I think it's a fun idea. I don't feel like driving to Cali to go to it, but it's response (or lack thereof) might teach us something about the demographics of the player base.

Or, to phrase this differently, things like fanfests, et. al. work much better on games like EQ because, if I am not mistaken, a larger portion of their player base is older (30+ish?) whereas I want to say that FFXI is trending towards a younger crowd. I could be wrong, but still. I know a good portion of people that are 21+, but it still feels like there's a lot more of the 13-18 demo playing...

I think it's a spiffy idea having an event and such like that, but unforutnately I live too far to attend. =/ If they'd have multiple ones around, atleast one in each time-zone. it'd be nice.

I'd go excpet for oen thing, Distance. Give us something on the east cost. I'd be willign to travle to NY from ATL for something like this.

(Yes I know if it was on the east cost, all the west cost people would complain, and it still leaves the canadians and overseas people out.)

When I read about the party I thought it was an excellent idea. It is an opportunity for all of us crazy FFXI fans to get together, share stories, win prizes and have an evening of fun. Then I got to the line about it being in CA. I live in Connecticut and that is one long haul to CA. I already pay a monthly fee to play the game, and I'm not about to pay a few hundred dollars to go to a party about it because I live in Connecticut. Please please please please give the East Coast something to celebrate by holding an event in the New England Area.

It's an excellent idea, since many of us feel a close sense of friendship as a result of the game, and want to meet in real life. This event, since it's a controlled environment makes that a safer, fun way to do it. The only thing is that not all of us are from San Fransico, etc. -- perhaps a "tour" type deal. One in each major area?

I live in Singapore. A similar party in Japan would be infinitely nearer, and just as inaccessible.

The Masqurade party is a great idea that SE thought up. I mean come, what FFXI player doesn't want to get together with a bunch of other FFXI players, same server or not, and hang out, converse about the game, where they are from, everything in general. It's a great idea!!

The obvious downside to this even is it's waaaaaay over on the west coast:( bummer for everyone on east coast and most people even just a few states away. Someone already said that multiple parties should be held. Ok maybe not all at once but over the course of a few months, it would be a kick butt even everywhere!!! Masqurades should be help in another 2 or 3 MAJOR cities across the US, I.E NYC and others.Yes I'm from NY, and I don't list NY just because I am from their but because it is widely known. More or less easy to get around, subway, bus, train.

Some of you maybe say that SE would have to spend BIG bucks to pull this off, but ya know what? So what, they will make it back soon enough from everyone paying monthly. I mean come on.... $13 a pop for everyone who plays (at least ($13). Anway this is just my opinion. I truly hope they think about bringing this party to the rest of the US it's only fair.

I have but one last thing to say to SE:

Everyone who plays makes up Final Fantasy XI. We are all addicted big time to your game and pay your fee's because you have made such a great game. All we ask in return in a little fairness in the love (or partying) from you guys and gals. So please, consider spreading thefun and love across the US.

P.S- And for all the Canadians that play, make a party for them too, doesn't have to be in Canada, could be in a very northern state in the US.

Thank you,
Devlin of Valefor

I live in Maryland, and though I love SE, I don't love SE enough to cut out of college to fly across the country to cosplay as my Dragoon!

If there was a Baltimore, New Jersey, D.C., or even a New York event, I'd be there in a heartbeat!!!

I'd love to go... but the distance.

STL, MO would be a much better location. Smack dab in the center of the USA. (I don't really know how to count the Canadian area since not many players live in the far north)

I like the traveling idea, but add STL, too.

The masquerade party is a good idea, it just isn't applied right. If they wanted to have something like that, there should have been calls for venues at major population centers across Japan, the US, Canada, Britain etc and some sort of prize support, memoribilia from the company sent out. Even company staff at some locations would have been great. Unfourtunately by focusing in on one LARGE venue instead of allowing a predetermined format, with support from the company, to occur at many locations within a 3-7day period, it's that many fewer people who will be there.

I'd love to go, but I'm in Canada -AND- I'm a student, so I don't have time to hoof it down to Sandiego or whereever it was they were hosting it. That much less revenue, player support etc for them. I would recommend in the future they make some sort of prepared format and either A) Travel to various cities across Canada and the US or B) Allow various venues, like the local anime club here (which has a huge building) to hold a preformatted event with official support from the company.

Also, one more thing SE needs to do: They need to add to the shop on their site costumes of every job's AF and AF2 armor sets. I dont mean no crappy wal-mart costumes either, I mean professionally made with strong, lasting materials. I'd be more than willing to fork over 200$ US to them for a decent, durable, well made costume of the Paladin, Ninja, or Dragoon AF / AF2, would probably eventually purchase a whole set.

Seconding the calls for an East Coast gathering - seems like SE only holds events on the West Coast.

Thanks for the chance to give feedback. It's great to know for sure SE will hear- more more more chances like this! I would love to go- but I'm not going to attend. :(

I'm the same as everyone else with the location. If the playerbase and popularity of the party warranted it, it would be awesome to have them in "zones"- SE US (Florida! Yeah!), NE US, Midwest, CA. It sounds like a blast, but there's no way I'll fly out just for that... I'd bet a few people who could afford it would tour and go to each one, too.

Alternatively you could wrap it into a larger convention, like WorldCon, to give people more incentive to make a long trip. I still probably wouldn't do it, but I bet a lot more would.

I'm also mildy disturbed by the age difference. SciFi/Fantasy events can get a bit... Well, you know. It's awesome that FF lets you totally break age (not to mention race and nationality) boundaries for teams and friendships! But, unfortunately, in the real world that doesn't work quite as well. What are the 15-year-olds going to do? They _will_ be there- are they going to be escorted by the parents who don't play? (Oh yeah, THAT'LL be fun, poor kids ^^) Or are they going to get dropped off and run around on their own? :::shudder::: That seems like a disaster waiting to happen, I'm afraid. It only takes one predator, and you know there's got to be at least one...

Sorry I guess I'm a glass-half-empty kinda guy. But I think that is a valid fear.

SE should DEFINITELY put on a huge in-game celebration as well. Let's have GM's, especially some of the high-ranked ones, running around partying in the streets! I want to see them introducing themselves, handing out unique items, and shaking some hands. (Well, bowing anyway. ^^) Best of all, how about getting the Devs themselves online, to give panel Q&A sessions on each server? That would be great!

Overall it's an awesome idea even though I won't be there. I hope there will be many more celebrations for we citizens of Vana'diel for years to come!

I'd love to go! Smiley: clap But I'm not driving 8hrs north to go to it. Smiley: disappointed They need to hold more parties in different cities. If it was in Los Angles or San Diego I could go. Smiley: banghead

Okay. Very simply put.

1. Multiple locations (across the world) - CA, TX, NY, BC, ON, England, France, Italy, Japan, Australia, (sorry to all these countries for not giving more specific areas, but I'm not accustomed to the sections of the country and how they are divided) and wherever there is a LARGE group of people that play FFXI.

2. To subsidize the cost of having it multiple locations, I'm sure people would be willing to pay an extra $10-20 to go rather than the $400 for a plane ticket.

-----------------

Saying this, I must add that no matter where it was I wouldn't be able to go. I'm pregnant. I have a 6 month old son. My husband (who also plays) has work the day before and on the Monday following. It would just not be feasible for me to go this year. I think if you try a bit more to accomedate people in the next few years, then it would be really worth it to go.
