# Mar 02 2007 at 3:39 PM Rating: Decent
hmm, confused. the spring 2004 strategy guide says that red mage get cure V at lvl 73 but i'm noticing this site doesn't mention a level for red mage getting cure V....is this one of the many changes made to the game after i quit playing back around early 2005?

RDM hasn't had this spell ever since they changed the job back in.. 2003?

Brady guide is hopelessly outdated, but had false information even when it wasn't.

Simply put: keep the guide for the nice pictures, and forget everything else.

as of the recent update to puppetmaster, puppetmaster now has access to this spell, as well as regen III, while using the stormwaker body + soulsoother head combination. they get it at the same level as white mage, 61, 207 automaton magic skill. my oniwaka cured me for 628 hp when i used it on earthsday. puppetmasters are highly efficient main healers in a party while subbing white mage and using this frame, which they get access to at 40 or 50 depending on which head they choose. ive main healed several times as pup/whm and even without refresh i could keep blood tanks like pld, even a war/mnk tank, and even more surprising a drg/sam tank alive rather easily. (its rather boring, i almost never have to use my own mp pool, oni takes care of things.) so if theres no healers seeking, ask any pups lfg if they have whm sub and head! if they possess any decent skills at all you might find them to be one of the best healers youve had!

Lvl 40? Are you kidding?

DS + Cure V could fully heal a lvl 40's hp twice over.

Tank gets hit by a special move and loses 750 HP.

Scenario 1:

Cure V heals for 707 HP. (MP cost 127)
Cure heals for 34 HP. (MP cost 8)

Total HP healed: 741
Total MP used: 135

Scenario 2:

Cure III heals for 214 HP. (MP cost 46)
Cure III heals for 214 HP. (MP cost 46)
Cure III heals for 214 HP. (MP cost 46)
Cure II heals for 103 HP. (MP cost 24)

Total HP healed: 745
Total MP used: 162

Scenario 3:

Cure IV heals for 388 HP. (MP cost 96)
Cure III heals for 214 HP. (MP cost 46)
Cure II heals for 103 HP. (MP cost 24)
Cure heals for 34 HP. (MP cost 8)

Total HP healed: 739
Total MP used: 174

(Totals used were from my own Hume WHM72, Healing Skill about 5 below cap, Healing skill +15 from AF, Light Staff, and MND+12 or MND+25 does the same. The only number that isn't mine is Cure IV. I don't use it enough to know what I Cure for. That number was taken from other posts.)

Regarding the above scenarios, there are a few corrections. First off, the MP for Cure V is wrong. Cure V costs 135 MP. Cure IV is also wrong, it costs 88 MP.

Other than that, I'm guessing by the numbers you've provided that your Cure IV would do a LOT more than 388 so the numbers there might be a bit skewed. I'm guessing you'd be closer to 427 HP judging by the other numbers you've given. Here are my raw numbers as WHM62/SMN30:

Cure = 35hp
Cure II = 101hp
Cure III = 213hp
Cure IV = 425hp
Cure V = 697hp

So in order to Cure nearly 750hp:
1) Cure II x7 + Cure (742hp, 176mp)
2) Cure III x3 + Cure II (740hp, 162mp)
3) Cure IV + Cure III + Cure II (739hp, 158mp)
4) Cure V + Cure (732hp, 143mp)

how come not a single person acknowledges the whole fact of hate properly. If someone does say 600+ dmg with a weapon skill, the healer can drop a Cure V without pulling *ANY* hate. I noticed people don't mention the MND attribute or the Light staff. at Lv52 and 81MND, my taru WHM can Cure IV for 404HP + Light staff.

don't forget the details, at Lv60 a WHM gets +15 healing magic mittens too :)
Cure IV

127 MP? Gosh thats alot of MP for 1 cure, i only have 733mp at lvl 58 as a WHM taru. That would mean i can only use this spell about 5 times before i run outa MP.

