it even, thanks for your help

Assassin is not a skill, its a trait which enhances TA to do more damage by itself so i guess the follow up on what you want to know, Sneak Attack is Based on DEX and Trick Attack is based on AGI if im correct....pretty sure anyways so anyways,

So, if u are going to use this trait to its fullest .... max agi for more TA damage then this trait will also add onto that

THF/SAM?

would thf/sam be at all plausible 60+? i mean, SA + WS, Meditate, TA + WS to shift hate to tank. just a thought...

It's an idea, but to my knowledge meditate is gimped if subbed. So instaed of getting 100 tp from it, you'll get 50 tp. So, you would be holding hate as you make up the rest of the TP, unless your tank is really good and can keep it from the SA + WS.

I'm pretty sure you get 60 TP when you sub SAM. At least thats what I get when I use with my DRG main

I don't have THF leveled to 60 but I think this might work (I've got SAM leveled a bit).

Save TP so you have a fair amount to start the next fight. TA+WS onto tank first, then Meditate. At the same time Meditate is building 60TP you are doing melee hits/bolts to build more TP, which happens to be enhanced slightly from Store TP I and II. By the time Meditate wears off you should be at 80-100+. Now do SA+WS.

If your tank is any good (which, I'd hope by level 60...), with the TA+WS in addition to provoke and other hate generation, the SA+WS should not pull hate.

Granted you might only be able to do this once every 2 or 3 fights, but it should still be very effective to help bring down a mob fast when Meditate is up.

Just a theory, one of you guys might have to try it out >.>

I have +15 AGI and +17 DEX right now on my THF, for the most part, with AFs and Drone Earrings, THFs can balance out DEX and AGI.
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 20 2005 at 12:57 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT ASSASSIN AS A THIEF ON MY WAY TO 60. AS OF NOW WHEN IN A PARTY THE OTHER DD VOKES, AND I SATA, OR SATA+WS, ONTO THE MAIN TANK TO GAIN HATE. WHEN I GET ASSASSIN WHAT IS THE TYPICAL PARTY SET UP AS ORDER OF OPERATIONS? ALSO, HOW DOES THE SNEAK ATTACK OR TRICK ATTACK PLUS WS WORK?

When you get the Trick Attack Ability @ Lv30, it can be used on its own. It will not hit everytime (its accuracy depends on your accuracy) if it does it, it will add a signigicant amount of damage to your attack. For me if my normal swings were about 20, Trick attack alone would do about 80-100 damage. The reason why it is stacked with Sneak attack and deamed "SATA" is for the damage modifiers from both abilities to stack, and because Sneak Attack is a guaranteed hit, so you don't have to worry about missing with Trick attack and you get the best of both.

What Assassin does is make Trick Attack a guaranteed hit and critical like Sneak attack while you are behind another person. The damage modifier on Trick Attack is based on Agility, while the modifier on Sneak Attack is Dexterity as most of you probably know. It does not make it so you can Trick Attack while the mob is still facing your Trick Partner because Trick attack @ 30 Without Assassin can do that, except there is no 100% chance to hit and the damage modifier is not nearly as high as Sneak Attack.

Assassin will not increase SATA damage past 60 when you get the trait, much to the chagrin of us thieves. A lot of us were hoping that it would increase our damage to put us on par with the DDs that sub thief at 65+. However Assassin does lock Thief into the best hate control in the game, and it is still a very good addition to our ********

EDIT - Made more reader friendly.

It seems like I've been in a lot of parties where there is not a viable 1st voke (those trixy drk/thf and sam/thf ><) and thus I've had to feel gimpy not being able to SATA. My question is actually about thf pre-60... I know that my chance of TA being a crit hit is more or less the same as my chance of normal atk being crit, but it seems like the more important element is that there is also the possibility that it will miss entierly, but TAWS would resolve this problem wouldnt it? So I guess my question is, when there is no way to SATA is it viable to TAWS then SA separately at 40-60? or maybe just until 45 since <hide> may make it possible to SATA the tank w/o a partner... on sight mobs >.>. Input?

first off, great post. informative, simple, precise and to the point. i love it. second off, a word of advice to all 60+ thfs, asfter u attain Assassin, SA and TA separately achieves more damage than SATA. so, if u are in a party and after your initial SATA, u require a larger damage output, equip DEX ring, activate sneak attack, run around behind your main tank, equip AGI rings and use Trick Attack. my mithra thief does about 250-350 with each. which is more than a 500-500 SATA

Forgot to also mention that Trick Attack alone pre-60 can have drastic damage output depending if the successful connecting hit is a critical or regular. When Crit (occurs at same frequency normal attacks would), it will do the higher damage that people usually refer to about it with Assassin (in ratio of levels). But when it connects without a critical, which is more often than not pre-assassin, it simply does an amplified standard hit. Basically 3x dmg in general.

Great post Rate up. But i think your not giving Trick attack enough Credit. Trick attack DMG depends on current AGI most people focus on DEX which is why Trick attack seems to be weaker and Sneak attack stronger. After lvl 60 and Assasin the better DMG all depends on the gear.
