Is there a way to disable the <call> function in FFXI so I can't hear them? They are unbelievable loud and annoy the cr*p out of me. Is there a file for them in my FFXI directory I could delete so I can't hear them? Anyone know? Thanks in advance.

I'd like to know too, nothing worse then listening to some music in the background only to have some ****** with <call1> for his tp macro.

The closest thing I know is to turn down the sound effects in game, but keep the music volume up. In Config >> gameplay I think, there are two sliders, one for music volume, one for sound effect volume.

I hope this helps ^^;;

Only two ways to never hear call sounds:

1. turn your sound off.
2. don't party with people who use calls.

Sorry, but that's it, no special option to disable them.

I don't know why people have to use the annoying calls. There are many calls that are fine, but people always want to use the annoying ones.

POWERING UP {Boost} <call1>
{Boost} Ready in 5 secs!!! <call2>
{Boost} READY!! <call3>
USING BOOST! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTT

I love ones like that ><

I wish. I hate it when newbies discover how to use <calls>. I just learn to ignore them, though.

You could always explain to them in a kind fasion that you do not like them. Then you could kindly ask them to please edit them out for you. Then say thank you.

If they freak out and go ballistic on you or refuse. Tell them you have to leave soon, but don't just drop from team and run off that makes both of you look bad.

Some people enjoy the <call> in macros. As a support character, it lets me do my job more effienctly. After 3+ hours of party those damned annoying calls keep you sharp and awake.

There is no option that I know of to turn them off. Reducing SFX volume will remove other sounds (like gobbie bombs, crafting sounds) when playing.

I know you can use a program to modify the background music, maybe the same thing can be done with the SFX.

The only time they really get me is when I'm on the PC and using headphones. My god the first three calls are just so shrill they hurt. The others I don't much mind.

I think they count under sound effects... you can turn those down and only keep the music, but then you can't hear most of the action....

Just ask that people control their <call>ing.

if they refuse or are not willing to edit out the calls just tell the party leader you are blisting them for the remainder of the xp party cause of the annoying calls

...problem solved....

If you turn the sound of in FFXi Config, you'll still hear the <call>, but if you tell them to use <scall> you wont.
#15 Jan 17 2005 at 10:36 AM Rating: Good
<scall> as far as i know only stops the rumbling that happens when people use call. yes you heard me, if you think those loud calls are annoying, try playing with rumble activated, you will really get pissed.

also, when listening to mp3s while playing ( sfx + bgm levels both all the way down ) the call whistles etc. still go through at FULL volume, beleive me i learned my lesson on that one, after nearly going deaf while having my stereo at nearly full volume for music.

LOL

Unfortunatly i am forced to use some annoying calls from lvl 10-30 or so due to noobs not being able to see or read the text. Not everyone, but there are a bunch of them :(

When the SAM missses 6 skill chains in a row, a <call3> usually wakes em up!!!

I start out without calls, and when people ***** up i add them in. I start with something subtle like <call10> (i think thats the drum one??), and end with the ever annoying <call3> (this is the worst IMO).

I dont know of any way to disable them :(

Sorry.

This usually isnt' a problem as I play with the sounds and sfx volumes off and listen to mp3's on my computer. This is the only way I know to disable the <call>s.

If you want to change or completely remove <call>s from FFXI you can take the following steps.

1.) Open your "Program Files" folder for your system.
2.) Find the "PlayOnline" folder and go into that and then go into "SquareEnix".
3.) Open the "FINAL FANTASY XI" directory.
4.) Open the "sounds" directory.
5.) Go into the "win" directory then go into "se" (sound effects) directory.
6.) Go into the "se000" directory.

The following are the filenames of the various <call>s:

se000017.spw <call>
se000018.spw <call1>
se000019.spw <call2>
se000020.spw <call3>
se000021.spw <call4>
se000022.spw <call5>
se000023.spw <call6>
se000024.spw <call7>
se000025.spw <call8>
se000026.spw <call9>
se000027.spw <call10>
se000028.spw <call11>
se000029.spw <call12>
se000030.spw <call13>
se000031.spw <call14>
se000032.spw <call15>
se000033.spw <call16>
se000034.spw <call17>
se000035.spw <call18>
se000036.spw <call19>
se000037.spw <call20>
se000038.spw <call21>

I don't recommend you delete them completely in case you want to save them, so you can either move them to a new folder that you create named "backup", or you can rename their file extention. For instance, to make <call16> inaudible you would rename se000033.spw to se000033.bak. When you want to make it audible again you would rename it back to se000033.spw.

Alternatively, if you have one specific call that you enjoy the most you can make every single call sound exactly alike, but keep in mind that it will only effect you. So if you want others to hear that call you have to use its actual sound effect. To make them all sound like <call10>, for example, you would move everything except se000027.spw to a new directory called "backup" that you create. Then you would copy the file se000027.spw as se000017.spw through se000038.spw. Now all your calls sound like <call10>.

-------------

If you want to completely remove the <call> effects you can just delete these files, but beware, you will not have any calls from this point forward with no way to recover them if you did not create a backup.

Best Regards,
Irrum

NOTE: FFXI will not be affected negatively by deleting or renaming these sound effects, and FFXI will not give "missing files" errors when doing so. It just simply ignores the files being missing as they are not critical to gameplay.

Thank you so much illuminarok. You don't know it, but you are personally a SAVIOR to me! You have no clue how annoying the <call> function truly is to me. It's SE idea of a sick joke IMO. Rate up for you.

Would it be possible to convert soundclips that we enjoy to .spw's, and replace the annoying calls with small soundclips of our own?

I'm sure there's a way, if the background music can be replaced, surely the sound effects can as well.

Sorry to be a jerk, but I honestly almost rated you down because of your avatar.

I hate looking at it, and try to scroll past your posts as fast as possible.

I don't use the rate button that often, and it's not fair to rate you down for that. But I wonder if there are other females on this board who have done so.

I'm sure I'LL get rated down for that, but oh well.

You can make the quieter and still hear them, or turn them off with this : http://ffxi.archbell.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3626
It works good for me. Take a look!