Sadly, it's even more, it's 135MP. However, you have to look at it from an efficiency standpoint. Sure, 135MP is a scary chunk of MP, enough to make you want to avoid casting it if possible. However, if you look at how much HP you get for the MP you spend, Cure V is by far the most effective and efficienct Cure in the game. (As a side note, Cure II is the least efficient, don't use this spell ever unless you must.) That's above and beyond the low hate properties which are just icing on the cake. The wise WHM loves Cure V for its efficiency, not for its low-hate properties. I use Cure V whenever possible, sometimes if the tank is getting low I will actually wait for them to take some more damage so I can drop a Cure V. This spell rocks!

RDM and this spell
# Jun 04 2004 at 10:39 PM Rating: Excellent
RDM *used* to get this spell. The info is obviously older on this site, because as of June 2004, it's been about 2-3 patches since the change.

I'm a RDM53 now on Ragnarok (Daejan) who started in October 2003, i remember clearly SE changing it so that Cure V became only for WHM in one of the patches.

There's my 2 gil.

RDM doesn't get this, even in the game if you look at the scroll, it's WHM-only. Unless of course SE plans on altering this sometime soon, otherwise, don't plan on getting this one.
My 2 cents

My cure 5 at lvl 65 can do 690 and cure 4 does 388. It is much less efficient that cure 4. I think that at around 70-75 it should cure for 760-770. I'm not sure tho. As for aggro, it seems to be less than DS Cure 4 but I'm not sure. I prefer DS Cure 4 cuz I never really use cure 5 unless after a raise.

Just curious as to how you define less efficient. Using your numbers here.
388hp/88mp  = 4.4091 hp healed per 1mp used.
690hp/127mp = 5.4331 hp healed per 1mp used.
5.4331 - 4.4091 = 1.024 hp more healed per 1 mp used by using Cure 5.

So you are healing more for less MP expenditure and that is less efficient?

He probably means he's farther from the cap than with cure IV, but you're right, cure V is much better than cure IV, having static hate, and insane MP efficiency.

Remember this WHMs, Cure V is an awesome spell. Use it well.

I'm not sure this is true at all.

I'm on Fairy Server and when I saw this on the website I got excited, but when I logged in later that night I checked Cure V on the AH, and according to the scroll description only a WHM can learn it still. RDM was not part of the jobs available to learn it.
RDM has it?

I don't think RDM gets Cure V. I think when I saw it in AH it was a Rare and only for WHM.

Stick to Cure IV unless really in a TIGHT fix. JPN players flip out if you use this spell, citing MP waste...and generally they're right. Again, only for very troubled times!
RE: Not so good.

Cure4 = ~360 HP / 88 MP = 4.09 HP / 1 MP
Cure5 = ~600 HP / 135 MP = 4.44 HP / 1 MP

That means Cure4 is 92.9% as effective as Cure5 based on how much it cures alone. I'm not saying your wrong for using Cure4 over Cure5 but how is it due to "MP waste", as you were cited.

I personally subscribe to the idea cure5 is better than cure4 in the following situations;
- Tank keeps aggro.
- Tank/back-up healers understand when you will cast cure5 and when they should throw on extra heals.

The reason most WHM dont like Cure4 pre lvl 61 and cure5 post lvl 61 is because they over cast them and get aggro. Each heal does "about" twice as much HP, but also does twice as much aggro. If you dont get aggro casting 2 cure4 in a row, you wont get aggro casting 1 cure5 in the same amount of time (with cure5 landing same time as 2nd cure4). Same thing applies to cure3/cure4.

I only use Cure4 at lvl 50+ and the only times I get aggro is when others are getting hit. Which means I have to heal more HP in less time.

A thing to consider, its an MP waste, IF your cure spell cures them all the way back to full health. Say the player is down 500 hp and you use Cure V over Cure IV xD

That mighta been what the JPN players were getting at :\ Maybe?

Well one way is that not everyone has super high mind. I know I don't, all my stuff is geared towards MP boosting (+136 at L46, Hume) which really helps keep groups going, but doesn't always heal the maximum. Another thing is, it does generate a lot more hate then Cure IV. It's all up to the situation though.
